I must tell you a story about lamb. The very first dinner I had in Rehoboth at the home of my in-laws and where Richard still lived was a leg of lamb. I remember thinking , oh, oh, Papa said mutton is for peasants, we do not eat that, now was he ever the arrogant Viennese! Of course, I did not say that. After eating it I thought it the most delicious meat I have ever had and still is my favorite besides beef. What could be better than a juicy lamb chop or a rack of lamb?
After we were married we raised Suffolk sheep to keep the land down and also to be butchered, but smart animals they were not, LOL

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

Hi All:

Just want to let you know that I am having trouble getting the next installment of the current story completed. We have had a break in the rain here, and I have been catching up in the yard. This morning I propagated 10 or 12 coleus (actually stole cuttings from K's pots and planted them in my starting bed, removed and replanted a pup off my giant tree fern, and trimmed the chain-link fence behind my hibiscus/croton hedge - all while supervising Brian who pressure washed about half our white board fence.

This is our inverted Spring. Everythng is growing like crazy. Yesterday we planted 27 tomato plants, and my small patch of sweet corn is doing well.

Don't dispair, I will get back to the story soon.

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

Welcome to coffee Playa and will wait patiently for next installment you are very busy now!
Best to you both

Good morning everyone. Rain is forecast but I don't think it will amount to much. My plan is to get out there and work on the flower beds, a slow project since I am widening as I go along so that means digging out sod which needs to be hauled down to my dump pile and then on the return trip old manure is brought back up the hill. Good exercise!

Carat, here's the link for my endurance riding adventures. It has grown into 3 threads that are all linked so get a cup of coffee and settle down for the long haul. http://thegatheringplace.myzf.com/module/forums/t/13737 I hope you enjoy the trips, pictures and all.

Time to get my breakfast and get out in the dirt. Everybody have a great day. See you later.

good morning your prolific writers and busy people :)
i'm crawling out of the abyss of a bad hard drive here, and
have been reading for two days to try to catch up with you
wonderful gobs & gobettes - i'm still not done!

with no computer to distract me, i've been planting
non-stop. it's still so warm here i have a hard time believing
it's mid-october. sarv reminded me to take geranium
cuttings today. in my absence from gobdom, i've been
infected with another virus: daylilies. i planted 28 different
kinds last weekend.

okay, back to the garden. the pot ghetto is jumping up and
down hollering at me through the kitchen window.

Welcome to thread, Playa! Help yourself to any of the goodies left no the counter by our visitors. And don't worry about not being able to keep up with THIS thread...it's hard for any of us to do. But we do like the company.

Maria...my mom (a native Australian) used to tell me the same thing about 'mutton'. But growing up in Oklahoma in the 50's we didn't see much lamb in the stores. I do remember one time, I can't remember how, Mama managed to get some lamb chops. I remember her putting them in the broiler and guarding them as though someone was about to steal her last meal. LOL (I don't think we kids even got a taste)

~julie~

ok, they're still hollering at me, but had to say i've never been able to eat lamb, or even consider it. my favorite stuffed toy was a lamb with a wind-up music box inside ... cutest little thing with pink ears. i still have it. my mother used to tell me when she fed me baby food lamb, i'd throw it right back up. kinda gross, but methinks i was born with an aversion to lamb.

am really going outside now.
maybe ...

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Morning GOBs and Ettes!

I don't know if I didn't set the alarm or if I got up and shut it off, but Nathan was late for school today 'cuz I slept in. Dh woke us all up when he got home from work, otherwise Jenna would have been late for school too.

I've been playing with Magoo in the test forum, anyone else want to come play too?

I got my bulbs ALL planted this morning, whew, hard work that. (ok, ok, I only had 4 hyacinths, but I was trying to keep up with you all!)

I was happy to see so many GOBS drop into chat last night! We really had a full room, at one point there was 19 chatters. Even I had trouble keeping it straight.

I'm off to play with Mags a bit more, then I need to run to Big Lots for a few more big pots. And then to Lowes for some paint for my window shelves, the grocery store, the post office....ummm.....the brain store cuz I need a new one.....ummm.......hmm......where did I put that list???

mg

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

See you there then gonna get the boy off the bus and run to target but will still be here to play before and after ROTF

second warning - VERY silly, and fun!

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

MG~ you are to much. Such the trouble maker. Going to have to watch out for you I think. At least I know I can out run ya if need be.

Mary thanks so much for the link. I will be sitting down and reading it for lunch time entertainment.

My fax machine DIED this morning. Phone rang, heard it was a fax so I hung up, finished making the bed and as I walked out of my room to see what the fax was I see cloud of smoke coming from the computer room. The dang thing was melting away and man did it smell. YUCK. Had to run up to Office Depot and get a new fax machine, can't seem to get the new one to work, and of course the realtor is trying to fax me some papers for the property.
I tell ya some days it doesn't pay to have been born the good looking one instead the brainy one.

carat - when you're that good looking you don't have to be smart. All you need to do is smile and half the county will jump in to do whatever needs doing!!!!

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

What's the third option?

mg

Starkville, MS

My understanding is that you can be beautiful and dumb, or ugly and smart, but you can't be dumb and ugly. The variations are infinate (make 'em up as needed)!!!

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Afternoon everyone- I'm a dragging..... Cleaned the stroke cousins house - it was filthy. He has mini blinds in his bedroom and bathroom and they are gross - dirty and caked with who knows what. I took them down, thinking that I would put them in the tub and scrub them, but then decided just to buy him new ones. He won't know the difference. His mind is not right at all. I told his mom( my aunt) that he needed a new dish pan and new bathroom rugs. Today he said 'here Sue, my mom send these for you" = they were his dish pan and rugs. I thanked him and put the rugs down and the dishpan in the sink - he won't even know. He is a bad chain smoker and the walls and curtains are orange - yuck. He also runs a heater all day and today I noticed it wasn't plugged in and the cord was all melted and the outlet black - fire waiting to happen. I need to get a smoke detector for him too. Oh it is just so sad.

Then I stopped and got pizza and breadsticks for a niece and her kids. They are having a hard time making ends meet - got a big one and left the leftovers for their dinner tonight if they want. Their mom died at 43 and they are all alone and floundering.

Stopped on the way home and chatted with my mom - gave her some sudoku puzzles to try.

Now I'm home for the day and just want to crash. Hope DH will do the dinner duty tonight.

I've read all the posts, but just don't have the oomph to reply to all of them - thinking of you all and hope things are going super in your life!!

Starkville, MS

sarv - not to burden you more, but will a smoke alarm really help? If the burning wire wasn't noticed, will the alarm be of any use? I wish I could send a real meal to your niece and family, instead of "cyber food".

Rest, put your feet up for a bit. If you don''t "do dinner", he will get hungry and fix something!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

You are an Angel, Sarv, that is tough to clean up after some one like that, and to have so little on top it. I am still so very tired, feel just want to sleep.
Let me clear something , tgif, one cannot be beautiful and dumb, lol you just end up being the loser, it the smarts that count.
Maria

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Thanks aria, guess I am in trouble then.

Well everyone put your hands together and say a prayer for the Office Depot guy. Im headed back up there with the stupid cord that he insisted I had to have because it is the only one that will work. The fact that it was 30.00 more then the others had something to do with it I think. Well I called the manufacturer because I couldn't get it going, and they tell me that the USB he sold me had been recalled for defects 2 months ago. Figures.

Hope all is well with you all.
Casey

Starkville, MS

aria - you're probably right. Since I'm more or less none of any, I am forced to quote the above statement Lacking experience in any of the fields, I'm not beautiful or smart, but I don't think I'm dumb and ugly, either. That leaves me free to do what I please without the burden of defining myself. I'm just ME! and glad to be.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

sarv you go beyond the call of duty. I gather this cousin lives alone. Doesn't sound like he should be living alone. Are there any resources available to him?

carat - that's a pretty fuzzy dead fax machine! lol
Seriously, hope you get the problems sorted out.

Maria, if you don't feel lots better by the end of the week get yourself back to the doctor.

Ann

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

I most certainly feel a lot better. My daughter just left and said , you are tons better, Mama, but please keep resting so it will not come back , and it could. I am just still a bit tired,
Now am beginning to worry about Wilma coming up the east coast, rain we will certainly get again but hope the storm will go out to sea before it comes here, feels so badly for Florida.
My MIL always said , "beauty is as beauty does" and remember
also that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Though I have not seen you but I imagine all of you are beautiful people.
Maria

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

well we can start what they did in the pet forum
Post your picture and put a face to the name!
Just an idea.
Maras glad you are feeling better -- I have been held hostage by mg in the test thread
*running and hiding again*

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Most willing hostage I've ever seen! She gets me hooked then complains when she has fun, how do you like that?

Humph.

mg

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh did I get you hooked?
OOPS sorry I will be here if you need any counseling in the future!!
LMAO
Have not laughed this much in years
OOPS
gotta run back to test they are fast over there
A

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Okay, fax machine is up and running again. Thanks for the support.

Sarv you sure do have your hands full. They are truly blessed to have you around. Have you checked into a having a security system put in with the help of state assistance for the disabled. They may even pay for the whole thing if need be, you can have smoke, fire, and emergency alarms placed so if something does happen they proper departments would be notified even if he doesn't realize it. Just a thought.

Maria, that cough has got to go. I think you should at least give the doctor a call and let them know you are still not feeling better and set up an appointment for Friday. If it goes away by then you can always call and cancel. Not good to start the cold season of feeling lousy.

Well I am far from being beautiful but my brother always tells me he got the brains in the family, so I figure I better have gotten the beauty if he got the brains.

Viola the fuzzy thing is my Kitty. I took him to get his shots today, and have him weighed. He is 25.7 pounds. They believe he has a tyroid problem. Ya Think?????

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

That's not a cat, that's a small lion!

WOW! A tubby tabby? A hunka cat? A ummm never mind....

mg

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

He looked about as far out as your fax machine reported to be. He sure is a hunk.
Ann

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

He is quite the character. When he trys to clean his belly he has to lean up against the wall or a piece of furniture so he doesn't fall over backwards then he uses one arm to pull the belly up and to get it close to his mouth. I have to give him a bath every Saturday morning because he can't clean his back he is so big. And yes he is now declawed. My feet and legs couldn't handle the bath times any more.

Ann, I checked and he weights more then the new fax machine LOL.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

I have to lean up again the wall to get my pants, socks on!! LOL

My cousin is a poor soul - we grew up together and he was so much fun - witty, wild, full of the dickens. Now he is just a shell. He has a son, two brothers and one sister - but no one gives him a hand. I think he tells them he is just fine. I clean because my aunt mentioned that she wished she could find someone to do it- and I was newly retired and said I would. Had I know what a disaster it was and is- I never would have agreed to it. I have spoken to his son, but he thinks things are fine.(and he is there daily as they run a well drilling business) oh well, enough of that. Some people just live in squalor (sp x)

Oh doesn't that just tick you off when they insist you need a certain thing and it is wrong!! I am losing my faith in people because of that - seems like no one knows or cares anymore. Everything for the almighty dollar.

DH made chili for dinner - it tasted good- a bit spicy, but good. I took a shower and am in my pj's and it isn't even 7pm!! What a wild woman I am tonight!!

Maria, glad you are on the mend- just take it easy. I too hope Wilma doesn't come your way - you've had enough moisture for months!! We are expecting frost tonight- and my brugs are all outside. Oh well, the roots will survive. All the geraniums I dug are under the deck, so I think they will be fine.

Just heard on the news that there's a breakthru in breast cancer. I live in fear of that and am so tired of hearing about it everyday on the boob tube. I know- turn it off!!

I'm off to the chair and my book...hope I sleep better tonight...

Starkville, MS

sarv - don't leave the chair until you have dozed of and dropped the book at least three times. Then go to bed. Or, do like me and read in bed, so that after you have dropped it three times, all you have to do is slide down a little and drift off to lala land.
If I have to go from a chair to the bed I wake up too much to fall back to sleep.

I wish everyone a good night and a beautiful morning.

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

You were talking about fat cats. My vet had one that was so fat that its skin was tight. It weighed 26 pounds, and had a body and neck so large that it made the head look small. There were no wrinkles in its skin. It actually looked like a fur seal.
