Coffee and....For Wednesday Nov 16, 2005
Darius 200 klw
Wow, that's awesome Maria. You should have ALL the comforts in a power outage!
Back from the barn - cut back all the brugs so we can lug them into the house in the snow tonight - yuck!!
Just had a piece of bread from the bread machine- much better cold...cookies still aren't baked. sorry
Finally found some sand paper to finish up some refinishing I started in my kitchen upstairs LOL Gotta get it moved and SOON!
Well, off to the races!!
Well, I made some cookies last nite again and they turned out better. So have a cookie for your morning break all!
I also made a good dinner last nite with potato, gravy, and chicken for my son who was to come home after wrestling practice. Well, who has that dang 2 x 4? I need it. He didn't come home or call until 9:30 pm. Grrrrrr! I was pissed because I had made a nice dinner for him and he decided to go to his girlfriend's house for dinner and homework there!
You all are having snow so keep it back east please. I don't want any yet. Haven't put my studs on my car yet!
I have never had a generator so can't comment on them at all.
I have made bread in the bread machine and have flopped several loaves too. It drives me nuts when I do that, especially when you have company and depend upon it for the meal being served.
I01, send your warm weather up north to us all Please!
M5, thanks for your comments on my father's stain glass lamp. He did make it and it had 1000 pieces in it!
Dcat, hope Mr. B. settles down and will forgive you for all you do for him.
Mg, hope your back starts to feel better. No fun hurting.
I ended up getting a few bulbs in the ground yesterday after work. Just need to get the rest of them in real soon since it is freezed each nite now.
Well, better head to work.
Later, Carol (DR)
I just got out of the shower and am dressed for the day. Oy vey, seems like I never get a chance to just veg out. Oh, well, keeps the old synapses firing in sequence I suppose. One can't veg too long or they turn into one, LOL.
MG, I can't go this time because Mum has been so ill lately. I need to stick around and be here for her. Maybe next trip she will be better and I can leave with a clear conscience. My sister and brother are around, but they PANIC every time something happens to Mum and as it is, I'm Mum's P.O.A. in case anything catastrophic happens. Hopefully I can get her more stable in the next several weeks, then I could accompany hubby on the next trip.
It's icky here today, overcast, grey, grey, grey and more grey. I was hoping for a little more sunlight, but I think I'll have to wait until tomorrow for any of that. I have a new digital camera I'm anxious to try out and wanted to shoot some pretty vista of around here but it will have to wait for another day.
Anyway, GOBs and 'Ettes, I have put out a nice spread of cinnamon/toffee scones, there is a pot of coffee in the maker, some raspberry preserves made this past summer, some currant jelly and butter and cream cheese for any who are interested. Please help yourselves. The cups are in the cupboard above the coffee pot and there are snack plates in the same cupboard. The half and half is in the pitcher and raw sugar in the bowl. If you need sweetener, there's Stevia in the canister.
Top o' the mornin' to ya's! ~Babs~
OK...I'm staying in here and I *am* writing replies this time. Please note that I probably don't have the foggiest idea of what y'all are talking about because everytime I go to read another of my 16-20 watched threads and return to my home page on DG there's been another entry in today's Daily...and a lot of them (Gayle!) are trying to take me prisoner to keep my attention in one place. HERE!! LOL (Of course I *have* to look to see who's posted)
Now...(I started writing at 9:15 a.m. November 16, 2005)
Gayle...thank you for starting the new thread. And thanks for fixing the link so it works. You need more practice.
Sarv...Super! You're getting a generator! We have one that we bought for the River Cabin..so far we've never had to use it. But it's supposed to be big enough to make sure the freezer doesn't thaw, the well works and the up-flush toilet in the basement can be flushed. It's gas powered.
Nathan! You'd better take Gayle's warnings seriously...TRUST me!
Gayle said "Remind me again why we need them" ...ok...they're FUN!
Sheila...I'm going to have to go back into yesterday's thread to find out what you said there...but until then...HI!! (Oh and to the next post LOL)
Hi Elaine...the weather isn't bad until those of us living in it can't get on the internet to tell YOU about how *bad* it is. LOL (ooo sorry...you're probably sleeping now. julie tippy toes out quietly...NOT!!!) :-)
Gayle...school's out..."Sucks to be you!" (hehehehehe)
Happy...Hi there! good to see you out and about on such a nasty day in *our* neighborhood. ~winky~ (That was for Elaine...)
Sarv...I agree with your DH "Earl" is S-t-u-p-i-d!!! (but then, so is
W-r-e-s-t-l-i-n-g ...so he hasn't got a right to talk. hehehe)
Sheila...good thing you aren't brave enough to go any farther with those scissors...LOL...do you really want to tick off our 'local' beauticians?
Gayle...those contraptions were designed to ENHANCE our appearance...we aren't supposed to disregard a MALE engineering feat like that!
LOL@ Sarv...I thought we were supposed to wear LONG johns to keep warm! (OH I forgot...Kelly, on my trip to the school in my fantastic 'outfit' I was wearing THOSE too!)
julie...you really need to let people know ALL the things that could stand in the way of getting the Daily posted on time. tsk tsk tsk (shame on you!)
Sarv...putting a link in a thread is really easy. I think someone else already explained it. (:-)) I did a shortcut...I did a chort cut!)
Gayle & Gayle ...you two are SO funny! Can't remember to get it all in one post,eh? LOL It's windy now...and the snow is just really fine grains that sting when you get hit with them.
Maria!! Super! See...it's not all the hard after all, is it? (I know about those DH's who "don't get in the middle" of an altercation with "the parents". I have one who wouldn't stand up for me when I got slapped by SIL at Easter dinner...just because she didn't like me (Honest!) and then I overheard my DIL tell her that she shouldn't have done that because, after all..."You're a Christian...and Julie isn't." (yea...right! And where was hubby...? Telling me NOT to say another word! ARGH!!! That was probably 40 years ago...and NOPE I have *not* forgiven him!
Sorry about that people...I'll get back to my responses now.
Julie! You really need to stop writing so much in your posts...no one really cares that you sleep in your chair after supper. tsk tsk tsk When will you ever learn?
Hi again, Maria. :-)
Sarv...I know you weren't talking to me, but you really need to learn how to start new threads. Maybe we could get you to the test forum and practice with you there.
Kelly...Hi THERE!! :-D Cool pic! Literally!! LOL
Darius said:
The neighbor on the other side and I managed to take power off the generator and run our refrigerators for 3 days.
COOL!! Good thinking on your part! No sense letting it go to waste. And Good Morning to you!
Babs! Hi! I just hate it when new cars don't act new! Glad to hear your Mom is doing well...it's nice that you can be with her as often as you are. And you'll have to show us your teapot when hubby returns! (Can I place an order, too? LOL)
Julie...do you realize how many times you've posted already this morning? You'd think you're runnining this show or something. Honestly, girl...slow DONW!! (Oh...you're pic is "cool" too.)
Gayle the cell phone numbers aren't listed but... maybe 555-1212 ("We'll connect your call for an additional charge of one dollar") can get them for you next time your doing research. LOL
....coffee out time.....
(9:54 a.m.) BRB
I'm back now.........9:56 a.m.
Where was I? (Changes window to see what's next)...
~sigh~ Julie...you did it again! (Just be QUIET!!)
OH no!! Two posts right together! Give someone else a chance to talk...Please!
Hi again, Maria!
Kelly...I know the mental picture of OUR outfits is going to live in infamy (sp?) for a long time to come. (We're like peas in a very weird POD! LOL)
Gayle...yep! I know where Hazel Green is...poor town....to have such a native daughter as you claiming to grow up there. ROTFLOL (Keep it up and by the end of the day I'll *have* you in my sights!)
Sarv...are those cookies ready yet? In the time I've been writing I'll bet you already ate the first batch! :-|
Darius...you're right on the money. We definitely need to have our priorities straight and have those things we'll need in the future ready and waiting. (But on the funny side...Why do you think my basement is FILLED with sewing supplies that I bought "while I had the money". hehehe)
Julie...I'm really getting tired of having to answer you! You're *everywhere!*
Gayle...I got my order in first!
Gayle...Yes?
Gayle...I already said "yes?" Is there something you wanted?
~sigh~ Julie...need I say more?
Ok...it's 10:07 a.m. Going to preview this before I send it.....
Hi again, Maria and Darius
Sarv...pass a slice of that bread over here...and GET those COOKIE baked!!
Hi Carol!! Don't ya just hate it when you make a nice meal and the ones who are expected to eat it don't show up? Honestly, Kids! You'd think they could at least call. :-)
Sarv...skip the cookies...I'm eating Babs' scones instead!
Thanks Babs! They're terrific. Nice to see you got into and out of the shower while I writing. LOL
It's now 10:13 a.m. I've previewed the post to make sure no one else has entered the room...so I think I'm safe to hit send.
~julie~
Now, aren't you glad I *don'* write just one post for the whole day?? LOL & LOL
See, I really *DO* read each and every post!
OH JULIE, YOU ARE A RIOT!
Carol? Are you mentioning my name so I will have to post another response? hehehe
~julie~
ROFLOL
LOL @ Elaine!!
(Kelly...I told you to be careful. hehehe julie pats Kelly on the head...GOOD Girl!!)
~julie~
LOL
Julie was that me you were talking to or the other one? I'll mention your name again antway just in case Julie.
Thanks for the kind words about the shade Y'alls. It isn't difficult at all, just takes a long time adn rewards you with tiny holes in the ends of your fingers!!!
This virus is still loitering so will go back and get my head down again, the world insists on doing a loop the loop around my head every so often. Not the best way to lose weight - but my pants all but slipped off this morning. All Butt - not quite, for which small mercy I'm sure the world is grateful ;>))))))

Did anyone else notice that Julie is posting to herself and then answering herself?
Just found out WHY school was cancelled. It wasn't the weather. The buses were vandalized. Every single brake line was cut on every single bus. GRRRRRR Both of my kids walk, but the majority of the kids are bussed. I wonder how long it will take before they are back up and running? This is not going to be a fast process. What a waste of money too. Our schools are struggling enough as it is. I'm on the SITE Council, and I know just how tight our budget is this year. GRRR again!
Carol...the english one...I typed Foffee...not T-offee. hehehe (and nope it wasn't you as the "Carol" this time...is was DR (geez...maybe I need to go bake (another typo...and this time it insn't for lack of T-offee! LOL)
Sorry folks...these nails are really screwing me up...got any manicurists in the crowd?
Gayle...speaking of vandelism...last week someone slashed what they thought were my DS and DIL's cars tires. They were wrong...they got the KIDS tires! DS found out who did it and why...and it *was* directed at *him*. Two days later the guy who did it died! (a 40 y/o drug addict from our neighborhood...yep...drug overdose!)
~julie~
P.S. Has anyone noticed that Julie is answering her own response? Yep...have to! She mentioned my name! :-D
PPS...has anyone noticed that since I uploaded my "book" that DG is really SLOW? hehehe
Good morning everyone. Just a quick thought or two.
Ummm, scones, yes please and thank you, Babs.
Methinks Julie has cabin fever already. It's gonna be a long winter.
Carol (DR) I would also be upset with a kid that doesn't know how to use a phone! I hope you ate his dinner for him.
My farrier is coming this morning and I have to go catch 2 horses that are 1/2 a mile down in the far end of the pasture before he gets here. So, I will have a nice walk on this frosty morning.
See you later, have a great day.
sheesh, can't keep up with any of you!
Ok, they just did a news brief on the buses. So far 28 of the 78 buses have been verified to have been cut. They were cut in such a way as to fail once they were out on the road. 2 of the buses were were out on the road, and BOTH WERE CARRYING KIDS when the brakes failed!!!! Thanks to the excellent drivers, there were no major injuries, just bumps and bruises and scared kids.
This is no longer JUST a vandalisim issue, this is now attempted murder of our children!
I will send links when the news channels are updated, righ now they aren't on the net yet.
I am so mad and just so sick at the thought of what could have happened!
mg
What can one say to this horrid vandelism? Why? Why ?
Mary...
Methinks Julie has cabin fever already. It's gonna be a long winter.
Cabin fever...nope! Not yet!
Long Winter...hmmmm more than likely! And aren't you all lucky to be part of this group? LOL
Maria...just copy and paste MY post...you won't *have* to keep up anymore! (Hey! That's a good idea!! LOL)
Gayle...I'm pi$$ed just thinking of what *could* have happened. I hope they find and prosecute those involved in THAT little escapade. It would have been fatality for certain had it happened to our buses. We got a LOT of ridge roads our buses travel on...and they're dangerous enough without a bunch of A$$H***s doing something that like...I'm *really* ticked!
~julie~
Okay, Hi and Good Morning. My that moon is in full swing even during the day with you all.
Elaine, I would do your windows if you were closer. I hate doing them also, but I would because you asked....
Sarv, I have two generators. The first I bought for my parents as an emergency back for moms oxygen when they still lived in the old house. It was a 3600w and could handle her concentrator, the TV, frig/freezer and a portable heater or air conditioner. With it all plugged in she would have about 10-12 hours on a 5 gallon tank. When my parents moved in with us, I need more assurance so we purchased a 7500w. The small handled all the medical equipment and mom and dads TV. The 7500w handled our entire house (we are complete elec. no gas) for 16 hours on a 10 gallons. We can hook up the large one outside to the main breaker with a jump box, but the small one goes outside and we have cords all over getting to it. The small one was about 300.00 6 years ago. The big one was around 1500.00. They are both Craftman from Sears, and we have never had a problem with either one....
Hey those with the pictures, what is that white stuff??? Now to you all this is nothing, but it was 46 outside last night at 11:00. Really weird. Usually not until Jan or Feb do we get there. Going to be a weird weather winter.
MG- I am glad that someone figured out a problem was there before someone was seriously hurt. What a horrific thing to do. I just don't understand it.
CARAT....5 gallons of what? I'm considering a permanent one with automatic start for the entire house. You said you have 7500w and that does your whole shebang......How did you decide how much wattage you needed?
Hap
Mg, that has to be the worst thing I think I have ever heard in my life. To put kids in danger like that!!! Not acceptable! Hope they catch who did it and they get life sentance.
Julie, I mention your name because I agree with Mary. It is going to be a very very long winter already for you and it isn't even Thanksgiving yet!
Guess at this rate, we will have to have a hourly forum since you guys can't even be good for the daily forum now!!! lol
Carol (DR)
Uh....Ummmmm....I guess I've been *little* overwhelming here this morning, huh. Oh well... :-D
(I wish I could upload a sound file for the music that goes along with Roger Whittaker's "Emily" ....Lala-la-la-lala-la-la-lah....(You have to imagine a little girl skipping down the road to that music...and it fit ME perfectly today. LOL)
~julie~
Carat - thanks for the info on the generator - I jotted it all down. My aunt just called and their power has been out for over 12 hrs. They are in their late 80's and thank goodness have a generator! T here are tons of places shutting down here and they are telling people not to go on the roads unless necessary. I have to go in to pick up DGS and need to stop at the grocery too - taking back roads w/ my cell phone handy!!
I can't believe idiots would cut the brake lines of school buses. Prosecute them to the fullest - what a horrendous thing to even think about doing! In the system where I worked some joker set them all on fire - the entire fleet went up in smoke. The surrounding communites shared buses (there was only a couple of weeks left of school) Never did catch the person that did it - lots of speculation (in fact I had the kid in class whose dad was thought to have done it) This same guy set his own parents house on fire (with them in it) and was finally put in jail. Justice finally.
Geese Louise Julie- take a drink of something strong to settle yourself down!!
No cookies yet- I went to get the ingredients, phone rang, and I decided to clean out the pantry while I was on the phone. My gosh, you wouldn't believe the junk I have - over 30 cans of tomato sauce, 20 or so of kidney beans and the same with refried beans. I have probably 25 boxes of cake mix that I am going to toss out (years old!!) Things are pretty well organized, and I am happy with the job I got done while talking -multi-tasking again!!
Did someone say scones??? Shoot, I think I wrote the receipe down...needed cake flour if I remember correctly...gotta go look in the receipe box.
still snowing here, but not sticking....
Happy~ 5 gallons of gasoline. We dont have the option of propane here. And natural gas is not in my area. We can switch to propane or natural gas when we move with only a few minor modifications to either unit. But I am sure they will be costly. It always is...
My neighbors father was an electrician and when we were getting mom and dads he told us what to get and where. We went with Craftman again for the large one because we never had a problem with the smaller one. We went through the house and wrote down the amount of power each item we felt we would need on a piece of paper. Added it all up and got the next size larger. We had a sheet that listed the wattage that each item would use. I will look for it or see if DH will remember where we got it from....
Sorry...Hi Casey! :-)
~julie~
and a little "P.S." That's *me* in the drawing. Or at least *one* of the little people that live inside my head when I have a pencil and paper in front of me. (The "Jody" is my nick name...it's all I was ever called until my parents passed away.)
What a bunch of chatterboxes! My lunch break is almost done and I just got caught up.
MG - I hope they catch whoever did that. The person (or persons) should get charged with 1 count of attempted murder for each child that was on the bus. Crimes that involve children just get me over the edge. No punishment is too severe.
It's very windy here today. We should be getting the front coming through with thunder showers about the time I leave work. Should be a fun commute home.
DR - my son pulled a simlar stunt last night. I talked to him around 6:00 and thought he was coming home to eat. He didn't come in until around 10:00. Little booger!
I can't begin to address everyone, but everyone have a good afternoon and save me some cookies and scones please. I'll be back later!
Well a big Hello and Good Morning to you also Julie....
MG that is a truely terrible thing to have done. With the weather the way it is that could have been a massacre. I really hope they throw the book at the perp when they catch him/her, even if they did "have a troubled childhood." There is no excuse for that at all.
Julie lovely drawing, reminds me very much of the Mabel Lucy Attwell drawings that adorned many of my books as a little one, The Water Babies, Peter Pan and Wendy and Alice in Woenderland spring to mind, but there were several others. You have talent Julie, do you use it?
Carol
The English One
I hate watching these morning shows. I always get so hungry. They are forever cooking on them now a days.
MG I think your bus problem made our local news. I didn't catch it but I saw them showing snow and a yard full of buses. I will see if it comes back on....
SusieQ...you are SO wrong...LOL There aren't a *bunch of chatterboxes...only ONE! *me* :-D And I'm really trying to behave myself now. (I said *trying*! What do expect when I get a "manic" episode? And it's snowing which means that NOW I can finally settle down to 'inside stuff'...)
Carol (okus) (see I know who I'm talking to...hehehe)
Thank you...that's quite a compliment you gave me. I'm always surpised when I look back at my drawings and poetry...it's like someone else did them. I guess, in a way, someone 'else' really does do that stuff. Most of my drawings, paintings, and poetry were done during very stressful times in my life. Times when nothing else seemed to be able to get 'through' to me about how I was feeling on the inside. Now that I know what I feel and I'm not afraid to face 'me' I don't do much of anything except what makes me happy. :-)
Hmmmm sound like we made a 'breakthrough' here...doesn't it. LOL
~julie~
P.S. I'm doing laundry now and have had lunch and cleaned one of the bathrooms. Now it's time to head for the basement to water plants and plan the strategy for CLEANING it! (Yep...definitely manic!)
Julie.....that's absolutely outstanding. I agree with okus..I hope you use your talent....that would be terrible not to share that with someone. How about us for a start......
Thanks for the info CARAT.....that will be start.
Sarv....why is all the electricity going out?
Hap
Julie- YOU drew that!! Man, I'm impresssed! I've always wanted to draw, but everything I try comes out looking stilted. (and ugly)
Well, gals - no cookies here- just ran out of time. But I did just finish a bag of fake oreos (no white stuff and only 100 calories)
I actually got quite a bit accomplished today. Let me list it so "I" can feel good.
made two beds
dishes
organized pantry
sanded two pieces of furniture, put finishing coat on both
cut back over 20 brugs
brought all african violets down under lights (a major chore)
Oh man, that's not much when I see it down in black and white. Oh, talked on the phone for a couple of hours...shame on me..
happy 1 - very high winds is all I can figure out - third bout of them this month. Areas where they are going out is where there are loads of old old trees. Plus a rash of accidents taking down power poles (first icy road of the season always causes a mess here)
Sheesh - I gotta get off here!
Or, should we do the 'back door thing?'
~giggle~
Sarv...I think it's too late for the 'back door thing'...this is going to be the longest SINGLE Coffee and...thread yet. :-D
~julie~
I'm leaving now....really!
Sure you are JULIE!!!
Have been away all morning, and took me over an hour just to read what was going on. I went to the grocery for DM, DMIL, and myself, to chiropractor, and of Course Walmart, cant' live without them. Am making some dishes for a pot luck tonight, a TG meal at a former pastor's church. So am busy now, will be away later, and will check in when we get in later tonight. You all should be hoarse enough by then, I can catch up quite quickly!!LOL. Just think if this was talking instead of typing. Ears would be hurting.
