Good job Susan!
Since I didn't post last night I'll try to catch up today. Might be a little difficult, Sammi's commandeered my lap, since we left him all aloooone (not) yesterday, he's glued himself to me. Yesterday when I walked into the bedroom, I flipped the wrong switch on the wall and turned on the ceililng fan. When I turned if off, the pull was swinging and he tried mightily to catch it! Went for the camera, of course.
I'm not even going to try to address everyone individually, but am hoping that all the ailing feel better today. Winter colds are just plain awful and you deserve better .
Oz, your fishing stories were so funny. I don't fish, but I do appreciate my BIL's donation of a few walleye. Are there warnings about mercury levels in your area? We hear it from our DNR all the time, but it hasn't seemed to slow down the fishermen, at all.
We had sunshine for a while in Madison, but coming home we left it behind us, and had snow flurries for the rest of the day although not much accumulation. Today I'm driving with a friend to pick up a siamese that is waiting for her at a rescue home. Her boy is the same age as Oskar was, and she thought it would be good to get a companion for him (and her) and found a five year old sealpoint needing a home. She and my daughter were best friends in school, but they have drifted apart some, but she still keeps in touch with me. I enjoy her company so we get together for lunch or breakfast, occasionally.
Molly I hope you get your fencing done, it's miserable working in the rain. Good for all your new plantings though!
Mary, a lot of our neighbors have horses, and I often wonder about the expense of keeping them. Our neighbor just below us on the street to the west had two that he sold last year. I miss seeing them come out in the morning, they were always to happy to be out of the stable and would race around the paddock, playing and talking to each other. Next door to him is another property and I see about 8-10 older horses there, but that neighbor lives farther down the other road and I don't see him at all. I think he might be boarding them.
Didn't spend much at the Garden Expo. I thought their prices were pretty high and the exhibitors who had day lilies and etc. for good prices were mobbed. I gotta tell ya, I was jonesing too, smelling all
the greenery. One stand had hanging planters with full foliage, 3 for $15, or $10.99 if you just bought one. Almost fell for that until I thought about where to hang them, I'm out of windows with full light with what I have now. Resisted. I did liberate a few teeny little slips though.......and they are rooting as we speak. Those plants were way too bushy anyway.....LOL
Sarv, I'd look for the root on that clematis too, being dormant right now may have saved it's life. Give DH a whack for me, that was just thoughtless, especially since you had already discussed how the trees were to come down.
I haven't had enough coffee to address the rest of the gang, but I did catch up on what's going on. I think we are out for breakfast this morning, DH is still snoozing, but I'll check in later.
This is one of the exhibitors who had beautiful copper and glass slip starters, Hard to see detail, but they were charming, and expensive.
Later
Oh that Sammi is naughty!!! I think I would have found an extra window or two for those plants on sale....never can have too many!!
Stayed in bed until 7:30am this morning - just too cold in this stinkin house to get up!! It was 58 deg - don't know why DH insists on keeping it freezing at night...my poor plants look mighty sad all shivering... DH said he was sorry (heard that before...) and then went out and got me veggie sub as an apology - I still haven't forgiven him, BUT there is a tree in my sun bed that I have wanted down, so I may just get the chain saw out - pay backs are hard here LOL He'll really be ticked if I saw it down... but oh well......
I tell ya, I have done nothing this past week except sit in my rocker with my heating pad and read. I am in my Feb funk...happens every year. I should plan on going somewhere fun this month. I have a roaring case of cabin fever... Next week I have a tupperware party - oh glory....what fun NOT... DIL is giving it so I have to attend.
Who was taking their grass clippings away??? Compost them!!!!
Molly/Darius - good luck on the fence construction. Hope the weather straightens up for ya...rain rain go away.
To those out east- have fun digging out!!!
Good Morning all,
Dogs had me up at 5:30 this morning. Geesh, I just can't get their bladders on my sleep schedule.
I'd like some of those grass clippings for my compost bin. We need more green in there and my grass (winter rye) isn't long or full enough to even consider mowing.
Sometime last night it stopped raining and the sun is shining this morning. Although it's cold out, the bird bath didn't freeze this time. I think we'll take the day off from the fence and work that tomorrow.
There is a private nursery over in town that I want to go see. Sounds like they may have some interesting things there. Then need to go grocery shopping. We are running out of food.
In a couple hours, not just yet.
Molly
:^)))
Meesersfive. If we did have high levels down here they would lie about it anyway. This lake is close to 100 miles long and is kind of the playland of the region. I think the developers and what not can control what comes out of the mouth of the State DNR. There is a invasive fish called a bighead carp I think it is. They grow to a big big size and have a perchant for jumping at high rpm sounds in the water. I know a couple of fellas caught one last year down by the dam that was 79lbs. I do not know if it was in the river below the dam are in the lake above the dam. At any rate it should have been subject to a lot of investigation. Those fish cause damage and injury in the missouri river with the jumping. One girl was killed up by kansas City when one about 30 lbs came through the windshield of her boat. Yet there was not so much as a peep about the one herefrom the DNR. Even after a picture in the locale paper of the fish. If they are in this lake now they are going to do some damage as they grow. But you can be sure the DNR does not want anyone to know about it. After all all the restaurants and bars around the lake got to make there fortune no matter what happens.
Molly from the pictures i see of your place it looks real sandy. I would not think that rye would take in those conditions. Guess I was wrong. I cannot grow rye here. Ozarks are known to be one of the worst places kn the world to grow grass. It comes up real nice then dies out in about a month. Only thing i can grow is Kentucky 31, and maybe a little creeping red.
OZ, The winter rye is grown as an annual here to fill in sparce spots or just to cover the sand until spring when we can plant the centipede grass seeds.
The only other option is St Augustine sod and I would guess, that to do my back yard it would take about 5 pallets or more. I would love the instant gratification of laying sod, but for now will save my money and do the "wait and see" until spring.
Once the fence is completed we will let the dogs out back. Will have to put pine needles down to keep the sand from coming in the back door and kitchen though.
One step at a time.
Molly
:^))))
Just dropping by to say good morning before I jump in the shower and start getting ready for church. Brrrr it is *cold* today. I'm thankful we don't have the white stuff, though. Don't think I could stand it. LOL
M5 LOL at the little plants rooting. Know you were just trying to do your part to help those poor poor plants look better so they'd sell. :) Good for you!
Sarv, I'd never get out of bed in the morning if it were *that* cold in my house. You are a brave one! LOL
Hi to Molly, Darius Maria, Defoe, Kelly, Susie, Ann, Mary, Flower, susan, Carol, Babs and everyone else I haven't mentioned. Got to get up as I'm running late. Will check back when I can.
... Elaine
Hi all
Cold and gray day here, but we're only getting a dusting of the noreaster that's supposed to hammer NYC and Boston. I wouldn't mind a nice bright fluffy blanket of snow, but I'm okay not having to shovel, too, since I'm still pretty congested.
Molly~I'm so enjoying your gardening adventures - it's like a fairy tale in this gray and barren area!
Mary~I hope you sell the horse, and that she gets a good owner. I admire you, as usual, for getting out in the cold and riding. I do my jumping lesson once a week, but it's indoors. Cold, but not windy. The footing is too bad outside this winter. A good snow cover improves the footing, but we've had almost no snow.
oz~the most remote lakes and ponds in the Adirondacks have fish with dangerous levels of mercury. There is no "away" as in, getting away from it. But likewise, if someone smells a dollar bill coming, they hush up any problems. It is a shame, because maybe people would care more if they knew? Maybe noe, maybe it's all just a high-octane playground.
sarv~sorry about your funk. I think it's a hazard that comes with a northern climate. Can you get away for a weekend to someplace bright and warm, even if it's a hotel nearby? I used to hang out in garden centers, green houses, wherever I could soak up sun and remind myself that the cold and dark will end. I hope you can save your clematis, too.
m5~Sammi looks like he's dancing! He's just TOO CUTE. He'd cure a funk in a heartbeat!
Casey~ sounds like you're having a good time in the dirt! Have fun in SC
defoecat~ your potluck sounds wonderful. Wish we had a group to pot luck with...something to look forward to in winter. Keeping DMIL in my prayers, and you're a good soul to take DM to her church. God knows your sacrifices.
I01~The balloon sounded cute, haven't seen one like that (guess I'm out of the loop!). I have to head to a funeral tomorrow, hope I can find something to wear. I never dress up any more.
ws~hope you don't get slammed with the noreaster
Babs~lol at your jonesing. At least you have spring on the radar there!!
suzieq I think you ARE going to get it, the noreaster. Do you have XC skis?
Ann~OMG on the missed dinner! Probably just as well, not spreading your germs. I'm heading to church but will try to keep to myself and not spread what's left of my cold. It's on the mend though. I can't usually keep up with aphids on house plants, either that or whitefly, and don't want to spray toxins in a closed up house.
I did watch the Olympics last night, a good thing to do on a cold night when you;'re not feeling great. THe Canadians are doing well! I was cringing in pain watching the mogul skiers! I just can't IMAGINE being that flexible and strong. The photofinish in the Nordic Combined was pretty exciting too, one guy got his ski boot an inch ahead of the other across the finish line. I can't imagine years of training and losing by an inch!!
I'd better get ready for church. Good day all!!

Good morning all! Have about 10 inches of snow right now. It has slowed down alot and should stop by 1:00. Been up since 6, when DH got up to plow the driveways. Thank goodness he got called into work. He was a grouch this morning!
M5- Had to laugh at sammy and the fan. Since we got the taller mattress, my Mandy CAN reach the pull chain. She only went after it a couple of times that I know of. Garden show sounded nice. I'm going to one on Friday in North Jersey. Any taste of spring will be welcome. I have done the Philadelphia flower Show a couple times. It's really nice, but so crowded that it's hard to really look at everythinng. Never been to the one I'm going to Friday, so I hope it will be nice.
Sarv - I like sleeping in a cool house, but 58 is just a little too cool. I wouldn't be able to get out from under the covers.
Elaine - Did the grits in the crock pot last night. The were really good that way. Unfortunately, DH didn't get to try them since he got called into work.
DMC - Stay warm today. I like a nice blanket of snow too, but this is a little much! 3-4 inches would have been plenty.
Have a good day everyone. I'm sure I'll be back lots, since I'm stuck in the house.
Good morning all,
I decided to stay home from church this morning rather than spread my germs where I don't need to. I HAVE to go to an orchestra rehearsal this afternoon as I will miss the rehearsal next Sunday evening - it is a conflict with Ottawa Symphony. The two orchestras have concerts over three consecutive days at the end of February - 25th and 26th for the OCO and 27th for the OSO. But the OSO has rehearsals all day (well afternoon and evening) on the 26th; so I can't play the conflicting OCO concert. Want to play the concert on the 25th though because I've never played Beethoven's Symphony #8 before. It will be tight. OSO rehearsal from 3 - 6 on the 25th and OCO concert at 8. Anyway, if I miss OCO rehearsal this afternoon, I would have to pull out of the concert as this will be the last full rehearsal I will be able to get to. We've had to pull someone else in to play as principal.
Same thing happens in May except that the OCO concert is played only once rather than twice - it's a concerto competition for young pianists. I won't be playing that one at all and so far they don't have an alternative as principal viola. It's THEIR problem because they had my OSO rehearsal scehdule when they set up the concert dates.
Am missing an OSO viola sectional this afternoon too. OCO is normally in the evening, but they changed the rehearsal to this afternoon. We have OSO string sectional tomorrow evening and I know I need to have a good look at the Shostakovich Symphony #1 before then if I want to avoid being yelled at. I've played it twice before; so I'm hoping that there will be good retention.
This morning, I think I'll sign off here and go clean out my freezer. It's finally cold enough that I can put the contents into the porch while I give the freezer a much needed defrosting.
We are just a bit north of that storm which is affecting the east coast and it's bright and sunny here. Hope it stays that way. I can take the cold if we get some sun. I hope that those of you who are affected by SAD get some sun soon. The Winterlude Festival that we have here in Ottawa helps in getting over that mid-winter hump. And this weekend, unlike last, is picture perfect for it. Cold but not overly bitter and bright sun. Good for the ice sculptures and skating on the canal.
M5 - your Sammi sounds like a lot of fun. Love the pic of him going after the fan string.
My daughter has a horse and it keeps her broke between vet bills, trailering costs (she can't afford her own trailer yet), boarding costs and the cost of gasoline to get to where she boards it. She's already working on getting the twins interested in horses and though since I'm retired that maybe I could sew some riding pants for them. NOT!
I'm jealous as I hear some of you talking of plants for sale. It will be awhile in this climate - probably another 6 weeks until we get rid of most of the snow. And grass clippings, yes - COMPOST them if you don't leave them on the lawn. They provide good green stuff to get the compost pile going.
Hope you all have a good day.
Ann
Good morning. It ain't summer yet! 20 degrees here this morning but the sun is out so it is expected to get up to yesterday's balmy temperature by mid afternoon. There just isn't much heat generated by the sun at the low winter angles.
My dear Hubby built the fire in the woodstove but the heat hasn't reached the office/den/computer room yet. AmandaPanda helped me type for a while but has now gone to play somewhere else. I need to find her some new toys, she lost her ball somewhere and I spent a lot of time looking under dressers and such with a flashlight and still haven't found it. Did find places where the dust bunnies have escaped from the vacuum cleaner tho.
Last evening after dinner I just got to watching the Olympics and didn't get back here. I missed the close Nordic finish, that would have been tough but loosing by an inch is like loosing by a tenth of a point or fraction of a second. People who compete in these high level events understand that it goes like that, and that they might be the winner sometimes by that ever so tiny margin. I did see the final of the men's speed skating, no close contests there but the USA did get a gold medal. That's a good kind of heavy metal. Also watched some figure skating and some of the women's moguls event.
Oz, those flying fish are something else! You are probably right about the hush hush, money drives so much of our world. I was thinking you could trap those fish by setting up a high rpm motor (or the sound of one) in a trap and just let the fish trap themselves. Then have a big fish fry and plant the innards in your garden. Or maybe it would be more fun to have a fishing derby. The fishing story about the hook in the guy's pants makes me think of a similiar story I heard years ago about a guy who was driving in heavy downtown traffic, stopped at a light and lost the lighted end of his cigarette. So he is frantically trying to find it and a bus pulls up beside him, everybody next to the windows looks down at him.
Sarv, I'm sorry for your funk, I think you need a frisky kitten to help you out of it.
I've missed a dinner invitation too. I wrote it on the calandar a couple of weeks in advance, then got so busy that I never looked at the calandar. The day we were supposed to go we had unexpected company from out of town and had just finished dinner when the hostess called. Very embarassing, but she was gracious and invited us to come the next night, then took the enchiladas she had made to some friends who had been sick, so it all worked out just fine. And she fixed more enchiladas for us the next day and we had a great evening.
Babs, it sounds like you had a nice relaxing day with your hubby. Had to laugh about him finding you in the garden department with a glassy look in your eyes. Did you buy the cart or just put it on the wish list?
Meezer, the cost of keeping horses varies quite widely. It depends on the housing and the feed required. My horses are kept quite cheaply in contrast to some, since mine are in a pasture and I work for my neighbor who supplies my hay. My major expenses are medical things and shoeing.
Hello to everybody I missed, see you later.
We do not know if they are in here yet. Maybe just in the osage river below the dam. I think they are trying a lot of things in the Missouri River none of which will clean them out.
Brrrrrrrr, Maria!
Maria!! Don't you dare go out and shovel that snow yourself!! That's an order!!
We just had a dusting yesterday, but may have a few flurries today. Weatherman still not hitting the mark, just the usual erroneous predictions.
Oz, the Wisconsin DNR has proposed issuing hunting licenses for children as young as 8, an age when they are still required to have car seats!! Can you imagine? I don't want to run into an armed eight year old in the woods, thank you very much.
Sarv, you and I both need some sunshine. Don't see any liklihood in the near future though.
Elaine, watch out or we'll change your name to the Grits Fairy...LOL
Babs, I don't even dare go in the garden shop at HD, I'll end up bringing home house plants which I don't need any more of, and I completely understand the urge to purchase. It's only February, how will we make it through another two months???
Ann and Mary, I should be embarassed to admit, a dinner invitation is one appointment I have never missed. Unlike the Dr., dentist, salon, miscellaneous meetings, etc. Says a lot about my selective memory.
Casey, you've generated a lot of dirt envy among us. Sigh. In spite of it, I hope you have a great visit to the new place.
Doorbell!! Check in later.....
lol, meezer, never touched a snow shovel in my life lol some one else always did and does it. I think this is suppose to go on till we hav about 12 to 15 ", juk and brrrr is right, Darius.. Right now I am just delighted to have a generator in case lights go out and that just might with all that wind
Ohh, I'm having a migraine.....I've taken a bunch of stuff and nothing is touching it....It is tax time and I always get them...I get in a major funk because I have to round up all the papers and worry while DH just goes about his fun stuff. Same thing every year and I'll be find once I get thru them. DH says I get myself in this mess, but since he never lends a hand (he says he doesn't know what to do...), I take it all upon myself. I keep telling myself that it will be over soon, but my head says something else.
Gotta go close my eyes for a bit and see it it will pass...g rrr
Hello everyone. When I got up this morning DH was gone, but had left a note by the coffee pot, saying he couldn't sleep, so he had gone to the hospital. I went to early church, DM called and decided not to go. Got home and sort of straightened the house, fixed a sandwich, took some magazines to DM, washed a load of clothes, and am thinking about having a nap before I tackle some more paper work. We are supposed to go to a Mystery Dining assignment tonight, so have made "back up" plans in case DH doesn't get home in time. He called about 12:00 and said that they were taking DMIL to the operating room to put in the chest tubes.
Well,it seems most have been busy today, I don't have time right now to reply to anyone, but will be back later, and do so. So in absence of words, I am waving to all. Have a nice afternoon.
M5 well does it surprise you 8 yr olds in the woods. You know regular people such as us I suppose cannot comprehend the great thinkers of our time. That brings another story to mind.
I am fortunate enough to be old enough to be able to remember and have contact with some of the real hill people from this area of the country. They had a flat way of wisdom that would make these great modern day thinkers blush with embarressment. I knew one that lived his entire life and raised his family in a 2 room cabin high up on a hill above a river. He used to pick up a couple dollars in the summer selling worms down on the river and guiding a floater now and then. I was down there one time after a heavy rain and the river was rising. There were two teens portaging the low water bridge since it was about to go under water. Well it concerned me a bit. And I said to Harvey "wonder where those kids are coming from". and he gives me that straight look with no emotion of any sort and I knew I made a mistake. Then he says in his flat matter of fact way "up the river". So being a young modern thinker at the time I figured I would cover for that silly question and I ask him "Harvey wonder where they are going". Well you can imagine what he said same expression same way he says "down the river". That kind of stuff will reduce a modern thinker to reality. I had never seen him mad. The most upset I ever knew him was one time he had two fishermen in a boat in front of me,guiding them down the river. This one guy was a terrible caster. He kept missing the edge of the bank and throwing the lure into the overhanging brush. After a whole bunch of times of Harvey retieving his lure he very calmly told the guy that "on this river about 8 in the morning the dew drys of the leaves and the fish go back in the river so you won't find any up there".
I miss that time and people as I get older. Pat's grandmother always talked of the past as yeasteryear. I had a aunt named Earple, and Pats grandmother was named Haddie, Her aunt was named Birdie. I miss all that stuff it does not fit in our modern thinking world. But if it was able to ask Harvey he would just say something like "things change" and you would know he thinks it stinks to him.
Hey, all. Kids are still here, so is still rather noisy. After being together this long they have started to argue with each other. Can't wait to send everybody home, but I'm pretty good at blocking out all the noise.
Good news...Our new furbaby Samoa crawled into bed with us last night. He slept by my feet, but it was a good start. Then this morning he woke me up by rubbing against my hand wanting me to pet him. I was so happy that I didn't even mind the early wakeup!!
I think I'm starting to understand the whole computer thing now. I have a bid on Ebay on some books on Pugs. That is a big step for me because I'm afraid I'm going to mess up and do something wrong. I guess that applies at regular auctions also, because I'm always afraid I'm going to scratch my nose or wave at somebody and end up paying $500 for something I don't want!!
Meezer-The picture of Sammi is great! That would cheer me up anytime. Sammi should be a circus cat.
Sarv-If my house was that cold when I woke up I would never get out of bed or be able to take a shower. I have a really hard time getting out of the shower as it is because it's so warm inside and always feels really cold when I get out. We keep our house about 68 but I have one of those oil filled electric radiators in the bathroom to keep it warmer and I still hate to get out. Of course, the cost of our water bill here is very motivating. Our town put in a new sewer system a few years back, so for minimum use a water bill here runs $62.86. Ours is normally $90 a month.
Babs-I understand the jonesing. I did the same thing at Walmart the other day. I went thru the gardening section almost drooling at some of the things in there, but it's way too soon for me to buy anything yet. We do need a new lawn mower, so that is cutting into my budget for this year. Have to buy the necessities before I can have fun : (
Everybody that's getting snow-So sorry!! We have just been getting flurries here and only a dusting staying on the ground. We don't need to shovel.
Hi to everybody else. I'll check back later and catch up with everybody then.
Brrrrrreeeee...it got down to 15 last night and is now up to 43. Sun is shining but the wind is blowing and it's not outside weather. There is ice on the pond, just a skim, but looks cold to me. LOL
We are washing dog blankets today, they are filthy and I thought they might enjoy a blanket fresh from the dryer. Pepper is in her sweatshirt, she is in big time shiver mode this morning.
The woodpeckers cleaned out their suet peg holder. So I refilled that and DH hung it up. I mean they really cleaned it out. You couldn't tell there had ever been anything in the holes. Amazing!!
Sarv,I'm so sorry about the migraine. I haven't had one, but DH has them and usually says he has to throw up before he gets better. His is usually brought on from lack of sleep.
Maria, that looks very pretty. I would actually like to have some of that for maybe a day. Then it can go on and melt. LOL What does Samson think about it??
M5, love the Sammie picture...that is adorable. Now don't you go and bring another nookitty in the house. Souky will have kittens.....LOL
Think I will go start a nice beef stew. Haven't had that for awhile and since it is cold would be very tasty I think.
Susan
=^..^=
Susan, Samson just loves it, you should see him, act like crazy, keeps eating as he runs along and jumps up to catch the snow flakes, he is so funny making me laugh as I watch him
Morning all.
Sounds like some people here are very cold.
Am glad that we have some sunshine still, tho it has gotten down to the high 30's at nite.
Sarv, do as others have said. Try to find that root of the clematis or at least try to root a piece of it. I would be very ticked too.
As for the cold mornings, I used to live in my old house with a wood stove and loved it. Nothing beats wood heat.
BUT
at nighttime, it would die down so it would be quite cold in the morning. Never did enjoy that at all.
I01, I agree, I don't like the snow.
Maria, please keep that snow back east, lol. Bet Samson is loving playing in it tho with his ball.
M5, do love that pic of Sammi going for that chain. What a great pic and jump. You have quite a kitty! He seems to really keep you on your toes.
Dcat, I sure hope your MIL does get better after this next surgery with those tubes. Hope she gets to feeling much better afterwards so she can recup fully. Am thinking about you and her today.
Molly, your place with Darius and Jeremy has come along so far, baby! Keep up the good work. Love to read about it all.
As for those grass clipping, yes, do compost them. Wish I could take them. I need to fill in my new retaining wall with anything possible. Am going to look into some free horse manure here in town but am not sure if I want it due to having possible weed seeds in it.
As for plants growing, I am now just about to start some. Have been putting it off for awhile until my son finish wrestling which he is totally done for life.
The past couple days have been so hard. Went to the wrestling district tournament. My son was crying softly at the beginning when it all started. So sad to see. I sometimes wonder tho if it is all harder on the moms tho. I was upset all thru it the 2 days. Especially when they did the finals. They had done it up so nicely with lights, kids walking down the aisle, etc.
I did get a break in the middle to come home and work in the yard. It was so sunny that I ended up potting up a hardy gardenia that I had bought last weekend. It is so healthy looking and I only paid $12 for it. It is from a guy who owns a nursery and his stuff is great. Nothing I have bought from him in the past couple years has died!
Just finished putting together some seeds for the fragrant RR. Was interesting to see the seeds that are fragrant from the south.
Am going to plant my sweet peas in the ground today. It is sunny again tho it needs to warm up, is only 45 degrees. Maybe go to a nursery to buy a hardy nectarine tree. I would like one and to see if it will produce here in Oregon.
Have read and loved reading all you guys have written. Just didn't have time to post lately.
So have a great Sunday today,
Carol (DR)
Phew, migraine left or is hiding...took 3 aspirin, two excedrin, can of cola, an ice pack and a good cry...(I know it is tax related...) Was going to go over to DS and do taxes on his computer. Gathered up all my tax info (I just throw it in a huge envelop when it comes) Well, it seems I never got one piece of info from the bank. Thank goodness I looked over things today instead of waiting until the day our tax appointment was. Now I can go to the bank tomorrow and ask them to send a copy. Anyhow, in looking thru out stuff, I decided it just wasn't worth all the headache doing them myself - I'll spend the $130 and have them done. Migraine gone.... LOL
DH got in a tizzy with me sobbing about taxes and bamboosed to the barn (his hideaway during stress!!)
Fl Ch - we have one of those bathroom heaters too (ours is elec in the wall - just crank it on and stand there! Thank goodness we don't have to pay for our water - I just let the hot stuff pour on me!
Hopefully the clematis roots are still in the ground ok - I just saw the broken stems on the wire. It just better come back!! DH was talking about building an oblisk there for support- he better do something nice!!
Take care all!
GM, everyone!! A good Sunday to all!
I've been up and about since 0630 today, but I'm just now getting a chance to post. Ummm, then I'll be off to the back yard and some shrub trimming. Now that we have a utility trailer to put all the yard refuse into, I feel like I can get after the chores in the yards and not have to worry about what to do with the clippings, trimmings, etc. DH will be running into town in a short while to pick up some exterior grade plywood to put down in the bed of trailer to preserve the wooden decking in there. He's also going to build a frame of sorts so the tarp that will cover the trailer when not in use will be tented a bit so the rain runs off instead of puddling on the tarp. Woohoo! Spring is almost here and I'm feeling like getting my fingers into the soil and getting after my gardens.
I wish to thank all those who posted their kind remarks about DH and I getting a day away together off the island yesterday. It really was a wonderful feeling to not have the responsibilities I've had these past weeks for a couple of days. DH and I enjoyed our time on the road together and enjoyed being able to accomplish a task without having to hurry back just to take care of Mum or the neighbour next door. It's amazing how much of a renewal it can be when one has a chance to enjoy their time with their spouse, unencumbered.
Now, as to the jonesing question in a previous post. Jonesing is a term used by druggies for the feeling they get when they are out of their drug of choice and they are in need of a fix. It's the anxiety of withdrawal. So, does the idea of me jonesing in the plant section of the store make sense? LOL
Well, the sun is poking out and I need to make with the chop chop in the yard. I'm hoping I can get the lawn mower through the mess in the back yard as well as get after trimming the snowball bush and a few other things. I hope everyone has a wonderful day and enjoys themselves. *hugs* all around! ~Babs~
It's 46 degrees way down south ... and I've gotta tell you ... that's way to cold for *this* GA gal. ;)
Oh Babs, LOL at jonesing! Got it now. LOL LOL
Sarv, so glad your headache is better.
Defoe, am sure thinking about all y'all up there. Hope your MIL has made it through the surgery again. Am saying prayers for her. Please do keep us updated.
Suzie, glad your grits turned out. They're good to wake up to, but I actually like them better cooked in the a.m. when I have time to prepare them. I know the package says they're ready in 5 mins ... but that's just not so in my opinion. *smile* I like to cook them slow and long ... maybe 30 mins to an hr.
Maria, don't blame you ... wouldn't want to shovel that snow either. LOL Bet Samson is having a blast.
Flower, that's great about the new kitty. Sounds like you've won him over now. :)
Susan, yum beef stew. That's one of my fav things. Real good on a cold day like today.
Carol, am looking forward to that seed RR. I'm in it with you. LOL Hope your son is doing better today, both physically and emotionally. He's still in my prayers. So are you. I know it must be real hard on you. Big hugs to you. :)
Well, I made a pot of Southwestern chicken chipotle corn soup. The recipe recommended serving it with avacada slices and sour cream, but since the DH is lactose intolerant, I made guacamole instead and served it with a dollip of that with fresh cilantro and crumbled totilla chipson top. It was very tasty.
Ooops, there's the phone.
... Elaine
Well, I am distraught .
DD just called and having severe abdominal pains, like cramps or gas, but worse. She has gone to the emergency room. DGD had a concert this afternoon, and she had to leave her there with a friend who had gone with her, so she could go to the ER. I can't imagine what is wrong, but all I do is imagine what could be wrong.
She is in tears of course and in a lot of pain. I feel so helpless, so far away and handicapped besides.
If she has to have surgery or something, how will I get there????? OMG, beside myself with worry.
Susan
=^..^=
so sorry Susan, how old is your DD? perhaps you could call her doctor to find put more details, or the hospital, I am certain they will tell you after all you are her mother
Susan - Hope DD is OK. Will keep her in thoughts and prayers. Keep us updated.
Defoe - I appologize for not mentioning DMIL earlier. I have been thinking of your family. Hope the new chest tubes help her to recover.
Shovleld some snow after lunch. Heavier than I thought it would be. Has stopped now, think we ended up with about 14 inches, hard to tell because of the drifting. Sky is actually looking a little brighter now.
I am so envious of those of you who can work outside!
Maria - I love watching my dog run with her nose in the snow. Sometimes I can get her to dig in the deep snow by pointing and saying "whats in there lucky?" She is getting older and doesn't like the snow as much as she used to. But on warm days, I can't get her back in the house.
Just got a call from her. They have released her. They said her cervix is so red they don't see how she can sit down. Also could be early appendicitis. BUT still they released her, gave her some pain meds that she said helped, and she is going to try to get in to her doctor tomorrow. Surely, they will get her in don't you think.
They said if it is appendicitis the pain will get much much worse and she will get nauseated. And to come back in if that happens. sheesh
She is 33.
She is home now and is more upset about missing Jessica's concert than anything else. Jessica was so excited about it, and they had done her hair and bought her new earrings so she would sparkle, and then she had to miss it. And missed it by just 5 minutes because they made her wait 50 minutes in the ER for some test or other. I guess that is the way it is. :(
I feel better, but am still worried about her, and she is stressing over not having her homework done for her class tomorrow night. She is very dedicated to her schooling, and does not like to not have her work done.
Thanks for your support everyone.
Susan

Hi all,
No time to do much of a post right now. There's a line in back of me waiting for the computer! Both DH and my mother have things they're in the middle of. Will try to get back later. For now, I just want to say "Maria, take a look at this. We're still getting the snow piling up here ---- just got it a little later than you did!"
Susan, please keep us informed about your DD. Whoops, you posted while I was writing. Hope she continues to improve with the meds. SO sorry she missed the concert.
Molly is off grocery shopping with a stop at a local private nursery. Jeremy is stringing fence wire and I'm warm and snuggly inside making beef and barley stew for dinner.
McCool just like here about 15 " it is up to Samson's belly, and this would not be a drift..
I made some palatschinken, the kind Casey asked for the recipe, going to take a picture of it later so you all can have some for dessert
