berrygirl's fragrant RR part 2

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, I''ll be darned. Mailed on the 8th and received on the 20th, and that is why we are paying more every year for postal service. Pony Express could have delivered it in less time. Anyway, I am so glad that it turned up. Thanks for answered prayers. Now you all can have the same fun I did in digging through it.

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

I have just heard from picabo via d-mail that she has the robin- PTL!! Things are lookin' up.

Woohoo! That means it's headed for me next!! :)

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Yes, it is!! Just hold on- LOL!!

Nashville, TN(Zone 6b)

Hi everyone, I had lost the thread and didn't even know the RR was on the way. LOL

I had just spent the day in the E. R. with my mother. I got home late last night to a real treat. A tattered, torn envelope full of seeds. DH said he hadn't seen me so excited since Christmas.

I am going to replace the enve, slip in some new seeds and send it on it's way. I babysit g Kids tomorrow and can't make it to p o until Thursday.

Betty, I hope you mom is okay. What a terrible day you must have had. I'm glad the RR cheered you back up. Take care, and have fun with the G kids.

Nashville, TN(Zone 6b)

Thank you Pins, Mother has Heart failure, just a matter of time, nothing more the Doctors can do. Maybe today and maybe in 10 years. She is 86, I always tell her any of us could go before her. She is not worried about it and lives like she will be here forever. Great attitude! She does give us a scare every once in a while, we would like to keep her around. We talked about my flowers most of the day in the E R. She is like me, ready for Spring.

Betty

Betty
Just wanted to wish your Mom well. Sounds like she's really something! Hope you have lots of flowers to brighten her spring up.
Hugs&blessings to both of you ... elaine

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Betty,
Hugs for you and prayers being said for you and your Mom. She sounds like a feisty little lady with a great attitude on life. I am sure she appreciates what you do for her and being with her in the ER, etc....Enjoy every second you can with her.

None of us is promised our next breath. I believe I will not die til God says so.

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Betty, am sorry to hear about your mom. She is the same age as my dad who is failing too. Enjoy them while you can! Plus enjoy the gardening bond too. That is great.
Am glad to see this is still going around the US. Cool. Glad to see my sweet peas didn't get lost or dumped in the rain puddle, lol.

Thanks Everyone for your concern about Mother. I have all of my seeds packed and ready to go. If DiL picks up the boys early enough tomorrow I will get the RR mailed tomorrow, if not Thursday for sure. Looks like it really took a while getting here.

Betty

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

picabo,
PLEASE don't concern yourself right now with the RR. It has gotten safely to you- which is all that matters. I dont think anyone will mind if you take a few days, considering the circumstances with your family.

Nashville, TN(Zone 6b)

Not a problem, Thursday will be fine for me.

I just had one bad day among MANY good ones, I would not have mentioned it except that getting the RR was such a bright spot in an otherwise stressful day.

Betty

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Betty, so glad that you were there with your DM. Sounds about like my situation with my DM, she is 87, and I never know what the day will be like. Just plan, and then cancel if necessary.

Sorry for the hiccup with the RR, but glad that it finally got to you. I was so sorry that you all wouln't have the same fun I had when I got it. Wish that package could talk and tell me what detours it had on it's way. Our government at it's best.

Nashville, TN(Zone 6b)

It just put some excitement in the trip. Now everyone can get excited again and still plenty of time to plant for spring.

Betty

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Betty,
LOL! You have a great attitude. You must get it from your Mom!

defoe,
Your earlier comment [on the 20th] about the Pony Express being faster than the USPS was priceless!!!

Well y'all ... let's just see how fast that pony is this time! LOL LOL I'll let y'all know soon as it get's here. :)

(Zone 7a)

Betty, wonderful that you live close enough to your Mom to have that kind of conversation - mine is also in a boat similar to yours right now. That generation sure sets quite an example, don't they?

Very glad to hear robin is still flying.

Some folks, earlier in this thread, were wishing they could participate in something like this that included international DG members. Here it is: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/584800/ This one will be a swap and include seed for loved, uncommon, heirloom plants as well as fragrant plants.

YOOOOHOOOO!!! It's back in GA at last- lol!!!

Elaine take as much time as you need. Hope you get lots of good seeds.

Nashville, TN(Zone 6b)

There are such fun things in there. I will post the things I took out. I took some of the Poached Egg seeds. Haven't seen that before. Planted them a little while ago. I also took some of the winter squash. Can't remember what else, I will find my seeds and post. Happy that it got to Ga so quick.

Betty

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

101,will you be finished in time to talk to me on Wednesday? Doin a happy dance for you!!

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Betty,
winter squash!?!? What was that doing in a fragrant RR? LOL!! What other non-fragrants are in there?
Now before ever who put it in there gets offended, I'm only joking.

You bet I will, Defoe. I've already started plundering. Got my eye on those Poached Egg seeds, also. Have never seen those either. I can tell you there's a heap of goodies in this bag! :)

Nashville, TN(Zone 6b)

I wondered why the Squash was in there, that is why I took a few. The package says Cushaw Winter Squash. Makes me want to plant some to see what they are. LOL

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

Okay, gang, for those people who got the Poached Egg seeds, be sure and harvest the seeds for the next exchange. They sound delightful! In fact, we should harvest lots of the seeds we planted this year for next year's exchange.

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

I agree pins. And if there aren't any left by the time the RR gets to you, LMK and I'll send you some.

Nashville, TN(Zone 6b)

If I had know about this last fall I could have had some really cool things to share.

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Me too picaboo. I had a ton of dames rocket seeds and "my own strain" of OF petunias.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

picabo, cushaw, is a very large usually green and white stripped squash. You peel it, cook it with water, then put it in a baking dish, add a mixture of brown sugar, a little corn starch, butter, and some water that you cooked it in, put it in the oven and bake it. The brown sugar and butter make almost a caramel sauce. It is similar to maybe sweet potatoes, or pumpkin. It may take a time or two eating it, but it sure is good in the winter time.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

101 bet I know what you have Danny doing tonight!! Way to go girl.

Nashville, TN(Zone 6b)

I love any type of squash. Is it similar to Butternut squash?

Bet I know how it got in the fragrant RR. It's cause it smells so darn good when it's cookin, right? LOL
