The best I can remember it was long and pointed on the end and [as a clear royal blueish crystal look] with a royal blue tassel hanging from the lid...about the length of your finger....It seems as if there was a couple size bottles.......sometimes as a two or three piece set in a velvety blue box........I can almost smell it now. lol

Midway, WV

Oops ! I have been mixed up, I Googled it and it is Evening in Paris. I went over a few pages and found the one I was thinking about, cobalt blue with the tassel.I did see quite a few sets as I remembered. Ya'll are sure making me feel old.. lol.. way back in the thirties.....mary

Naturally I was speaking of Blue Waltz, in my last post. I was given the entire set when I was a child.... in the early 40s. :-)

I have ordered from Verm ont Country STore. I got a Prince Matchibelli perfume that my mother used to wear. I also plan to order Evening in Paris but most especially, Tweed perfume.
I ordered Lifebuoy soap but it was n't the one I remember. It was an even earlier version with carbolic acid which was banned from common use years ago. The red liquid Lysol concentrate also had carbolic acid and a few years ago a friend of mine b ought some to disinfect a trailer she was going to live in. It's rather sever e smell did bring back memories, b ut I don't want to smell like that.
H as anyone noticed that Avon's SSS bar soap now smells like Lysol after you wash with it ? The original SSS fragrance is (was) really n ice.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Yes!!!! Dr. Lyons...wannadanc, you do realize that having re-inserted that into your memory bank, you just pushed something else aside??? Tomorrow we'll be trying to remember something that we knew today!!!

yup, put something new in and something else gets pushed out.
It's true. Limited space available.

Does Nabisco Shredded Wheat still grace the shelves in your grocery stores? Kellogs just doesn't make it. Our "local" store gets whatever the 'chain' dictates. you can get something special ordered if you want to take a whole case... but Nabisco is not on their list.

the other thing that's gone missing several years ago is FLUFFO a yellow Crisco... made by the same company but it made much better piecrust, flakier and better tasting too.

I saw something so neat today in my new issue of Taste of Home magazine that brought back a flood of memories!

Growing up we had these metal cups I just loved....anodized aluminum tumblers they were called. I didn't think they exsisted anymore but saw they are for sale in my new recipe magazine (6 cups for $25 total). I looked online and found the same set $1 cheaper (including S/H) at http://www.bettysattic.com/website/store/product_detail.asp?item_no=48312&keyword=&cat_keyword=&search_page_no=&UID=2006092900374636&page_no=1&qty=1

Does anyone else have a set of these! I have to get them! Course my Mom had a set of 8 and hers included a pink and a silver cup.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Hey, I remember those!

Lilesville, NC(Zone 7b)

Tir,

I do so remember and i have been looking for some of them as well.. I have been looking on ebay for them, they have lots of them although they can get quite expensive...lots of people are bidding on them. My dad wants a set of them, so was trying to get him some for christmas.

Good Luck in your hunt for them,

Char

Char,

you can get a set either at the link above or try www.shoptasteofhome.com

The taste of home site also has a set of 6 ice cream bowls and a pitcher you could buy of them. They are so cool!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

I think the Vermont old Country Store also has them. My DS liked one that DMIL had so well, she gave it to him. Don't anybody touch it!!

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Thanks for the answers!

Checked out their tumblers...they were okay but I like the ones with all the metallic color inside, these were silver in each and had a wider brim at the top. 4 tumblers are $24 from them. Nice that they also offer the bowls....never knew those exsisted growing up!

I've enjoyed the nostalgic trip down memory lane this thread has taken me. I was not familiar with everything but most brought a smile of remembrance.....

Now I want to try to describe a cookie I used to love and am hoping someone can tell me the name .......it was a coconut flavored sandwich type....named brand, probably Nabisco and I'm thinking it was square. I haven't seen any in years and so I'm assuming, sadly, that it has been discontinued. If I just knew the name, it would do my old heart good to be able to lodge a complaint with the maker.............can anyone help me? Thanks!

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Were they these? http://www.foodlocker.com/tafsancook.html I LOVE these cookies!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

If it is Nabisco, here's the link. You can look around. I'm wondering if you meant Cameos.

L'Occitane had a line of linden-scented items: linen water, shower gel, bar soap, etc. Discontinued now...*sigh*

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

A spearamint-flavored lip balm I used to buy at Sally's Beauty Supply. Discontinued...funny how you long for things like that. Oh, and I had bought some of that Twining's tea at the base store a while back. Not there the last time I went. Hardly worth going to the base to shop anymore.

I find my local HEB is always moving and discontinuing the sale of items...national AND generic brands! Wish there were more grocer options in my area besides them and Wal-Mart.

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

I love shopping at the px and commissaries (Sp) but it's been a few years since I did it on a day to day basis. I'm with ya Tir_Na_Nog we have Krogers and Walmart our HEBs and Market Basket are so dirty you can't shop at them.

I found my Twining's tea (Lady Grey decaff) at Spec's in Beaumont what do you drink Linda?

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

LOL araness,

Often we walk into HEB and DH holds his nose as they have the maze of produce right up front and there is often bad stuff they don't even pick out! Sometimes we do find good deals...but one of our favorite products there was the HEB brand blueberry muffins with STREUSAL topping....even the name brands didn't offer that one, and they PULLED IT!!! DOH! So now everytime we go in and see yet ANOTHER item not on the shelf we promise we won't shop there anymore. But despite all that they do tend to have mostly fresher produce than Wal-Mart.

But I'll tell ya, our staples like milk and bread we love from Sam's Club. I don't know HOW they can do it but not Wal-Mart but often these items have a week or better shelf life than the grocery stores! We've had milk with a 3 week long expiration date!!!! It's been really handy to stock up and not have to run out of staples like those.

The Wal-Mart closest to me is kinda ghetto dirty so I prefer not to go there often....hoping with their changing image they'll clean the place up a bit.

So as you can see...I'm as a loss for grocery shopping. LOL!

I can't find Folgers whole bean Columbian coffee anymore. If anyone can, please Dmail me.

I fell in love with Bath and Body Works Lavender & Vanilla aromatherapy bar soap. It had the cleanest, most wonderful scent, and made you feel so clean. My sister-in-law found some on ebay, and got a bar for me for Christmas last year, but haven't seen any more on there, since. Oh, I would buy a case if I could find it! (I contacted B&B online, and they said they didn't have it 'at this time'. I doubt they will be bringing it back.) Sigh.

MAY BOUGUET......O my word how I miss that from bath and body works. My daughter just this minute found an old bottle and it smells just like new... spraying it EVERYWHERE. Its been a long time. What a great old friend I miss. Anybody find any old may bouquet...you know who wants it :-) Perlier had some orange blosson spray that was delicious as well. I only found that once in life. At least BBW used to bring may boquet back out every mothers day.

I was at B&BW yesterday and they had the Lavender & Vanilla shampoo, but I didn't see other products. It was in bottles in the rotating stand next to the register where they keep the lip balms and travel sizes.

Weatherford, TX

Thanks andidandi! They still have some of the products in that scent, but the bar soaps are gone unfortunately.

barrington, IL(Zone 5a)

we used to have a set of those metal tumblers. your drink stayed cold forever!!! i miss salon selective's pump style mousse. i found some at big lot's a few years ago and bought all that they had.......but, alas, i've used up my supply. does anyone remember cheddar sprinkle cheese by kraft? they only make parmesan now and the different ones on the internet just don't have the same taste and that wonderful day-glow orange color. how about the pizza making kits that came with the flour to make the dough, the sauce and the cheese???

What's up with Folger's? No Columbian whole beans anymore. I can't get my Straight Up Latte either! It's just disappeared in a matter of a few months! I wish they'd at least post a sign saying "this item will soon be "unavailable". I hate it when I've been buying a product for * years * and suddenly, it just disappears. :-(

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Nick's granny, the pizza in a box was a huge favorite of ours when we were young marrieds. Wasn't it Chef Boyardee? We've wondered about that in recent years too.
