I know...I couldn't help myself...and then I just had to go and click on the pic link!!!!

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

There is no way I can compete with Rick Swanner.
Does he do snakes?
Andy P

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I don't know - I haven't come across any - why don't you send him a d-mail. I would, but then I'd be afraid he'd send me one!!!! {lol}. You know, I have to laugh...last spring a snake decided to hang out in the space below my back door jamb. Well, I was coming out - in my bare feet - to have coffee on the patio. I was coming out just as he was coming out. We both jumped back into our prospective homes - I don't know who was more frightened!!!

West Warwick, RI(Zone 6b)

LOL! Anita, I would have loved to have been there when that encounter happened, I would have fallen over, laughing. HEE HEE!

I'll have to come by your house this summer to do some snake pettin Andy.

I have one in my garden who follows me when I weed, I think he eats the bugs I scare up. Its funny he isn't scared of me, I'm sure he has been captured and released a few times, so my kids could get a look at him, yet every year he follows me around, I have to becareful not to step on him he follows so close some times.

Anita, I would have liked to see that too.
I used to have a large plastic snake to scare off the birds from the strawberries. Every time a neighbor came by, he jumped too, lol.

The worst was when it was in my house!! I went down to iron a pair of pants for work and realized I needed the light on. So I went back over to the basement door where the switch was, turned the light on and went back to the ironing board. I must have stepped over the snake several times never seeing it. Again...I was barefoot.... He was sunning in the little bit of sun that was coming through the curtain to the floor. I noticed it out of the corner of my eye and nearly fainted. My chest actually hurt from the scare of seeing it in my house!!! I don't remember how I got it to move far enough from my path to freedom - I was trapped in the back corner of my basement. When it did, I made a beeline for the outside to try and find anyone to help me. Of course, no-one was around!!! Luckily, my neighbor was having siding put up and I begged one of the workers to come and get it.

Andy---I'd kill ya if you did that to me!!!!

West Warwick, RI(Zone 6b)

yeah, I didn't want people assuming Andy lived in a hose.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

actually - I'm guilty of the fake snake trick....we were vacationing in the Outer Banks. We had rented a house on the beach and I had just come back from shopping with my cousing. I bought my nieces those fake wooden snakes...very realistic. Anyway, I put it on the landing of the first floor and called Samantha over - and said, "Look!!! A snake!!!" Needless to say, Sammy feels the same about snakes as I do!

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Anita, I accidentally ran over the fake snake with the lawn mower, it's gone now.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

and do the other snakes watch you intently now?

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

No, they just stick their tung out at me.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

LOL

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Hey Anita,
I don't remember all the rules. That person that I did the plan for is not a subscriber - what access limitations do they have. I thought I once heard about only seeing the beginning of a thread or something if you are only a member?

Andy - I have Junebearing and Everbearing strawberries in a bed. Talk about your runners!

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Al, I'm getting rid of most of my supposed ever-bearers "Evered" this year. They turned out to be June bearers. Last year I was spending almost an hour a day picking 2 or more gallons. I like my Day Neutral "Tristars" better. Smaller berries but I have fresh berries all Summer. New plants expected shortly.Less mildew too.
Or was that a referral to Anita running away from the snake?
Andy P

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

My ever bearing were slow after June anyway - was expecting a late summer flush , but nothing. June bearing had larger berrries that I liked. Probably would have to give these away to get any newer varieties. Those squareills and chipmunks nibble on them alot.

Anita did you get the snakes I sent you yet?

Dena - any sun pics yet?

West Warwick, RI(Zone 6b)

sorry Al, I'm going to have to get outside before it gets dark one of these days and prove to you that the sun shines at my "hose" every now and again.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

yes you will
**using mental powers**

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Al, Can you name the 'Everbearers'? I tried "Ozarks" with poor results.
I've ordered "Tristars" 3 times.
The first time they were what was advertised.
The second were miss-labeled Giant, flavorless June bearers.
I'm trying a new supplier this year.
Andy P

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Ok Andy - I saw that!! Jist you wait!!! From a safe distance, I am informing all snakes in your locale that you run their brethren over with the lawn mower!!

Al - you had better not be sending me any snakes - - yuck!

I had strawberries for a period of time and they were all over the place. The produced tons of fruit that kept my critter population very content and well fed!! If I wanted strawberries, I had to go buy them!

West Warwick, RI(Zone 6b)

I recieved Strawberries as a gift, (don't know what kind they are) they came in a hanging basket planter. I was to take them out and plant them, but I forgot to. I had tons and tona of strawberries off these few plants, and the only thing that got them were the birds. I should have covered them with a net, but that didn't occure to me till I realized I forgot to plant them.
They are still hanging in the two pots they came in. Wonder if they will do as good this year if left to thier own devises?

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

GREN, Find a spot and plant them in the ground. Before they wake up.
If they survived the winter in that container they will respond to a good new home.
Use the net, I do.
Andy P

West Warwick, RI(Zone 6b)

Andy, I looked at them today, they have tiny green leaves, they are waking up...to late?

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Not too late, don't hesitate.
Hey, that rhymes....

West Warwick, RI(Zone 6b)

Andy I'll get on that tomorrow.
I haven't ever grown strawberries, or any other berries for that matter. I guess I'm just berry dumb!

Thanks for the advice! Berry smart guy!

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

GREN, here is how.

Thanks Andy!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Andy,
my SB didn't have any more specific names than what I gave you. They really are cheap as a late season pickup. I have not mail ordered any yet.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Dena, if you have luck with the strawberries actually making it to the table - let me know and you can ship me some too!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Geez - you guys fell alseep and left all the lights and tv on last night.

I'll put the coffee on for you.

West Warwick, RI(Zone 6b)

you have no idea how truethful that statement is Al.

Brimfield, MA(Zone 5a)

It's snowing here. grrrrrr

West Warwick, RI(Zone 6b)

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Hey Meagan - you know my Walmart almost has dahlias in it now - canna, glads, etc. I know you don't believe me so I had to tell you.

I believe you Al, did you see the raspberry, grapes and pussywillow bushes too? The prices were better at Home Depot though. I tried their blackberries last year and failed miserably. Gonna try again.

If the snow ever goes away...

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

jeez Al -clean those windows!!! I bet it was nice and warm in that window...I used to love lying on the bed with my cats when the sun was shining on it. Nice and warm.....

I've been running around all morning. I did the check of the back yard this morning to see what's popping....tons of bulbs are on the verge or budding. I also have a Helleborus that is in bud. Since it's my first one, I'm very excited about it.

My friend is making corned beef and cabbage tonight - yummm!! Then we are going to the movies.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Hey those windows get washed once a year.

You have a friend - way to go!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

yes - I pay her quarterly

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

you would have to pay ME dollarly
