Carat- join us in Chat - Tues at 7-10 pm and Thurs am 7-10 EST I think!! (you are in a different time zone, so I don't know what time it will be for you!) Go to the home page and look in the upper right corner - it will say chat- click on that. It's loads of fun...even if you can't keep up - you'll learn!!

Maria - glad you are amongst the living. Thank your lucky stars that you have money!! I'm still waiting to win the lotto!! My parents are spending like they are millionaires - I think they still think they are living when 1,000 was big bucks! I keep telling my mom not to give away any more $$ - she is so generous. Says it comes back threefold, but I don't think she understands things!! She's a treasure tho. I'm the investment person in our family. I have everything on a spread sheet and update it every quarter. Then I store the info in our safe, so that should we leave this world, the kids have everything in one place for them. They both know I do this, so hopefully there won't be a problem. DH is completely clueless in the finance area- thank goodness he's not a spender.

M5 - dug up and potted 20 some geraniums, a huge lantana, two heliotropes that never flowered all summer (gonna try them again next yr). I've got them soaking up some water. I'll cut them way back in a day or so and bring them in under lights. Still have about 20 more to dig up. Good job done! well almost done!

Weather is gorgeous - cool and sunny - just right for working in the gardens. Also lugged about 10 huge pails of water for the brugs- they were all wilty and I want them to bloom one more time before it freezes.

I just can't tell you how wonderful it is to feel good! I'll probably crash tomorrow, but today was wonderful - great to be alive!!

good grief- are we all on-line now!!! Carat - we ALL want you to join us!! LOL

I propose a chat topic, and for those that are relunctant (sp??) to join in chat, we can also discuss it here.

When I win the Powerball Lottery tomorrow night, what can I get for you? Pay off mortgages of course, new cars all around, but what about that dream item?

Oh, and the month long cruise for all of us.......

I want a cottage on a lake....I'll even invite everyone to stay for a week or so.

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Done, which lake in which state?

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Me again. The leaves are sure pretty in town, lots of old trees there and they are making a gold carpet on the lawns. I did some shopping and tried not to stay in town too long.

Carat, the sport of endurance riding has been around for a long time but is not well known even in the horse world. It is like a marathon done on horseback, and we compete for a lot of the same reasons, such as to see if we can do it, to see the country, to spend the day on a horse, to complete the course faster than last year, etc. In addition to year end awards we also get daily awards, usually something horse related. Endurance rides happen all over the US and Canada, also in many foreign countries. Most of the rides are one day events. I have a horse trailer with a small living space so when I go to a ride I stay in my trailer, eat mostly out of my ice chest (no cooking) and have the horse tied to the side of the trailer right outside the door. Most endurance rides are out in the middle of nowhere so there are no accomodations except what you can bring with you. Sometimes we ride loops out of camp and return periodically all day, sometimes we ride one big loop with vet checks and rest times out on the trail. I do ride for a team (not doing so well this year although we have won the team competition in the past), but mostly I just add to my own mileage and points tally as well as that of my horses. If you want to read a bunch more about my endurance riding adventures I can send you to a site where I have been writing about them this season. Anybody else interested? then I'll post it here.

Maria, I hope you feel better soon. Get lots of rest and drink all the water and juice you can hold. I can relate to the not knowing anything about the finances, my hubby takes care of all of it. He is way better organized than I am and he loves getting everything into it's proper place, being able to be up to the minute paying bills, etc.

I took the truck to town, the hydraulic sensor is going out. It's a computer thing I think. Not good, not cheap, and not under the warranty. We might just call it Christmas. Even though it is still working at this point I don't want to be stranded out in the middle of nowhere with a horse and trailer so we are having it replaced now and saving the trouble, tow, inconvenience, etc.

Ok, time to be outside. Sunny afternoon going to waste, leaves falling, gentle breeze, ah!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Had a nice little rest but the minute I get up I cough but not as long as before.
Sarv, wish I lived near you could have used some of your financial expertise, Yes, my husband is still taking care of me, he did ot want me go without should he die before me , I did tell you some time ago what a wonderful human being he was
I think will try chat room tonight but may not say much of anything worth talking about, just love to read what everyone has to say.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Didn't go to Lowes with hubby. When walking out the door I was met by the Fed Ex man. Wonderful dreams for later tonight. Sorry, back to the story. He brought me a present from a close friend who lives up in Washington state. She sent me the lastest Nora Roberts book, a bottle of wine, apples and caramel all wrapped up in warm and fuzzy throw.

So for a snack the apples are cut up and on the bar and the caramel will be out of the micro in just moment. Wine glasses are on the rack above and if you prefer yours chilled they are on the bottom shelf of the freezer.

Ding............... Caramel is on ladies. No pushing there is plenty for all.

Chat says 1 hour and 7 minutes.

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Oooo Yum Carat, now I have caramel dripping down my chin.

Your friend sounds like a jewel! I'm hooked on Nora too, and that fuzzy blankie sounds snuggley.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Mary please do send me that link. Kudo's to you. I don't think I could that. I love nature, I love animals but when I am done I love my jacuzzi, fireplace, warm blanket and the movie channel.

Maria, although coughing is hard on you doing it when you get up is good. It allows for everything that has settled to break loose and come up so you get it out and back to feeling better. When you don't cough when getting up but still feel as though your lungs are heavy that you have a big problem. Gods speeding in getting better. Sorry but no caramel for you, but I am heating up some nice chicken broth and you can have a slice of the fresh bread on the counter to the left of apples.

Sarv can I ask why you don't want mom and dad spending their savings???

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Yeh, CARAT, I wouldn;t mind knowig either. I argued with my folks to let loose....I told them that they would be in the next bed in a nursing home next to someone that was paying a forture because that person had saved all their money....Why give it to Drs. (MY sone is and internest, so I'm not against Dr.s) and nursing home and pharmacies? I am going to spend MY money, that "I" earned on things "I" like to do,,,,NOW....I'm too old to save for later, I'm 65.....DAG NAB IT this IS later.......All that I want now is fast growing trees, etc. Don't have time to wait for things to Marure.......get my drift.

Anyway....probably said too much, but that's me....What's in my head comes out my mouth. It's a very personal thing, I know. My husband is 71, 72 next month, and he is still saving for "The Rainy Day". For this birthday this year I'm going to get him an unbrella...lol Even after his heart attack, he still doesn't get the picture that This Is It......Spend it before we're in wheel chairs....

There I went again.....Nite.

Well chatty bunch today. I have been on the go since about 9:30 this morning. Put away all my cushions on the chairs on the deck, emptied and put away some planters, planted 60 tulips, 60 daffodils, a gazillion iris, dug up tiny daffodils, have about 2 gallon of them. Going to plant some of them tomorrow in another location.. Clipped on my pedometer this morning and I have walked a total of 2.78 miles. I don't think I need an exercise plan. Of course I don't do that everyday, but I would imagine it wouldn't vary much. Going to DM tomorrow to clean up her storage building, store some fruit jars, and empty some that have spoiled. Will take some of the daffs to her, to put in the new bed I made there.

Carat those apples and caramel sound so good. May I have some?

Aria, glad you are a little better. Just drink plenty of fluids and rest, maybe by the end of the week you will feel much better.

Sarv, glad you are feeling good and full of energy today. Seems you got a lot accomplished too.

Excuse me everyone, I read all your posts, but didn't take notes, so don't mean to leave anyone out but I am so tired that I am getting punchy.

Ok who was the pharmacy tech? Can I ask a question? DMIL claims that a med that the Dr. prescribed is making her dizzy. Can you tell me if there is that possibility with Imdur? She is so contrary, she says she isn't going back to my Dr, as he changed all her meds, and she doesn't feel as well. Won't use her walker, so has fallen 4 times in the last few days. GRRRRRRR, she makes me so mad.

Well, since I am sweaty from today's work, going to hit the shower, then sit and read. I may check into CHAT later.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Julie,

You asked for a picture of the garden? Well, talk about a blank canvas, I haven't even got the house in yet. But by this time next month it should be there. I had a picture last week of this area, but you couldn't see it clear since there were a few more trees that needed to come down. Well it's done now.

Off in the distance on the right you can see some living room furniture. I could pull you leg and tell you the store delivered it too soon, but I'm too tired to pull your leg. Someone was using my place as a party lounge. Not sure what to do with that couch, chair and love seat. Dig a big hole and push it in and bury them?

I left the house this morning at 6:30 and headed up to the property. Met with the young lady who is doing the permit work. We flagged off the areas for the septic, well and location for the mobile home. Oh yes, I handed over some money so they would get moving on the details.

I think I'll have a glass of wine and go harass yall over in chat.

carat - it's not that I don't want my folks spending their money - they are giving it to my kids, us, practically anyone. They don't have much left and should they need nursing home care- there won't be much for them to use. The homes around here are mainly private - the medicade ones are really bad. Private ones are very expensive...

just got kicked outta chat room for being inactive. Never got that before, but I was sipping on a malt and couldn't type. Said I was invaded by a foreign host!! What is that?? Gonna try again.

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Hi everyone,

A special "hi" to Tutti for just joining in.

aria/Maria, glad to know you're feeling better.

kooger, I'm the one with the treadle machine who's looking (desperately!) for bobbins. If by any chance yours is a Davis with the 36mm long bobbins, would you possibly consider selling just one? I expect it's more likely that you have a Singer with the shorter bobbins. I have some of those, but they just don't work with this machine.

Hmmmm, now I'm trying to type while balancing my supper on my lap. We're having the last of the left-over lasagna that DH made last week with some grocery store rotisserie chicken --- somewhat lacking in the veggie department, but it will do. I'll have to sign off soon to go start on the meat and rice stuffing for peppers for later in the week. When you don't get home until 7:30 at the earliest, you just have to get the cooking (and everything else) in when and if you can.

Carat, I'm sure glad that YOU didn't get the weather we had last week. It was bad enough here, there it would have been an outright disaster!

sarv, glad to hear you've been feelling good for a change.

mg, glad you're back. Hope you enjoy the chat room. I'm going to attempt it again sometime, but not tonight --- too much still waiting for me to do before bedtime.

Molly, it's looking GOOD! I wish my neighborhood looked like that.

Good luck, Mary. I hope you find that you've gained ground once the figures are available.

Anne, I keep forgetting to say that I appreciate all the good you've done with your food bank job. I think that a certain amount of "burn-out" comes with the territory in a job like that though. I hope you enjoy your retirement.

I know that I've missed some people --- sorry! I'm almost to the babbling stage now and have to get going on the next chore. See you tomorrow.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Sarv, well as far as nursing homes go whether they are medicaid and state run or private it is the people doing the work that make it what it is. Personally I couldn't put my parents in a home. That is why they lived and died in my home. Not for everyone, but it is what I can live with.

I just was listening to a lady while at the lab having blood work done. She was upset that her mom and dad were spending HER money on stupid stuff. Really upset me and then I read your post and I really needed to ask. Sorry for being nosey.

Okay all the apples are gone, I just finished eating the rest of the caramel out of the jar with my fingers and the bottle of wine is empty. What a night. Didn't even open the book though. Will do that tomorrow.

Hope you all had a wonderful night and your tomorrows are filled with hope.
Casey

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Thanks, McCool.
I think I've avoided burn-out for a long time by having a lot of other interests and periodically, I just disappear. But I've been at it for a long time (since the beginning of 1989) and when I'm honest with myself, I know the program will benefit by having someone fresher and younger look after most of the details - especially organizing fund-raising. I expect to still be around helping out and if we hire the candidate I think we will, I have a hunch that he won't even feel threatened by my presence a bit; so I may not have to distance myself for very long.

TuttiFrutti - happy salsa canning. ;-)

Molly - what an exciting time seeing that house take shape and working with your blank canvas. Keep the pictures coming.

Gonna go watch the news on TV and crochet a bit. Will go into the Food Cupboard tomorrow morning to open up and get my date entry person started. Then I'm off for the rest of the day with the Red-Hatters.

Good night all.

Ann

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

McCool - the machine is a Domestic and I think I measured the bobbins and they were 30 mm so that would not fit for ur machine. so sorry! I'll put it on my list for the next time we go thru the antique shops. Sometimes u find little things like that.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well since I last posted, had a shower, shaved the old sticks, sat and began a new book. Read about 100 pages, now I am trying to catch up. I read every word of every post, but am not commenting individually on anything tonight. I just realized how very tired I am from my work today. But with my energy, I got to work when the energy is there. Maybe tomorrow will be an easier day.

Well thanks for the snacks, the apples and caramel were very good. Since I haven't set anything on the counter in a few days, what would you all like for breakfast. Let me know and I will make it.

Have a restful night, dream the fluffy type dreams, and wake "rarin to go". Hope all the aches/pains/flu/cough/colds/sinus/allergies are healed instantly overnight.

D-cat~~Yes, Imdur can make you dizzy, it dilates the blood vessles. DIzziness is a very common side effect with nitrates, and if she drinks any alcohol it can make it really bad.

does this help? Oh, here is a link:

Morning everyone! Slept like last night- tossed and turned and felt like my mind was going a mile a minute. Could it be the huge malted that DH made me at 8:30pm?? It sure was good going down!!

Carat- I could not keep my folks-. Our house is not set up good at all - tons of stairs etc. But I don't mind you asking at all. My Grandma was in a nursing home for 5 yrs. One of the family members visited with her daily. She was pretty much out of it - not sure if it was drugs or age stuff. Hope it never comes to that for them - they are so active - go somewhere daily and are both 81. But I will care for them until they can no longer care for themselves. I just am concerned about them giving all their $$ away (they have 15 kids between them and some are unscrupulous)

Today I go and clean my stroke cousins house - gotta remember to put a new pair of rubber gloves in the cleaning stuff. You wouldn't be how filthy it is. I come home and immediately shower. Plus it is so smokey, that I gag.

Did ya hear the hurricane is a cat 5 now! Whew - that sure happened quick!

Maria- when I have the crud, I can't lay down - causes me to cough - I end up sleeping in a lazy boy chair.

Have some honey crisp apples on the counter- the absoslute best in the world. Help yourself- I'm going to put some paint on the face and poof up the hair so I can go out in public

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Good Morning every one, just woke up and not bccause I coughed
but I know I will as the day goes by. I know what you mean, Sarv, I prop up four pillows so to almost sit up all night.
I am suppose to get the flue shot on the 22, now I wonder if it is a good idea????????????
Have to go for a walk to help my back
Maria

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Good Morning everyone!
Well it looks like our summer weather is just about over here. (Finally!) I'm still waiting for the frost to take out the cannas, glads, and a couple of dahias I have in pots.

Yesterday, I sorted the dissarray of plastic pots and misc items I'd being 'storing' in my little green house units, got them packed into those *wonderful* new HUGH ziploc storage bags, and took the greehouses down...folded them up...and (M5 are you listening?? LOL) got them back into their storage bags. No small feat let me tell ya. :-D

M5, if you didn't get around to using yours this spring...I can't recommend them highly enough. Those three units are honestly the best bargin ($25.00 ea) I've ever found.

Now I have to clean out the debris that has collected under the riser deck that the greenhouses were on. Then stack things back under it so I can find it all when spring comes again.

Molly, when you said 'blank canvas' you said a mouthful! hehehe But it's such a nice piece of property that it won't be 'blank' for long! When will your house be delivered? And when will the septic system be installed? (I've been in your situation of waiting to get into a house several times...and I know just what you're going through. But! My hat's off to you cuz I've never had to do it all on my own. Keep up the good work, girl! You're doing great!)

Maria, I hope that today is a little easier than yesterday for you. And I hope the days continue to get better.

I wonder how Darius is doing today. (HI Darius!! Just wanted you to know we're thinking of you!)

I went to chat last night, but I didn't stick around very long. I think DH turned on 'House' or CSI or something and I left the computer. Hope you all had a good time over there.

Well, I've got my day planned out so I'd better get the chores done so I can go out get some more stuff done.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Thanks Morning Gayle, I used the web site and got some good info. Maybe you shouldn't have said you are knowledgeable about drugs, we will all worry you to death!!

Well, my day is planned. Going to DM this morning, and cleaning her storage building. Putting everything away for the winter. I will be taking some of the daffodils that I dug yesterday, and planting in the new bed I made there this summer. Then, I will put some of the daffs along side our garage when I get home. At the end of the day yesterday, wearing my pedometer, I had walked 2,98 miles. Going to use it again today, and will average it out. Just for the sake of knowing. Dr. says walk to get exercise, know I won't need to implement a plan, as you can see I think I walk enough.

Well happy whatever you are doing today. I will check in when I get back home.

Oh, if anyone is going out, please buy me a powerball ticket, so that when I win I can treat you all to something nice. LOL

Good Morning, everyone!

I haven't been on much since Saturday, and the thread has been so busy I couldn't read all the posts, so I hope everyone is well and things are going well, also. The weather here has been beautiful. High yesterday around 75 degrees (remember, I'm writing from Wisconsin!), and will continue to be warm throughout the weekend. There is a WI/Midwest RU (more of a gathering) here this Saturday. The weather is supposed to be warm, but I think they are calling for rain. We won't be sharing plants because its so late in the season. I hope at least a few people come, but its not looking good.

My daughter is in Nederland, Texas, doing cleanup from hurricane Rita. She told me, "Mom, it's a mess here, and I'm afraid everyone is already forgetting about the people here." You can read a letter she posted to family and friends I copied to another thread: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/540406/. If anyone is in the path of Wilma, I pray you have already evacuated.

Have a good day!

Top 'o the mornin' to ya lads and lassies! It's miserable out today, rainy, grey and just plain icky. But I've made a sheet of cinnamon-toffee scones and have fresh butter and three types of jam for you. They are up on the ledge next to the pot of Yorkshire Gold tea that's brewing. Help yourselves and enjoy the cool weather with something warm for your tummy.

jasmerr,

Woohoo!! You'd be most welcome, lovey! I hope you like lamb stew made with turnips, onions and parsnips. It's what's for supper tonight. My hubby HATED lamb until after we were married. I think he'd just never had it prepared correctly. It's been grey and foggy the past three days and he asked for lamb stew for tonight, so I'm going to comply with his request. I suppose a loaf of herb bread would not be out of line with the menu as well, so I'd best be getting after making some bread today.
