Morning all - oh those tulips on the banner are pretty - how did I miss those??

I am bushed....I spent all night moving classrooms and writing and rewriting a speech I had to give (this was all in a dream) But I tell ya, it was real as real and I am exhausted...My arms even hurt from moving all the furniture LOL

Speaking of tulips, I planted some 'gregei' tulips years ago and they just keep getting better! They are a short red tulip and I have them in clumps of 5, but they have multiplied!! In front of the bed, I edged in purple muscari - what a fresh look in the spring. I think maybe I will plant some daffys in the back for more color!

LOL the snow missed us for once!! Blizzard warnings to our south! but it is freezing cold with a bitter wind chill and of course cloudiness. I'm getting out the long johns again! Prepare yourself Maria, it's coming your way!!

I used to hang my clothes out all the time. But my doc said to stop it (especially sheets) as they collect all kinds of allergens hanging outside. I guess that makes sense, but man, I love the smell of bedding that has been outside.

Defoe- I laughed about you having to get your kitty at the vets. They do make an annoying sound- going anywhere with ours is impossible. She sounds like she is about to die and her eyes get as big as saucers.

DH fussed with the garage door opener - changed the battery three times - but still nothing. He did rummage around and find me a key to open the door. I told him I'd trade - he can take the key and I'll use his opener...no takers so far! I need to go to the store and get some fresh batteries today. I can't believe it would just 'die' like that - doesn't it give you some warning...

Yum - liver and onions - I love them. Always have to have them served with mashed potatoes and dip everything in ketchup!! I thought eating liver wasn't good for you as it was a filter organ. Was I wrong? If so, let me know - I'll fix some for dinner!!

Yahoo for seed snitching Molly - just be careful. I went to an experimental gardens and did that, but when I got home I had this pile of seeds and I didn't know what was what. Ended up tossing the mess of them and have been disgusted at myself ever since.. Always carry baggies.

M5- hope your dishwasher is running again....And who was waiting at the docs office?? Well, time for some breakfast - I am starved after doing all the work last night...

Gravois Mills, MO(Zone 6a)

Sarv like I said yeasterday I bet it is age and cold related. If it is not batteries it is a transistor are switch itself. In most cases it is just better to buy a new controller. I just had to put a whole new garage door opener in a month are so ago. They get more complicated all the time. Either that are my head gets thicker all the time. Toooooo many features. My old one did the door the garage door and the yard lights on seperate buttons. Cannot make this one do that for all its features so now we got two.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Good morning !
Sarv, the cold has been here from Canada for quite a few days plus the icy wind it is chilly though the sun is shining.
I like liver and onions with some bacon and mashed potatoes too, does not bother me at all what is being said aboutit, had it all my life and as you can see I am still around :-)
I hang my wash on the line very often but mostly bedding, it does smell wonderful from the scent of pines and cedars that we have growing here in abundance.
Just now Samson has been bothering me no end because so far I have not thrown balls for him he decided to wipe out most of what i wrote, wonder how he did that with his nozzle on the keaboard. I finally gave in and went out of doors with him, was he ever happy!! Now I am back again with icy hands and shivering.
Talk about garage doors, last year we lost the electricity and could not open the door had to do it manually pulling on a robe it was almost impossible for me to find strenghs to make it work, after a 15 minute struggle I did it neede an other person to pull or helping lifting the door.
Talk about electricity since I have the generator I have not lost the lights, lol, usually about this time in the winter it goes off several times.

Defoe, looking forward to meet you and also McCool. Some one has a RU on Springfield, that is in Western MA. hope I can get there too.

Has anyone looked at those wonderful photos in the NE forum about the flowershows? Don't miss it ! you really will feel like spring is in your back yard

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Here I am, early but not bright. I missed the tulips on the banner too, must have been too eager to read the text. Don't have much time this morning, have dental appt. at 9, and some errands to run. And pick up Sammi the Eunuch this afternoon.

Bad news on the nookitty front. She finally sent a picture, and if that's a Siamese, I'll eat my hat. Plus, she is still sick...after a week and a half, and I'm not taking any chances that it's just a "cold" she looks awful. I'm not terribly disappointed, my kids are too precious to expose to some unknown virus. And there were three ads for meezers in the paper this weekend, so I'll check that out. The girls were looking for Sammi last night, but Souky was very happy to have the bed without getting pounced on.

Sarv, can you check with whoever made your garage doors? They may be able to replace the remote for you, or repair it. If we lost all our remotes, we would be paralyzed...multiple tvs, vcrs, garage doors, etc. We are at the mercy of our electronics. Oh, yeah, the dishwasher is again functional. Repair guy said if extra parts keep coming, keep them, don't call to return them because it would just confuse the system, which evidently is already screwed up!

I'm OFF, (and doubt that I will hear any arguements about that!)

Later

We've got hours to kill before Kandyce gets out of surgery so I'm popping in to say 'HI!' all.... been difficult to keep up with the coffee thread everyday but I still try - :)

Someone asked a week or so ago about if it was me working for the relay for the deaf. Yes, that is what I do. And yes, we handle many fraud calls also. So far the FCC has not done much about stopping them. It is very frustrating and demoralizing when u know it's a fraud call but u can't say anything or you'll get fired. We have list of criteria now and if we get 4 out of 5 on the list, we can call the supervisor and they will read an approved 'potential fraudulent activity' warning and the person can choose to hang up if they like. We can never hang them up ourselves. We've had the criteria list since early Dec. so of course the crooks know what's on the list almost from the first week it was implemented, and most of the time we only get 3 out of the 5 criteria so we can't warn the people. The crooks hang up and then call back with the last two criteria and don't mention the first 2 or 3 and get away with it. I also cannot believe how gullible some peeps are - remember learning ....if it sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true! But folks forget that ....

Ok, be checking in later, have a great day all!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Kooger, who is Kandyce and why is she having surgery? I guess I missed that. Anyway hope all goes well.

I have to run into town to do a few errands this morning, so will be out and about. The sleet freezing rain and snow predicted for last night just gave us a dusting. So hurrah, don't have to slide down the roads.

Sarv, sometimes dreams can be so real, that they do make you tired. The other night I dreamed I had been drafted into the army, and was being processed!

M5, glad you finally got to see a pic of the kitty, I wouldn't want to bring one in with possibility of giving your "kids" something. Good luck at the dentist.

Maria, don't dogs always find a way to make you feel guilty about not playing with them? Mr. B, just keeps bringing me one toy after another, it is almost like he is saying, do you like this one?

Oz, just read in the paper about the plane crash in Branson, really horrible, how far away from there are you?

Well, I will check in when I get back.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi there,

Must be a function of this new version of Windows. Had JUST finished commenting on all of yesterdays posts and LOST it when I tried to get another version of today's open in a new window. Have a dentist recal visits (cleaning) in 45 minutes; so more later.

Ann

Gravois Mills, MO(Zone 6a)

Defocat--- I am about 11/2 hrs from the Branson/Hollister area where that plane went down. He fly into a sterage building complex and a lot of those particular storage complexes belonged to the show people in Branson. I seen it on TV this morning. I know there were 4 people in there is all I really know.

Ann--- I have windows XP home version and never have a problem. I have a penthelon processor that I paid a optional price for. I have heard that some of the other processors can cause things to happen. What I don't know.

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Just popping in quickly. Those who have snow, KEEP IT! We may get fluries today, but nothing more in the forcast. If the weather report is right, it may actually start warming up ever so slightly by the end of the week. Hurray!

Sarv - I hate those realistic dreams. Usually when I have them, they are bad dreams and I have woken up shaking and in a panic. Haven't had one in a while thank goodness.

M5 - So sorry the little girl kitty did not work out. Hope the poor little thing get's better soon.

I love to hang out wash. I love travelling in Amish country and seeing the loooonngg clotheslines they have full of clothes. We had to take down our clothesline last year when we added the deck on the back of the house and it never got put back up. I'm hoping to get DH inspired to put a new one up in the next couple of weeks. I love the smell of clothes fresh off the line.

Gotta go for now. Will try to be back during lunch break.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Sheesh, had something written and it went poof too....

Went to huff/puff then came home and tried to print off my old address book - it was a no go. I know it can be done as years ago I did it, but for the life of me, I can't figure it out. So I wrote all the addy down in longhand and then re-entered them into my new computer. The new computer's addy book is not as user friendly as the old one. Grrr - this is all so maddening...

M5- skip that new kitty....don't want any extra bugs to get them all sick. My kitty is going thru spring break -she is out, then in, then out, then in etc etc etc. About driving me crazy...

Think I need a turkey sandwich

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning. We have a bit more snow today and more coming. Not spring here yet in spite of what the calendar says. Yesterday was more like it.

Here's a link to bring you up to speed on Kandyce and her surgery. She is Koogers son's GF as I remember. Anyhow, she is having surgery today at Mayo to remove a large tumor from her spine. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/580267/

Meezer, I had to laugh at you calling Sammi the Eunuch. Samson is one too. Maria, had you thought of that? I'm so glad he is back to his normal self. How much of the spoiling has become something he still expects? Sorry you lost a post due to his chin on the keys. I loose stuff all the time with my kitten jumping on to the keyboard. Funny little screens come up that I never see otherwise, the page scrolls up or down, things just disappear. And once in a while I actually learn something.

Oh Sarv, I hate those dreams where I work all night and wake up tired.

Whoever is having liver can have my share. I used to eat it and liked it until I read that it was the filter organ and wondered why I would want to eat the stuff that the body was trying to remove. My hubby never ate it and he doesn't describe the innards people eat in such kind terms. I can remember my mother making beefsteak and kidney pie for my stepdad, I never ate any of it after I learned what kidneys do.

Today I have a dentist appointment (crown preparation, oh what fun!) and I am world's worst coward when it comes to dental appointments. I get tied in a knot just getting them cleaned. Then there are some errands to run and I will come home and maybe take a nap, or maybe get on with the list of stuff to do before Friday.

Somebody asked what was on the list, here are a few: clean and organize my trailer, saddlesoap the leather tack, make granola (hubby's breakfast while I am gone), water everything in the greenhouse and house, fill bird feeders (Friday morning so they won't get empty over the weekend), do more laundry so hubby won't run out of underwear over the weekend, pack the trailer (horse stuff and my stuff), well, that is just a start. Basically I have to be thinking a few days ahead. And of course there is all the daily cooking, cleaning, etc. The neighbor wants me to help him move his cattle back to his place before they start having calves, I need to ride Breezy one more time and Patch too if I can work that in.

Gotta get moving, back sometime today. ~~~ to all of you that I missed (most everybody).

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

guess this european just likes liver , sweet meat and kidney pies. lol

Mary, I know Samson is now a eunuch, I think I did not want him to be one that is why I hesitated quite a bit, I am having a dentist Appt. too to have real crown replaced instead the temporary I have at the moment.

Was ready ti go to the bank taking Samson with me but the devider in the car fell over could not fix it am not clever about things like that am uoset about it :-(

Hi There,

Well, back from the dentist. I'll see what I can recall of what I wrote and lost. (Sounds like that should be a song). LOL Oz - I think it's a function of opening things in "tabs" instead of new windows. You can have several tabs open in the same window. Think I'll go back to ensuring that each different version of the thread is in its own WINDOW.

I know that I spent some time expounding about the time wasted trying to get the new computer set up. Still need to get my FTP programs working. When I called tech support for help, they wondered why I was using a program for which I will have to pay in 30 days (well 27 now). Pointed me to a free downloadable one on their web site. Trouble is I can't make hide nor hare of how it works. The other one will be worth the $30 or so in time not wasted reading or trying to read all the instructions. But I'll call tech support again later. Also expounded about the version of WordPerfect which I got and which is missing basic fonts that I use all the time. I tried to do a custom reinstall in order to install extra fonts and there don't seem to be any on the CD. So, back to the store where I got it. That's not yet resolved.

And I make the Recovery discs necessary for the new computer. The window popped up a few weeks ago but when I found it would take only 2 DVD's as aoposed to about 15 CD's, I went out to buy some. Took 'till today for that window to pop up again. I opened the package of 10 DVD's and found that 6 had broken jewel cases. Fortunately, Staples is next to my dentist. I'm happy to report that Stpales happily replaced the 6 with broken cases.

Someone asked how my Dr. app't went yesterday. She was on time and I was on my way 15 minutes after the appointment time. so short and sweet except for the drive across town. Nothing serious - have a patchy area on my scalp which has recently become larger and raised. With my strawberry blonde coloring and the knowledge that I've spent more time in the sun before I knew better, I thought it needed to be checked out. She doesn't think it serious, but has made an app't with a dermatologist just in case. That won't be until late July due to a severe shortage of dermatologists here.

Back to yesterday's thread -

dmc - touching story about the letter to your father. Glad you took the priest's advice. Your painting is wonderful. I especially enjoyed the tack trunk. Have you ever considered painting a linoleum rug for your farm house? Hope your DD recognizes that she's lucky to have family that is sufficiently concerned to contact security. And I bet she's more reliable about phoning you in the future.
I wouldn't worry about trying to do more. It boggles MY mind what you are doing at that farm house.

Sarv - about talent. At least in music, they say it's 10% God given and 90% hard work. I'd be willing to bet that applies to art as well although we've all seen people who seem to find both art and music effortless.

suzi - good luck with the step daughter.

Mary - glad the aches and pains are better.

Lauri - have you heard anything from the Dr. yet?

Sheila - hope your dentist app't went as well as mine.

defoe - your Dr. sounds like a keeper. Hope he stays like that.
Re laundry hung out, I do it if I can. Also like the smell of the clothes. Tend to put certain items in the dryer for a few minutes to ease out wrinkles and then sometimes hang them out on hangers. If you are bothered by pollen and other allergens collecting on the laundry, would running them for a few minutes on air in the dryer AFTER they've been hung out get rid of them?

leaflady - first AND second days of spring were quite chily here too. Been a long time since I've made liver and onions. Sounds good.

Susan - happy anniversary to you and DH.

OK, I've pretty much reconstructed what I lost earlier. Will send this off and catch up on today's thread a bit later.

Ann

VAnn, as another (ex) strawberry blonde, I have frequent visits with a dermatologist over the last few years. Lots of things burned off, nothing serious. However, working outside here at Molly's in FL, I have developed quite a tan and a lot of "bumps" that need checking out. I'm hoping to wait until I go back to NC in early May and see my regular dermatologist.

ps... the tulips in the new banner look like the Angelique tulips my mother grew.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi again,

Back after lunch.

I also missed the tulips at first. Sure are pretty even if it will be two months before we see any.

For those taking kittys to the vet, do you keep them in a carrier? I used to let them ride free, but they always seemed to want to sit on my lap, through the steering wheel or under my feet. Wish I still had cats to take to the vet. :-(

sarv - hope you get that garage door opener working.

Sheila - sorry about the set-backs on the new kitty. So are new presently meezerthree? I'm pretty dense, I guess. Just now made that connection.

Kooger - hope the surgery goes well for Kandyce.

sarv - sounds like you're encountering similar computer frustrations. I use Eudora for e-mail and was able to copy all the mailboxes and nicknames over onto the new computer easily, but my signatures, even though I copied them aren't working (or at least the default is different) and neither are the many filters I had to sort mail in various mailboxes.

seems like today was dentist day. Mary, crown prep is not fun. Hope yours went as well as can be. However, the last one I had, they actually molded a white plastic temp which was a lot more friendly than those old aluminum temps they used to use. I could actually forget it was there. Who else was it - Maria? who was getting her crown. What sort of temps are your dentists using?

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

That wasn't supposed to have been sent yet. But better than losing a whole post, I guess. LOL

Guess I was pretty well caught up anyway. Hi to anyone I've missed. Oh yes, Darius, I guess those dermatologists just go with the coloring. Fortunately, I've never been a real sunworshipper, but I did certainly get more than my share on a few occasions back before anybody made the connection to skin cancer.

Hope everyone has a good afternoon.

Ann

Yes liver and kidneys are filter organs. But muscles can have toxic buildup in them too. I really don't think much lives thru the cooking process anyway. I think we also need to weigh the good against the bad. Too many are willing to throw the baby out with the bath water.

Kathy, glad to see you here. Hang in there. You really need to get those BG readings down to 120 or less. But don't do it too rapidly or you will really be sick. If you can reduce it by 5-10 points a day that will be good. Right now to suddenly drop to 120 would likely be like insulin shock to your body. How often do you test your BG? I recommend at least 2X daily. Maybe even 3X if you have noon spikes. I don't know if you use insulin or pills but with BGs like that I would think you would need insulin to bring it under control. If you don't have a meter, WalMart carrys one called RelyOn(?)than is less than $10 and the strips are reasonable too. I know a couple people who use that meter and strips and really like them. All of Jack's are either thru VA or MedSource DM.

It is cold and miserable here today. There is a lot of moisture in the air and that makes it even worse. I didn't sleep well last night until after 2:30 a.m. so I'm groggy this morning as well as being achey. We got very little moisture of any kind here. I think our rain guage leaks so I can tell just how much we really have gotten. Guess I need to replace it soon. I checked it once and found the bottom plug was loose so I got it put back in solidly but it still shows no moisture at all even when there is water standing in other containers.

I need to grind more coffe beans. GOD bless and keep each of you.

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

Hi everyone!! It's sunny here and it feels great. 30 degrees, but after yesterday's icy winds, today being calm feels like real spring. The sun is also very strong, so I was comfortable working outside in shirtsleeves.

I'm glad lots of people still hang their laundry too

Getting crowns sounds miserable....Hope I can avoid that although i've heard i'm getting close!

Maria-We need a Samson picture again! It seems like it's been forever. Soon it will be mud season, that will be tough when he wants to play outside.

Ann-I agree about the 10%talent and 90%work. The talent just helps to insure you get a good result from all the work...see, that's my problem, exactly...I have to get to work!! I have thought of all sorts of fun stuff i could paint at the farm, but i can't even get in right now because the whole house is up in the air! I have to be patient, the foundation part is tricky.

I was so excited yesterday when I went up to look at the farmhouse....there were hoofprints all over!i don't know if someone's horses escaped or whether there were riders but I was sorry to have missed them, all I could think of is "company"!! I rode on a couple roads nearby and passed a big, probably50-75 horse farm with indoor arena and show rings, and at least ten backyard barnsof a couple horses each. I would say out of 30 houses altogether, (Not on our road, but within a couple miles) at least half had horses!! there are dirt roads to ride too, and maybe there would be ways to hook up trails across all the horse owner properties. I have to find out if there's a club or association for horse folk there.

mary-Good luck on the trailride, probably the hardest part is getting out the door, right?

m5-nope, you don't need a kitty with a mystery illness! I hope Sammi isn't too unhappy with you.

leaflady-HI! i haven't seen you around in awhile!

kooger-prayers for Kandyce's quick and complete recovery. Waiting is so hard.....

sarv-Can't you take today off seeing as you worked all night? LOL

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7b)

I'm finally vertical and taking in nourishment in the form of black coffee and sucking in a few oxygen molecules a little more easily. I've been struggling with asthma and allergies for the past several days and last night finally got the best of me. I was at work and a patient and her hubby came in to be seen. Both are VERY heavy smokers and I had to be with her in the OB Room while she underwent an examination. The OB Room is very small and both she and her hubby reeked of ciggy smoke and just as I finished putting in her IV and drawing her labs I started into an asthma attack to beat all asthma attacks. I used my inhaler several times, drank a cuppa coffee and ended up turning her over to another nurse to care for. I just couldn't be back in the room with her. So, I've spent the entire night since I got off work using the nebulizer machine, drinking the coffee and I took some Prednisone to give myself a burst dose. I'm sore from coughing and wheezing and I'm knackered out.

Now, that all being said, I have to give my opinion about eating organ meats. There is a word to describe such food stuffs and the word is OFFAL (pronounced awful). I believe there is some validity to the pronounciation of the word being truly a part of it's descriptor. LOL

I'm including the description from Wikipedia of Offal: Offal is the entrails and internal organs of a butchered animal. The word does not refer to a particular list of organs, but includes most internal organs other than muscles or bones. Depending on the cultural context, offal may be considered as waste material that is thrown away, or as delicacies that command a high price. Offal not used directly for human or animal food is often processed in a rendering plant, producing material that is used for animal feed, fertilizer or fuel.

Many of you know, I'm of Scots descent as my Mum was born in Braemar, Scotland, therefore my heritage is Scots and I was raised with many of the traditions. That being said, I'm including Wikipedia's description of a Scots traditional food. The traditional Scottish haggis consists of sheep stomach stuffed with a boiled mix of liver, heart, lungs, rolled oats and other ingredients. In the UK Midlands faggots are made from ground or minced pig offal (mainly liver and cheek), bread, herbs and onion wrapped in pig's caul. Steak and kidney pie (typically featuring veal or beef kidneys) is widely known and enjoyed in Britain. Brawn is the British term for "head cheese" or the collection of meat and tissue found on an animal's skull (typically a pig) that is chilled and set in gelatin.

Those descriptions being set, I have to admit I'm not overly fond of liver or kidney or any of many of the dishes prepared from offal, but I have to admit I LOVE a good Haggis and I truly enjoy deep fried chicken gizzards and upon occasion I enjoy chicken livers cooked in star anise and soya sauce. So, I suppose I pick and choose which awful offal I'll eat and it has to be prepared the way I prefer, but I'll always pass on the awful offal liver and onions, thank you very much. LOL

So, do I prefer coffee over tea? Not particularly. But coffee has xanthines in it and xanthines are what the medication "Theophylline" is made from. Theophylline is a bronchodilator and opens up the lungs so one can breathe more easily. So, I drink my coffee when I'm having the asthma, but I won't be eating any awful offal when I'm suffering with the asthma. LOL

I hope everyone has a wonderful day today. Blessings on everyone and for those facing adversity and illness, I send my best wishes to you for strength and courage to face whatever you are facing. Hugs to all, ~Babs~

Ahh, investment guy just called - since I have dial up =I had to stay off the computer until I heard from him. Man, was that hard!! Almost like a withdrawal!!

I can hear DH just walking in the door, so I will have to be quick here.

Babs, I love your descriptions of Scottish food! (grin) One of my mother's favorite foods was brains (pig) scrambled in eggs. We also loved tongue (cow) sandwiches and liver (calf) was a favorite....and then, of course, there was scrapple! LOL

Sorry about your asthma attack. My DH suffered with it all his life. It was a very scarey thing for me to witness, I can't imagine having a child go through it.

Hi All,

Hate it that life gets in the way of my puter time,,,but whadya gonna do? Won't even pretend to know how everyone is doing or what's going on with all,,,just haven't been able to be on enough to even skim through the posts.

Bill started the new job Sunday night at 11:00 p.m. He tried to lay down about 6 and couldn't get to sleep, so he got up for awhile and went back to bed at 8. Asked me to wake him up at 10 p.m.. OMG,,,what a Bear. Yesterday he got home about 7:45, tried to stay up for awhile and went to bed at 10 a.m.,,told me not to let him sleep all day,,wake him up at noon. Well, like a Fool, I listened to him and woke him at noon. He said he felt better.

He stayed up for awhile then decided to lay on the couch. After about an hours nap, he went upstairs around 5p.m. and asked me to wake him at 10 p.m. Woke him at 10,,,he was slightly less of a bear, but still a major grump. Told me he'd give it a week and if he couldn't handle the shift he was done.

Today he went to bed around 9 a.m. and I just heard him get up,,,I hope he's going to go right back to bed. I wish he could sleep until about 5 or 6.

Well, gotta go, bbl

Here's a paste from the ependy thread -
Kandyce is out of surgery, has good leg response and is into the recovery room. The NS (neurosurgeon) said that it was an ependymoma, not the schwanoma(sp?), which was the better choice of the two. The schw. is benign, and requires a follow up MRI in 3 months, and other in a year and it's a done deal.

The ependy is considered semi-benign, probably not malignant. It does like to regrow elsewhere in the spinal canal(cord) or in the cerebrum. Both areas have the same type of cells. So yearly MRIs will be required for quite some time. He did say no radiation will be required at this time as he got it all with no leakage. He also did not have to take tissue from the back of her upper thigh for a patch.

So it is wonderful news with just a little 'but......' :) Praise the Lord!!

Not much going on here.... feels lonesome without Molly, Jeremy, 2 dogs and 3 birds. Have had some much needed rain today but lots of strong winds with it. House is still standing!

On old DG member, Carol7, is coming tomorrow for a couple of days to do some wholesale plant shopping for the greenhouse business she & her DH have started in VA. I'm planning on a big pyrex dish of homemade mac & cheese. Haven't had that in ages. Might just do the Sopapilla Cheesecake for dessert!

Good news Kooger, thanks for the update, still prayers for a quick and complete recovery for Kandyce. (((((((HUGS))))))))to you too, you were the one who had to stay conscious and unsedated!

Kelly!! Good to see you, don't feel pressured to keep up. Glad you stopped in. I hope Bill adjusts, it has to take time to completey turn your bio clock around.

Still no word from Lauri on how her DS is doing?

Question... When I was a kid, we made popcorn in an old iron skillet, and then added butter. Mother is dead, cannot ask her how much butter nor how we added it.

Microwave popcorn doesn't cut it. Any suggestions?

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

We used to melt the butter separately and toss the popcorn with a drizzle of butter and then salt if desired or parmesan cheese (or herbs I guess, too). No set amount....it does make it greasier than the faux stuff!

HOW much butter???

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Kooger - Glad the surgery went well. Hope she has a speedy recovery.

To those who had dentis appointments - Better you than me LOL. I am not at all fond of visiting the dentist.

Babs - Glad your feeling better!

Patti - I love scrapple. My grandfather used to help butcher hogs. He called scrapple "hog hair and cornmeal". I'm still not sure what is in it and probably don't want to know.

Kelly - ~~~~Hi! waving at ya!

We used to make popcorn on the stovetop with just a tiny bit of oil so it wouldn't stick and then put butter on. I think how much just depends on your taste.

Almost time to go home. Gotta clean up the mess on my desk. At least this one doesn''t get piled as high as the desk at home. Have a good evening all!

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

darius - I still make popcorn that way sometimes. But the best of all is bacon grease. I put enough in the pan to cover the bottom when it's melted, maybe 1/8th in. deep. Then add the popcorn seeds in a single layer to fill the bottom of the pan. I usually use a 3 or 4 qt pan with a heavy bottom (Farberware, but not the newer ones, they're much thinner). When u start hearing the first pop, shake the pan back and forth until they are done popping, etc. Sometimes I get a few too many seeds in and have to dump off the top into a bowl quickly and get it back on the burner and keep sliding it back and forth. Butter is yummy too but keep shakin' they'll burn faster than bacon grease... and ENJOY!

Back from grocery shopping, had to go to the big city for the 'real' salmon am going to have for tomorrow night when D & H are coming. Before that I had two permanent crowns replacing the temp. kind.

Ann, the temp ones are or were plastic, had no problems with anything, it just is time consuming.

dmc. nothing to it to get crowns, first they make an impression, then file down the tooth, put on a temp. after a few weeks you get the permanent ones, at least that is how my dentist did it.

Darius, I sent you an email, hope you got it? Nice for you to have company

Babs, so sorry about your allergies, how awful, now that hurts! Just take care of yourself

Waving to everybody else !!!!Perhaps I'll see you later, oh yes, chat room is on tonight

Well, I'm so far behind with my DG posts that I *forgot* to watch this thread! LOL I thought y'all were being "OFFAL" quiet! *grin*

Babs, you just crack me up. :) Oh, need to talk to you, so watch you Dmail, please? so glad you're feeling better.

Hi Darius. Sorry you're lonely. Am waving ~~~

Kooger am so glad to hear the good news about Candice. Have had her in my thoughts and prayers. :) Will continue praying for a quick recovery.

Maria, so glad Samson is feeling more like himself now. Tell him he needs to take typeing lessons, though, before he tries to post! LOL LOL

Meezers, give poor Sammy a pat for me. Poor guy. :-( They don't put halos on kitty cats, do they? Glad you found out about the little girl before you brought her home. Don't want anything to happen to "our" Sammy!

My goodness, first it was plumbing problems for us ... then the pets ... and now it's teeth! What's next? hehehe

Mary, sounds like you're going to be having quite a ride! Sounds like a *lot* of work, first, though. LOL Have a good time, and good luck! :)

OZ, hope you don't mind ... but I am saving part of your post above for my DH

Quoted
"I bet it is age and cold related."

That just looks like it might come in handy somewhere along the line to me. *smile* LOL

Hi Suzie. So sorry to hear you're having family problems again. Don't worry ... we'll send the 2X4 over if things get too rough!

Well, the DH just called so I'll have to just say hi to ya Kelly, DMC, Pati, Sarv, McCool, Lauriwilson, Defoe, Susan and all those I haven't mentioned by name. Just know I'm trying *very* hard to get caught up. Will try to check back later.

Darius - get on here more, we'll keep you company!! We used to make popcorn on the stove using oil in the bottom of the pan, then melted butter on the corn when it was all done. Yum, sounds good! I'll be over the mac and cheese (I like the top black tho)

Maria, I wish I felt the same way you do about the crowns. I have to take a xanax to get thru it. But then, I absolutely hate going to the dentist. He told me I have a control problem. Just being tipped so far back in the chair about sends me thru the roof. I am a wreck before going- don't sleep, upset stomach etc. A real wimp...

Kooger- hoorah for the good turn out on the surgery....

GG - hopefully the night job will get better for Bill. I imagine it throws your body into a tailspin for awhile.

DH came home from work in a tizzy. He got into a shouting match with his brother (the wacky one) I wish he wouldn't tell me - it upsets me so. I only listen because I think he needs to vent. Just after he told me I got a call from MIL asking me to take her to the doc again. I'll hear the story over from her...grrrr Of course she will say that DH was at fault.

They are saying 'more winter' here by the end of the week- someone help us here in Mich!

I did plant a ton of seeds today -maybe that will help.

Everyone make sure they get to chat tonight

I DO remember putting corn oil in the bottom of the iron skillet, and a lid and shaking... just don't remember how we added the butter (melted?) nor how much. CRS.

I'm sure I must have posted this before... but CRS sets in

Quoting:
Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder

Recently, I was diagnosed with A. A. A. D D. - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.

This is how it manifests itself:

I decide to water my garden.
As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing

As I start toward the garage, I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.
I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first.
But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my checkbook off the table, and see that there is only 1 check left.

My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke I'd been drinking.

I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over.

The Coke is getting warm, and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need water.

I put the Coke on the counter and discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.

I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor. So, I set the remote back on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill.

Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.
At the end of the day:
- The car isn't washed
- The bills aren't paid
- There is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter
- The flowers don't have enough water,
- There is still only 1 check in my check book,
- I can't find the remote,
- I can't find my glasses,
- And I don't remember what I did with the car keys.

Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day, and I'm really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it but first I'll check my e-mail.

Please, don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming AAADD

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Well, if u really want it to be yummy -- u just sit down with the butter bowl, room temp, not cold, and then u dip in ur piece of popcorn and stick it to another piece of popcorn. Grab another popcorn, dip in butter, add to first pieces, etc. and then u and whoever ur sharing ur popcorn with has a contest on how high u can make ur popcorn tower! (does it sound like we did this as kids? LOL)
