Does anyone need any help with their leaves, babies . Please let us know if you need any help growing were all here for you to make this the Best Easter Bunny Swap ever ! I'm excited !
**** This thread is for the first Easter Bunny Swap . All registered Bunnies names are up top of this thread .
Any new info Jill :))

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'm doing fine here! I've got a good long list of varieties I think my Easter buddy will adore, and I've got plantlets or at least ears coming along on many of them! I'll have to post some new pictures on my "basement babies move uptown" thread, as I've managed to nearly fill another shelf with leaf pots and suckers....

If anybody's having trouble rooting leaves, transplanting, etc..... just post on the forum, and we'll all do our best to help you along. I'm sure there's no problem where one or more of us hasn't "been there, done that," so don't worry about looking foolish, just ask!

So... anyone else got "ears" up for the Secret Easter Bunny Trade? :-)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes I'm doing fine ! I already had some plants on my Secret Bunnies list, plus have Special babies growing for her and a Specila Chimera too !
Please if anyone is needing help lets us know !
Allison

Yep OK here.

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

My leaves are just sitting there.I put them bown the end on November. They are rooted but no ears yet.I hope they hurry up so they will be decent size by the time the swap comes round:)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

It's still has not been long ..Are they warm ? You could week ferilize them each watering...don't keep too wet more to dry side but not dry out. Are they under lights ? I find if mine are real close to lights help. Mine almost touch.
It has not been a long time. If you give them a light tug does it seem like they have rooted. Lots of times they are growing babies underneath and all of a sudden you look one day and babies coming up ! I have transplanted leaves that I felt were taking too long, or too wet only to find a pot full of roots and babies there waiting on popping up !

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh PS I don't see any reason why a leaf pot could not be sent ?? People pay big bucks for them on Ebay !

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Jan, you'll see ears soon! Warmth and light do help shorten the wait. I've had leaf pots take 3 months before, and under the lights I'm seeing ears in 6 weeks.

Allison, while I'm sure a leaf pot would be appreciated, I know we're all trying to do "at least 2 well grown plantlets" for this trade. If I get in a bind, I'm planning to purchase a couple of plants, snitch a couple of leaves for myself, and send the rest of the plant to my buddy. But I also think it's too early in the game to need to make contingency plans.... Ears will pop up, plantlets will grow, and our biggest challenge in April will be figuring out how to fit all those plants & leaves into the box! ;-)

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Oh, I've got leaves down, trust me, just no ears yet. Many have roots budding and those with 1/4" roots are pulled and potted into soil&solo's

The maternity ward looks very cozy.
I have moved my newly potted up plantlets to the lights and away from the window. I just about froze them to death. Still have about 15 varieties that have just eared or will be earing within the month. I think things are going well. This is my first experience with so many at one time.

You will truly have your hands busy when the ears begin to appear and the plantlet grow.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Well, if I could just see some ears, I'd probably stop putting leaves down. It must be a sickness. LOL!

Good thing I just built some more shelves. Going to start a new thread for that.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I have the sickness too. In the past two years I have always had 200-500 leaves down at pne time never less . lol I have about 200 now. Everytime I go into the garden room I put leaves down ! Once those babies do start coming they grow fast :))

Crossville, TN(Zone 6b)

Nanna, the A. violet that is up front in the center, what is its name? I like the foliage. Dark with a red center. It is on the 9:44 AM post. Thanks, Linda

Silver Spring, MD

It's a noid. Girl ruffled leaves. Bloom is single blue. The leaves are beautiful. That's why I bought her. HD special.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I love the leaves on that one too, Nanna!

I just posted a bunch of pictures on my "uptown babies" thread, http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/565416/

Check it out, and you will see that my Secret Easter Buddy should be able to hope for a fun box!

Eureka, CA

I got my first set of ears today! Just a noid (not one of Allison's donation....) - but a leaf that broke off and I stuck it in a pot. I have 3 in a pot - close to light. But when I got Allison's package, I put almost everything on a heat mat. And today (after just two days on the mat!) I have an ear! Finally! My other babies I'm going to take care of better this weekend. Allison, I took the leaves out of the ziplocs and put them into a perlite/vermiculite/african violet mix. But this weekend I will have more time to take better care. Thank you again for helping me get started with some very special babies of yours.

Your so welcome hope you like everything ! You can take leaves off of some of the bigger plants and put down also if you like ! So much fun ! Allison

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Ali, you posted a photo of Angel's Petticoats up above, do you or anyone know a source for it?
That's one chimera I would shell out some $$ for!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

No I don't wish I did I'd be trying for her :))
I might try a Chimera or two from Lyon's Greenhouse. I need to find out when they ship and if pre-order like VG .

Congrats! I am nervously anticipating the birth of my babies- I am so impatient, does it help if I stare at them for hours each day?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes it helps but only if you rock them while staring :))

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Allison, I should just tell you that your leaves that you gave me are beginning to ear out: 'Mosaique' and 'Shawasee trail.' Those ears are coming up so fast, a far cry from how it feels when they are just quietly rooting!

I like to blow CO2 over them, that is, tell them that they are going to grow up to be big, blossoming plants... They also are well-learned and listen to BBC radio...
Kenton

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Blimmy mate...those AV Buggars are a gettin big....(my BBC improvisation)...

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

WOW Kenton wonderful ! I love babies growing !
'Mosaique' and 'Shawasee trail.'are both cool plants ! I love Mosaique fantasy blossoms, and last bloom cycle mine Chimera bloomed looking forward to see what they do next time ! Shawasee Trail I love those girl leaves :))Sorry I spelled it wrong hard to read first class from bed lol
Shiawasee Trail. Anyone who can see better and have FC or spelling help me out please. Thanks.
God Job ! Kenton

How are all the Easter Bunnies doing ? Everyone have their wish lists up-dated !

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Well, this Easter Bunny is in Pittsburgh through the weekend, celebrating my DB's birthday. But I got all my AVs watered last night, and even potted up a few more little plantlets. I don't think I'll have any trouble finding at least 7 varieties that I think my Easter Buddy will enjoy... It's been fun putting my Easter Buddy's name on plantlets as they're potted up into their individual cups!

Maybe it's time for a new thread with photos of leaf pots, plantlets, etc... I'll start one when I return next week... I think I will post photos of some of what will go into my Easter Buddy's box, but I will not identify anything in the photo, LOL... As my grandmother used to say, it's good to keep 'em guessing!

Silver Spring, MD

Great Idea!!!

Lilburn, GA

Hi peeps!

Sorry to butt in but what is the name of the violet in the main message? The little one with pink flowers? Thank you.
