LOL, Sarv, about the Dentist
That is funny, Kooger, I for one would not want any pop corn just smelling it makes me sick to my stomach. I used ask my husband for his handerchief before seeing a movie so I would not have to smell that, since it permeates the whole lobby of the theater, he thought that was so funny , never met any one who can't stand pop corn
Coffee and...For Tuesday, March 21, 2006 =^..^=
Well finally heard from Dr.a nd they say all the labs came out fine and they don't know why he is so tired after about 2 p.m. Going to find another Dr. that isn't a twit. Hi to all and love the AAADD it's me already LOL...Lauri
Helloooo, I survived the dentist, and my face is mostly awake now. I metabolize it pretty fast so he really loaded me up. I had a bowl of not quite hot soup for lunch since I could only feel part of my mouth and didn't want to bite down on my lip or cheek, just enough food to keep me from starving while I did some shopping. Sarv, you are worse than me, here, I'm passing the Coward's Crown to you. I've had it long enough.
Kooger, I'm glad to hear the good news about Kandyce's surgery. How long will she be hospitilized?
Babs, I had to laugh about the dictionary definitions, and more about you picking and choosing what kind of offal you will eat. No haggis for me, thanks, even though I'm quite a bit Scottish. Maybe not having been raised with traditions is a plus, you think? On the other hand, I do eat sausages and they have "things" in them. My hubby made the mistake of reading some labels once, now he just eats it and doesn't think about the ingredients it may have. I'm sorry you had such a bad asthma attack, do you have to work tonight? I hope not, it doesn't sound like you got much sleep. Interesting about the coffee being part of the cure.
Maria, my temporary crown is plastic. I have to remember not to bite down on anything hard on that side. So, no carrot sticks, nuts, etc, and nothing chewy/sticky like carmel candy. I'd better not even take jerky on my endurance trip, I might forget when thinking about other things. Eating on those trips gets to be pretty mechanical. There are lots of soft things I can eat, yogurt, peanut butter and jam sandwiches, string cheese, bananas, so I won't starve. I could even resort to something out of a can, I have a camp stove but rarely use it, eating out of the ice chest and cupboard is easier.
Waaaa, I had better avoid the popcorn while I have this temp crown on. I know popcorn is soft but every so often you bite down on a partly popped kernal that is like a rock. Why didn't you all start talking about it yesterday when I would have popped up a big panfull. I use corn oil in the bottom of a heavy pan, heat it, add the popcorn just 1 kernal deep to cover the bottom of the pan, shake it holding the lid while it pops, pour into a bowl, add melted butter and a bit of salt. Just how much butter? Well, I think about 1/3 of a cube for a 3 quart potfull. I melt it so it is ready as soon as the popcorn hits the bowl. A tupperware or similiar bowl is great for popcorn, dump, pour, sprinkle, snap on the lid and shake violently for 10 seconds.
Darius, I think I have aaadd, that's how a lot of my days go. That is one reason getting ready to leave for the weekend is such a big deal. It's worse for the first ride of the season because I bring things in from the trailer to wash and don't take them back, or forget what is there, and just plain get out of practice when I haven't hardly looked in there since the end of October.
Kelly, my hubby worked the 3rd shift for years, sometimes for a couple of years without a break. He never felt rested, and when he got to go to another shift I found out what a nice guy I had married. Some people do very well on it however, and actually prefer it because it gives a person a whole day to do what you want while the rest of the world is awake. The first day is the worst. Tell him to hang in there for a while, he might get moved around to a different shift with a promotion which you say will come pretty quickly.
I'm making a batch of soft oatmeal cookies with raisins for my trip. I'll bring a platefull to the table. See you later.
Have to add this, Mary, my temps. were plastic too, I ate everthing even steak, and they are not front teeth, it took them forever to finally get them off for the permanent ones, That must have been some cement and please tell me why you had a problem ? What were you loaded up with?
This is a total mystery to me.
It's been a long day. Sammi is fine, but the first thing he did was head for the litter pan, and I swear he must have had a half a cup of wee in him because he just kept going. Then he had to have a snack. Then it was time to jump on Mini, she didn't even complain too much. Now they are curled up in the kitty cave (We built in a spot to put firewood, but the cats took it over, so it's all theirs now) for about two hours. If he licks at his operation he might have to get a collar put on so I hope he leaves it alone.
When I got home I had a message from my friend who got her kitty from the same rescue place. First of all, they claim their cats have all been checked over by a vet and are healthy. Well, if a vet checked her cat, he must have gotten his license on Ebay. Poor thing has: 1) Ear mites 2) a virus of some kind, coughing and sneezing, 3) RINGWORM (which my friend now has also) so I can't tell you how happy I am that I decided not to take the sick female. She has over $300 in vet bills already for this poor thing, and it's not over yet. Oh, and he has a bad tooth that needs to be pulled. They should close that organization down. They have cats listed on petfinder, too. All the kittens in the Sunday ads were sold immediately!
Yes, Ann we are three meezers now, but there's not much point in changing email etc. as the number is subject to change! My dentist visit went fine, first half hour was catching up on family life, Nancy's mother passed away about a week ago. She had Alzheimer's for ten years, so they truly lost her a long time ago.
I've sort of lost my taste for awful offal over the years. My dad used to buy beef hearts, which have a texture like giblets. We called them Bee ...well, you know.
GG It takes about two weeks to adjust your internal clock to a different rhythm. When I was working in a hospital, we switched shifts every two weeks, but you can handle that when you are young
Kooger, that's great news about Kandyce. So glad it went well and she will be able to monitor it.
Darius, you won't be lonesome tomorrow...when your friends visit. Must be pretty quiet though. We used to make popcorn in a heavy pan with oil in the bottom to prevent burning, and then drizzle melted butter over it once it was in the bowl. I would guess about a quarter cup of butter to a quart of already popped corn. Butter would burn if you used it in the popping pan. Some of the microwave popcorn is ok, but home popped is the best. I like lots of butter! And salt. Neither of which are appropriate for my medical condition! I sort of like Kooger's method too!
Sarv, you've got me thinking about getting a laptop.....would be nice to watch tv and play at the same time.
~~~ to all, peace to those who are worried about family members, and good wishes for all our DG friends.
Here's my exhausted little man....
Yippee! One computer problem down. I now have FTP access for ALL of the web sites to which I contribute pages.
Now to tackle fonts..... tomorrow maybe. Apparently I should be able to download those missing fonts off my version of WP8 or maybe 9 which I had at the Food Cupboard.
Want to catch up later messages today and then go practice the viola. Have an orchestra rehearsal tomorrow evening. and I won't have time to practice during the day.
Tomorrow morning, i will go to aquafit. Then come home and take DH to the Dr.'s office to have his catheter removed. He can hardly wait even though he knows there will be a period of incontinence for awhile. Also have to find out if they will let him drive. I know he wants to go sit in his office and I'm getting tired of having him sitting around here all the time. It's all of about 3 km to drive there through quiet residential streets.
In the afternoon, I'll go in to FC and have promised successor that I will stick around for an hour or so after it closes to help him with some things (like end of February stats ). LOL
dmc - sounds scary with your whole house propeed up like that. How's the foundation work going?
Hope you find out who has the horses.
Babs, LOL about your description of awful offal. Glad you came through the Asthma attack OK. That's really frightening. I've noticed even at the pool some times in the past that heavy smokers just ooze stale smoke from their pores. Will decaf coffee have the same effect on Asthma as regular coffee?
Sarv - maybe it's time for a second phone line or high speed. With our high speed, it's the kind that goes over the phone line, but doesn't interfere. So we gave up our second line but got caller ID.
BTW, the second phone line was never put in with computer in mind but was the legacy of a teen-ager who eventually moved out.
Kelly - nice to hear from you. Hope Bill is able to adjust to the night shift schedule.
Kooger - glad to hear that Kandyce did OK with the surgery. Please keep us posted on her recovery.
Popcorn - never got addicted to the butter. Without it, it can be a great diet food. Three cups or something like that for 1 Weight-Watchers point. High in fibre, low in calories. My father used to make it in a large cast iron skillet. needs someone with strong arms to shake it though.
Speaking of WW, I was down .4 lb last Friday but forgot to report it. Overall, I guess that's a total of 1 pound in 2 weeks.
Lauri - glad the labs didn't show anything awful, but it's still worrying not to have a reason. Good luck on round 2.
Mary - you DO have to be a bit careful of those plastic temps (though they'd probably get you in there in a hurry for a replacement if you had a problem). It's still a whole lot better than the old aluminum ones they used to use with their metallic taste and they look pretty normal. Are you getting a gold crown or a procelain one? All of mine are gold but the gal who cleaned my teeth this morning said many women opt for porcelain.
Sheila - glad to hear that Sammi is home.
This might be the final check in this evening; so hope you all have a good night.
Ann
Hi people,
Oh dear, where to start? Just took a brief foray into the chatroom for only the second (and most likely the last) time and was completely confused, lost, and befuddled.
Kooger, I think I might have been the one who asked if you were the relay operator. I really feel bad for you (and the others doing this job) having to be in the middle of these scam phone calls. It just makes me extra mad at the creep who's trying to pull off one of these con jobs. On another note, I'm so glad to hear that Kandyce's surgery seems to have been successful. I hope she won't ever have to go through anything like this again --- and that you and your son won't ever have to either.
Darius, come on ----- how much butter?? As much as you can get away with! Honestly, I have one of those air-poppers and you're supposed to use the cup on top (probably 1/4 to 1/3 cup) both to measure the popcorn and to melt the butter. I don't because: 1. It doesn't melt it that effectively. and 2. It's not enough butter!
Liver? Eeeew, aaack, etc., etc. Never could stand the stuff! It was the one thing I catagorically refused to cook when I was the cook in a small nursing home ---- if they wanted that stuff it had to be on my days off. When I was a kid my mother would cook liver and onions for hersellf and my father and I remember the dismal supper the rest of us would have. All of us kids would end up with bacon, mashed potatoes, and corn for supper as none of us would touch that evil stuff. I once was a guest at a friend's house for a major turkey dinner with all the trimmings. I took one bite of the bread stuffing which contained all manner of things, including raisins, and all I could taste was LIVER! because she had used the giblets in the mixture. That was the end of that meal as far as I was concerned.
Awww, poor Sammi. He really does look quite worn out. I'm sure he's extremely glad to be back home. Sorry the girl kitty didn't work out. I don't blame you for not wanting to take in a cat with a mystery illness, but I do hope the poor thing gets better and finds a good home.
Sarv, sounds like you need to have more restful days to make up for your busy nights! I've never had quite that experience. Usually if I remember my dreams at all they're either extremely terrifying or lacking in any rhyme or reason whatsoever.
Bonnie, to answer your question on yesterday's post, yes Mondays I'm still usually hanging about the house. It's the only day that my store is closed, so I guess at the moment it's the island of stability in the sea of change! DH's schedule is crazy. I hope it won't be changing constantly like this every week. Today his hours were 4:30 PM to 12 AM. I'm sure he'll be dragging when he gets home sometime tomorrow morning! So far though, he seems to be enjoying the job and his fellow employees and that's a big plus.
GG, as you can see above, I can really empathize with you and your SO!
Babs, so sorry you had to suffer that asthma attack! I don't know how you can keep your cool when it's such a battle just to draw a breath. I hope things aren't anywhere near so crazy if you have to work again tonight.
~~~~~~~~~Waving to 101, 9kittymom, Mary, ViolaAnn, Maria, suzieq, lauri, dmcd, oz, pati, leaflady, and all of our absent friends. Goodnight and sweet dreams (with no heavy lifting!).
Gosh, I got lost today, meant to get back here but life happened. When I got back from a follow up on the colonoscopy, and errands, was running late. Had scheduled an antique buyer to come by at 1:00. Well, he came, looked at a drop leaf table, a steamer trunk and some glassware about 10 pieces, and offered me $150 for the lot. I wondered if he thought I was just off th turnip truck? Of course I refused. Then did some prep for the evening meal, and rested. Spent quite a bit of time on the internet tonight, planning our vacation in June.
You all have had all sorts of adventures/adversities/triumphs and good news today. Seems like it was dentist day. I went to the dentist last Thursday, got the braces tightened, and checked. Have another appointment on monday for a cleaning. Tomorrow is grocery day, gee I sure look forward to that!, Then on Thursday, DH, D(twin)S, BIL and I are going to a casino about 100 miles away, we will spend the night, and they have a gourmet breakfast which is included in the package, then home. This is an early birthday celebration for me and DS.
Kooger, right after I posted the Whos' Kandyce question, it immediately came to me. I am so glad to hear that the surgery was successful.
Darius, if you would post more often, we could keep you company and you wouldn't be lonesome. I am glad that you have company coming. How did you know that I had that dreaded disease?
Babs, sorry to hear of your asthma attack. And thanks for the heads up on Offal. Don't do anything besides the muscle parts of an animal. I have to know what it is before I eat it.
Viann, seems that slowly but surely you are getting that computer set up. Really takes a lot of time doesn't it.
McCool, glad to hear that DH is happy with his job. I imagine that as long as he has been without one, it is just a good feeling being productive again. Give him a hug for me.
GG sorry to here that SO is not faring so well. When DH was working, he had several shift changes, but the one that he hated the worst was the 3rd shift. Just couldn't get the hang of it. Although he loved the 2nd shift, as he had about 1/2 day to do what he wanted.
laurie wilson, sorry that the labs didn't spot something. You know as a mom that there is probably something going on. Please pursue it.
MaryE, sounds like the rest of the week will be busy for you, just getting ready for the ride. Good luck, with getting it all rounded up, and you have everything you need when you get there. Ps, don't forget the horses!!
dmc, how in the world do you do everything you do? You make me tired just reading about it, and surprisingly unless you visit the farm forum, we would never know that you are renovating a house. Hope you find out that there is a goup who rides together, when you get the house done, and you can join the horse group.
susieq, leaflady, oz, pattischell, and any others I have missed, not ignoring you, just gotta go catch up everywhere else.
101, hope the job is going well for you, will catch you tomorrow.
I will be back later.
Good going Bal. How long did that take?
I have been promising pictures of several things, off to do that, and may get them posted tonight. If not first thing in the morning.
As I said, today was my 26th wedding anniversary. DH got me a precious card with a kitten and a puppy snuggling together. Said there wasn't a question of which card to get. LOL
We went to Chinese, that is the place we go for our anniversary and my birthday. For his birthday we go to Monterey Tex Mex LOL. I got the Ocean Delight, it has shrimp, scallops, and crab meat, along with snowpeas, thin sliced carrots, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots and all in a nice smooth sauce.
DH got Mongolian chicken which has thin strips of chicken, shredded onions, green onions and bamboo shoots in a spicier sauce. We always have a bunch left over so I'm looking forward to lunch tomorrow. Oh yeah we always have a poo poo platter which has a bunch of different things on it with a little pot in the middle that is flaming and you can put some of the things on the grill. Yummy.
Then for our next wonderful anniversary activity, we stopped at WalMart so I could get some new laundry baskets, and then DH decided we would go ahead and get dog food and I loaded up on bird suet and seed blocks. We ARE old married folks aren't we????
I did a couple of loads of laundry this morning. Our high today was 45 and it was cloudy and very windy so it felt colder than that. Must be spring.....
I am looking forward to ordering the Messenger/Mighty Plant through the new co-op. Can really save some money that way.
Gave Indy his last pills tonight. Of course it was his last pills and we have FINALLY learned what to do to give them to him. So there was no growling, spitting and he swallowed them the first try. Figures.
I gave him kisses on his head for being such a good boy. He loves me to kiss him on the head, just me nobody else. He is MY boy.
Here is a picture of Indy for your viewing pleasure. LOL

Hi All,
I have slightly skimmed the posts,,,too tired to comment on all. Just wanted to say thanks so much for the well wishes. However another bear night tonight. He told me, he just can't do it. He's going to see if there's Any way he can get on first shift. If not, he won't stay.
I was raised either you will or you won't,,,there's no such thing as you can't. That keeps playing like a tape through my mind and I feel guilty. I feel that he just hasn't given himself time to find out what works for him. I'm going to put 2 Tylenol PM on the counter and he Better take them when he gets home,,,or, within a couple of hours. Maybe that will do it.
Well, better get to bed. Good Night all,
Kelly
From me too Kelly (((((hugs)))))
My son was moved to third shift for the video editing position, they said for a couple of weeks. It turned into eight weeks and he hated every minute of it. But he hung in there and eventually got his photog position back which is days. He was going to quit and was already looking for another job, but stuck it out. Hope Bill can do that too.
Third shift is awful. I know I couldn't do it.
Susan
