OK, ok already, ROFL!

There is a bowling alley that Julie and I have both eaten at, and they have an unusual appetizer platter called a "Garbage Basket" One of the items is deep fried pickled cheese curds. Cheese curds squeek on your teeth when you chew them. Pickled Vermin fits, and they are quite tasty! Especially when dipped in their garlic Alfredo sauce. And yes, the whole basket is a heart attack waiting to happen.

I can't wait to see you there this winter Julie!

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Morning Everyone!! Busy afternoon for everyone yesterday and most everyone checked in!! Now how great is that!!

Pickled vermin (I've decided) must be road kill..nuff said...

I tackled one coat of dark green paint on the cellarway - with DH standing guard in case I should take a fall (now wouldn't you think he could help a little....) Went well until the paint edged decided to make a new edge - grrr, now I have to get the ceiling paint back out and redo parts- where's Molly???? What in the world is the trick to edging??????

M5- I am married to hermit's brother!! My DH NEVER wants to go anywhere - it is always a fight to get him outta the house. And movies for $3??? Man, is that a steal!! We can get into afternoon movies for $6 (senior price), but not the evening.- they are $11 (highway robbery!!!) I've been hearing good reviews about the Johnny Cash one, so I plan on seeing that (with or without DH)

Kooger- that's one handsome family you have there!! Gosh, getting them to smile all at one time!! I have one that refuses to smile - always looks like a grump!

10l - cute story about the bells. Hope poochie doesn't just stand there and ring them all day tho!!

Molly - glad to hear the the move is getting closer for you. But eating dinner in the car and reading by flashlight?? Now that sounds like roughing it! Speaking of generators- we were getting one for xmas until DH told me we don't have a shut off on our house...is that illegal???? DH said he would have to pull the elec. meter out to hook it up...grrr things never work out...

Waving HI to everyone else- I need to head to the shower to wash the mane and dehair other places - got a busy day ahead (still don't know what's up for TG, but turkey has to come out of the freezer today!!)

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Morning all! Looks like another dull gray day. I posted in yesterday's thread, but thought I'd better get myself over here before I forgot where I was. Gonna make a shopping run today, (DH is home ALL week...groan....) and try to pick up some new down pillows, I've got a couple that have lost their ooomph, and I got a coupon for 20% off at two different Linen/bed bath places. Miles apart of course. One is near that Riemans store so maybe I can pick up another book for Casey. Also looking for a lightweight lined jacket for winter. I have a big bulky one, but I'd like one just for quick runs into the store and back to the car. I feel like Ralphie's little brother with those bulky ones...you know, from A Christmas Story?

SuzieQ, pasties are filled with cubed beef, diced potato and onion, S&P, and the crust is pie dough. Easy to make but messy and time consuming....

But, Robert!! That dinner plate made my mouth water! It looked so good! My DS does a casserole that's similar, uses walleye filets, boiled potatos, and peas, with a bechamel sauce.....sort of like a lutefisk dinner but all in one dish. She cooks everything ahead of time, and just bakes it long enough to meld the ingredients.

AND I finally got the last of the bulbs in yesterday! Put a bunch in with the hosta under that tree in the side yard. By the time the tulips and daffy's get sickly looking, the hosta will cover them... heh heh I seldom plan that well. LOL

MG, there's a midwest chain of BBQ places called Famous Dave's (I think some one here went to it but I can't remember who) and they serve a 4 person meal on a garbage can lid..... A clean one of course.

Sarv, that is bargain movie price, last year it was $2.50. They also have a senior popcorn and a senior beverage for a buck each. DH would absolutely choke at the $11 movie price, and we would never go at all. I think we are going to get to the Harry Potter one midweek, while the kids are in school. They are in school aren't they? They get so much time off these days I'm not sure how they make the state mandated number of required day. The only way I know for sure is the kid next door gets dropped off and picked up by bus.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Morning, all! Rainy day here and we will be off to the landfill / garbage dump with a truck full in about half an hour. Might get snow tomorrow so need to do it today.

M5, I wash and dry my feather pillows 2X a year, with the Woolite for washing machines. Really cleans and fluffs them nicely. I wash tennis shoes with them so there's some "weight" in the dryer to continually bounce and re-distribute the feathers. I do my down jackets the same way. The only trick is getting the pillows saturated with water in the wash cycle. I usually have to fill the machine, turn it off, and punch them down several times before starting the actual wash cycle.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Back for just a minute. Hmmm, I think I need to wash my feather pillows They are from when I lived at home!! eons ago.... I heard on TV that you should get new pillow 2x a year...a ploy to sell more pillows?? I must have a truck full of mites living in mine (ugh- what a thought...)

Still waiting to hear from DIL about TG - I will probably have to CALL her.... another grrr. I feel great today, so need to get the boody off to the work out joint, then back home to do some cleaning (neglected for several weeks)

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

Morning all,

Just wanted to check in quick, have to get to Dr. appmt's. today so don't have much time. Will check back later.

sarv,
did you turn the light on this morning so your wo pants are on right? LOL

TT4N

Kelly

Hi all
Just checking in a minute. Got to get going this morning what with so much to do, but wanted to say hello to everyone.
Darius, we got real rain yesterday. It was so nice. I know the plants were all out there "singing in the rain". :)
Sarv, you always amaze me with your dedication to your work out.
meezersfive, I know exactly how you feel about being all bundled up. Can't stand that either.
I like those pasties also. The DH and I had them out in Montana when we were there, and they are so good. Wish I had the patience for fixing them. A very good recipe was posted in the recipe forum.
Well, I know I've missed a bunch, but it's hard to keep up. Please just know that I do try. Hi to Maria, MG, MaryE, Ernie, Kelly, Hap, Molly, and EVERYONE! :-D I can't name you all. Hope everyone has a terrific day.
Hugs ... Elaine

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Hi people,

Everyone's been busy as usual and there's no way I can really catch up on the last two days of posts!

Hi bk, nice to meet you.

Ditto to everyone's Xmas shopping woes. You'll never catch me at a mall the day after Thanksgiving either. I can't imagine why they all flock there like that. On the other hand, I'm a small time merchant myself, and I can tell you that without this shopping season at least 95% of us would be out of business. December is about the only time I actually make a profit--- and it has to carry me over for the whole next year.

We DO have to go shopping today --- have to buy that turkey and assorted groceries, wine, etc. We're planning on having lunch first at our favorite Indian restaurant. It's always better to go into the grocery store full (not hungry) as much fewer extra stuff finds its way into the shopping cart.

Babs, loved the stained glass. I've always wanted to try doing that but am put off by the cutting, breaking part. I just don't trust myself to get it right. We used to stay at an inn that had loads of gorgeous antique stained glass everywhere. The new owners have made a mess of the place though and I can't stand to see it in its reduce glory.

Saturday's craft fair was okay but not great. The economy around here is not good and everyone's sales are down. It was still just about worth getting up at 5 AM though.

Hurray, I've finished SIL's Xmas gift! Now I don't have to have those waking nightmares about working on the thing at 11:30 on Dec. 24th and making an irrevocable mistake! I'll post a picture so you'll see what I've been talking about.

Sarv, I don't know how you manage to get all that painting done with the arm problems you've been having. More power to you!

Molly, glad to hear that you're so close to getting re-settled. I think you'll be much happier there. No landlords to contend with, for one thing. I envy you the space too and the uncrowded neighborhood. We've only got close to one acre here and have neighbors on all sides. The only time this yard seems too big instead of too small is when we're trying to contend with all the leaves that come down.

I know that I've missed plenty of people. Sorry! I've really got to get a move on though ---lots to do before Thursday gets here.

Here's the picture of the deerskin vest.

Wow, are you ever talented, McCool

Starkville, MS

mccool - if she doesn't want it, I'll gladly take it. That is beautiful!

Bit of trivia - the fringe was originally put on to help rain drip off rather than soak in.

You did a very nice job.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, folks, only 10am, and everybody is busy at something. Good going. I have been up since 5 am, with arm hurting. Don't know what's up with that. I have been cleaning, doing laundry, have mopped all the bare floors, and have a ton of stuff I need to do outside. The day is sunny but chilly, so this afternoon seems like would be a perfect time to head outdoors.

ViolaAnn, yesterday was a pretty day here too. I was so busy, that I didn't get to enjoy much of it. Out of rehearsal early, is just like a day off school.LOL

Babs, I sure am glad that you loaded DH IPOD for him. I know what you are talking about, have a friend, who gives minute details to every story she tells. My eyes glaze over every time I have to talk to her more than 10 minutes at a time. That window is surely a work of art. Compliment them for me.

MorningGayle, thanks for the explanation of PV. Don't you just love those kinds of meals occasionally?

Sarv, please be careful, are you painting on stairs? My last painting adventure cost me $4,000., with a fall from the ladder, a broken thumb, and surgery to repair a torn tendon in it. I found out it is cheaper to hire a painter. LOL

Meezer, I laughed when you described your heavy jacket making you look like Ralphies little brother. I don't like heavy coats either. DH home all week, have you memorized the Serenity prayer? Think you are going to need it.

Darius, I also wash down pillows, but had never thought to put in tennis shoes with them. One time I had a dog, who tore open a down pillow, while we were away from home, feathers all over the place. Have you ever tried cleaning up a mess like that? First tried the vacuum, just blew them all over the place, finally, scooped up most, and hand picked the rest from the carpet. Needless to say pillows strike fear into this heart.

McCool, that is a great looking garment. Sure hope she appreciates all the work that went into it.

Well back to cleaning, will check back in later.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Back from the workout joint! I only go because a friend and I signed up together. She however is a skinny minnie and didn't need it at all - I make up for her tho!! It is really a social type thing and I enjoy it once I get there. Still not dropping weight, but have toned up and honestly do feel better.

Yes, I am painting a stair well and it is scarey. That's why I insist DH be there to watch me. I am careful, but I will not ever do it again. Think pea green will be in style in 10 yrs??

Just got a reply from DIL, she will let me know this evening!! Crappp I need to take out the turkey NOW!! (counting to 10 over and over and over)

I'm going to wash down the stairs and get going on painting them. I have to take a lamp with me as the light won't get to the bottom as we have part of it covered (long story- not worth going into) The things we do for beauty!

News was on and they are closing three more car plants in Mich. How much more can this economy take - it is really sad.

Gonna crank the xmas music on LOUD and get busy!!!

ps - gorgeous stained glass - I was going to take a class, but when I found out it would cost me 100 bucks to make a small thing to hang on the window, I decided it wasn't for me! I'll admire others!

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Hello again. I've been offline for one reason or another for a couple of days so am way behind on the doin's and the happnin's.

Welcome to you, bk. Come back often. We can't all get here every day, or sometimes every week and nobody should feel bad about that. We all have a life, and then there are the things like my ISP not working at all for a while this morning. Don't they know I wake up here?

Wow! Babs, that stained glass is pretty! I have done a little of it but nothing like that. The supplies and tools are in my basement, unused in the 12 years we have lived here. Since I am not artistic I find that I can make something pretty using a pattern somebody else has made. I took a stained glass class when we lived in Alaska, it helped with the long winters up there and probably should get going on it when winter gets long here but I need a warm place with good lighting and no help from the cats.

Beautiful vest, McCool. If your SIL doesn't like it I'd sure take it off your hands. I made a buckskin shirt for my hubby years ago, it took 4 hides and was sewn on an old electric Singer machine using nylon thread from a shoe shop. The stitches never stayed even lengths but it did stay together. That was my one and only buckskin project. One of our sons has the shirt now since Pappa "outgrew" it.

Saturday I was busy all day with a trip to town for breakfast and some groceries, canning tomatoes all afternoon and a visit from our son in the evening. Yesterday I left here at 6am and met friends 40 miles away to go with them and look at a horse that is for sale. We had a long trip with heavy fog along the way, saw the results of several accidents related to fog and black ice, looked at the horse, my friend didn't buy it, and then we came home through fog and dark. I got home about 9:30 pm and sat here reading until I got sleepy, which with the help of a glass of wine didn't take very long.

I forget when Molly actually plans to move to the new place and when Darius plans to join her, but it sure does look like it's getting close. A big (and good) adventure for both of them.

Time to get myself moving, much to do before our guests arrive. Most of them are coming on Wednesday evening, but a couple of them might come tomorrow. Oh, my neglected house............. umm, guess what I'm doing today?

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Aw Gee, Gayle...you went and spoilt my fun. I liked thinking about all the queezy tummies I was helping to push over the edge with the P.V. LOL Oh well...our secret's out now. But then...there's a lot of our regulars who don't know about cheese curd much less the deep fried variety...and probably wouldn't like the idea of chewing on a new rubberband (that's what I thought I was eating the first time hubby brought them back to Illinois while he was starting his job up here.)

Good morning everyone. It's nearly 11:45 here...and would you believe that I just got up? Me either! Usually up and at em by at least 7. So before I sit down and try to catch up here I have a few REAL things to do.

Catch ya later!

~julie~

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Funny thing about it tho Julie, now that they know what PV is they don't want to talk about it anymore, rofl!!!

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Gayle DON'T talk to me!!! I can't be on here all day, well the rest of it anyway. hehehe (Maybe they know what PV is but I'll bet we'll be the only ones taking off the counter now. :-D)

Who is now going off to TRY to read her *watched* threads...and get some other online stuff taken care of. ;-)

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7b)

Awww, thank you to those who made comments about my BIL's stained glass window. It really is a very nice piece. He drew out the plan for it, then made his pattern and went from there. I'll be sure to pass on the accolades to him, it will give him a real boost. He's the one who is still recuperating from the cancer surgery and has not been feeling his best lately. He tires out easily and thinks he should be back to 100% like he would have been back when he was 25. I keep telling him each additional year takes more out of our recuperative powers and that he just HAS to learn to be patient. Patience has never been one of his virtues.

I'm including a picture I took last night of the new additions to my sister's family. They recently lost their 14 year old beagle and they've been bereft ever since. So, they have been looking for a doxie pup. They found one, went to see her and fell in love with the litter mate as well. They brought them home a week ago Sunday and here they are after our TG early supper last evening enjoying a little cuddle time with my BIL. Allow me to present Dino and Chloe, the dappled doxie puppies, all of 8 weeks old.

Hi gang.....back on the net, AGAIN. Comcast shut me down on Fri, I think.....This is not fun. Now I don't know what's happening to all again. Oh dear.

Hope all is well. still cleaning up from Wilma and getting ready for TG. Molly is here painting my house before she leaves. So glad I get to spend some extra time with her.

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Hi Everybody! Short week this week, then 5 days off! Yipee!!

Now that I know what PV is, it might not be so bad. Anything with the words fried and cheese together has to be good.

Babs - that stained glass piece is wonderfull

Sarv - Be carfull with that painting

Meezer - Thanks for explaining the pasties. They sound good, will have to try making them.

McCool - Very nice vest. Must have been hard sewing on the deerskin.

Everyone have a good afternoon!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

OK, good morning, except it's afternoon already. I think I FINALLY have this set up right with the system set to watch the NEW thread.

Now to go back to the old one and finish reading.

BabsERNurse - hope your DH got to Germany OK and WITH luggage. I recall a trip in 2000 when we flew to Hamburg and drove on to Sweden. We were supposed to go Ottawa-Toronto-Munich-Hamburg, but thunder storms in the east delayed our redparture from Ottawa. The flight to Munich must have been the only one to leave on time from Toronto because it was gone even though they told us everything was delayed. We were re-routed through Heathrow to Hamburg and arrived with no luggage. DH's arrived the next day to our hotel in a small city in Sweden (Linköping). Mine took 5 days to show up. We had told the airlines just to keep it in Hamburg because we were driving back there, but all of a sudden there it was. Certainly cast new light on what is essential when you travel.

The stained glass window really is lovely and the entire window will be really striking when finished.

re pillows - I never had any good new ones till my kids left home. Then I decided that the old feather pillows that came from my mother's home were really dead and replaced them. I've never tried WASHING my feather pillows, but keep protectors on them which are washed often and I run the pillows in the dryer on heat several times a year. That will do in the dust mites. I like polyester pillow, but not ones that have been washed and battened down like you get lots of times in hotels. They are so cheap, they might as well be thrown away or given to charity once they lose their loft. I generally travel with a pillow if going by car and have been know to go out and buy a polyester one when I get to where I'm going if I don't like the ones where I'm staying.

McCool, sorry the craft fair wasn't overly profitable. Hope the sales pick up as we get closer to Christmas. The vest is looking good. Gives me an idea on what to do with a couple deer hides we have in the basement. Been there for years and come from deer my late FIL shot.

I also urge caution to sarv on the painting. I like to paint, but have a high central hall in a split-level house. When we renovated the basement a couple of years ago, I started from the bottom up and then looked up, up, up and hired a painter. I decided that the last time I had managed to get up to the ceiling and beams at the top that I'd been a dozen years younger. And this young, tall, lanky painter looked up and said "You did it the last time? How did you get up there?" Well he did a good job and didn't cost the earth.

Babs - love the pups. they should fill the hole in the heart left when the beagle died.

Well, I need to get out to a store and then back to practice some before this evening's concert.

Have a good day.

Ann

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

I've chuckled about the down pillows. When my DS was about 15 he decided that he wanted a down comforter..I course, I made everything under the sun, so I decided that this would be my next project. Over that summer I collected all the pillows I could from the auctions that I went to...then bought material, tight woven at least, for the comforter. Bill and I started in the space bedroom taking apart the pillows. Well you all know what started to happen....oh dear, oh dear. We decided that we better move the operation into the bathroom. I did help some, but we were breathing feathers for days. We all went around the house spitting in the air trying to get them out of our mouths.....what a sight. But, we both are determined sorts, so we did finish the thing... Oh, I forgot.....we thought it had to be full so we started to stuff it.....then we couldn't pick it up so we had to start to un-stuff. What a production. We still laugh about it.

Then we got it on his bed. It still was so heavy he couldn't sleep right....so down in the bathroom again to take some more feathers out. Of course, more went around the house again. What we don't do for kids...lol

I'm all of 5' and painted a stairwell too. I took a long pole, duck tape the brush to it and away I went. It's amazing what we do when we are young and stupid...

Have a great afternoon and see ya later.

Hap

Hi all. My computer is kaputz for a bit. I took it in but they say it could be up to four weeks. YUCK, but Best Buy has the geatest warranty program.
DS~is letting me use his while he is at school. Soooooo...

BK, its so nice to meet you. These ladies are wonderful and quite the entertainment......

Meezer, thanks for remembering me and the book. I need to get a big warm down jacket before we move. I only have a thin lined windbraker now.

Darius, I am glad you are making so much headway on your move. I know that Molly is going to really enjoy having you up there while she just use to the country way. I had to smile about you Cat. Mine always scream at me for a bit when I come home from a trip.

Molly, it is so good to know that things are getting done with your home. I had to laugh at the image in my head of you holding a pair of loppers walking through the house to check it out for safety.

Viola, does any of your groups have CD's out. When DD played with the LV symphony they produced a yearly CD of the performances and sold it to help off set some of the costs.

Deep Fried Pickled Cheese Curds......and the only thing that you could come up with for a name was pickled Vermin...... yuck....MG you eating habits are starting to worry more then others on this thread. OH Julie, you too???

Babs, the window your BIL did was incredible. I have wanted to try stained glass, bought most of the supplies and tools, moved, and now I have no room. Hopefully when we move again and have the garage completed. The puppies are so cute. Puppies are what get me in trouble. I want them all.

Sarv, at least DH is careful that you have a cushion when you fall and land on him. LOL I usually wait until DH leaves the house before I start painting. He is just to much of a supervisor anymore.

McCool, Looks like you did a great job on the vest. I know your SIL will just love it. If not give it to Mary. LOL

Defo, I don't have a down pillow or comforter in my house any more either. Came home from work and my cats had decided to go feather hunting. A king size feather bed cover and two king size pillows were displaced through the house. We were finding stray feathers for weeks.. I laughed at the vacuum idea, that was our first thought until the initial POOF when you turned it on.

Julie, glad you slept in. You probably needed it.

Happy, hi to you, glad you internet provider allowed you to come check in. Just in case, I hope you have a great Thanksgiving, and tell Molly to do the same...

Hope I didn't miss anyone. With having only borrowed time from DS's computer, I better do this now. I hope that you have a safe, warm and memorable Thanksgiving. I know that I am very Thankful for all of you.....

Hap...I *had* to pop in on the Down Comforter. I've sewn a LOT of down garments in my time...and once even ripped apart a full length down coat of my FILs to make jackets for my kid. Taming the down was no problem at all. I just put a clean bag in my vac...attached the hose, and 'VOILA' Instantly packaged...all neat and clean! AND contained!

~julie~

Just checking in ...
Ann, I'd love to be at that concert tonight!
Sarv, please do be careful with that painting. Sounds dangerous to me. You don't want a bump on your head to match mine, do you? :)
Babs, the pups sound sooo cute. Give them a hug for me, K? Please give your DH best wishes from across the miles in hopes he's feeling better soon.
Well, although I've never had them fried ... I am familiar with those yummy cheese curds thanks to someone special here at DG. :-D
Hi to everyone I've missed today. There goes the dryer. :)

Afternoon - taking a painting break now. I did the stairs this afternoon - now I'm trying to unkink my legs- man that was a nasty job. The steps are old have a zillion holes in them and I could kick myself for not having them carpeted when we had the familyroom done. Oh well, it will be time to redo the carpeting in a few years and I will do it then. Maybe I will check into those runner things that go down the stairs.

Funny thing, the walls are pea green, but when I put the paint on the stairs, it is many, many shades lighter. Crazy what the light does to things. Wish steps were darker....drat. Hey Molly, what causes that???

DH is home from work but decided he HAD to get the trailer in the barn before the next storm comes thru (like tomorrow..) I should go out and give him a hand. There is about an inch on either side of the trailer to get it into the barn. Last year he forgot about the ladder hanging up high and the trailer window caught on it and smash....what a mess.

gotta run - there he goes...

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

whew - no disasters!! Trailer went in slick. Check that off the to-do list!

It has been gloomy, cloudy and a damp cold that goes straight to the bones. The temp isn't bad tho.

Oh my gosh, I've heard everything now - making a comforter out of down. LOL that's something that even I wouldn't attempt!! LOL My boys told me that once when we were gone they had a pillow fight with the down pillows and one burst. I wondered for years what happened to that pillow. They must have cleaned up good because I don't remember any tell tale feathers. Gosh, wish they wouldn't feel the need to tell me these things now!!

Oh cute puppies....DIL went to the humane society to look for a calico kitten (there's had to be put down) and came home in tears. Said they told her the cats were put down in 4 days if not adopted - gosh that seems quick. She wanted to take them all home with her...

yes- my workout pants were on right side out - I checked!!!

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7b)

This will be my last post today. I have to go to work this afternoon and have some appointments and errands to run tomorrow and Wednesday. Oy vey! I'd really like two days together without any running to do, but I guess it's just not in the cards right now. Ah, such is life, we gripe when there is so much to do and we gripe when there isn't and claim we are bored.

I wish to thank all for their kind comments towards my BIL, his stained glass window and the puppies. I will certainly pass them onto he and my sister.

Hubby is more than likely in Germany now, it's about 2145 local time there. I'm sure he's exhausted and probably found a rack in the barracks upon which to rest his tuchas. He has a couple of big days ahead of him, Tuesday & Wednesday he meets with his troops and tries to settle any matter(s) that require his intervention. He took a HUGE parcel of goodies with him on the plane so he could hand carry letters, cards, and small items from families and spouses to their deployed personnel. It's a little like being an early Santa in camo! LOL.

He will be spending TG Day with the troops, cooking. He's quite the cook actually when it comes to turkeys. He had the *tin benders* build him a cooker (sent the specs ahead a few weeks ago), had them comshaw a huge metal pot and he's going to make deep fried turkeys for the folks in his command. He took all the spices he needs along with him, I just hope they didn't break open in his bag....LOL. Otherwise, he's going to smell like a Raging Cajun!

Friday and Saturday he intends spending in Luxembourg and traveling around seeing a few things. Then Sunday he will be back here, quite late. He'll probably arrive while I'm still at work.

So, that's it for me. I hope all you good folks have a wonderful day. Please keep it a safe one and whatever you do, do it with care.

*hugs* to all, ~Babs~

*edited for a couple of grammatical errors. "Bad Babs, bad nurse!!!" LOL

While I was walking my feet to the bone shopping y'all have been a busy bunch! I did get a couple of loads of laundry done, Dh put the first load in the dryer and the second load in the washer, so it's all done now.

In the 80's you could buy a huge tube of goosedown from Sears, very cheaply, and I made pillows. When it came time to stuff the casings, I took the whole works onto the upstairs shaker porch, and thus had no feathers floating around inside at all!! There were plenty hanging from the willows and the lilacs though.

Carat, read your dmail. And a down coat or jacket? Where do you think you're moving to, Alaska? I was hunting for a lightly lined wind breaker type and found one at JCP, for $29! Had fun cruising through Bed Bath and Beyond where they honored my other coupon so I got two pillows there, found a zester for $3 at TJMaxx,
and a spoon rest 'cuz my 25 year old one broke last week.

What cute puppies. I am so grateful that they are not mine!!! LOL

Painting ceilings....looking at the height in our living room, it's got to be 15 feet at the peak. We painted instead of having the builder put on their watered down latex, and I told DH at the time that we were never going to do it again. Now it's five years down the road and it sure could use a new coat, but I think I'll just keep the lights low and let it ride until Spring. Now I know why they call it a "great room" you think about dusting the cobwebs, the ceiling fan or painting and say "Oh. Great!"

I'm going to go put my feet up and stick my nose in a book. Reading "The Mermaid Chair" my DIL lent me.

Casey - I also had to chuckle about the need for a down coat. I DO need a warm coat in Canada, but since I'm in a city, better to keep it something I can throw in the washing machine easily. If I'm downtown and a bus passes me, I'm likely to get a whole pile of salty slush thrown up at me. I DO have a warm polyester-filled coat and it's roomy enough to get a couple of sweaters or a polar fleece vest underneath it if we get REALLY cold weather.

In regard to recordings, - the Ottawa Symphony is a community orchestra which is approaching professional status (we get paid, for one thing), but it still has a lot of people who live and work in the community as doctors and teachers, etc. in addition to a number of free-lance professionals and people like me with degrees in music who teach or do other work in the community. And then we have the very serious students from the University of Ottawa music dept. which supplement the local people. But we're still classed as community; so no recordings with the exception of a few broadcasts we've done for the CBC over the years and the archival recordings which are not made available even to members of the orchestra (there are union issues there, I think). The other orchestra I play in makes recordings of some of its concerts available, but it really is an amateur group and I don't think you'd really want the recordings. They have a lot of fun and take the music seriously, but are not even close to professional. It will give me a place to play when the OSO turfs me out in a few years. LOL

babs- where in Germany is your husband? We spent a year there close to 30 years ago and we get back often to visit. We enjoy taking little grey roads on our road atlas.

m5 - my living room is about 10 1/2 feet at the centre point. But the hall goes up and keeps going up to the second floor. Quite a challenge to get to it. When I was younger ....

Better go make dinner.

Ann

Oh meezersfive ... you made me smile with the great room thingie! :) hehehe
Ann, break a leg tonight ... or is that just for people in plays? :-D
Ooops, the DH just called and is on his way home. Sorry if I've slighted anyone today. Hugs to all.

Hi everyone -
Once again enjoyed crashing your thread and seeing what everyone's up to and getting inspired (and quite frankly tired just watching all this activity!!).

Babs -BEAUTIFUL stained glass window - what I wouldn't give to have one! I miss color so much in the winter and I can just imagine staring at the light streaming through that beauty!!

McCool - the deerskin vest is also beautiful. How do you sew deerskin? Can you use a heavy duty machine? Sorry to hear that your craft show wasn't as good as it could have been. I checked your website and your work is wonderful! I wondered how sales would be this year. I think everyone's worried since the oil price spikes.

i have some down coats saved that don't fit KNOWING I could do something with them, but afraid of opening a can of worms so to speak, so it's fun hearing what the rest of you guys have done with down. Maybe I'll get ambitious.

sarv - congratulations on the successful stowing of the trailer (I'm a lousy trailer backer, although I CAN hit the side of a barn with one!!LOL)

Now I have to go clean since I spent the whole day outside playing with horses, and then I have to get a turkey since I procrastinated on that too. I already have the potatoes, carrots, string beans, squash, corn and pumpkins from the garden (YAY!!) THere's nothing i like better than AVOIDING THE STUPORMARKET!!

Then I spend 8 hours roundtrip tomorrow picking up my daughter from the University of Rochester. Her first trip home since college - now she's company! (Isn't it funny how they go from kid to special guest after the leave?)

Let'ssee - for the painter folk - here's my last project painted - the basement playroom. I did a cathedral ceiling too - scary. It's white...and it's staying whatever....not doing that again!!

Other side of the basement - I just realized that I never took photos after the carpeting went in. I think I was too tired

WOW.. now that's painting.

I am originally from Rochester. Great little town except for the weather. I have been very happy in FL for the past 22 years I do go back, as I will right after Christmas, for I have 2 sons, 3 grandkids and a 98 year old father still there. My kids hate the warm weather....My second son only starts putting on a coat after it gets below 50. For me, I don't go out at that temp. They reallllly did a number on me last Christmas; they put the outside temp at 10 below just for me. LOL Then, on top of it, they keep their homes at 58-60. I about freeze....INSIDE!!!

Mcd....I love that Stupormarket...it sure it.

Ann, do something with the stuff, but just don't take the down out of what ever it's in an sew it in something new. Re-upholster it, so to speak....

Hap

PS..That spell check really works....lol

Painting stories and feathers! What a combination! I remember friends who had geese and stuffed some pillows. They worked outside on a "calm" day and found out what a tiny breeze does to poofy feathers, but it was better than having them all over inside the house.

Dmc, that's so pretty! Just bring the outside right inside. You're very talented. Oh, and you aren't crashing our thread, you're part of the group now. It only takes one visit and we just adopt you.

I'm in the middle of a cleaning project in the basement store room. Had some winter squash that spoiled and now have to wash shelves down with bleach water before I can put some of my canning kettles away. It's that "but first" thing you know. When I get them out of the dining room I can clean there but not before.

Ok, my tea is gone and I've only allowed myself time to play here while I drank it. See you later.

Well.........I have just looked back to Fri looking for that stained glass.....where it be, folks....

Got a flu shot yesterday and now I'm as sick as a dog. Missed work, which I can't afford and will miss again tomorrow.
My spousal unit has made more progress on the greenhouse but still hasn't uploaded the latest pix for me to post here. I hope to do that in the morning.
At least I got my last tulips planted yesterday before I got to feeling so bad. We are getting a lot of rain which we need. It got so dry here that my well got low and we had to watch our water use. I don't know how much water it takes to raise the water table, but with the trees going dormant, I would think that there will be a big difference. We are also supposed to get some snow at the end of this rain as a cold front moves in. I hope not too much.....

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Soooo sorry you're having a reaction to the shot. The first one in years and it does that to you.....Shame, shame on that bad shot. You really going to get snow? UGH...better stay under the covers.
