Morning everyone - Gosh, I can tell that spring is coming because the skies are getting lighter out earlier and the sun goes down later. ahhhhh how nice.

defoe - the contrary DIL is the one in the wedding dress - she married the contrary DS, so they are a perfect match LOL I am sure they have fireworks often!! You sure you don't want DH and his barn? The barn is a godsend. It has three floors - crammed full to the brim. On the second level, DH built himself a room with a recliner, phone, radio and tv. His lower level has a room with all his tools/workbench and a tv. It is so crammed with junk that I can hardly stand to be out there, but it is his heaven. I'll have to post a pic of my greenhouse -my little piece of heaven.

I tossed and turned last night thinking about the new computer and did I really need it. Someone pass the 2/4 - I need to whack myself....

Today I need to do grocery shopping. DGS called last night and asked if he could spend the day here on Friday - winter break for him. He said he wanted to come over, but DIDN"T want to go shopping anywhere.

I had some more seeds sprout yesterday. Isn't it funny how something so simple brings me such joy. Think I'll plant some more today.

Gosh, I don't really put myself down do I? I have so many faults - and I never try hide them - what for? I'm human.

Time for breakfast- I might even have something normal today like an egg. LOL

Hi Woofy!!!! Glad to "see" you again. Lot's going on in this thread.....even a lurker has trouble keeping up....but I do!!

Hi Pati! I could never keep up on this thread as a lurker Glad to see you too :)

We built a garage almost as big as that bard next doot last year Sarv. Was helping a young fella. I tell you there is nothing they do not know. And mistakes were meant to be that way. He blew 42k on something he should have bee able to build for about 20-25K.

Glad you got your pictures going.

Yeah my garage is kind of my hangout also at times. But I do keep it clean. I got a lot of woodworking tools in there and a few years ago A woodshop somewhere in this area exploded from sawdust.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Good morning everyone,

Just a few minutes before I head out to aquafit class.

Took a look at Olympics this morning. The bronze medal curling game is underway with Canada leading Norway at this time. Keeping my fingers crossed as the Canadian rink has not always played its best this time.

Didn't do anything useful last evening except crochet while watching Olympics. I should be able to FINISH the afghan this evening as I'm on the final round of single crochet on the edge. But I have bells tonight. May set the VCR to get it all on tape for me - especially ladies' figure skating. Was amazed to find that Canada and the US were tied for medals at the end of yesterday. But the hand-wringing continues about the men's hockey loss.

Sue, You DO need the new computer! Lots of software out there that won't run on old ones. Let's see a pic of that greenhouse.

I'll have to go back and review the messages from yesterday a bit later and will try to respond to all then.

defoe - hope the transfer of your MIL goes well.

Have a good day everyone.

Ann

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Sarv, STOP!! An egg??? What are you thinking? For breakfast? Get some pizza or something healthy for goodness sake!!

I shouldn't even be on here, Sammi has his distemper shot at 8:00. Think I'll postpone the shower and hair until later as I have a dinner meeting tonight. No point getting all spiffy for a vet.

Keyi, I'm so sorry Ranger is having a tough time with the chemo. It's so hard to watch them suffer. My heart goes out to you, and your sweet guy. Be strong and do what you need to do for him as he goes through this ordeal. Give him our love.

Would love to see pictures of the sugars, since I'm never going to have one! I've seen them in pet stores but they were mostly snoozing so werent being vocal. When I was a child I wanted a monkey! My parents weren't financially able to do it, (ha! good excuse!) but since my little half brother looked just like one, it worked out ok. My, how my sister and I tortured him....we would have been good to a monkey.

Sammi's on a roll this morning, giving Mini her daily aerobics. I swear she is getting thinner from all this running away and jumping around. Most exercise she's had in years. He can be so sweet when he wants attention or to be picked up, licks your nose, and looks adorable. Then he hits the toy box, grabs something to play with and goes into overdrive!

Glad to see you back, Woofens. You've been missed...and very busy I assume. Glad to see the sky lightening up in the morning too, the days are getting longer. I hate driving in the dark so this is good news. I'm ok if I'm in familiar territory but looking for a new location at night is a hopeless enterprise.

So far, taking the anti inflammatories twice a day hasn't helped my shoulder one bit. So much for that expensive MRI, and the dr. visits.

Gotta get moving BBL.

Back to work and it will be a relief! I have had to attend more meetings this month than ever before! I can't seem to stay away from my involvements in historic endeavers. We have a Joint Historic Preservation Commission which designates local structures, a historical society which basically runs a house/museum, I am the chairwoman of the archives (which will soon go away because the archives is merging with the new library), and the chair of the advisory committee to the Heritage Coalition whose main objective is to found a county museum. Geez!
Then on top of that, I was just elected as the chairwoman of our local precinct. Held a meeting Tuesday, got some money, elected 2 delegates to the county convention, and read a bunch of stuff from the governor and the head of the party. We made a quorum so we are now officially "organized," lol.
Even though I have cut back to 1/2 days at work and off Wednesdays, I spend 2 afternoons a week working in archives. Now I have to find more time for gardening.
But my biggest hope and desire is that I will be hired to work in the new library and finish my working career there, taking care of my baby (archives collections) until I am sure the care and feeding is in place. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Morning all
Yes, it's *really* me. I don't usually have my heart started this early but feel a bit yucky today. It could be sinuses as I was outside trimming and scratching around in the dirt. I am like the birds hanging around here. I *can* hardly wait until spring!

Sarve, know just how you feel about seeing your little seeds sprout. My tomato babies have *finally* got another set of leaves. whoohoo!!! They are still so tiny. It's hard to believe that they will have tomatoes on them come summer. (please please please)

Hi Pati ... waving at you way down there!

Janis, yes, I missed you and had wondered how the kids were doing. You too were feeling pretty bum around Christmas. Sure hope things are better for you now. Great to see you back.

Defoe, it's so wonderful to see that your DMIL will be able to go to the Rehab facility today. Hope all goes well for her this time around. Please know she continues to be in my thoughts and prayers.

Susan, what can I say ... except that I'm very tender hearted, also. When I read a variety of things here at DG I will be sitting here crying. Things about peoples pets, prayer concerns, or maybe a beautiful story they've told. I'll cry at the drop of a hat. :)

Oh heck, Sarv ... forgot to say congrats on the new computer and glad you were able to post your pics.

Well, I'll just have to wave to everyone else. There's no way to respond to everyone anymore as our little group has certainly grown. :) Have more I want to do outside again today, but will try to check in later.
Hugs all way round.

M5- fell off the good eating wagon - had tuna noodle casserole and a cookie...LOL Some things just never change! Well, I gotta turn this thing off and get some work done around the house. How can I just sit here for hours.....

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

good morning, I think I must be considered a lurker also, can't keep up with you guys
Sarv, do not toss and turn you will be wondering why you did once you get the new computer, you will love it and be wondering why you waited so long to buy one.

As for btreakfast here is something for every one it is called Ebleskiver made in a ebleskiver pan and is serve it with maple syrup and sifted confectioner sugar

Please please please adopt me!!! And tell me how you stay soooo tiny eating like that! LOL Maybe you could rent out Samson. It must be cause you run after him all the time. Kota is old and lazy. :) Now that her Daddy can drive, we don't walk like we use to. We are soooo bad. Walked for 30 years and are enjoying the truck. :)

Tuna noodle and MORE cookies sounds like it would be better balanced, and I envy your DH's barn (and the acres too)
Still wet, but not freezing. Landscape Designer due at 3:00, kids to Vet for weigh in and drop off stool sample, off to Clinic soon for a fasting blood draw then to the UPS store to pick up the scale drawing of the backyard for the designer. I hate those blood draws, especially the fasting ones. Sometime or other the veins went into hiding.
Sad morning. Immy has been getting into fights with Tinker, usually after eating, but this morning she attacked Tink as soon as they hit the back porch, then twice in the house. Now the two of them are as friendly as can be. Hope the Vet has 'a solution because I can't keep her if this continues. Wish I knew something about Dog Psychology.
The Jumbles' from ggmother's 1885 Kentucky cookbook were a flop and baking the rest of the dough in a loaf pan wasn't much better. But you never know if you don't try.

Maria - please post that recipe! I would love to make some in my cast iron pan! All this time I thought it was spelled starting with an "a". I just love learning something new every day.

I found this pan at an antique shop and sprung a whole $4.00 for it!

In for a quick check before heading to the post office and the grocery. Sammi got his shots and vet said he can go in a couple of weeks from now for his altering. I won't breed him not only because I have a hard time giving up the kittens (Snicket's recent litter reminded me of that difficulty) but because one of his litter mates had deformed front legs and Sammi has a slight "cllicking" in his hips which is not a major problem but could result in arthritis when he gets older. Not a good candidate for fatherhood in my opinion.

Bal, have you asked them to use a "butterfly" needle when they take blood. They always have trouble with finding where my veins are hiding and I hate getting poked around when they can't get in. The butterfly needle is smaller and more accurate and it works well for me. Ask them about it. Mostly I hate missing breakfast for a fasting draw.

Maria, those look delicious, are they made like pancakes or baked? I would like to try them...

OK, on the road again....

Maria, Have been making aebelskivers for many years and love them. Tried putting the bit of apple in the center several times but never could get it right. We just dip them in granulated sugar with a bit of cinnamon, but the maple syrup sounds really good. Not many people seem to know about them which is too bad. That plate looks scrumptious.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Bal - landscape designer?? What in the world are you doing? Vet told us that one dog has to be dominant - maybe they are trying to see which one is the king. Hope things work out for the two of them.

Yum Maria, wish you were my next door neighbor!! Everytime I bake, I tend to eat way more than I should. DH isn't a sweet eater. He od's on grape and tomato juice (isn't that funny!!) Drinks a quart every other day.

tg- love that pan....I'm a sucker for antiques. Looking for a fostoria americanna butter dish - can't seem to locate one!

Is a fasting blood draw where you can't eat from midnight on? I have a huge vein on my left arm - never had any trouble getting a needle into it.

Need to clean off the counter - started a bunch of seeds and it is a mess!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

I do not put an apple slices in there either, Robert, they only would be raw since it does not take very long to cook them

Tgif, will send you a D-mail later

I ate a ew this morning, Elaine, there goes my weight, up and up lol

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning. AmandaPanda is sleeping on my lap so it is safe to type, at least for the moment. Last night I was trying to type (home between lamb shifts) and she was horrible. I finally put her in the bathroom for a time out. Bathroom is home base for the kitty, has litter box, food, water, sleeping box.

The sheep are off strike now, two ewes had new lambs on my shift last night and about 5 had lambs yesterday, but the barn is not full since they gave us a couple of days to get it emptied out. The ewe that lost her lambs and recieved a replacement lamb is out of the stancion pen and into larger quarters by herself and is very protective of her new baby. She stomped her front foot at me every time I walked past the pen last night. Another one was just doing so much stomping her back feet and kicking at the lamb every time it tried to nurse. That's all they can do with their head in a stancion, but after a certain amount of time we could tell that transplant wasn't working and the poor lamb was needing a better momma, so the lamb was sold as a bottle baby to a neighbor and the ewe has been turned out with the flock with a chalk mark on her back so we know that she has no lamb. Another ewe that has lots of milk got a triplet to go with her single lamb, that one appears to be working but we won't really know for a couple more days. Most ewes can do a great job of feeding two lambs, 3 is too many, one not enough so we try to get 2 lambs on any ewe that can feed them. So far the ladies have produced 4 sets of triplets, a whole bunch of twins and some huge single lambs, one of them yesterday and one last night. I should have weighed my monster, the other was 17 pounds I believe. Ouch.

Tgif, Robert and Maria, I have seen those pans and didn't know what they were for, and my German friend talked about ebelskivers but I never made the connection until I saw both pictures.

Robert, I suspect that your dogs are just going through a dominance adjustment phase. Tinker has been the boss, now Immy is saying she wants to be and Tinker isn't willing to give up her position yet. It's difficult.

Sarv, at least the thought about an egg for breakfast was in your mind until the tuna casserole took over. You get half a smiley face for trying. You'll love having a new computer. When we replaced our antique 3 years ago and we couldn't believe the difference. They get old and tired but being interconnected to a rapidly advancing network they are almost outdated before they come on the market. New games, etc, all the time. We don't have most of that stuff but could if we wanted it. Our old one had become so cranky that we had to reboot it about every 6 hours just to get it to download mail, or open a new program. We are pretty new to computers and didn't realize how antiquated it was (recieved it used, somebody else upgraded) until a friend who was visiting tried to use it for some work she needed to do.

Janis, it's nice to have you back. Catching up is hard to do, well, if you have missed more than a day or two it might not be possible at all for anybody who has a life.

Dcat's MIL going to the rehab facility, good news indeed. I'll keep her in my prayers.

Yesterday't thrift store bargain was books for my hubby, 3 nice hardback spy mysteries for 38 cents each. And I found a wiffle ball for the kitten, it is about hardball (baseball) size but too big to go under most of the furniture and get lost. All the holes in it give it some interesting looking movement when it rolls and it is so light that just a tap gets it in motion. I discovered how noisy it is last night when I kicked it while quietly navigating in the dark towards the bedroom on my way back to bed for the 2nd half of my night. We have mostly hard floors. Sweepable, practical for a farm.

Woodspirit, it's nice to have you checking in again. I agree that the new library should hire you, it seems to be a very natural progression. When will you know about that?

Got to get dressed, feed the horses, tidy the house, and go for a ride. The sky looks like it could drop some moisture on us, I hope it doesn't while I need to be outside.

After several interruptions I am finally going to post this.

Have a great day everyone, count your blessings.

Gravois Mills, MO(Zone 6a)

Bal they can be broken of fighting. My daughter has 3 cats and 3 dogs and she can make them all get along. I assume they are both female right???? If not then the female is just pushing her luck. I agree with Sarv it is a domination thing. If one has lived there longest and the other is new dog you can bet it is the new dog trying to take over. They will get it rught in time.

Landscaper!!! Hey the fun of gardening to me is to create it myself. Will be the only way you really get the feel of it. That includes aches, pains bump, bruises, bites, cuts, crud on you and sunburn.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Another quick trip to the computer in between errands....Caught Sammi about to play shoeboarding again, so here's your fix for the day. Doesn't slide as well on carpet as on the wood floor.......

Hi, Everyone. Having a late lunch today. Been a hectic first half of the day.

Defoe - Glad to hear that MIL will be moved to rehab. Keep us posted. Will keep her in prayers.

Woodspirit - If I worked in a library, nothing would get done. I would spend too much time looking through the books. LOL DH cringes when I see a pile of books at a yardsale. I think I have books in every room of our house. Just wish I had more time to read them.

Maria - You make the best goodies.

Bal - I think your dogs just need to work out who is Alpha. If their fighting gets to intense you can try breaking it up with a spray of water.

To those I didn't address, hope you all have a wonderful afternoon.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7b)

GM, everyone!

I'm finally able to get to the computer this morning after a few other chores were done or at least in the "actively being done stage", i.e. washer and dryer running. I built a fire in the Lopi stove in anticipation of the colder temps that are coming in and the possibility of snow. It's not that we have a lot of snow here usually, but when we get any, some silly person usually bounces off a power pole somewhere and knocks out our power, so I'd rather have the house prewarmed with the stove so I don't have to play catch up later.

I have to say, I'm amazed every time I log on here to see what things people are up to. It's quite refreshing to see and read about all the goings on in people's lives. Everyone here has something amazing they do in their lives and sharing it with others is just so wonderful. In today's society of keeping to ones self and not allowing anyone in from the outside, it's nice to have this *virtual family* of sorts.

Defoe: I can't fault you a bit for the spit joke. I sort of say something like that quite often, as in, "I'm so darned mad if I could spit, I would!" And to think I was the cricket spitting champion of the American Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand. What ever happened to all that? I won the cricket spitting contest by spitting a cricket 17 feet!

M5: Those drapes are magnificent!!! You have quite the talent there lady. I'd give anything to be able to sew like that. What a blessing that is.

Sarv: I'm so happy you bought a new 'puter. Once you get it and it's all set up, you'll be glad you turned the money loose too. When one is struggling with an antiquated system, one doesn't realize there is another world out there until they get a chance to play with a Cadillac instead of a Studebaker.

VAnn: You are an amazing lady. You're busy all the time, coming and going. I get tired just trying to read what you've done in a day much less ever even attempt to keep up with the pace you set. I admire your strength and your commitment to others.

Maria: I see Samson as a blessing in your life. He's such a sweetheart and I'm grateful he's found a wonderful human upon which to heap his love and trust. You'll never regret giving him your love and affections as he's so deserving of them. And your baking, oy vey! You make the most luscious desserts. Now there's a real talent! Thank you for sharing them with us.

9KM: I'm sorry for your hubby to have to cull out the herd of snail babies. It's so much better that way. Just think of all the work you've saved the Mama Snail. She won't have to lay over on her shell and suckle those 30 or so babies. Poor thing, she'd be worn out in a hurry! LOL. It's okay dear, it will be fine and your Karma rating still remains high.

BR74: I'm so sorry for your hand injury. I hope you get everything straightened out so you get the OT you need. I know what working with L & I can be like with an on-the-job injury. It can be the proverbial *slower than molasses in January* story.

MaryE: You make my heart sing with your stories of lambing season. I know you are working hard and going without sleep and proper rest. Many blessings on you for all your hard work. I've helped with lambing in the past, but it's been many years. I have very good friends in Bend, OR who have a quarter horse ranch (raise working cowboy horses) who had sheep for their children's 4-H projects. I helped them one year with the lambing and I learned how labour intensive (every pun intended) farm/ranch life can be.

Well, it's time I switch over loads of laundry. I hope everyone has a wonderful day today. I'll try to get back once-in-awhile if I can. I'm not slated to go anywhere today, but one never knows. Hugs to all!!!! With care, ~Babs~

Thought for the day:
As income tax time approaches, did you ever notice:
When you put the two words "The" and "IRS" together it spells "THEIRS"?

I'm sorry, I just couldn't help myself.....LOL! With care, ~Babs~

LOL LOL Babs!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

well. it is, is it not, Babs?

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

oh good one Babs!!

I just got back from the store and library. Decided to get a consumers report for DH to read and they won't let anyone check them out any longer - too many were stolen...also can't check out Taste of Home. Librarian said all the recipes were ripped out! LOL man, have times changed!!

It snowed so hard here this afternoon that I couldn't see the barn. After about three hours, the sun came out and now it is all melting away. Crazy weather.

Babs- we have a Lopi stove too. Ours is an insert in our fireplace - we don't use it often. We have a freestanding woodstove in the area where we are the most- that thing never cools off!! I remember once time DH built a huge fire in the Lopi and the glass front shattered...he learned a lesson when that happened!

Mary, I get such a chuckle reading about your lambs. What does a ewe do when she has three babies- are there enough feeding stations for them all?

Well, DH put away all the groceries that needed refrigeration, so I better tackle the canned goods etc.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Just a quick note before AP gets too active to let my fingers wiggle typing!

Sarv, a sheep just has two fawcetts and the udder is divided in two but looks like one unit. They are perfectly designed to feed twins. When they get out into the field and the lambs are a few weeks old the ewe will call them and they both come running and arrive at the ewe's sides a fraction of a second apart. They drink all the available milk in less than a minute about every hour. So, perfect for twins, but a third lamb gets shoved out. I have always wondered about why a cow has four fawcetts (teats) and seldom has more than one baby, and the sheep and goats have two and often have triplets. One of life's little mysteries.

The weather looks better than it did this morning. Away I go to ride for a couple of hours.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Seems I cannot skip to new, does anyone have the same prob;em?
