Yahoo! Thanks for playing with us!

I've been considering when I should close the sign up list and assign everyone their Secret EBs. I'm thinking it might be better to know by December than by March so you have plenty of time to grow some nice plantlets for your person.... We could always do a second sign up round later on if it seems there's lots of interest from folks who missed this one.

I'm open to discussion, but I'm thinking it might be good to close the list, say, on November 30.

So, if you're been lurking on this thread -- sign up now! :-)

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Critter, I really appreciate your orchestrating this Secret Easter Bunny trade, I KNOW it is a labor of love and that it takes your personal time to do this. Many will benefit from the hard work of one (and any helpers you have). So here's a BIG THANK YOU cyber hug for your coordination efforts!

I can't hardly wait until Christmas in spring!

And by the way, you are so right, you cant believe the THRILL I got when I saw that little plant poking it's head out. Almost as big a thrill as the moment when I tugged on the leaf and found that it was ROOTED! Today I took a closer look, (these old eyes aren't as accurate as they once were) and I saw numerous little nubs (plantlets I assume) - WooHoo, I will have trades after all! Assuming I can keep them alive.

Cheers,
Lali

Silver Spring, MD

Big thank you from me, too, Jill. You're the best!

I think closing in December is a good idea. That will give us time to clip and fluff to the specific wants of our secret swapper. There are some swappers who would be interested in more than one swap. That would take care of any additional signer inners.

This is getting more and more exciting.

Big thank you from me, too, Jill

Same here, Jill - THANK YOU! Closing in December may be the best approach.

I'm hoping that no one thinks 'Don't give her to me as a trade partner' (like the kid that is last to be picked for sports) Here is my collection (don't laugh)

Your collection is beautiful :)) I see in the future it will really be a growing collection. And did we not see you have leaves down with babies sprouting :))

Your pots may be too large. The 1/3 size rule is best. The pot should only be 1/23 the size of the plant/ Also wick watering may help. I use warm to hot water and let my wicks dry out some in-between. Do you use a feeding mthod ? How about lights ? I enjoy growing in natural light also.
I think your plants are pretty :)) Allison

Allison, what material do you use to wick with (cotton?)
they are in the pots that they came in, of course they were blooming when I got them, then the blooms just 'melt' at the stem. I water by setting them in a bowl of tepid water. I let them soak up what they can in about 30 minutes and then let them drain. I don't feed them. What do they prefer. I can get some AV food it that's what they like, but will MG work too? What numbers are best (NPK).

They are in a west facing window except for the first photo which in on a dresser about 10' away from that same window. No direct light but bright indirect light. (diffused through that pleated shade) Temps are 60's to low 80's (it was 84º here yesterday).

Should I pot them down when I buy them? Or repot and change the soil? I just slip the pot they came in into one of those decorative clay pots, they aren't actually repotted.
Yes, here's that one that has a new leaf and nubbies.

Let's resurrect the wick watering thread http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/541027/ or start a new thread about it. Great advice & good questions, but if we make this a thread about everything, it'll get hard to find people's wish lists etc.

You're got some nice plants going there, begoniacrazii!

I need to take my camera downstairs and get a picture of my 2 new flats of leaf starts.... :-)

I want in, please. My stock would be ideal for a newbie AV nut. I'm a newbie AV nut myself, that did not keep up with names in the beginning and now the babies that I've rooted are noids. So please, don't pair me up with an expert grower.

My wish list:
trailer
mini
micromini

but I am not picky. My address in the exchange is current.

Welcome ! I think you have to Dmail critterologist to let her know and give her your name and mailing address :))
Do you have any named Av's ? I am offering a large box of plants and leaves all named for people who want to join in the Secret Bunny Sawp ! Just for Shipping/Handling. You will get about 11 plants, and at least 6 bags of leaves each bag will have 2-4 leaves. :))
Allison

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

Thanks Allison for your offer. I have noids growing and hope to be paired w/ somebody who has the same or doesn't care if she gets noids. I have a number of plants I'm presently rooting.

My feelings will not be hurt if I'm disqualified from participating because of the noids but I would like to be part of the swap, nothing like having a x/mas in april!

going to contact Jill now.

Everyone has such wonderful plants and leaves to share.
The trade is 5 sets of leaves from five different plants and two plants ? Is this correct ? *minimum* Ok sense everyone has wonderful trades to share just an Idea . Maybe you should put everyone's names in a hat shake it out and let your husband pull the names until everyone is matched up :))
Just a fun thought .I can't wait and I love them all :))

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Actually, I've already worked out a preliminary match list. If more people join before the sign up deadline, I'll juggle things around a little, no problem. Different people had different things going on with their have/wish lists, so a completely random approach didn't seem practical. But there's definitely a random element to the matching! I think it will work out fine. :-)

Edited to add that the above "random element" is coin tossing, in case anyone is curious! LOL

You're very funny. I would have done the same thing. (tossed a coin)

When do we get the match list? Or do we. Will we only be given one name and then check that persons wish list?

Nanna

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yep -- everyone gets one name! I'm waiting to send out the Dmails until after November 30, since that's our sign up deadline.

Just to give you an idea, here are the criteria I'm trying to take into account when matching people with their secret EBs. I'm sure it's not a perfect system but hopefully everyone will be happy with their box!

1. Everyone sends to one person and receives a box from a different person on the list.
2. People who wanted only named AVs were matched with people who could send them.
3. There were a couple of pre-arranged matches, where somebody felt they were especially well able to be somebody's Secret EB according to that person's wish list.
4. If I was aware that people had traded recently, I didn't match them with one another.
5. I looked at people's wish lists, for example matching somebody who had a number of trailers with somebody who had "trailers" at the top of their wish list.
6. When I encountered more than one possible match, I flipped a coin!

This reminded me of those logic puzzles.... "You are packing boxes of assorted jams. Each box must contain grape and strawberry. No box may have both blueberry and raspberry. etc...." LOL!

Silver Spring, MD

Good work!!! Way to go, Jill!!

Nanna

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Well, I wanted to post that because DH commented last night that I should say something about the "logic" I was using, lest people think I was matching my "favorite" people with the "best" traders..... I said, hey, they're all my favorite people, and they're all the best traders! He's an engineer, and he's in the middle of this huge proposal, so he's very exacting about writing everything down.... well.

I'm very excited about putting this together! It's already great fun, and I can feel the anticipation building...!!!

Crossville, TN(Zone 6b)

I want to join in. I only have 2 NOID, one is variegated . I will get back to you on what I want and will Dmail you. Linda

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Linda, you've got Dmail.

Denver, CO

Sign me in.

This is very much a mistake. Yet another wild plant kick that will end in tears and billions of plants. (Only kidding.) But not about the plants.

I tend to like oddball things in any aspect of gardening, so I suppose that variegated leaves are on my wish list, but above all, Stippled or spreckled flowers make my heart pound. That is the clear way that I decide what plants to keep. I'm afraid I don't care for (aka hate) pink, especially pale pink. I hold exceptions for fuchia, redish, etc. Also, I think a plant is just as beautiful with a name as without. Noids are fine.

What I have now is meager at best. Perhaps. 11 plants of 8 varieties. I just started some leaves. Things the way they are, I figure I will have acquired and propagated many more by next spring. (It is difficult to walk through the grocery's floral section with eyes closed...)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

James and Linda you have Dmail Allison
Don't forget to Dmail your names and address to critterologist's

morehead, KY(Zone 6a)

Hello!
I would love to get in on this! I love the old type. I have lots of named also thanks to betsy so i could give leaves of these. I just started out so i do have some small plants that i don't know their names, but are nice and healthy. I would be happy with anything, but would love some old type like my grandmother had. Simple leaf and flower color.
