berrygirl's fragrant RR part 2

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Thanks for posting Makshi. Hope you get lots of good seeds to try.

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Wow, that was fast, from Mon. to Wed. just regular mail. Am glad that it got there ok.
As for sweet peas, don't know about the hummers, maybe someone else here knows.
Carol

Maybe you could post in the butterfly and hummers forum?

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

It left yesterday headed out to Nancy.

Oooh can't wait!! Will let you all know as soon as it arrives.

I have never seen hummers around my sweetpeas but then by the time the hummers show
up here, the sweetpeas have pretty much pooped out in the heat. I haven't found that one spot yet
where they'll keep going. Cupani's keeps going the longest so far.

Ooooh, this robin is flying *fast* for sure! Maybe he wants to get down here in the south where it's warm? hehehe

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Thank you very much Makshi for posting the conf #.

Your Welcome

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Okay where is that box of luscious, fragrant seeds? I am getting impatient. Now don't dwadle, send it on, so we in the south can get our seed fixes!

Warren, NJ(Zone 6a)

Hi everybody,
Got the package yesterday but was too sick to care. Sorry to keep you all waiting. Feeling much better today and hope it stays that way long enough for me to add my seeds and send it on it's way.
It was lovely to open it when I woke.. a little personal surprise party!! ;)
Will post as soon as I put it in the mail.
Forgot to ask, Debbie, I was intending to send this on to Bluespiral. I thought there was some talk about switching but then Blue said she was ready (or is this my fever talking?!).
Please just confirm for me and thank you so much for starting this.

Nancy,
Thanks for updating for us.
Sorry you're sick- I know how you feel. Hope you feel better very soon. There is no rush to get the RR out- you have 2-3 days to do so. Take it easy today and deal with the seeds when you're better!

China Spring, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh how I would love to join one of these. Didn't know they had one. Let's do one this fall after we harvest our seeds from our gardens. I already used my seeds in my winter sowing. I'm a real stickler about plants being fragrant. If it doesn't smell good, it's not in my garden. It's the #1 priority. No scent, no real estate.
hilary

(Zone 7a)

Nancy, it'll be fine, when you're ready, to send it on to me. DH is well enough to drive short distances, which puts us in range of the local post office. I hope I'm still next, because the timing will be right for me to address another family emergency after I send it along.

Hilary, now why didn't I think to call myself "bluehag"??? I love your moniker - am feeling quite haggish lately. But I know I'll be quite the Happy Hag when ye box lands on my doorstep :-) (Not to mention the Fragrant Hag later on this summer - ROFL) That's a great idea about our applying ourselves to saving seed this summer for an even better fragrant RR next fall/winter - There's a few on another thread who have been talking about it - perhaps we could expand membership to include them and you?

Daisyruffles, some time today I will dmail you - I have some seeds you might like.

BG, thankx again so much for taking on this RR - I'm sure we are all less haggish for it this cabin-fever season.

Haggishly yours, karen

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Hey, Great, Karen. I would love any seeds you can offer me. Let me know if you want any of mine too. An "Hag"??? No, not you, hehe.
The idea for a fall fragrant RR is a great idea! Maybe we can get some more people who grow things here in the NW or at least the cooler areas???
Maybe we could do a secret swap with others too with fragrant plants? I want to root some honeysuckles (2 different kinds) and whatever I can find this spring.
Yes, thanks for doing this RR, great idea.

How about allowing us "foreigners" in on the next RR? I'm sure Zarcanat has cooler weather seeds, as I do. I feel quite left out only being able to watch this RR from a distance.
Maggi

(Zone 7a)

Maggi, you are about to have your very own Fragrant RR - DH and I are on our way to the post office. A lot of ideas here - will pursue when I get back -

karen

oiartzun-near san se, Spain(Zone 8a)

Wow Karen, you're a star! I'm getting really excited.

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Sorgina,
I am very sorry you feel left out, as that wasn't my intention. This was my very first time starting a RR, and I didn't want to bite off more than I could chew. It's been kept in the states with only 15 participants and there have already been a few tense days already wondering where it was. There have to be limits set on the # of participants and locations in any RR.

oiartzun-near san se, Spain(Zone 8a)

Sorry Berrygirl - I didn't mean to complain. I did understand your reasons for limiting the RR to your country. I just suffer from uncontrollable seed greed, I guess, especially if they're the fragrant kind.
Maggi

Warren, NJ(Zone 6a)

It's on its way! This flu doesn't show any sign of abating (had it since Sunday..talk about feeling haggish.) so my dear husband took
it to the post office for me. The confirmation number is: 0305 2200 0001 4259 0920.
Karen, I hope you have as much fun with it as I did.

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Nancy,
Sorry I didn't see your edited post from this morning asking who to send it to next, but you seemed to have figured it out- LOL!!! Thanks for posting the confirmation #. Give your DH a hug from me for being soo good to you.

Maggi,
Every thing is OK between us. I know you weren't complaining. I just wanted you to know why I excluded you "foreigners" [your phrase- LOL!]. I really wish I could have everybody participating.

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Karen,
As Nancy said, it's on its way to you. I hope you get a lot of good seeds. PLMK when you get it.

(Zone 7a)

Thanks, Nancy for such a quick turnaround. My seeds are packed and ready to fly with the robin when I send it off.

Will post when I get it. chirp.

blue,
Yes. I also have a list of "instructions" incl. in the RR. Hope you enjoy it!

(Zone 7a)

BG - you posted 2x while I was trying to figure out how to express my excitement - must have taken 15 minutes to arrive at the "chirp" - LOL. Can't say how much fun it is to be among such a great group of "seed hounds".

(Zone 7a)

BG - crossed again - gotcha and yup!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

I love the term "seed hounds". Nice description. Can't wait, can't wait, gonna hijack the mailman, shake him until he gives up that box. LOL

(Zone 7a)

Welp, I have no couth. As soon as the robin flew through my door this afternoon, I fell upon it like skunk on a cabbage. Hopefully, the seed of 4 kinds of flowers I have always dreamed of but not obtained before now will improve the Eau d'Skunk pervading my hovel for the moment.

I added seed of 25 kinds of flower. There's still seed left in all the packets I raided.

Thank you so much, all - karen

So, is the thing with this RR to get some seeds, but not all, and then replace them with more packets? It sounds like a wonderful idea if so. That couldn't work if there were just a few seeds, but some packets I've gotten in trade have tons of seeds in them.

What are some of the seeds currently in the robin? Enquiring minds want to know. lol

(Zone 7a)

I think, as long as we put in the same # of seeds that we take out, we're fine. I just harbor a fantasy of driving down any old road through "yardens" bristling with flowers - this is my 2 cents toward that elusive "best of all possible worlds".

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

pins2006 - I can't say what is in it now but when I had it there was lots of Datura, Night stock, Petunias, Brugs, Choc. Daisy, Candytuft, Carnation, Pandorea Vine, Limnanthes poached egg plant, and Nicotiana. I know I have left out a bunch but Im going off memory and thats not too good anymore. Maybe someone that has had the RR more recently can go on where I left off.
Karen - What I took out I put back in. Some packs I just wanted to try a few seeds so I returned a few seeds with what I had. Others I took the whole pack so I added in a full pack.
Caren

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

That sounds great! Your memory is wonderful!

(Zone 7a)

Pins, if I recall correctly, everything that Caren mentioned was still in the robin, except for the chocolate cosmos. I also recall Oenothera pallida, Dracocephalum moldavia (I forget the common name on the packet), a heliotrope (but I suspect that packet might be a valerian), different colors of sweet peas - there was a wonderful abundance of seed.

I added the following:

Asperula orientalis (blue swt woodruff - annual)
Basil (plain green)
Candytuft (annual) 'Dwarf Fairy Mix'
Carnation Stripes & Picotee
Carnation 'Early Dwf Vienna' 12" (perennial)
Cestrum nocturnum (tender tropical)
Dianthus allwoodii
Dianthus superbus 'Loveliness' hybrids
Erysimum asperum (zone 3 - 4, cool weather, like pansies)
horehound
Lilium 'Black Beauty' x L. 'Casablanca' & x L. 'Silver Realm'
Lunaria (biennial)
Matthiola bicornis (Evening Stock)
Mathiola incana 'Cinderella'
Mignonette (Reseda odorata)
Mirabilis longiflora
Snapdragon dwf mixed
Snapdragon 'Royal Bride' white, tall
Sweet Alyssum 'Maritimum Tall Sweet'
Sweet William tall mixed
Viola odorata

A few of these came from my garden last year, and I estimate there were about 500 seeds of Sweet William in that packet (there were a few packets there already of that flower). However, for the most part, I based my quantities of seed on the standard DG # for a trade: 24 seeds. The mirabilis longiflora only had 10 seeds, and the cestrum nocturnum had 18 seeds. A couple were in 2 or 3 packs, not just one.

Perhaps I did not come out ahead money-wise, but I do appreciate the opportunity to share with anyone whose garden is not as far along as mine. After all, it was 10 years before I spent a dime on any plant "for pretty".

I sure hope we can do another round theres some seed in there thats on my want list! ;o)

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

To see what was in the package from my order is up above on Feb. 12th too.
But you guys don't need to know, you can be surprised, hehe!!!
That is part of the fun to see what is in that package, like Christmas!
Carol

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

I know the surprise is fun. But, I'm so impatient! lol

(Zone 7a)

I mailed the robin to Shirley today, and the confirmation # is 0304 3490 0003 1494 8831.

Pins, instead of 25 different kinds of flowers, I added 25 packets including the varieties I listed.

The robin looks like a lot of gardeners have been very generous - folks down the line should really have fun with this.

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Thanks so much blue for posting the conf #.

Shirley, it's on its way to you! Let us know when you get it.

Montreal, QC(Zone 4b)

Hi there! I cannot control myself on buying seeds LOL!

If I am lucky enough to collect seeds from my fragrant plants this summer, I might start another RR, this time an international one, is that OK with you Sorgina? I will keep in touch with the international TOMATO RR just to see about the cost of postage and if anything gives trouble along the way.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

The robin has landed! I'll be sure to let you all know when it takes off again!
