Hi folks. Dinner's over, dishes done, and here I sit listening to the storm that blew in this afternoon. I hung 2 loads of laundry on the line this morning since it was partly sunny and a light wind, then went to LaGrande (40 miles away) to meet a friend and deliver a saddle to her. We met some other friends and had lunch and the rain started there before we finished. I drove toward home, ran out from under the storm a few miles from home and rescued the laundry before the storm hit. Close one there! The forecast for the next few days says we could be getting snow showers. I'm not ready for snow, still have lots of yard work to do, some bulbs to plant, and the vegie garden to rototill. Usually we don't get snow that sticks until Thanksgiving weekend, so maybe it isn't winter yet.
Molly, your gas is cheaper than ours too. I can't help but think the big oil companies are price gouging.
Ernie, I'm so glad to read that your pup is getting better. They do eat the darndest things. The worst any of our pups ate was the bark off alder firewood that was in a rack next to the woodstove. We couldn't figure why she had diarreah all the time, then put the clues together and watched her more carefully when she was near the firewood, scolded her whenever she tried to take a bite, and after a few times she quit trying and the accidents stopped. It was no fun but certainly not as serious as what your pup went through.
Early birthday wishes to Darius.
Maria, we are waiting for doggie pictures........
Coffee and...Part 49...! :-D
Well it looks like Ernie's crisis is over. I love good news!! Molly is digging and transporting plants, still good news, Bluespiral, congrats on the job tomorrow, don't know what it is , but still good news, Darius has a birthday, and embarking on her plant hauling trip, still good news, DR son had interviews, disappointed, but good news of a sort, are we on a roll or what? Oh, Oh, I forgot, Maria, is getting to see Sampson, who will probably love her and end up staying, GREAT NEWS. Am I being a pollyanna or what? Never know what tomorrow will bring, so enjoy this good news day. Tomorrow may be the "black pit" day.
After I finished cleaning the kitchen tonight, I read about 100 pages in a "good book", watched some TV, and then checked several DG forums. Didn't participate in chat tonight, so don't know what went on there.
Tomorrow is grocery/Walmart day. Taking DM to Dr for monthly blood test. She takes blood thinner, and has to have it checked every month. Thursday is haircut day, and Friday is getting ready to go to my sister's day. Whatever else happens, will fit it in somewhere. We will be leaving Saturday morning to visit my sister for the weekend. Probably coming home on Sunday night. Taking Mr. B. as my built in dog sitter has moved. Following the vet's recommendation of giving him benedryl for the trip, negating ( I hope) the upset tummy. My sister has a Sampson a Yorkshire Terrier, and my Mr. B and he play well together. See Maria, you are missing great opportunities for enjoying get togethers with the dogs!!
Well, I am off to bed, hopefully to continue my 3 night string of good sleep. Sweet fluffy dreams to all of you. Oh, BTW, there are 3 pieces of chocolate cream pie on the counter, someone please finish it, and it has buccos of calories.
Don't let Sarv know about the chocolate cream pie, Defoe, she'll eat all three LOL, good night to you too and sweet dreams for everybody, if I can't sleep perhaps I shall see you later some where at DG
Maria
Good Night all, and now there are only two pieces of pie. Yuuummmmmmyyyyyy
Nearly forgot, now there is only one, lol
Dcat, oh dear, you have my most favorite pie on the counter. I am not going to share with anyone else. I am eating all 3 pieces right now!!!
Yes, I hope we are on a roll for dental school interviews and acceptions.
Hi all,
I forgot to watch the thread and thought you had all gone quiet!!!! Should have known better.
Many Happy Returns for tomorrow Darius - enjoy the day. Birthday cake for the young attached!!.
Maria I have been a Golden Retriever addict for longer than I care to remember. They are adorable people - soft, soppy and very adaptable. As a breeder I often ran two on, to see which turned out the show dog, then let the second go as a pet later. They always settled in as though they were there from being babies. When we came here I had to leave my then 11 (now 13) year old behind. He was too old for 12 hours in a crate and the Texas heat. I was heartbroken but he settled with my friend in days. When I went back this March he was thrilled to see me, but equally happy to leave and go home with her.
You and Samson will get on fine. It is meant to be.
Ernie I'm so pleased Jenny is on the mend, they really put you through it don't they!
M5 I think I was supposed to Dmail you - but I forgot what about!! We got whisked off to deal with the crisis last week and just dropped everything. Now I'm having trouble picking up the pieces.
Made it thru the night with only a minimum of thrashing. Where's the birthday girl? In the sack yet?? Get your hinny outta bed Darius - you have to blow out the candles on the cake so I can have a piece. Some hogs ate all the pie!!
Today is a do nothing day for me - until tonight. I have dinner with the still teaching friends, youngest DS is coming over to cut up his deer, oldest DS and DH are going to pick up their new frig, DIL wants to go shopping at Kohls with me. Hmmm, wonder what will really get done!!
I got up and popped my allergy tab immediately. Something is really in the air here and causing me grief - cough, hack, snort etc. It's not catching, so don't worry!!
DH picked a huge tub of peppers and left them on the counter. I told him if he picks, he puts them up. I'm not touching them. Wonder how long it will take before they hit the compost pile!! He slept in the chair last night and finally at 9pm went to bed - I just hate nights like that!! He requires 9 hrs of sleep he tells me. I told him I was going to look for another man to keep me company in the evenings.. LOL
Weatherman said 70 deg tomorrow - what a crazy bunch of weather we're having. But I'll take it!! Plans are for lunch and a movie with the retired girls - I would rather stay at home with the weather so nice! But I'll go as I don't want to miss any talk and laughs.
Hey, my cookbooks arrived- I spent all evening drooling over them.. Thanks Sheila - checks in the mail!! Good thing I don't live where you do, I'd buy every one of those darn things.
Maria, when is Samson coming? Get out your camera so we can see picks of him.
I'm hungry - gotta go check to see what's in the frig...
Good morning,
How long does it take to adjust to standard time? Still waking up early when the furnace goes on in the morming. I guess it wouldn't be a problem if I'd go to bed early enough ...
Happy birthday to Darius and safe journey.
And yes, Darius. I guess you are EVERYWHERE. You saw the picture on one of the threads of the Upper Midwest Forum - http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/554070/#new Thanks for the compliment.
As to being everywhere, I see there is a Happy Birthday thread on the Canadian Forum as well. Guess I should mosey over there and repeat the greetings. LOL
Meezer, good luck with the chair. I know you'll win. In my past history, we generally gave up and sent chairs out to be stripped. (Do they still dip furniture anywhere?)
Hope everyone else has a good day. Have to admit, I'm still skimming the posts. Have to get to work.
Ann
Well, have been up for awhile. Read the entire paper, and had some toast, and of course the coffee. Weatherman says weather here is supposed to be sunny and warm. Still have a few tulips to get in the ground, after I get back from grocery shopping.
Happy Birthday Darius, the candles on your cake are going to melt if you don't hurry and blow them out!!
Maria, good morning, did you say when Sampson is coming for his visit? Wish I could be there, I bet you get covered in dog kisses!!
Well, going to make the bed, and get moving on the day. Will check in again when I get home.
Good Morning, Everyone!First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DARIUS!!!!!
MANY, MANY MORE!!!!
Know what you mean about time changes, it usually takes me a month
before I get adjusted.
Sorry about the pie, Sheilah, but tell you what , I 'll help you look for another guy to keep you company perhaps I 'll find one for myself too
:-0
Don't know yet when samson is coming, will get a call today..
Another beautiful morning, crisp and I know it will get warmer later.
Had to interrupt myself to go for a little walk am as dopey as can be, no more Ambiens, they are too much for me. Last night I barely made it
after taking 12 steps from the bathroom to the bed, turned on Mozart on my bedside disk turned off the light, never heard more than two notes, lol. Should I get Samson, he will think what is the matter with my new Mama, she will not pay any attention to me, I don't like it here LOL, Guess I just have to go back to be a night owl.
Maria
Happy Birthday Darius!!!
Sarv - whatever is in the air out your way must have driffted east. Woke up feeling like somebody whacked me over the head.
Going in to work regular time today so will have to catch up at lunch time.
Maria - can't wait to see pics of that dog!
Everyone have a great day!
Even "lurkers" have to come out of hiding to say:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DARIUS!!!!!
((((((((HUGS)))))))))))
Pati
H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y DARIUS!!
Sorry I wasn't around much yesterday. I tried to read the notes everyone posted...but I don't remember a thing at the moment.
I spent most of the day trying to deal with DS and DGD and a STUPID ex-wife that doesn't know what the heck she wants in or out of life! No Details...but the bumper sticker that says "__it Happens" really fills the bill in this situation.
Just wanted to check in...let you all know that I haven't passed from the scene, and to wish Darius a GREAT BIRTHDAY!!
Everyone else...I'll try to get myself back in here in a little while.
(I'm sure that by noon we'll be starting #50 thread...it won't take long once everyone finds out it's Darius' day!! :-D)
~julie~
Julie, your thread must be the busiest in DG, probably breaking a record, I would not want to be without it, so much fun !
Maria
I have missed so much in the last few days, and don't have time to go back and catch up.
Mary - I think I said congratulations, but just in case....CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Maria - What's this I hear about a dog??? I have a Golden Retriever (our second) and absolutely love her! She is really supposed to be my daughter's dog, but spends most of her time with me. She is quite talented too...loves to write. (I'll post the letter following this message.)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DARIUS!!!
Julie - you're so funny! Fifty posts by noon...it's 9:45 and already we are nearly at 100! Hope all works out with DS and others.

Suzzie's letter to Sara:
****************************************************************************************************
Dear Sara,
When are you coming home? I need my back scratched! Really it’s been difficult here; your mom won’t leave me alone. All she does is yap, yap, yap, all day. Today she took me shopping., and you know I’m always up for a car ride! I love it when I can stick my head out the window and the wind blows through my hair. That flapping noise my cheeks make is pretty cool, too! It does make my nose run though, and then we have an issue with messy windows - that can be embarrassing! Well, we finally got to town and guess what she did...she made me stay in the van while she went in the store. Can you believe it?!! It was only forty-five degrees out, no danger of heat stroke, but what was I supposed to do? She didn’t leave the keys, so I couldn’t listen to the stereo. I lounged around inside the van until she came out muttering something about poor service at K-Mart. Like I would know!
After that we headed to Wal-Mart, and, you guessed it, I stayed in the van again! I figured if I had to sit in the van, I was getting something so I yelled “Get me a new collar, and get something with attitude!” That dull, rusty chain I’ve been wearin’ was bringing me down! She came out a little while later with a real pretty striped number that has so many colors I was speechless. Come Friday night I am going to strut my stuff!
I was real happy about the collar, but still miffed about sitting in the van, so she tried to butter me up with an offer to go to Java Cafe. I wasn’t sure what to expect at the Cafe, so I turned up my nose and pretended I didn’t hear her. You know I’m good at that! Just what is a “Java” anyway? If it ain’t rawhide, it ain’t passin’ these lips!
Since I wasn’t answering, she headed for China Buffet and got buffet to go. Jackpot! “WooHoo! I’m gettin’ an egg roll!” Yeah, right! She ate that whole egg roll AND a crab rangoon without even letting me lick the grease! When she grab a napkin and wiped that grease off her chin I could have cried! <>i“Hey, hungry dog here!!!”
That little snack must have made her thirsty because she stopped at McDonald’s for a diet Coke. She must have been in cahoots with “Girlie” behind the counter, because “Girlie” slipped her one of those bone shaped dog biscuits and said, “Here’s a little treat for your dog.” (I swear I heard sarcasm in her voice.) Who does she think she’s kidding! I know “imitation flavored” when I smell it! Well, I let that biscuit drop and fast, sister. Like I said, “If it ain’t rawhide, it ain’t passin’ these lips!” That biscuit is still on the floor in the van, and will be there for a long time as far as I‘m concerned.
Well, I guess if someone here will scratch my back every day I can hang in until you get home. The food isn’t so bad, and there’s a good cat fight every now and then. When no one is looking I climb up on the new loveseat and stretch out. If a cat gets displaced in the process, it’s no skin off my nose. They get preferential treatment around here anyway. If I see another one of them get their belly rubbed, I’m gonna puke!
Take care, and watch where your walking! Love, Suzzie

Happiest of all Birthdays to you Darius. Gosh I hope you love your present when you get back.
MG~Nice job on the cake. No wonder you were up so late.
Sarv~ I want to trade my DH in too. He really made me mad last night. Maybe if we do it together we can get a discount or something. All I have to say is dinner better be good tonight or he is going to hear about it...
Well I better get off this laptop and started on the housework, I at least need to be able to point to something I completed in the last couple of days.
Have a great day everyone. Its going to be a good one.
:-)))), What a wonderful letter, Jody, to thinkk goldens can write, still have not heard, getting kind of anxious now, afraid to even go out of doors for fear miss the call but will take the phone with me if I have to.
Maria
I'm glad you liked it, Maria. I hope your visitor comes soon.
Jody
Maria, call them. I am sure that Samson is wondering why he is not there yet also.
Of course dogs can't write. They dictate the letter to their pets.
LOL
Casey
Good morning.
Jasmerr, the dog letter is hilarious! Be sure to let us know if he writes anything else. Have you seen the one about how to bathe a cat?
It looks like it might be an ok day weather wise, just cloudy/partly sunny at the moment although rain/snow showers are in the forecast, so I need to get a couple of hours worth of digging and hauling done before I need to get ready to go to town. Yesterday I was in the other town and would have done a few more things except for the storm and thinking maybe I could get home in time to rescue the laundry before it got wet again. We are 40 miles from one town and 20 from the other, so I plan my trips to get as much done as possible. The Dodge pickup was scheduled for a replacement part today and so I planned my trip around that appointment, then this morning the garage called to reschedule and since I am out of some necessities I have to go anyhow. Hubby and I will try to get together for lunch and I will poke around in the thrift shops before getting the groceries and heading home. See you later.
Thanks and BIG HUGS for all the good wishes, everyone! Love the cakes, but had to blow several times to extinguish all the candles, LOL. Besides all the wishes here, I have a dozen or more Dmail wishes (haven't opened them) and probably 2 dozen ecards in my regular email. Guess I know more people than I thought. : )
However, it's not shaping up to be the wonderful day I wanted. I have spent the morning trying not to be ill and it hasn't worked. (I've been fighting it all week.) Now I can't even keep water down and have the dry heaves. I guess my trip will be postponed. When Bob comes to pack plants today, instead I must ask him to take me to renew my driver's license, don't think I dare drive.... and my license expires today.
I plan to be back later...
Casey, I just called but had to leave a message :-(
Smart move, Darius
Yikes, Casey, she just called back and said she will be here in about two hours!!!! I am
so excited, just hope he will like it here
Maria
Oh Maria.... nice to hear some excitement in your "voice"!!!
Jasmerr. if you back up a few threads you'll see the letter my DD's dog wrote to my DS and DIL when he was going to be adopted into their new home. He's now been "nooterd", and will be joining them this weekend. He's a sweet Golden but DD doesn't want to use him for showing, and doesn't want anyone to use him for breeding. I'm sure it will be exciting at their house, as they will get Max, DS's siamese who has been boarding with us for a couple of years. I suspect some fur will be flying, although Max is jovial and friendly, DIL's female cat is kinda hissy...she's in for a surprise !
Been busy this morning, did some laundry, made a chocolate banana cream pie...saw a neat trick on Martha the other day, coat your pie shell with melted semisweet chocolate and the filling won't make the bottom crust soggy.....Looks like it should work. Taking that over to their new house tonight along with throw pillows, Max's basket, cat food, the Little Green Machine carpet cleaner (I only use the big one now and Max is the puker) a table and the chairs, and...... whatever else is on my list, so I don't forget anything. Got a store run planned for whipping cream and made myself a pasty out of the extra pie crust. It smells good!
Sarv, that was a pretty fast trip for the books, the nice guy at the PO suggested using print material instead of media mail for them so it saved a buck or two on postage. I've been browsing through the slow cooker one, and saw some real time savers. Haven't cracked the other ones yet....seems I'm short on time...
Carot, do you still want the Complete Guide to Country Cooking? It's half price this month but I don't know how big a supply they have of them. LMK
Oops washer is honking at me so I better go rescue the sheets. I was going to hang them outside but it hasn't warmed up much yet so they'll go in the dryer.
Maria, sorry about what pie? You mean because you all ate it up before I got here?? LOL Let us know how the puppy date goes, I think he's going to love you up and win your heart..
I hope Ernie's baby girl is home today and feeling better, and Darius, whatever bug got you, take care of yourself, you don't need to be laid up just before you start your travels.
Oh boy, I better get dressed, it's almost noon! And no progress on the $^%&^ chair today , think I'll give them a couple of my folding wooden ones to use until I get it done. Supposed to be warmer tomorrow, too!! That should inspire me! Oh....bulbs to plant, sigh, my to do list is getting longer by the day...........
This message was edited Nov 2, 2005 11:43 AM
poking in before my son's karate class!!!
Darius happiest of days to you so sorry you are not feeling well though!!!
Maria he will love you and I cannot wait to see pictures of the dear Samson!!! 2 Hours I can hardly wait to hear all about him!!
Ernie keeping my fingers crossed that Jenny is all better today!!!
Anne
Darius, UMMM, not good girl. Take care of yourself and that foot. Maybe waiting a bit would be best. I am sure that lO1 will be happy to host you next week instead. SIL, well she can just wait to be honored with perty flowers and plants. Take care of yourself.
Meezer yes I do still want the books. 2 please. Just let me know how much and what shipping is. They make the best wedding presents. Oh, and I think you should send that pie this way. Love cream pies. Rest of the family will only eat apple, pear or pumpkin. Oh, my dryer is beeping at you also. They are the sheets for the spare room. Thanks.....
Maria, oh you are going to love having Samson around to talk too. And to take care of. He is going to be so happy and loved. Oh please take pictures when he comes to visit. I am so excited for you. I am watching the clock.
Well I just got the call of where they are reassigning my office too. Uggghhh, a high school yuck. Oh well its only for a year. Figures, I was the only one left who hadn't been housed at a high school. I am sure you can just hear the excitement in my voice of being surrounded by teenagers and attitudes all day. Oh shoot me now......
M5 - I did see Max's letter. He may not spell well, but typing with yer paws can be a bit tricky. Max and Suzzie should get together! If you are going to the Taste of Home Store again, I would be interested in any cookbooks for slow cookers (just a couple; unless they are 4 for $10) and a good dessert cookbook on sale. Thanks!
Maria, I'm so excited for you. I cant wait to hear all about Samson!
Darius - Sorry you are not feeling well on this special day.
It looks like a nice day outside here. I don't get to see much of it though. My office doesn't have a window. I only get to look out when I walk down the hall to the ladies room. I live for weekends and this one coming up sounds like it will be great.
Hoping when I get home tonight to spend some time in my craft room. I like to paint, but havn't done anything for a year or so. This latest project shows how rusty i am (not that i'm good at it anyway, just like to do it).
Have a good afternoon!
