Bloomin' Contest going to seed :)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Everyone was saying her name to get her to look at me. LOL She sort of cowers down and comes running with that big tail wagging.

Michele,

Guess "Heads & Beds & Paws & Claus" is out, huh?

How about "Rural Roots"?

Just a warning from a horse addict
The horse is so totally the cheapest part of having a horse!! Be sure you're ready (with a trainer and vet )before you get one!!

It's hard to guarantee them a good home if you end up not wanting to keep them.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Thank you. We actually already got the name of a good and reasonable vet from the dog breeders. Before we take on any large outdoor type critters, we plan to make sure we put up good fences. Hubby has experience with horses but that will be new to me. I enjoyed talking with the lady that sold us the puppy. She said we could call any time with any questions and I might take her up on it. She gave us two very good pieces of advice. The first thing she told us about horses was to make sure we have very good fences. She said her first horse when she was a young girl, got out and got hit and killed. :( The second thing she told us was to not buy the first horse we saw but to hold out for one that we really love. :)

I do hope some of the people that live closer will come and say hi once they see we are settled here. I have stopped to talk to 2-3. One of them is supposed to do the field but hasn't yet. His nephew stopped by Friday to look around. His sister did walk by and wave once. LOL I guess it isn't a whole lot differen than my other house.

Kernersville, NC(Zone 7a)

I am so excited for you to be almost done! I really, really like your Bloomin' Pot name, that is clever and easy to remember, plus people will call it Michele's, that is a great name.

I'm just glad my neighbor's don't throw things or throw up fingers instead of waving, so I think you are doing pretty good in the new neighborhood!

Country neighbors aren't quit like, say 20 to 30 years ago. Then the farmers shared a lot of machines & traded work. Now that farms have gotten so big, everyone is on their own, so to speak. Also with the economy as it is, people are busier trying to make ends meet, so just run out of time to be neighborly.
Last winter a couple of neighbors threw a party for a couple that moved back to our area to retire. Most neighbors came by & it was a good time had by all. Since then things went back to normal, you talk & greet each other if you see someone somewhere, but not much going out of the way to visit.
I'm sure your neighbors will come around a time goes along.
Old farmer thing, wave at everyone!
Bernie, waving.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Bernie, I spend so much time waving and nodding (when my hands are full) that my right arm hurts. LOL The kids wave at everyone and jump up and down when someone waves back. :)

Last night as we were coming back here, I came zipping up over the hill only to have a car stopped dead in the road. I slowed way down and could see a trail of fluids about 6 cars long between us. A panic stricken woman was standing in the road. I slowed down and asked if she was alright and we could see the antlers sticking out from under her car. She told me she had hit a deer and asked me to call her husband. I pulled up in front of her car to get out of the way of traffic.

As I was dialing, a man and boy in a truck stopped. They were on the way home from a day of hunting and saw a huge buck in the road and came back to get a better look. They were a few seconds too late. This thing went under her car when she hit it and she apparently dragged it quite a bit. Her front end was smashed with her hood open and steam and liquids were coming from all parts of her engine. The hunter called for help while I kept his son out of the road.

The lady was a bawling mess (much as I would be and nearly was anyway!). She said her car was moving. That deer was pinned underneath it and trying to get out. He was raising the whole front of the car up off the ground. I can't even say how sick I felt and was on the verge of tears and am again now just telling about it. The lady begged me to take her home to get her husband. Poor girl was probably not 500 feet from her house. She was almost home. The hunter told her she should stay and she kept telling him she just lived right up the road. So I made room for her in my car, along with six kids, two dogs and everything we had managed to stack and cram into the car. Here she is shaking and crying and I am apologizing because my car was packed. LOL I bet she didn't notice a thing. I have her number from trying to reach her husband and I will probably call her today to see if she is alright. Lucky for her she was driving a SUV. When a hunter says the deer was huge and he came back to see it, you know it was BIG!

Welcome to the country!

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Who got to have the deer ?
I new you would meet your neighbors sooner or later.
Have a great day!
Bernie

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

LOL I am fairly certain the lady did not want it. I saw a police car fly by me and stop at her car. I imagine it was between the cop, the hunter and the tow truck driver LOL

The lady actually lives "downtown", which is about a mile from me. :)

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Chele, now that is a new way of getting to know your neighbors. That poor deer. It is so sad when an animal has to die for no reason and at the hand of a machine. Hopefully who ever got the deer was able to salvage most of the meat. What a waste if not.
I hope the woman is feeling better today. I would have been hysterical if it was me. She is very lucky that she was not seriously hurt if the deer was that large. My father hit a small deer when I was a kid and it did some pretty good damage to his truck and the deer jumped up and took off. So things could have been much worse.

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

YES Chele...could have been much worse!! If you had come through there just a little earlier...it might have been you! Watch for the deer now..they are on the move!! When farmers clear their fields...deer start moving!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

There are so many deer in our town this fall! Howie hit a doe around 1:00am one morning coming home from the store a couple weeks ago.

They say folks bond during times of crisis, so maybe this lady and her family will end up friends.

Badseed,

Since there was so much participation in the names, what about taking the top 5 or 10 that you like, and then seeing if Dave would put it up for the Voting Booth, and see what the masses like?

/didn't submit a name

The salon would have to be called something like Sundown Salon, Sunset Salon or Night Owl Salon, because you would never catch me doing hair while the sun is shining! LOL

I just realized that I hadn't seen a post in forever..well I slipped off about two threads ago apparently so I just had to read both the naming thread and this thread to catch up...(le pant le pant)

All this to explain and hope that my suggestion for a name hasn't been said and I missed it in the fast reading..

If the salon is going to be sundown salon ....
For the nursery;;;

I am still alive. I have been without computer and/or internet the last 24 hours. Everything is set up now except the landline. We need to call on that. The kids started school today and we are potty training the puppy. She is such a sweetie and learning things quickly. She will sit and shake with some guidance and has already learned "no". I clapped my hands and saie no every time she went for the garbage. I stopped saying no and just clapped. She decided she didn't like the garbage making that noise at her and just sat down and growled at it. LOL

I am having a slow day today trying to organize things. I guess I will slip out and plant some stuff in a bit. Since it is the first day of school, I want to stay close to home and make sure to be here when the kids get home. Tomorrow I will be off and running again. :)

Oh man, the first day at a new school!! It could be exciting, but also hard to manuver through the new school rooms and schedules.

Since my DH was in the AF for all of my DD's life, she started in many new schools everywhere we moved. I think she enjoyed it, as it was a way to make new friends within the the area we lived. There was only one school that she hated and couldn't wait for us to move....it was a school that had a lot of gang activity and she was scared most days. That's when we decided it was time to finally buy our first home and DH put in for retirement. We finally got to pick where we WANTED to live and for DD to finish her school years. Best decision we ever made. lol

My little dog, Rags the Shitzu, is 13yrs. old and is losing his hearing. He doesn't here me say no anymore, so I clap my hands also and he hears it. He doesn't like it either and usually stops what he is doing and runs.

Just chill out today in your new home and settle in for a bit...you deserve a little Michele time. If you have time, check out my little project for a rainy day. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/554465/

BTW, should I delete your old email addy from my computer now?

badseed, glad to read of your recent activities. Many great names for your consideration. Glad you got a Lab that you love, and great name.

I don't know what the rules are about using a name that is already in use, but there is a Petal Pushers nursery near Spokane WA.

Hope you sell your other house quickly. And also glad you are taking a little time to yourself. Take care. DonnaS

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi Donna! Believe it or not, I did have a slow day yesterday. I only planted a couple dozen lilies and the same amount of hems. The rows of pots on the sidewalk are finally dwindling. LOL I managed to get part of the kitchen put together and attacked the living room also. Oh, my new email is badseed@cinci.rr.com I will take it off here in a couple of days.

The kids had a great day at school and have already made several friends. One lovely little boy referred to me as "the psycho pond digging, plant digging, lawn mowing lady". Just like the old house! hahahaha I was concerned about the transition from montessori learning to traditional style teaching but it seems like they will be okay. It was most different for the oldest that went from having one teacher for the whole day, for three years in a row, to having six teachers a day. I think they'll be alright though.

Thank you Donna. It is really nice to here from you. I hope you are feeling well now. :)

I plan to run to the other house today and get stuff done but they are predicting nasty storms with hail so who knows! See y'all soon.

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

Yikes.. I hope it bypasses your area.. (but I know that means it just bothers someone else :( Maybe they'll just be wrong.. that's a good chance with weathermen.. of course there's that HUGE weather station close to your house so I guess if they know the conditions anywhere they shoudl know it there.. (aren't I helpful?)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

LOL I just called around about railroad ties and am going to get those delivered and get my greenhouse put back together. I'll need my chainsaw which means I have to run to the other house. I guess I'll load up the sub with empty boxes and head out. I have to be back here by 2pm so hubby can leave for work. I checked the weather and it says isolated storms ending this morning. I might be alright. :)

Chele,

I would keep a close eye on them. After awhile, traditional teaching might get boring and less challenging and they may loose interest. Hopefully, their learning skills are strong enough that they will be able to keep themselves interested and possibly pass that along to their classmates.

Jody

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

It spit here once before I left but I got down to the other house and back with decent weather, aside from the wind. :) My car is stuffed full and I remembered the chain saw! Now I just wish I felt like doing something. I'll sure be glad when this thing passes. I am about to call for antibiotics!

Thank you Jasmerr. I do keep an eye on their homework. I help them when they need it or otherwise just look it over and make sure they know what they are doing. Right now they are loving the 'newness' of things, things being different and switching classes. I just wish their kindergarten was every day. Poor Lillie misses going every day. I do have to say I met the teachers and they seem really nice. I guess we will see how day 2 went. LOL

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

That is strange, not going every day. What days does she have Kindergarten?

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

That IS different.. Here in the county it's every day for half the day.. In town they go all day. WHen we moved out of town the kidlet missed the all day kindergarden. SO did Mommy

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Apparently they do not have enough teachers so they go M, W and every other Friday or Tu and Th and every other F. BUT, you have to keep an eye on the calender they send because the Fridays do not always work out. What a pain! Lillie is accustomed to going full time every day and now she can only go 2-3 days a week. I see it as a set back. I did not quite understand what the lady in the office said, but I think she said they go to kindergarten for 2 years??? I will have to look into this some more.

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Our district has 4 yr. old Kindergarten (which is basically 'pre-school') and 5-yr. old Kindergarten.

The 4 yr. old Kindergarten parents are allowed to choose...all day 2 days a week and every other Friday, or 1/2 days every day....(.I think that's how it worked....geesh...it's only been two years!)

5 yr old Kindergarteners go all day, every day.

Every district does it differently, I've noticed.

I'd consider that change a setback, too! Poor girl.....they so love school at that age!

* .. Badseed .. *

Not bein' a patoot .. but, there are far too many threads associated to your naming the 'farm' .. for me to keep up with. .. lol ..

Any progress and/or decisions yet ?

A very MERRY and BLESSED CHRISTMAS .. to you and your lively crew Chele' !!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

How bizarre! I went to the 'bloomin contest' post to make and update and it says it is closed. I forgot about this post. How silly am I? I cannot keep up with my own posts. LOL

I am really thinking about going with something like "Meyer Family Plant Ranch" or "Meyer's Plant Ranch". I think it is simple enough, includes the family name which would imply longevity, could be passed down, includes all sorts of plants and no specialty, has nothing to do with the sex or number of children I have, etc. It would be easy enough for someone to say they bought from the Meyers or were running over to the Meyers. Nothing is set in stone but this is where I am leaning. :)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Do you think people might mistake a friend saying "Meyers" vs. "Meijers" and go to the megamart? LOL

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Or the Winery or should I say Whine-are-we? :)

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

Ahhh, what pure genius there .. henry10 !! .. lol ..
