spring 'Secret Easter Bunny' trade

Denver, CO

Isn't it amazing how fast this has come up? It won't be long before we are all E-mailing Jill and putting boxes in the mail! Now where are all of those other folks who are in this ordeal...?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Hi Spider which plant ? One Jill posted ?

Lilburn, GA

Violet, the one on the main page African Violet Discussion Forum. where the threads are located or it you follow this thread, it is the first one, at the bottom of the first post. thank you!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Ok guess I can't help you with this

Silver Spring, MD

I think it is one of the Little Indian Series from Optimara but I can't remember which. Jill with log in soon and she will post the name.

Lilburn, GA

thank you peeps!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I think the AV in the photo at the top of the thread has an Optimara look-alike, but I purchased it as a NOID (No Official ID). I call it 'Purple Bouquet', and it's one of my favorites... and yes, I've got a couple of little plantlets started, so Spider please Dmail me if you're interested in trading.

:-)

Hi
How is eveyone ! Have not seen a few of you for awhile :(( Missing you all ! How are your babies growing ! Anyone need help . Would anyone like to add or change their wish list make them a little longer :))

Crossville, TN(Zone 6b)

Is this the thread where I make changes? I thought we started one just for this reason; but, when you mentioned this before I could not find it. Linda

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Linda I think the other one was started by Lorry for the second swap in May ? I may be totaly wrong ?
Now Jill was mentioning today about starting one. Where people can add , change to their list or also instead of just names post their tyoes they like. She was also saying people could post what they have so we can send different. Help Jill where are you !

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Nanna started a new thread for progress reports on the Secret Easter Bunny Trade and the May Secret Trade.... Show us photos of your plantlets here http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/581256/

Meanwhile, you can edit your wish list post on this thread if you like... but while I'm sure your bunny will check here for changes, there's not much time left before this trade for them to acquire a variety from your new list. I think the wish lists are a great way of giving people even a general idea of what sort of AVs you might especially love... I'm not expecting to get anything specific from my list, but I figure my Bunny knows I love Buckeyes and girl foliage minis.

I think it might be really useful to post a list of what you have in your collection, so I started a new thread for this, http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/581728/. Please, everyone just post once to this thread and then edit your posts as needed... if you have comments or questions, please put them on a different thread so this one stays easy to refer to.

:-)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Thanks Jill. I am going crazy not having the plants my secret pal wants and no one with Winter shipping to get them :(( But I have many others my Secret Pal may enjoy !

Silver Spring, MD

You know, Guys, the excitment and fun is getting there. I'm enjoying this whole experience. I will treasure what ever comes and remember the joy of sharing.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Absolutely.

Wish lists tend to be pretty random, anyway, so use them more as an indicator of what your Easter Buddy likes than as a specific "I must get them this!" sort of thing. I know I didn't search through the thousands of AV cultivars, systematically ordering my preferences, in order to arrive at a wish list! Besides, my preferences tend to change... I get a new shelf, and I'm more willing to try to make room for another large standard... I add a couple more pink AVs to my collection, and suddenly I'm concentrating on blue ones...

Any AV that my Bunny loves enough to grow & share with me will delight me too, I'm sure!

Crossville, TN(Zone 6b)

OK, I am changing general info not giving any cultivar names. linda

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Thanks Linda your not mine of course. lol But things like this help me if people do this !

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

no, no... I'm sorry I wasn't clear! Linda, go right ahead and list as many cultivar names on your wish list as you like! I only meant that folks shouldn't fret if they don't have varieties that are specifically on their Easter Buddy's list!

Crossville, TN(Zone 6b)

Jill I understood you. After looking at my wish list I can't think of what I would wnat different other than leaning toward doubles. Linda

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Status report! :-)

On Friday, I Dmailed anyone who hadn't reported that they were good to go over on the Peter Cottontail thread or elsewhere... I still have 2 people who haven't responded yet and who haven't posted on the AV forum for a bit, but I found a post from one on Feb 9 and a post from the other just yesterday, so I'm not too concerned. Hopefully they'll Dmail me soon to let me know how they're doing and if they've run into any problems.

Everyone else is good to go and very excited about packing up their Bunny boxes!

:-D

Jill
Can we ship April 15 to end of April incse it's cold snowing places or people need the time ?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Allison, the April 1 to April 15 time frame has always been "weather permitting." We can make last minutes adjustments as necessary... but please keep me informed of when you ship and if you need to delay for any reason. If you think that you will need extra time, please Dmail me now and let me know. So far, nobody has told me they need extra time.

I know that life happens sometimes, so if you're one of the two people who just got a "bump" from me in their Dmail box, please let me know what's going on whether or not you're on track. We can always figure something out to make sure that everyone will get a box.

I'm trying to keep on top of this so that everyone will either (hopefully!) receive a box by April 15 or will have a Dmail from me explaining that there has been a delay and saying when they can expect a Bunny Box. I know we've already addressed a couple of logistical problems with timing... Dmailing me with that sort of thing rather than posting helps keep the Bunnies secret, and so far everything is working out fine!

This is also a good time to say... please, everyone go up to the first post and re-read the rules for the trade in case there are any questions about what to include, when to ship, how to ship, etc.

I'm so excited!!

Thanks to all our participants!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I could swear I used Rob's shipping dates to set the time for this trade... But Allison mentioned it, and I checked, and he isn't starting spring shipping (priority mail rather than express mail) until April 15.

There are a couple other logistical things that have come up for our April dates (I've been juggling arrangements via private Dmail to make sure it would all work out)... I am tempted to leap over all of it by changing the date for this swap to the first week in May. Hopefully, that would not cause confusion by putting it at the same time as the Secret Swap that Lorry is organizing. ?

I'll send out Dmails to see if shipping or receiving during the first 2 weeks of May would be a problem or not for anybody.... PLEASE respond asap so we can figure this out!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

PS. I'm planning to be away the last week or two in April, so delaying shipping until the week of the 15th may not allow me to be available to take care of anything that may come up... That's why, if we delay, I want to delay for a month.

We did do a little logistical juggling already for a couple of folks who weren't available earlier in April, but that seemed to be working out fine. Maybe we are overreacting to the possibility of cold weather.... we could always shift the date in a couple of weeks if it looked like spring had not yet "sprung" all over the country.

The main thing that's bumming me out about the possibility of delaying the swap is that Easter is April 16, so delaying until the week of May 1 makes it rather less of a Secret Easter Bunny swap....

I still want Dmail feedback, just so we know if the proposed delay will cause more problems than it solves.

Thanks!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Jill why would delay make it not secret ? it should be fine.
Or we could always d a month check on people's zip codes to see how the weather in the coldest area will be. will be . Most people don't have thick insulation and heat packs . What do you think ?

in Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

What about the last week in March? What do you think Jill?
Patti

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Allison, the delay wouldn't make it not secret.... LOL... but it would mean the "Easter Bunny" would be arriving two or three weeks after Easter, which is April 16 this year.

Patti, I think the last week in March really might be a little too cold yet in many areas... but again, we can check the forecasts. We may end up orchestrating a longer time frame for sending, depending on weather forecasts and on who will be home when.

Thanks to those of you who responded quickly... I want to leave this date question up in the air for as brief a time as possible, and it helps to know what will work for whom, when!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Okay! There are 2 people who haven't checked in with me yet, but so far May is "bad" for 1 person and "better" for 6... I am going to officially change the shipping date for this trade to the first week in May. There will be two boxes shipped in April (whenever weather permits) to & from the person who cannot do the trade in May, and the people involved have been Dmailed.

Thanks, everyone, for your understanding & cooperation, as well as your enthusiasm!

Please try to mail your box on May 1 or 2 (Monday or Tuesday) if at all possible so that it will arrive before the weekend. I have had quicker deliveries mailing on Saturday (box is just in transit on Sunday) than mailing on Thursday or Friday... we want to minimize the time that your plants are boxed up, so it may be better to mail your box on Monday the 8th than on Friday the 5th if you encounter a delay.

Please, take a minute right now to scroll up to the top of this thread and re-read the instructions for this trade. I will edit that post with the new dates. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns -- Dmail is better for any specific questions of timing etc that could give away your secret identity. :-)

Here's the main thing... Send me D-Mail to let me know when you have shipped your box, and give me the Priority Mail Confirmation Number. Let me know if you encounter any problems or delays.

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

LOL.Laurie.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Chocolate.... mmmm.... what a good idea! I'll have to think of an appropriate Easter goodie to include in my Bunny Box... hey, just because we aren't mailing them out until after Easter doesn't mean they shouldn't include a treat! And chocolate is more traditionally associated with Easter than with May Day. :-)

In case anyone else is thinking along these lines... is anyone allergic to chocolate? or nuts?

morehead, KY(Zone 6a)

Hello Everyone!
My computer needed to be rebuilt so i have been off for awhile. I am so ready and i think my bunny will get everything they asked for, i hope. Just wanted to check in. I can't wait for May!
