Good Morning and Happy Easter everyone,

M5,
Nice job on posting the daily and getting the links in there,,,,yeah!!!!!!

Sylvia,
Don't remember what strength. Was taking 2 in the a.m and 1, 4 - 6 hours later. Too lazy to get up and look,,,lol,,,Called Dr. Shrinks office and told the nurse what was going on. She asked some questions and then told me to cut out one of the pills. So, now 1 in the a.m. and one int he afternoon. She told me to get a hold of a neurologist and tell them what's happening,,,it maybe something with the CPAP. So, will call neurology Tues. a.m., then call her back to let her know how it was to be back on 2 per day instead of 3.

Was busy in the Salon the whole week, which is nice,,,Bill won't be getting a paychecks for 2 weeks yet. So twil be awfully tight til then. Oh well, just co lighter on somethings.

Marie and I went out to Foxfire Gardens this afternoon to speak with the owners about the possibility of a hosta co-op. We were there for approx. 2 hours. There aren't many hostas up yet, so he has to see what comes and then we'll put something together. Wow, that was the first time I've been there and didn't come home with hostas,,,lol. Although we each bought Steve's patented weeding tool,,,,"No Mercy" can't wait to use it. He showeed us how it worked and it will be so nice to have it. If anyone wants to check it out, their site is www.foxfiregardens.com

If it's nice tomorrow, I want to get 4 shrubs pulled out. Never liked them and will be putting another hosta bed there. Would also like to start picking some rocks up and bringing them home. However, we need rain already. I'm going to have to water tomorrow. Also gonna pull some hostas out and put them in containers for awhile.

Well, I'm yawning so much that my eyes are watering.
Good night all and have a wonderful Easter.

Happy Easter everyone!! Clouds rolled in here and rain will be following, but at least no dirt devils! (never heard that term before)

Had a grand and glorious time at DS/DIL. DIL family are the kind you read about in books- absolutely wonderful - a true family...(they have some misfits, but they are welcomed in with love too!) Food was yummy - but of course it wasn't ready and we all pitched in to make it -kept us all laughing. DIL's mother is a real air head (too much wacky weed) and she was in charge of deviled eggs - she brought the eggs - uncooked!

Our other DS/DIL never showed up, nor did they call to say they weren't coming...I tell you I'd like to chew them a new one...he wasn't brought up that way and I'm very unhappy with them both. I just can't abide rudeness like that.

Vi- that bread sounds really chocked full of everything!! Bet it's good for ya!

Patti - that's one huge orchid!! Love the color of it. I'm not an orchid person - yet!

Molly - after several years of doing taxes the night before, I got smart and decided to have them done in Feb. Best thing I ever did - I just fork over the cash and don't have the stress of doing them anymore - doing them was one of the worse things I could think of! All those instructions, all those numbers....but I always did them by hand (no computers back then!!)

tgif- you'll have to tell me how you did your meat -I've fixed it only one time and it turned out mushy.... I tried a new receipe too - grape salad. It was tasty - everyone wanted the recipe!!

I've been drooling over some tree peonies I saw yesterday. Anyone have one- are they really knock down gorgeous?

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Happy Easter to all of you dear friends,

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I am not hopping down a bunny trail or any other trail. All I am doing is packing. It's bad enough to pack up everything fragile before a construction crew is due to come in and do a major rehab on my house (my car is loaded with fragile heirlooms now), but to also be moving the whole county's archives into the new library at the same time.
I managed to have a meal with my kids and their families Friday night and then after working 1/2 day Saturday, met everyone at a picnic area in Pisgah National Forest for an Easter cook-out. But when I got home, I spent the evening packing. Eek!
You will never guess where I'm staying while the house is being rehabbed. In a cemetery! I guess I'm the only person to move into a cemetery and get to move out, lol. Actually it's old single-wide trailer that used to serve as an office. A new office is there now and this older trailer was used to bring in family couselors to train before they went to one of the company's other cemeteries. We are part of a small chain of 7.
Once we move back into our house, the older trailer/office will be pulled out. It's going to be a job. The whole thing is bricked in with brick half-way up the side of the trailer. All the outdoor nighttime spotlights are mounted on it, and I think the water is through shared lines, too.
I had to cancel my trip to the GA RU because of all this, boo hoo. But the end results are going to be wonderful.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

yes, Darius, I have three peony trees, still quite small and of course not in bloom yet, the won't be till June

Good Morning!

Quoting:
Let us rejoice and be glad; for this is the day the Lord hath made. Psalm 118:24

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Morning! Our balmy weather has taken a leave of absence, and it's gray and cool outside. Dmcd, hope your good weather continues. We got quite a bit done yesterday, mostly cleanup, but it sure felt good to be outside.

Maria, I just followed Kitty's directions...which, considering my nature, is a little unusual! I usually try to wing it and only resort to following instructions when that fails! Hope you have a great day with your family! Does Samson have to stay home and pout?

Sarv, it's probably just as well that both garden centers weren't open. Now you can do it again, and fill up the car with more stuff. I came home with five phlox, two hosta, two other pperennials I can't spell, and three elephant ear starts, (I was supposed to be picking up the early editions of the Sunday papers) ....this is a dangerous time of year.

Kooger, dust devil! I haven't heard that term for years. It must be a midwest phenomenon, we used to see them in summer in the corn and wheat fields.

Lauri, glad Salsa is doing well. For their size, horses are not as hardy as they look. One of my friends lost one last year. She was pretty old, but they took very good care of her. I think their vet is on speed dial.

Ann, that bread sounds very good. Back in the day when I was baking bread weekly I used to add granola to mine. If I found a good variety with a lot of whole grains and nuts, I'd process it a little finer, and it made the bread much better, both in flavor and texture. Love the end slice while it's still warm, with a good blob of butter on it.

Kittymom, that Wile E. has a happy face! I knew you had him but hadn't seen a picture. Good job getting the photo posted.

Tgif, we won't need our A/C on for a while yet either, I hope. We usually go from cool rainy spring right into flat out sweat your buns off weather. I am grateful that we have it when that arrives. You can always put on more clothes when it's cold, but there's a limit to how much you can do without when the temp hits the nineties.

Elaine, have a Happy Easter. Isn't it interesting that the pagans celebrated the coming of spring with many of the symbols that are used today to celebrate Easter? Renewal of the growing season is a joy, world wide, in all cultures. Easter in Wisconsin is often accompanied by snow!

Darius, pretty brave buying a used bus. It isn't what they say has been repaired, it's what they leave out. DH has been pretty successful with cars, but he knows the vehicles he buys inside and out and knows what to ask, before he commits to buying. He's gotten burned a couple of times on restoration parts, from sellers who misrepresented the condition, but has done well with cars. Don't school buses run on diesel fuel? That makes winter starts a problem, diesel gels at very low temps. On the other hand, it's your sister who is making the purchase so I guess it's not your problem! (Just sticking my nose in because of DH's car addiction) How's the house hunt going? Any possibilities?

Pati, that orchid is stunning! Good luck with your starter piece, I've never been brave enough to try orchids but I've been tempted! I have enough trouble keeping my minimal number of house plants alive through winter. The Geranium has been moved to the deck, where it can shed petals at will.

Molly, keep an eye on those lilies, we might be planning a midnight excursion! Nice of you to label them for us! The ones you sent me last year have all come up nicely, and look fine. Can't wait for them to bloom. I'll post photos so you can see what the two unnamed one look like.

Speaking of lilies. We have some of those orange ditch lilies that I've been slowly eradicating because I just loathe them. Yesterday, while I was gone to the store, DH dug up about a dozen, and planted them alongside the south side of the new garage! He said I won't be able to see them...but I'll know they are there. ( I'll dig them out and replace them with the Stella d'Oros I wanted to move and, trust me, he will never know the difference. )

Dcat, you sure had a busy couple of days!! It's so much fun to do kid's birthdays, and watch them enjoy their presents! Exhausting, though! Today should be a *little* calmer and by Monday, you will have a chance to relax and recover. How's your back? Be careful when you start doing your gardening so you don't get something out of whack again.

That goes for you too, Mary! How did the ride go? Successful completion, I'll bet.

Ummmm, who asked about the peonies/roses? We put them along the west side of the garage , which creates yet another flower bed. Someday I'm going to sketch out a map and count them. Not today. Had a surprise where we had dug up the septic access, forgot I planted a couple dozen daffys, and they are blooming! Wonder what else I put there...Sometimes it pays to have CRS.

WS, at least you will have quiet neighbors!! Too bad about the RU, though. Hope they do the rehab quickly so you can be back in comfort soon. Knowing how contractors work, that might be wishful thinking. But you'll be happy with the end result and that's what counts.

I think my beautimous garbage can/rock abomination will be cut down to make a root barrier for the pampas grass I want to put along the property line, to keep it confined.

~~~~ to mags, Bal, Okus, Babs, BB, Happy and whoever else is out there, getting ready for a happy today, and egg salad tomorrow.
Later,
Sheila
Happy Easter everyone!!!
I'm on my way to church and will be having lunch with my in-laws afterwards. I hope each of you has a beautiful Easter. I know we don't all have the same beliefs, so I hope you don't mind me sharing this with you. I find it very humbling, though.
Sheila,
I am so glad yall remember who needs to send me pictures of the DL's I sent out without name tags. I couldn't remember for the life of me who. But I have photos of all I have bought so will be able to ID the cultivar.
By the way, I have been soliciting ditch lilies for postage for my 300 ft swale down by the dirt road. Hadn't you heard? Hasn't your husband heard??????!!!!!! When you get your Stella's, I'll be watching for that package of ditch lilies. :^))))
I already had some given to me that were roots with just a little green. They are now up to 6-8 inches. They don't seem to mind the dust, sun and lack of water down there, which is exactly why I wanted the ditch lilies.
You know where I am Sheila. Oh yes, and who's making the midnight raid on my newest Daylily Field? Did I mention we have a HUGEEEEE Great Dane in residence now?
I have work to do now yall, keep me out of here until I am done.......please.
M5. Molly is looking for ditch lilies for the very front of her property!
As to the bus, we are the high bidder so far, and the auction ends tonight. Actually, my sister is just putting up the money with a lien on the title. Bruce will own it as he wants to make a camper out of it but doesn't have the front money. (He will make payments to her.) We will get to use it to move all the stuff here (once we have a place to go) and again to move all my stuff stored in NC. Probably pay him a grand for the use, including him driving it north for us.
He has owned one before, and has worked on them (mechanic) so we have few worries.
Ann the bread sounds wonderful! Kooger sent me some red river cereal, and I've been saving it. Maybe use it in bread as you did!
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
LOL, Molly! We cross-posted.
Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)
Ya beat me to it, darius. :) Ann, Red River Cereal is my favorite cereal! I get it at HyVee in the US, only place I have ever found it. You can get it online too. Just google it and there's recipes too.
http://www.redrivercereal.com/ For those not familiar with the area, it is from the Red River area, in North Dakota and Manitoba. Remember the periodic flooding in Fargo, ND? It's from the Red River.
Yes to who asked yesterday, the dust/dirt devil came out of the corn field, full of corn leaves, and hit the house. Bet she's wondering where all those leaves came from, they just spent hours raking the lawn a few days earlier. lol Sounded like saber rattling!
Ok, gotta get moving, can't be late for church. Older 2 DSs are coming and Kandyce and Kayleigh too. DD and DGD are coming after their church. Yippee! Have to admit, I enjoy their company! lol
south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)
M5 - ohhh the nurseries WERE open - just not crowded!! I drove home a trunk full. Didn't get any annuals, as it is a bit too early to house them - I got perennials (that I don't have spaces for) I am on a phlox kick...bought four new ones. When they bloom the end of the summer, my gardens are looking sad, so they are a pick me up.
man, I would have thrown a fit to have ditch lilies put by the house!! I threw some in our fence row where the weeds are as tall as I am and they always come up and bloom - they are indestructible!
DH and I are arguing about a new storm door for the front of the house. I want one of those glass doors from top to bottom. He wants one with a self storing screen (we have that now) I've been glaring at him...told him the house was mine to decorate - the barn was his. He will probably win because he has to install it...
waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)
We have one of the full glass ones, and it's so easy to take the screen/glass out when the seasons change. It makes a much better appearance, and it's not any more difficult to install than the self-storing kind. You might even find one the same size as your existing one, if you're lucky.
Good thinking Darius, it takes a mechanic to keep those things running well, so the plan you have in mind is top notch. I should have known that you'd have all the bases covered!!
OK Molly if the sun is out tomorrow and the wind isn't howling, you can expect a package of those orange things, they are already up 6 to 8 inches, too. Good riddance!! LOL And, not to worry, we have a good supply of dog biscuits to bribe the dog. Danes look fierce but love to munch on treats, so I ain't skeered!
Overfull from breakfast, time for a snooze. Perfect day, now it's raining!
Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)
Happy Easter everyone. It's a glorious day here in Canada's national capital. My crocuses have lasted through today, but many will be spent by tomorrow. I have my first early tulips blooming right in the middle of the crocuses. Don't know why, but this bunch keeps coming back year after year while most die out after a couple of years. And on the east side of my house, I will have a daffodil in a day or so.
On the Canadian forum, Todd Boland has posted pics of small crocuses and I put a more recent pic of the swath of crocuses in front of my house if anyone wants to take a look.
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/591339/
My new crocuses in my new garden are little ones like Todd is showing; so I think I will dig them out and group them in one spot. They really need to be massed for effect. My big sassy ones will overwhelm them if they get mixed up.
Red River Cereal is a cooked cereal, and IS put out by a Canadian company. Contains cracked wheat, cracked rye and flax - both cracked and whole. To use it in bread, I pour boiling water over it and let it sit for awhile. Actually, since the brown rice has to be cooked too, I prepare both the rice and the Red River cereal ahead, divide into 6 portions and freeze for 6 batches of bread. BTW, I use short grain brown rice.
And I subscribe to the pound the H*** out of it theory. I reckon kneading bread kept me from beating my kids years ago.
DH is out washing my car an applying wax. My job to polish it off as it might be a bit much for him yet. DH has toy cars - a 1965 Porsche 356C cabriolet that he bought NEW; so it is in mostly original condition though it needs a new soft top and a 1955 Cadillac Coup de Ville that belonged to his aunt's inlaws in Portland, OR. When they died, his aunt got it to DH's parents in Alberta and it's been here for about 20 years. It's a great car to tour the attractions if you want people to look at you. He occasionally drives neighbourhood girls or friends to their weddings. Anyway, in the winter, he stores the Porsche on top of the Cadillace, thus making our two-car garage into a THREE car garage. He plans to get the Porsche down tomorrow; so my car will have to sit out and get crapped on by birds. Thus a new coat of wax. I'll attach a pic of the two in the garage. You'll have to look closely to see the Porsche because it's all covered up above the Caddy.
Gotta go. DD, SIL and grandtwins are coming for dinner. Have to make dinner. But first, I have to clean off that horizontal filing cabinet known as the dining room table. LOL
Well, it is 5:30 and I have survived thus far. It has been a hectic day, but a good one.
I took DM to early church, then DH and I went to a neighborhood church at 11:00. Was a good service. Had to take DGD 30 miles to meet her mother and be there at 2:30. So it was a tight squeeze, getting lunch and then the trip to take her home. But it is done.
Yesterday's birthday cookout, was easy, and today's lunch was something that I cooked yesterday also. Baked a ham, and had the left over potato salad and baked beans with it. It was good. Have enough ham left over to do several more meals.
Sarv, is it you who does the macaroni, cheese and ham casserole? Do you just do macaroni & cheese and add the ham, or is it something different. Let me know, as I would like to try it.
Last night we went to J. C. Penneys. DH was looking for a pair of dress pants. When we married, he wore a size 29" waist. Well the years have added inches, and he started trying on 34", too tight, 36" too tight, but by pulling them below the pot gut, would work. I didn't like the looks of them, so went out and found a 38" and took them for him to try on. Well they fit, and looked really good. He was going to get them, then looked at the size, and refused to buy a 38"!! Talk about vanity. So the resolution, (that should have been a new years one) is to loose weight. So my mission now is to prepare some low cal meals, make them attractive and taste yummy too. Can anyone say SALADS, and plenty of them?
Well, gotta go try to find something to eat. Not fixing a meal, as there are plenty of left overs, that need to be used.
I will be back later.
south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)
defo -it wasn't me who did mac, cheese and ham. I do scalloped potatoes and ham...but the mac/ham sounds good!! But then I love most food.
DH did a pork roast and is making potatoes, veggie and salad. I have been rooted to the chair all day - just pooped from yesterdays gala.
Wild wind here and gloomy clouds. We were spoiled by yesterday's sun and warm weather. I even got a little burn!
Can't believe how 'weather' affected I am!
Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)
Defoe, the secret, and it really is not one, hardly eat any carbohydrates, and only wheat bread, (one slice a day)no pasta, lots of fruit and vegetables chicken and pork, no salty meats such as cold cuts or ham, no fried foods or sweet stuff ever. Thiis is how I cooked for my husband whe he was ill and could not do any exercises but sit or sleep, he did not put on one ounce and kept his weight of 150 lbs. since the day we we were married, he was 6 feet tall. I am on the same diet today or I would blow up like a baloon, lol. When I eat a four course dinner I put on three lbs, have to watch my intake a few days to get it off again.
Had a wonderful time being with my daughter and her family, Emma,
my GGD, she is smart as a whip only three years old but nearly knows more than most 6 year olds but of course her temperament is that of a two year old, very spoiled, when her brother arrives in August she'll be cut down a step or two, lol
Yes, Sheila, Samson had to stay at home he too is spoiled , wants to have more attention then ever before, wonder if the operation has something to do with it, he is very jealous of the computer and start growling and barking at me till I have to stop and put him out or in his crate, he can be a pain in the neck.
Sarv, weather has been beautiful here too but a sweater was needed because of the cold breeze that took away the warmth of the sun.
Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)
Hi everyone and Happy Easter!!
We left at 6am, drove to Rochester ( around 4 hours) met oldest DD at the chapel for Mass, then went to brunch. We hung out for a couple hours so the kids could talk and laugh, then headed home. Long day in the car! DH drove, and I brought my nice down pillow so I could look at farms and snooze. It was sunny and not much traffic.
Ann- that is a great car! At first reading I thought the Caddy was your everyday car! OMG you would have to be dressed up and wearing a snazzy hat I think! LOL about the horizontal filing cabinet. Someday i should post a picture of mine...no, it would be embarrassing.
sarv-Glad you had a "grand and glorious day"! I read with interest how the kids have turned out = all luck of the draw right? you can get super inlaws (what a bonus, a whole nother family, free!) or have crabby kids and DILS and everything else....wonder what I'll get? (I'm thinking crabby, but...) I can't imagine not showing up, no word said...wow. Go figure....Glad it didn't wreck the day for you.
Kelly-I hope you're getting better already, I missed what is CPAP?
woodspirit- LOL on moving into a cemetery and getting to move back out! Good luck with the renovations, they can be stressful. At least the cemetery should be peaceful! An Easter cookout sounds great. It was too cool here for any thoughts of cookouts, but at least it was sunny.
Maria_Happy Easter! Glad you had fun with GGD! I like your diet recommendations, maybe that's a plan I can follow.
darius- We sang that psalm in church today, and right at the end the sun broke through the clouds and came streaming in, as if on cue. I love it when we get "positive reinforcement" like that! The bus plan sounds like it's working out, good for you.
Molly I will get to the ditch lilies, is your address in the exchange?
kooger-so good to hear Kandyce is back in circulation, hope you all had a great day!
dcat-another cookout, okay I'm jealous, haven't had a cookout in months...well our time will come. I have to admit, I'm getting like your DH I won't buy bigger sizes, so pretty soon I'll be going everywhere in my bathrobe since it's the only thing that still fits!
m5-Is this Sammi's first Easter? How did he celebrate...sorry....I thought I'd see him here, batting jelly beans or curled up in an Easter basket, or maybe with long ears???LOLOL
Elaine-Happy Easter. I bet you''re having gorgeous weather and it really feels like spring!
Happy Easter to everyone else who checks in!! It was a wonderful day (but i'm glad to be out of the car LOL)
Maria, sounds like a good recipe to maintain health and lose unwanted fat! I eat a lot like that, mostly. Like everyone, I fall off the wagon sometimes.
I'm making a pork tenderloin tomorrow, haven't yet decided what recipe, but probably with leeks, tomatoes and dry white wine. Just my sister and me since the kid only eats junk food.
Starkville, MS
Maria - keep in mind that you have many activities, children, grandchildren, DG, yard work, housework, etc, etc.... Samson has YOU period!!!!! He has ten times the energy and 1 tenth the outlet for that energy. If you can find some (more or less) indestuctable chew toys, throw them out in the yard, and leave him outside more during the day, it might spread his focus (and energy) some. He loves you, but give him something else to love when you can't be with him even when you are at home.
Darius - if you like the pork loin with rosemary, try the sweet potatoes with it - they are the best side dish ever! I'll post how I did them if anyone wants the recipe,
I've been checking in here and there throughout the day, so, I don't remember all that everyone said. I do know that there were some that I would comment on if I could get it all together in my head! I will try to re-read and *maybe* I will get some of those comments posted! (Don't hold your breath!!)
Today got a bit scattered when my DB called to see if we were home and could we stand a little company (he and our Mother). I said come on in, have you had lunch yet? He said no, but didn't want to come begging. Well, the day me 'mither' misses lunch will be a *long* way off, so I told them sandwiches were available. From there things turned into a fun filled afternoon! I took Mom on a tour of my little garden areas on the golf cart after lunch while DB and DH finished setting up the clock DB gave us.
Ya'll may not believe this, but my brother found this clock on the side of the street for trash pick up!!! It is 4 feet wide and 7 feet tall! It has a beautiful Westminster chime and looks great in the front parlor. It isn't antique. It was built by some furniture company quite literally as a piece of furniture that just happens to tell time. I am the only one in the family that has a place for something that big - so I got it!
It was a wonderful day even though I didn't get a lot done outside. Spending the afternoon with 'me mither' was the greatest Easter gift in the world. I see her a least once a week, but every day with her is a treasure. I am well aware that I don't have "forever" with her - she is 93 1/2, but she is still mentally sharp as a tack, and I have every intention of making the most of my time with her!
I hope you *all* have had a beautiful day!
Hi All,
Kids and grandkids have come and gone. Dinner was a success. DD won't eat meat. DSIL won't eat seafood. So chicken. But I wanted to do something a bit different. Loblaws Stores here put out a line of products under the president's Choice label. I've occasionally seen them in some US stores and I've seen the trucks on the road in the US; so you might be able to find this somewhere. I got a blend of rice called "Texmati" Royal Blend Basmati.It is a blend of American Basmati white and brown rice with wild and red rice. Obviously processed in some way because it cooks in about 15 minutes. But NO added seasoning which is the drawback to most rice mixtures; so no high sodium content. I cooked it up with red onions, a few chopped up sun-dried tomatoes and some spinach. Then I pounded chicken breasts flat and put some of the rice in the middle of each. Rolled them up and tied them with string. Cooked them in the oven with convection on for about 35 minutes at 350. Made a sauce of the juice of one orange, some of the zest, a bit of cranberry juice, some water and bit of teriyaki sauce. Some pureed ginger and a couple of teaspoons of cornstarch. It all worked and was a hit with everyone.
DGD was intrigued by the crocuses in the yard and when they closed up as the sun went down, she was trying to "open" them. She just flits from one flower to another. I sent three of the small tulips which are now blooming home with her. DGS, her twin, could hardly care less about the flowers. Interesting how different they are.
tgif - that clock is some find. Sure glad you got it before the trash collectors got there. Is it in working order? Or maybe I should say, WAS it working when you found it? I love old clocks. We have two, both working, but nothing as spectacular as that.
Darius, you pork tenderloin sounds good. Can elaborate a bit on how you prepare it?
dmc, glad you had a good, if fast, trip to Rochester. Sometime if you are there with more time on your hands, try Hogan's Hideaway for lunch or dinner. They are on Park Ave., at Goodman. If that Caddy was my everyday car, I'd have to wear a hat and gloves, don't cha think? One summer, DH forgot to register it. He drove it around most of the summer before he noticed it. Nobody bothered to look at the expiration on the plates. LOL You all might enjoy this pic I scanned recently of my daughter and one of her bridesmaids decorating if before her wedding (1998).
Maria, the diet sounds quite sensible. But I'd like a bit more conplex carbohydrates in mine. I notice that the people in my church (and there were quite a few) who were on Atkins or South Beach diets have virtually all put back on every pound that they shed a year or so ago.
Bonnie, LOL about the vanity. But a good thing maybe. If the problem is a big tummy, there seems to be increasing evidence linking it with the liklihood of heart problems. Let's hope the diet works.
Hope all the rest of you had a blessed Easter.
That is some clock, tgif, can't imagine some one throwing it away but at least you have it and it works. Thais the problem Samson has he only has me, it is no wonder he goes bananas when I have guests, just loves people. I do play a lot with him such as walking around with him and throwing balls till he gets tired and he knows when he has reached that stage just drops the ball where it landed and stays there, lol.
Pork tenderloin is one of my favorite meat, I usually brown it in olive oil on top of the stove and finish rosting it in the oven. but before I do that I remove pork from the pan and add dry white wine to scrape the bottom add a quarter cup of jam such as apricot or jelly you might prefer. add the scallions and mushrooms that I sauted at he very beginning put the pork back spoon sauce over it and roast for about 25 minutes more, depending on the size.. I it my very own conjured up recipe.of course ther is salt and pepperberfore browning it and after taking off the thin skin.
This really belongs on cooking but was tempted to tell Darius how I make it, hope it will not bore anyone. To this I might Add that my daughter made it last Friday for her family, and removed the frying pan from the oven without protecting her hand, she was badly burned and suffered with it for seven hours through the night though she kept her hand in icey water.
Evening everyone
Well, I finally got here at last to see what everyone has been up to today!
DMC~ so sorry to tell you but we had a picnic also. Went to my DSIL for lunch after church. We had hamburgers and hotdogs with baked beans and cole slaw. There was lemon meringue? (spelling) pie, pecan pie and cookies which were baked and decorated by the kids ... oh and of course Easter eggs! LOL
Defoe~ sounds like you've been busy. So glad your picnic was a success with your DGD. Also sounds like your Easter was wonderful, even if it was a bit hectic.
tgif~ what a find on that clock! And how lucky you are to still have your Mother. I'm so glad she's still in good health. That's a *real* blessing. I, too, am fortunate to have both of my parents, although they are only in their early 70's.
Sarv~ your DH sure cooked a delicious sounding meal!
Darius~ hope the bus deal goes through.
Maria~ glad you had a nice day with your family. Ahw that Samson ... he's such a character. LOL He's worth it all, though, isn't he! :)
And speaking of good sounding meals ... ViAnn, yours sure sounded wonderful! It's difficult to fix when there are folks with so many different likes and dislikes, but you did a remarkable job.
Anne~ how did your DS like his Easter basket? Hope y'all had a wonderful day.
Pati~ hope your Easter was filled with hope and love and many flowers in your garden. :) Oh, and speaking of hope ... hope those knees are all better now. :-)
Well, this post is getting quite lengthy so I'll just wave to the rest of y'all for now. Sometimes they have a tendency to go poof on me so excuse me if I didn't speak to you directly this time. Here's hoping everyone had a wonderful day with friends and family.
...Elaine
Maria ... we posted at the same time! Your pork tenderloin recipe sounds like the way I fix mine. :) I like to use garlic, shallots and fresh herbs but cook it like you do.
I often marinate my pork tenderloin in a marinade of teriyaki sauce, rice vinegar, ginger, garlic, a bit of ketchup, some thyme, a bit of mustard, and some sesame oil. Don't have amounts for any of above as I generally "wing" it. I like it best BBQ'd. I appreciate other ideas and yours sounds great, Maria.
your does too Ann, many times I do as you say "wing it" it is hard then to give it as a proper recipe
Whew, all this talk about food has put pounds on me!!. I have volunteered to be "hostess" for my mom's church group on the 4th of May, and I had thought about a pork loin for the main course. Being a hostess means that you furnish the meat, bread and drinks for the meal. Everything else is pot luck or carry in.
Vanity may be a good thing!!. Starting tomorrow, we will be eating less bread, less carbohydrates, more salad, and green vegetables. We primarily eat chicken and pork so I don't think that any changes will be made there.
Sounds like everybody had a good holiday weekend. And the food/picnics/cookouts/eating out/ sounded good.
On Thursday, went to a farm/garden store looking for pepper plants, and found a new plant, propogated by a local fellow. It is called broccoflower. It is a cross between cauliflower and broccoli. I understand that it heads like cauliflower, but tastes like broccoli. So, of course I bought 4 plants, and they are already in the garden. I hope I won't be dissapointed. Will give you an accounting later in the season. Always up for trying new things.
Well, tomorrow is back to the hum drum. Have a chiro appointment first thing in the morning, then home to do some "homemaker" things, then hope to repot the rest of my tomatoes. Supposed to get some rain tonight, so may not be able to get out in the gardens.
Going to get in the bed before long, it has been a long, good weekend, but I am sure tired.
Will catch up with everyone in the morning, hope all sleep and rest well tonight.
Defoe, don't forget the fruit and also eat a lot of plain fat free yogart with perhaps a little blueberry jam mixed with it, or fat free cottage cheese with pineapples
good night all
