Here it is!! Morning everyone. I asked a question about a generator -I 'll repeat it here as it is important (to me)

Getting one for xmas - anyone have any hints on what kind/power to get?? We're clueless

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Brr it is COLD! I got this from my local station:

Wednesday: Snow ending early…Blustery and cold with temps dropping through the afternoon.
High: 28 dropping to 20 in the afternoon Wind: NW 15-30 Gusting 45 Windchill 2F

We ended up with about 3.5 inches of snow, but it is blowing all over the place. The dogs are running around and jumping the drifts in the backyard. I just wanna crawl back into my nest on the couch. No school delay. I'm surprised. Nathan is being a bear too today, but if he doesn't get out of bed in the next 5 minutes, he will be a cold wet bear! I give him 2 warnings, then I dump Ice water on him. I don't have to do that very often, rofl!!!

M5,

My dh is like that, doesn't know if I'm PO-ed at all unless I throw something at him, but I'm supposed to be able to interpret every single grunt, groan and sigh.

Severe cases of testosterone poisoning!

Remind me again why we need them?

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Good morning....I posted in yesterday's thread, but wanted to answer Sarv's question. When we built, we thought it would be good to have a generator as a back up. All our power lines in the subdivision are underground, but along the highway, they are not, so losing power is an ever present possibility. We bought a big one, a Honda, 10,000 watts, mostly because we have a host of electrical needs. Refrigerator, Freezer, Garage doors, computers, furnace fan, water pump.......can't say how well it works because other than starting it up occasionally to make sure it will run, we haven't had to use it. I have no idea what they cost now.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

MG, Oil changes, heavy lifting, roof climbing.....that's it, I'm dry.

Oh my goodness MG. Can't believe your weather. It sounds like something in a movie to me. It's already 68 degrees here this morning and will probably make the 80's before the day is over. I think snow would be fun for a couple of days, but don't think I could handle it for long. I'd freeze to death!
Well, the DH and his pot of grits are both gone. Me and the baby are going back to bed. Will see y'all in a couple hours.

Nathan just walked back in the door. School was cancelled. It wasn't on the TV or the radio! The groundskeeper at Jenna's school (across the street) just quit shoveling the playground steps.

The school closing just appeared on the crawl on the bottom of the TV screen. I wonder how many other kids walked to school or are at bus stops waiting? Never seen them cancel so late!

Great, now I have kids home again, sigh.

Good Morning all.......hope all are safe and well.

M5. what powers your gen? I am considering one about that size and powered by propane...I have the propane already, for I had it put in for my stove. (I love cooking on gas)

Dang, I just cannot get a thing done!! If I'm not on here, I'm on the phone. DId manage to get two beds made and dishes done, but that's it!!

All of a sudden tummy is rolly polly - ate a granola bar to settle it down. Outta diet coke - need to make a pop run!

Speaking of full moons - first DS was born on a full moon - first nasty stay at home snow storm too! No wonder he has been such a pill all his life!! He's coming to dinner tonight- I'll have to share that with him!!

When DH got up this morning, I asked him how come he went to bed so early (8:30) and he told me 'I just couldn't stand that program you were watching (Earl)" Now this spoken from a man who watches 'big time wrestling' 2x a week at 2 hrs each time. What a dork. I think we are working up to a BIG ONE!! It's holiday time and it brings out the worse in both of us...

Washed my hair this morning and before I knew what was happening, I took the scissors and started chopping!! Full moon you say???? LOL - other than SHORT bangs, it doesn't look too ugly!!

Seeing some snow flurries amongst the rain drops. Many of our city schools are closed today due to power outages.

Gotta a sports bra on and it is COMING OFF NOW....driving me absolutely crazy.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

It runs on gas, not sure what grade, DH does that sort of thing. We have natural gas so no storage for propane. How would you get your propane to the generator, a separate hose? Or fill a tank like you do for BBQ grill?

Sarv, I took the scissors to my hair a couple days ago too.....just shortened the bangs so they wouldn't hang in my eyes. Not brave enough to do more than that!!!

Maybe DH is sensitive to the characters in Earl, who I imagine would be big time fans of wrestling!! LOL

Sarv, I don't wear a bra unless I have to. And since I'm not going out in public, I don't have to! ROFL!

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

mg- put it on for warmth today - I'd rather freeze than have my shoulders ache- who'd want an implant-- not me!!

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Thanks GAYLE!!!

SOrry folks, I forgot to tell you that when it snows we *can* lose our satellite internet connection. ROTFLMBO

Guess what! It snowed! We lost internet connection, the weather channel, HBO, etc. etc.!

Now, Gayle...you have to go back and fix that link at the top of this thread. :-D It does't work. If your'e going act like Julie, then you MUST have a real link. It doesn't much matter where it goes...but it has to work! LOL

~julie~

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Is doing a link hard????

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

I fixed it, I just copied yours from yesterday, which in retrospect should have sent them to Monday. Hey, at least I got the thread started on one cup of coffee! You want perfection, I need the whole pot first!

ROFLMBO!

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

No Sarv, you just go up to the addy bar of the old thread and hi-lite it, copy and paste it where you want it in the new thread. I just tried to cheat, lol. Next time I will do it right, but I hope Julie doesn't need me to do that anytime soon!

How is the weather now Julie? Did you get much snow?

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

I really do not poohpooh it either, M5, just thast I am not certain about it, I remember fil used to say, you will have this baby when the moon is full, lol, well never had one when this was the case and I had 4 of them. Was always turned into my DH moods, but he was the quiet type, very seldom complained about any thing and when he did I would get very upset to think I did some thing wrong. I remember one thing very clearly after we were married a few weeks, I told him something about what his mother said to me that upset me, he said, to me, if you have a problem with either one of my parents, YOU have it out with them, do not ever put me in the middle, now that was telling me, lo, and I never did complain about them again
Had cottage cheese with pineapple for supper, big deal!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

I did it, I did it, thanks Julie, did not know how to copy things either

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Gayle, you should have seen me try to get to the computer before I *had* my first cup! LOL (Not a pretty sight, let me tell ya!)

Last night (as usual) after supper I fell asleep in my chair. That was about 5:30-6:00. When I woke up Dh tells me we can't get our regular Tuesday night TV shows...so, thinking nothing of it, we watched Encore (Last of the Mohicans). The we tried to change the channel to local news to watch the weather...UH oh...not there. Actually, I think we were lucky our receiver somehow got stuck on the movie cuz there was *nothing* there when we tried to get that channel back.

So I came over here to my computer desk thinking I could just get online, get my Daily started and...... and....... OH NO!!! They're going to think I had a heart attack!! (LOL I didn't even THINK about the possibility of Gayle calling the rescue squad which *would* have gotten my DIL out of a cozy bed! :-O LOL)

I stayed up until after 2 this morning hoping that maybe, because the the snow was melting really fast, the internet dish would clear itself.

Obviously it didn't! LOL

First thing this morning...grabbed my cuppa and headed to the desk, (ooops....I *didn't* get to the bathroom! Brb)

......Whew! THAT feels better! LOL

I opened up DG and TOP thing on my "Welcome Page" is the Dmail list..."

sarv, am waiting for a generator I ordered, hope it comes soon. It will be propane, we do not have natural gas, I have only electricity for everything, A tank will be installed with pipes leading to the generator

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

So Maria, how did you know which one to get? Ours will have to be a 'gas' one.

mg- starting the new thread still doesn't make any sense to me - I am a knucklehead when it comes to computers. If you were sitting right by my side I probably could figure it out!! Get your fanny over here..

Sarv... generators come in 2 kinds: portable, and permanent. They run on either regular gas, natural gas or propane gas. The portables come in all sizes from enough power to run a whole house down to just enough power to run small home medical equipment like oxygen. Plus, you can get electric start generators, or one you have to pull the cord to start. Here's a link with lots of information. http://www.dom.com/products/generators/index.jsp

The neighbors at the house where I stayed last summer had a permanent, propane generator because he was on home dialysis before he died.

When the neighborhood was wthout power for 5 days last year from hurricane Ivan, I walked out on my deck and heard their generator running, automatic start-up in power failures. (The house was actually vacant as the wife had just gone to a nursing home.) The neighbor on the other side and I managed to take power off the generator and run our refrigerators for 3 days.

GM! Kaffee Klatchers!

I'm up & about, hubby's already at work and I've got errands to run today. I have to take hubby's pickup to the dealership to have the windshield checked out. It makes horrible noises above 48 mph and it's a brand new vehicle! I'm sure it must be a loose frame or something like that, but hey, after what we pay for vehicles these days, it'd best be in perfect condition, right?

I have to make a commissary run (I despise grocery shopping) and need to check on Mum. I'm over there most every day and at least every other day for sure. Since she's been back in hospital recently, I'm there most every day. Bless her, she's 95 now and still popping back. I hope I can be just as tough as she if I live that long.

Speaking of the full moon, I'm soooooo grateful I'm off this week. Last weekend was bad enough working up to the full moon. The foofoo bunnies were coming out of the woodwork. Between the holidays coming up and the full moon, it takes it's toll on those who are affected.

I'm shortly to grab a shower and get my day under way. Hubby is leaving for Germany on Sunday. He's going to check on his forward deployed troops in SEMBACH. I've already got my request in with him for a pretty painted tea pot. Next trip I'm going to accompany him.

I pray everyone has a wonderful day. Those of you dealing with inclement weather, make sure you bundle up warmly and take care to be safe if you have to leave your homes. Those of you who don't have to put a bolder holder on today, DON'T! I despise the things and as soon as I walk in my house, I get rid of mine! For those of you who don't have to suffer such accoutrement....*good on you!*

As ever,
~Babs~

We only got about 3" of snow here and, from the looks of it, most of that melted before the temps dropped and the wind started blowing.

Below is a pic I took last night about 11:00...I just loved the BIG white spot in the picture...that was one of those HUGE snowflake clumps! hehehe

Richland Hospital,
Boscobel Hospital,
U of WI Madison Hospital,

And Montfort Rescue If I have to!

Encyclopedia Darius (how do you know all these things!!)

I went to the sight and bookmarked it. They looked mighty pricey!! I was thinking about $1000. We see them all the time in the paper, so maybe DH will look there.

Continuing crappy weather here...maybe making some cookies will make me happier!!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Maria, how many Kilowatts are you getting?

As we get older and less able, it pays in the long run to have a good system.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Sarv, don't forget I grew up in Hurricane Alley. We even had a propane refrigerator for power outages. (And they still make them!)

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Kelly...BLAZE Orange!!! Now I needed to be wearing THAT when I went to the school...would have made the "outfit" totally unforgetable! LOL

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Hey Babs! Great to hear from you.

I have been known to remove my bra in the car as soon as I leave where ever I was, lol. I can get one off from under a tee shirt, sweatshirt and jacket without taking anything off.

How come you don't get to go to Germany this trip? How often does he have to go? I wish I could get over there for the Cristmarket (Christmas Market), I have these matching red coffee cups with all of our names engraved in them, and I want to get one for Jenna too. And the glass tree decorations are so pretty! When I went to Checkaslovakia (before it split) I got some pretty crystal Christmas decorations too.

I have to go outside and fill up the birdfeeders, I'll be back in a bit.
