Carat, now I know why that's your name. You're a jewel! Anyone that says she'll come clean my windows is definitely a jewel! :)
MG, I'm with everyone else ... I just don't understand people these days. Why in the world would you even dream up such a thing that could hurt little children? These things are beyond me. Until the laws are changed, though, and we start making people responsible for their actions ... nothing will change. Okay ... sorry, I'll get off that soap box before I get started. ;)
Julie, I don't know what your drawing is, but if God gave you a talent, please use it or like my Grandma said ... "You'll lose it". :)
Maria, wasn't Samson suppose to have another lesson today or is my mind still groggy?
I am still in shock about all the weather conditions everyone is putting up with. I mean ... I hate to keep on, but it's 82 degrees here. I do wish it would feel a bit more like Thanksgiving. Y'all remind me of that when I'm freezing, K?
Sarv, when are you going to xplain the back door thingie? :) Oh, and I happen to disagree with you, girl. Looks to me like you've done quite a bit.
Oh know ... y'all hang on!
grrrrr I have my seasoning meat on for the turnips, and while I'm in here running my mouth ... the dang pot cooked over! What a mess! See what y'all let me do. Looks like one of y'all could keep an eye on it so I could get a word in edgewise. Now I'll go clean up that mess! :-(

Coffee and....For Wednesday Nov 16, 2005
Hey, I can't begin to keep up either! I DO try to hit the high spots if someone is ill or in pain, or has had a wonderful occurrence though.
Elaine...this is a word picture...just for you, ok? (No one else can see me!)
Picture a little 2 year old (pudgy tummy, sway back). She has on old faded blue jeans (rolled up at the hem) and a faded red tee-shirt. She's sorta "sad" looking...she has a stick with a hobo bag tied on the end over her shoulder...and a yellow scarf with black polka dots on her head. She's running away...slowly. Very slowly. ~smile~ And yes...now that I think about it, it does look like a childrens book illustration. It's just too bad that I can't dot dot dot bold letters and caps ACTUALLY do it when I want to. LOL
OK...now the rest of you can read this part. Thanks Hap, Sarv and Bonnie. I don't draw much any more....but it's not lost...just hiding.
(I had to come back in here...I was beginning to sweat from all the "stuff" that's getting done in my house today. OK...so I didn't eat enough to keep the insulin from giving me low blood sugar and I got shakey. I'm gone...again!)
~julie~
Sun is peeking through the overcast, no frost this morning. The moon must be in conjunction with my elbow, or something. lol Have to sit around the house waiting for phone calls since DW went to get her car greased and do some other things. Finally remembered to put an ad in the paper. That might be why nobody called, sorta like the reason I didn't win the lottery 'cuz I forgot to buy a ticket. The shade man came by this morning and replaced the horizontal blinds in two bedrooms with vertical ones. After 25 years the old ones were pretty sad. Would rather be outside. Started routing out the background on the second door jamb when the sit-by-the-phone problem arose. Had Cod cooked in that boxer's grilling machine, don't recall his name. It sure is a wonderful utensil, perfect for grilled cheese sandwiches without buttering the bread to get it browned. Almost bought some Lutefisk when I was grocery shopping yesterday, but $ 7.95 a pound was too much. Usually get a few pounds at our Sons of Norway lutefisk dinner each November but missed it this year. Best dinner of the year: Lutefisk, Swedish Meatballs, Coleslaw, Peas and Carrots, lots of Potatoes, White Sauce and melted butter, Lefse and lots of coffee.
Julie, your drawing is excellent. I thought it was one of the commercial pictures, like from Hallmark. Good work.
Can't answer so many post, hope a couple comments will suffice. Sarv, you need a stash of Oreos in your Emergency Disaster Kit.
I can think of some appropriate punishment for those hoodlums who cut the brake lines, without anesthesia. They wouldn't be troubled with creating a 'next generation' by polluting the Gene Pool.
Generators are a great asset, but the few times we have a power outage and the short duration don't justify one. The gas stove works without the power but the house can get a little chilly. We don't have the intense cold of some of the other States due to the marine climate in the Puget Sound. DW just came back so I can go out and play.
Elaine I am just as baffled about the back door thing too. I think they are keeping secrets from us.....
I would boil over pots so much on my other stove, now I have a glass cook top and it rarely happens. Guess its because it would make it so much easier to clean up.....Such is life...
As far as the windows go, I wet the window with a hose, use a scrubby to get the big stuff off, rinse, mix up water, creme rinse (not conditioner) and vinegar in a 5 gallon bucket and apply with a sponge and rinse with the hose again. They dry with out spots or streaks and takes longer for the dirt to build back up.
Julie, had to scroll up to see that picture. Don't know how I missed it. Really nice job. Have you thought about illustrating children's books for some side money. Just a thought!!!
OK.....where do you find creme rinse that's not conditioner? It sounds like a great idea. I have 6 sliding glass doors and windows too.
For small stuff like glass tables I use rubbing alcohol with a dash of water. It cleans and then dries fast so that there is no streaking. It's the same as Cinch that is 5 bucks a bottle.
Hap
The moon must be in conjunction with my elbow, or something.
LOL, Robert!!!
Well here I find it in the hispanic area of the grocery store. Its a generic brand and costs me 99 cents for a 28oz bottle. It only takes a couple cap fulls and is a dream.
Thanks for the cleaning tips, Carot ... but I must confess ... it's not that I don't know how, I'm just lazy. *hiding face* I'll do most everything else, but WINDOWS? Please, no!;) hehehe
... Elaine
P.S.
What is Lutefisk, may I ask? *showing my ignorance* I know I could do a google, but will let someone tell me.
Elaine, windows are pretty far down on the list of likable chores with me, that is why I like this method I don't spend an entire day trying to get them all done. Its an OCD issue not a like one. LOL
I haven't a clue what it is but assuming its a fish of sorts.
I'm BAaaack! (But not for long...I promise!)
Casey, are you talking about a creme rinse like the old stuff...I think it was "White Rain"? (I was going to make a joke about using the hose indoors...but decided to just let it go. hehehe)
While I'm here...Elaine...you are so very sweet! I'm glad you could 'see' it. :) Thanks
Hi Robert!
Windows are actually *high* on my list of "like to do"...mainly because I *like* to look through them. :-) But seriously, I've got the absolute *best* method of washing my sliding glass doors. I have one of those (I think it's a Shark) steamer. When I really want to get the doors and large windows done...and done in a hurry ...and *very* clean, I use that. Only takes a couple of minutes to steam clean the "dog snot" "kitty licks" and "two year old's PAW prints" off with no leftovers. And it's much easier on me than cleaning with window cleaner that has to be done 3 or 4 times before I'm happy with it. (Just a thot) :-)
~julie~
Julie, yes exactly like White Rain. But I am cheap and use the generic stuff. LOL Had to laugh at the hose in the house though..... NO, I dont think I will be trying the method in the house. But I do my indoor windows when dusting the sills every week.
Watched a Cosby show once that they had a water fight inside the house with a hose. Oh someone would have been buried that weekend...
Julie, Thanks!!! I never thought to take my ladybug steamer outside and do them. But then the thought of dragging it through the garden I might hurt a plant..
When we first received our gazebo for the spa I was washing the windows constantly. Then my neighbor told me to use Armor All and although I thought it would make a greasy mess I gave it a try.......I was surprised how well it works on plexiglass.
Seems I'm #93 unless someone posts while I'm writing. What a day!! Julie, put down the mouse and back away from the computer slowly!!! LOL I thought that was a Hallmark picture too...when you have to read fast to keep up with multiple posts you miss some details......!! Not to say I haven't contributed my share ....
Windows--outside is not a problem, it's the inside ones I loathe. My screens are on the inside so they need to be slid out of their grooves, and either vacuumed to get the fuzzies off them or stuck in the shower for a good spray. In order to do that you have to get the blinds all the way up. In doing that I generally notice that they are dusty as well, and require cleaning before the screens come out. The only easy ones are the sliders to the deck, which have numerous nose prints up to about 18 inches. Any wonder that I avoid this chore?
Bal, I'd go to that dinner! I haven't had genuine Scandinavian food anywhere but at home in many years. My Swedish grandmother used to make Lutefisk, and we loved it. We kids ate like farm hands, so almost anything that was on the table made us happy. She also made kroppkokker which is a swedish potato dumpling with seasoned salt pork, onion and nutmeg inside (Darius has already read this in another thread), and now I've got a taste for the dumplings. If there are any left over you can slice them up and fry them for breakfast. I like lefse too, and you can buy it in the supermarkets here occasionally but it's not as good as home made.
Sarv, you worked like crazy today! I made the bed! Ate the last of the rice pudding for breakfast. Went grocery shopping. If you didn't know winter was coming you could tell by my pantry and freezer, they are full to the max. Market had a ten for ten sale, so I stocked up on a lot of staples. Bought some stuffed pork chops for dinner. We've had little flurries all day, hard little stinging pellets carried on an icy breeze. Looked for a jacket but didn't find anything I liked. I have a parka but I'd like something with just a quilted lining when I dont need the big bulky protection. Like a barn coat. Guess I'll try on line.
Cutting brake lines on school busses? What kind of warped mind would think of such a thing? If they ever find who did it they should be charged with the offense as many times as there are seats on every bus, and then be locked up permanently. That is just awful. Do these people not think of consequences? Do they think it is like a video game where you just start over? It boggles the mind.
Hey MG, I can do that disappearing bolderholder (what a name!) thing too, figured it out on a golf course one day when an underwire was conspiring to pierce a lung, and there was no place to hide. Never ever found a sports bra that let me breathe, and I've even gone to the XXL ones, which I'm not quite, and they still don't work for me. I'd be perfectly comfortable without one, and no shoes either. So why, with my flat feet that need arch supports, am I more comfortable barefoot than shod???
I was gonna comment about using the hose indoors too, but since Julie already didn't mention it, I'm going to not mention it too. If anybody else wants to not mention it, we won't mind a bit.
Time to go lean on the heating pad again. It helps a lot. Still don't know what I did. Certainly wasn't hard work.
Edited to upgrade post to # 93, when will I learn to preview???? Edited again when Julie beat me to it.

Casey! NO! Thank YOU!! I've got those plastic skylights in my bathrooms and kitchen...I never thought of ArmorAll!
~julie~
Who just remember she forgot to tell Robert "Thank you" for your comment on the drawing. :-)
Well, I have a confession. I was gonna make a smart remark about the hose in the house also, but thought better of it. I did get sooo excited when y'all were talking about that steam cleaner thingie, though. I said to myself ... self, you could do that! Then, you had to go spoil it and say something about the plants outside ... so I knew that was for the outdoors also. Guess there's just no easy way for inside, huh? Darn it! hehehe
So why couldn't you use it inside? Does it drip a lot of water?
was gonna comment about using the hose indoors too, but since Julie already didn't mention it, I'm going to not mention it too. If anybody else wants to not mention it, we won't mind a bit.
LOL and you wonder WHY I can't get away from here today!??? Please! Don't make me LOL any more! (And you all really shouldn't encourage this mentally unstable multiple personality you're dealing with today. :-D :-D :-D OMG I hope tomorrow I'm *depressed*!!)
~julie~
Answer the drippy question!!!
If She-who-must-not-be-named wants to discuss that-which-we-won't-talk-about who am I to say otherwise?
And I'm not sure I could anyway!
Elaine...I use my steamer indoors! I just put a beach towel down to cover the wood on the bottom of the doors and window...then when I squegee (sp?) the windows anything I don't catch is caught by the towel. No problem!
~julie~
I've had more laughs today from this thread than I've laughed in a long time. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We aim to please! Who are we aiming at again?
Hello Gabby folks, just a quick check in here while I warm up again. 35 degrees with a light wind sure isn't bikini weather!
The school bus thing, gee, what idiots. And no, they don't think about consequences or responsibility for their actions in this "everybody needs to feel good all the time" world we live in. When the parents started getting in trouble for disciplining their own kids we took a giant leap backward.
Great picture, Julie, I sure wish I could draw.
Whoever was using rubbing alcohol on glass... can't remember and too lazy to look..... is that mostly alcohol or mostly water? My windows need washing but it's awfully cold for that now. Could do the insides tho and that would help.
Time to get back to my project.
Whew,
Was gonna TRY and catch up,,,,but,,,no chance of that happening right now,,,have to be back in the Salon in 10 min. I guess I'll check in later tonight when I can sit and read awhile.
I need to get back into the Salon just to rest after Trying to catch up,,,LOL
Kelly
MaryE, that was moi....
I put it in a spray bottle and put in about a 1/2 cup of water per bottle. I do that just to stretch it....you can use it full strength. Just use as windex for about 1/10th the price. When Cinch first came out the ingredients were on the bottle....and I said to myself, "I can do that".......I don't know what I'm going to do with all this money I'm saving....Probably will have the best bed in the nursing home. lol
Now Cinch has removed the ingredients...probably because of people like me....hehehe
Hap
Elaine, I use my steamer on my inside windows everytime. Mine doesn't drip. I dont use general cleaners in my house. When my parents moved in with lung issues I was stuck. So I was quickly introduced to HOT vapor cleaning. It amazes me how much better it works, and my house doesn't have that bleachy, pine-sol, amonia, tinge in the air anymore. I do use the steamer to clean the inside of my pilot though. No flower beds around...
I have seen those small handheld ones. I wonder if they are any good, and if that would work.....
Okay, now for all of you that are entertaining yourselves with the thought of the hose in the house just remember I am one of the youngest here, and long after your gone I am changing the names to suit me. So there.............
I was planning on stew for dinner but I just dont want it now. HHHMMM, whats everyones thoughts on pork loin??? Apple and Bourbon marinade, or maybe a nice mesquite one. Gosh I hate planning dinner.
Edited cause I whined twice.......

That's interesting, Hap. I use a product called Hi-Sheen http://www.alpineglass.com/shop/product.php/id/25SM10 that I get at a glass company. I just looked at the ingredients and #1 is diacetone alcohol. http://www.herdillia.com/htm/diacetone.htm
Becare with using rubbing alcohol near your window sills if the wood is stained and not sealed really well. It will ruin the wood. Speaking from experience here. DH was not impressed with the spotted designs either.....
OMG, Just got home from work and 108 replies already on TODAY's thread which wasn't even up when I checked in this morning. Will read later - off line tonight or tomorrow when I get a new bunch of Internet hours. Have a Food Cupboard BOARD meeting tonight so I'm not sure when I'll find time to get through that many messages. I'm just happy there was nothing wrong with Julie other than a loss of power.
More later.
Ann
And TWO more while I was typing the above............
Oh, Oh......didn't know that Carat....the couple I have a marble so I had no experience.
Darius, is that about the same as isopropanol alcohol? To bad we can't drink it if it doesn't work.......
What kind of steemer are we using on windows? The hand held one to unwrinkle clothes??? I don't know the diff between cream rinse and conditioner? Aren't they the same?
DGS made cookies (the kind you break apart and stick in the oven) Horribly expensive, but he's worth it!! He made 4 of them for us.
Went to the grocery store to get the 48 cent turkey (had to spend $15) I thought I would get one today and go back and get one tomorrow. However, my mind must have been elsewhere as I spend 78 bucks!! Doggone - why wasn't I thinking!!!
DH and DGS brought all the brugs up to the house from the barn. I have a mess upstairs to clean up from them, but it is a good job done for the year!! Wind chills 15 deg tonight. Bring out the long johns!! Who said it was 82 - Im royally jealous of that....
Hey Garden Geek - are you a beautician? If so, what do you think of that Nioxin stuff. Give me the honest truth on it will ya.
I use rubbing alcohol on my glasses- best cleaner there is.
I remember teaching one day with an underwire on and it was making me major grouchy. At recess, I went into the vault, took it off, had the secretary cut out the offending wire, put it on and went back to teaching. Took a long time to live down that one!! Secretary had big mouth!!
I never even saw about the hose inside the house- must be reading too fast!
Four more inches coming tonight. Glad I can sit home and not get out driving!!
does anyone think I can keep up with you guys? Never in a hundred years lol
I know someone who cleaned their house with a hose..............REALLY................
They had no furniture, except some built ins and had a terrazza floor. Each room had a floor drain. Come cleaning time...out came the hose and away she went. I actually saw the house so it's no foolin'.
Those bras can be something sarv...I have had the same problem.
What is Lutefisk ?
First take a dried cod fish, cut into serving pieces and soak in cold water for a week a week.
Next,Drain and refill with lye water (caustic soda) and soak for 3 or 4 days.
Then drain and rinse with clean water, soak another week, changing water daily.
Finally, boil or bake, (but not too long or it will turn to fish glue) and top with white sauce, mustard sauce or melted butter.
Or you can buy it ready to cook in many grocery stores. Delicious with boiled potato, peas and lefsa, followed by rommegrot for dessert. What more could a good Scandahoovian want??????
I don't do windows! well not often.
Casey...Mine isn't as small as the little "Kitchen" cleaner-uppers, but it's not a large one either. It is a Shark II and you carry it over your shoulder for cleaning. (Man! Does it ever clean those textured fridge doors!! Also makes short work of the soap scum in the shower! I sound like a commercial, don't I? LOL)
What's for dinner??? I've got a stuffed roasted chicken in the oven, to serve with plain old mashed taters, gravy, corn and dinner rolls (from a can)! I've already done the pork roast for this week. :-O I left it in the crock pot!! Ewwwwww. Oops! :-D
~julie~
My steamer is a large commercial one. But I dont see why you couldn't use a clothes steamer to do the windows. Just go slowly and use a clean cotton rag to clean with and/or a squeegee (sp?) to finish up.
JetDri is mostly alcohol also. That is why it helps eliminate the water spots....
I am not sure what the difference in cream rinse and conditioner is but don't use conditioner in the window cleaner. What a mess that was, I asked DD to bring me the stuff, I didn't pay attention and that night while watching TV I looked at the light outside and it was an interesting prism. Took me a few times to get it all off. Kind of makes you think about what you are putting on your head..
