Julie, how can you do that to me, just posted a long tale? LOL

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Good Mornin all! Going in to work late today, so have time to chat a little. Made an apple crisp this morning. Hope the gang leaves some for me when i come home.

Maria - Older dogs are great. I missed some of your story, but older dogs adapt just as well as pups.

I think I need to take a "mental health" day from work soon. I need a day home when everyone else is at work and not under my feet. With 3 men in the house, stuff sure gets messy.

Starkville, MS

I read it Maria - and wanted to comment - I have adopted a number of dogs that age and have *never* had a problem with bonding. The added factor of not having to train a puppy was a great bonus! You could probably equal, but never beat, the loving companionship of a Golden. The only thing that *might* be negative about them is that they never grow up, just reach the stage of perpetual 2 year-old and remain childlike for the rest of time. Some people take issue with that, but I just love that quality about that breed. Go get that child - now!!

Morning everyone else. Hope you had a good night/have a good day.

(any pizza left?)

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning everyone. I hope there is some of that apple crisp later, first I need breakfast with some protein. Gotta have balance or I get into blood sugar problems, not diabetes, it's hypoglycemia. What happens there is that if I eat something sugary without eating protein then it turns on the sugar burner that doesn't know when to quit, and wammm! it hits me and I have to get some juice or milk real quick and then eat something like a cheese sandwich to get me back on track for the rest of the day. It's
inconvenient but manageable.

Thanks for all the congratulations! I have to say it feels funny to not have a ride to look forward to, but then I think about the weather........ and I do have a few other things to do. Filling up a whole winter tho is something hard to do. I'm really oriented to outside and the gardening and riding both quit about the same time. Right now I have lots to do outside before the weather closes in and the ground freezes. I woke up thinking about those projects and dozed off again, woke up the next time thinking about next year's ride season goals. Can we say addicted?

It's just light enough to see the horses in the pasture, all present and accounted for, looking calm. The new horse I brought home seems to be pretty mellow and sensible and my others are not agressive. Oh, got to get a picture of the sky, lots of pink! See ya later.

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Mornin Mary! I'll save you some apple crisp. I have diabetics in my house. from what I have read, hypoglycemia is similar with the low blood sugar thing.

Have a great day all. I'm heading out to work. Maybe I'll get to check in at lunch or if it gets slower in the afternoon.

See ya!

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Still alive here, was beginning to wonder tho. Not a fun way to lose weight! I skim read since Fri. Hope I didn t miss anything important. Maria's getting better and has left aria behind. :) Ernie has joined the day crowd - howdy, long time no 'see' :) hope Jenny is on the mend, she's such a doll and you've just gone thru a loss in the pet dept, this must be hard on you! darius, u cut ur foot? bad, bad! and heading to the questionable sis soon. Praying for a safe trip and a sane sister. :) also welcome to susie, and healing wishes to a few others under the weather, julie and who's back? mg? sorry, I should take lessons from some of u folks and take notes! Well, that about exhausted me, time to rest!

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

I'm up, honest!! Been up since six but thought before I put on clean clothes I might as well don yesterday's splattered duds and tackle that chair again. Slathered on another coat of stripper, but stopped to catch up with the GOBs. Eating a muffin, but checking the countertop, sticky buns! Woohoo! I'll have one of those too!

Maria, a golden would be perfect for you. They are such lovely dogs, very loving and sweet, and in spite of their "never growing up" are so eager to please that they are very trainable. What good company for you. They are just wonderful dogs.

Ernie, I hope your pup has just chewed up something that can be easily removed. Those little guys will get into the darndest things, and if it fits in their mouths, they will chew on it. Let's hope it's an easy fix, and a quick trip home.

DD has placed her last puppy from the litter. She got a call from a man who bought a puppy from her nine years ago. He was so distressed, they had had their boy in to the vet. and they finally diagnosed cancer, so advanced he had to be put down. In the course of the conversation he asked if she was planning another litter soon. She said no, she just had placed all but one from her last litter. He said, I need to talk to my wife....!! It only took them a day to decide, and I think they are picking him up this weekend! She said, it was just meant to be, and that's why it took so long for that puppy to be placed. What a happy ending to a sad story!!

She's taking me to lunch and a movie today, so if I'm going to get more done on that **** chair, I have to get off this one and do it. Not meaning to neglect all the rest that I haven't mentioned, but I will drop in later and catch up some more!

This is the current state of refinishing...think I'll be done by 5 p.m. tomorrow? Yikes!!

Back from the workout joint- stopped and treated myself to a calorie laden cappiccino from the gas station!! Sun went away - that's why..... LOL

Maria- that pup is meant for you - doesn't matter that it is a little older- we took in our DS's cat and it was a year and a half old- she crawled up in my lap and has been ours every since! Get on the phone and claim her NOW!!

Mary, I feel 100% better if I get up and just eat protein (meat loaf is my fav) rather than anything else. Think I might be afflicted with the blood sugar stuff too. Donuts just don't set well with me anymore, but man they sure do look good!!

I refilled my bird feeder and have so enjoyed all the birds visiting again. Hummers leave and the blue jays return (to the feeders!)

This morning I went out to check my tubers and my cannas that I dug got frosted and turned to mush. crappola- I am so mad at myself. Went to Horns Canna site and ran off an order form....might as well order some more...

tg- two pieces of pizza left- I'll share one with you and we both can have some apple crisp - I have the ice cream for the top!!

Julie- get better soon!! I wiped off the keyboard after you posted so as not to get any of your germs.... LOL

Starkville, MS

Oh, ice cream for me too please! When I lived alone, I got into the habit of eating whatever, whenever. If I wanted pizza for breakfast and eggs for supper, that's what I had! Now mostly, I'm back to "normal" menus. ( I think I liked my way better, but.....)
ginni

Maria have you called to claim your baby yet? Better hurry before someone beats you.

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Oh, Sarv, guess I will have to send lots of dahlia tubers since you can't keep them alive, lol. Let me know.
You have got to bring in tubers before it gets frosty or freezing!!!!!!!!
Apple crisp sounds good for breakfast. Need to make some applesauce tonight with some leftover apples going to waste.
Later, Carol (DR)

Mornin' Gobs...

Maria, get the dog! I had a golden when I lived on the farm and raised Arabians. They are wonderful and gentle animals, and her heart was as big as my beloved Morgan (dachshund) I lost 3 years ago.

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Maria, my little Tinkerbelle was 8 months old when we got her. In that time she had been whelped at the breeders kennel in Eastern Washington, flown to Sacramento Calif for a time, flown back to the breeder and made a 100 and something mile car trip to our home. There weren't any more problems than if we had picked a local 6 week old puppy. I think the dog would be a wonderful treat for you, but thats only the opinion of a devout dog lover.

Meezer.Oh how ugly that chair is now. Just like the ugly duckling. Be sure to show pics of it when it turns into a beautiful swan. I love old chairs and tables. There are three old oak chairs in the shed awaiting refinishing. Straight-back with leather seats. Had them for 35 years and still haven't gotten around to finishing them. How will you finish it? Natural or paint ?

Still raining here, not hard, but enough to keep one indoors. Still have a few things that need to be done inside so it won't be boring.Put the kids out three times this morning, but Immy managed to dart into the living-room and leave a couple of "calling cards" on the rug. Good and solid due to her diet, so easy to dispose of and no residue. Got a marked down Chuck Steak yesterday, 30% off. A bit of salt, lots of pepper, mayo, mustard, bit of horseradish, wrapped in foil and baked at 350° for an hour or so. Nice and tender, juicy and flavorful. Probably have the remainder, leftover turkey roast, twice baked potatoes and squash for dinner tonight, depending when DW gets back from her 5 day trip with "the girls". Had the lights off last night and watched TV, not a single urchin knocked at the door, now that's a treat as far as I'm concerned.

Ernie, any word on Jenny yet ?

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Next time i will make a bigger pan of apple crisp!

Maria Did you get that dog yet. Did I understand correctly, are you adopting from a shelter or rescue?

Meezer: yes send pictures of the chair when it is finished. I am so jealouse of people with time to that cool stuff.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Sarv, you give me stomach pains with every breakfast. I can barely handle eating oatmeal or something plain for the first couple hours I am awake and you are eating pizza, stickybuns and ice cream. Oh my. Stay away from my children....Cake is not a multi food pyramid item. TGIF slowly back away from that Ice cream. You are going to regret it.....

Maria, you have been outvoted. Go get your dog. I think you both need each other, and you know once you see that sweet face you are going to fall in love. GO

Suzie, your comment of being jealous of meezer because she has time made me laugh. These women are on the go from sun up to sun down and then still have more going in the back wings. I can't keep up.

Bal, what a wonderful DH you are to have a nice dinner waiting for DW.

Ernie, I still have my wishes and prayers aimed your way for Jenny. Let us know.

Casey

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

daisy - It wasn't MY fault - the $#$% weatherman never mentioned frost!! I had them all laid on nice on the lawn drying and woke up to white. I almost cried. (well not almost- actually did sniffle...) I will take anything you have extra - begging.....

Bal, mustard and mayo on a chuck steak?? Never would have dreamed about adding that. I just stuck a pkg of stew meat in the crock - sounds good- it is chilly out.

Haven't done diddley today...lazy day for me again. Don't feel tip top - didn't take my allergy tab this morn and man can I tell - I have been coughing and hacking and clearing my throat all morning. Tum tum is rolly too - I get that from all the gunk rolling down my throat (sorry if you are eating lunch!)

Touched off the wood stove and may just curl up and snooze a little...

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Sarv, your tummy is rolly too and you are wondering why????? You are too much. ROFLMBO

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Hey, pizza has all parts of the food pyramid in it!! I'm just finishing my 2nd piece - lunch time here...Haven't touched an oreo or chips in a long time (patting myself on the back..)

I just LOVE food.....timer just went ding- gotta go

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Sarv, what's a "long time"?? Mere days? I bought Oreos about a month ago, first time in maybe 2 years, and they are finally all gone.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Just came back from the Chiro, he moved a few bones, lol have to go back thursday and then will arrange a massage which I had to cancel because having been sick. Then I went to the market. bought all sorts of things I never have bought before like all kinds of cheese from every where and an ready made salad which I just ate , very good, was sooo hungry remembered I did not eat anything last night and only had a banana for breakfast.
I called the people with the dog , she is calling me tomorrow when she is going to bring the dog, I want to see him first here in my house before I take him, she said still acts like a puppy and is very energetic, she is happy to think he will have 20 acrea to run around in, but I wonder about that, be afraid he might get lost.
Told one my intentions to my daughter, she said, Mama do not do it you will not be able to go any where, well we'll see.
Maria

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

PS..his name is Samson, don't you just love it ? I do

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Not go anywhere??? Take the new puppy with you. So long as when you go out he is with you on a leash for awhile I think he will learn what is safe and what is not. My dogs love to go for rides, and they sure enjoy taking me for walks.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

LOL, Casey, I travel a lot, go to europe to visit my sister and florida in and perhaps other places I have been considering
Maria

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

I am sure that Samson would love Europe and what dog wouldn't love the visiting Florida??? I have taken my dogs on vacations. Kitty doesn't do car rides much anymore but he loved to sit on his box and go for drives. PITA won't leave the dogs alone when he goes along with the group so he stays home with Kitty. When we move we are taking a few trips. DH driving his truck with the Kitties and me towing my plants and a few special things that I don't trust a mover with, and then we will fly back. My friend will care for the kitties while we are gone for a week or so. Then we will be driving back with the dogs, fish, and youngest son in my Pilot. Then the three of us will be flying back out in June for my oldest sons graduation from high school when we will all drive back again in his SUV. My daughter hasn't decided exactly what she wants to do yet. She has applied for several college all over the country but is really hoping for Arizona State. She will be almost 20 and hopefully ready to be on her own. If not I will drag her with us by her hair.

Casey

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Just a quick hi to all, especially the two new folks, Ernie & Suzie.

I usually post once a day or so, but I've been too busy the past couple of days and now there's not a hope in h**l of catching up. We went on a bit of a foliage drive on Sunday, Mom complaining all the way that the leaf colors weren't up to snuff. I think I'm going to start stuffing cotton in my ears as soon as we hit the door at home! DH keeps saying he's going to ask one of my brothers to invite our mother for a week or so just to get her off my back so I can get a breather. I have to say, it sure would be nice. Anyhow, we got to see some little towns and nice scenery in southern Connecticut and enjoyed gorgeous weather for a change. Weather still being nice yesterday, we tried to catch up with the leaves and twigs all over the yard and I even managed to get the tulip bulbs in the ground.

Best wishes to all who are feeling crappy. Hope you're all on the mend in no time (and that goes for the pup as well). Darius, have you tried a little vitamin E on that cut? I've used it to speed healing and it does seem to help.

Congratulations, Mary! I guess the last nasty weather rides were worth it in the end.

Maria, I'll cast my vote along with the others ---- get the dog! You can always board him if there's nobody to pet-sit when and if you want to travel. Houses can just feel too empty with only one living being rattling around in them. One of my mother's friends was very recently widowed and ended up adopting a cat because her house was just "too quiet". Glad you're doing so much better, health -wise.

We had a grand total of three trick or treaters last night. Now I can't even look at the cyber goodies with all this chocolate taunting me. The Reese's peanut butter cups are the worst --- they call me even in my sleep.

I know there's way more that I'd like to comment on, but honest, I'm supposed to be working and there's no way I can go back and read over the last couple of days worth of posts!

Bye for now.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Oh, Maria, how wonderful that you are actually going to "try" Samson in your own place. And as for travelling... when your grandchildren fall in love with him, your daughter will willingly keep him for you. He'll have TWO families, lucky dog!

Good news... I'm planning to stay overnight on my trip this week with IO1 who lives near the GA-FL line. That will make my first day's drive only about 7+ hours or so, and then maybe 4-5 the next day. Besides, I have wanted to meet her someplace other than in the Recipe Forum!

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Darius, that is wonderful. I hope you both have a great time. When are you leaving???

Samson and Maria. It even sounds good.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

LOL, Casey

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Casey, I'm planning to leave Thursday mid-morning. (I've become a late-sleeper, hate it, but haven't got back to my regular schedule yet.) I'll get to my sister's Friday afternoon. I still have reservations about her taking care of my plants, but I have no other choice until Molly gets her mobile home set and she can move. Your offer of SC is lovely, but there's the frost problem and I have too much invested in some of these plants (time and money over the years).

I invited myself to IO1's just to have a safe place to park/sleep off the interstate and she was gracious enough to say they have a spare bedroom and would love to have me. I believe it's a genuine offer (not just being nice) as we have become friends through recipes.

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

28 posts in a new thread and it's not even noon yet?! Well, at least here on the left coast. lol

Just wanted to drop a quick note to Darius - you lucky dog! I'd love to be in the same room with you and IO1, especially if that room was the kitchen. Oh, what a delightful visit that will be, and a welcome break in the midst of a long drive. Have a good trip! :-)

Back to lurking now. hehehe

Well I am sure you two will have a grand time heating up the kitchen with your recipes and gossip. A nice break from the drive and a check in point that can report back to us, HINT HINT will be nice. I am still not liking this trailer hauling thing in the mountains. Just my OCD getting the best of me.

Tutti, I know how you feel. I wake up to an hours worth of reading every morning. Makes me tired before I get out of my jammies.

Casey

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Mary that is a beautiful sunrise. I have to many nasty buildings in the way to get a shot like that. Simply breath taking.

Thanks for sharing
Casey

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

The way I see it, Carat, is that if all the other GOBs and GOBettes take care of everything, we don't *HAVE* to get out of our jammies. ;-)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Casey, I nixed thr trailer even though it means an extra trip with plants!

I just talked to the FL. Dept. of Ag inspections. It finally dawned on me that they have inspections at the state line! Turns out all of my plants should be fine as long as I have NO citrus plants. However, at the border I have to give them the address and telephone number of where the plants are going and they will send an inspector out to check for pests.

Casey, you might want to look into that when you get ready to move plants as many states have regulations.

What's OCD?

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Hi Max the vet called and gave me good not so good news. Jenny is recovering from last nights surgery nicely at this point. She was able to throw up a mass amount fiber material up and pass some more. The concern now is that she may be suffering lead posioning. The thing that showed on the xray was retrieved and appears to be lead. A blood test is needed to determine if she has this. Off to town now to see her. Thanking you all for your concern but you know if you met her you would know why I love her she is awesome.

Maria get the dog when you travel you can just buy himn a ticket of his own and send him to me.whats one more lol.

Darius how can you make oreos last a month you must have my recipe for oreo soup lol. Fill glass with oreos top off with milk eat with spoon then drink the leftovers ha ha.

Mary nice shot.

ok off to the vet

Maria, the dog sounds wonderful. We've only boarded Barney once, last Nov when we lost my dad. They took wonderful care of him, but were concerned they couldn't get any food in him. He was thin, but he's an old dog and very much a momma's boy. He didn't eat the first week I was gone when the kids were home with him so I wasn't surprised that he wouldn't eat for them either. Find some place you trust and leave him there a few times so he's used to it. He'll do great!

darius - sounds like a wonderful plan with a bonus! With you two in the kitchen, who knows what's the result!!

Time to rest again. So weak I can hardly do a thing. We got carpet laid in the bedroom yesterday and I really wanted to paint the room today but I'm too weak to do anything yet. Frustrating!
