Session #41 (Started Oct. 17, 2005)
Lurkers are cordially invited to join in any time...
Let me be the first to welcome everyone to the new thread, it happened while I was typing in thread # 40.
Night All,
Okay, I have to check in as an official lurker in these threads! Ya'll are just too much fun to read, and I learn sooooooooo much in the meantime. :)
Baked goodies? Check. Will try to rustle up something to share tomorrow.
2x4? Check. Need to sign up to keep it on retainer, just in case.
Wax? Check. No, check OFF! LOL
I'm a 45-year-old GOBette who just finished up her second year of veggie gardening and LOVES it! Flowers are in my future, though, and I'm taking baby steps towards that. BUT FIRST, I need to finish up the canning and freezing of my veggies from this year's harvest, and then get all the seedling trays washed and stored and... you get the idea.
I *have* vacuumed this month. Inside, even!
My significant other is also a subscriber here with the nick of SO1, as in "Significantly OTHER One". *snicker* He's Arod by name, and hangs out in the Collectibles and Handyman and African Violets Forums. Yup, AVs. He's a natural when it comes to making houseplants thrive!
Is that enough of an intro for starters? *hoping hoping hoping*
Donna :)
Hey there Tutti Fruit, welcome and I love your name. I think you will fit in perfect.
Mary, well all I can say is KUDO's to you. Now remember I have never even sat on a horse so I am speaking from assumtion but dang doesn't your butt just hurt doing that? I can't even sit in a chair for more then a short while with out getting crampy. All I can picture is boot camp where I was exhausted, cold and filthy and yes I would have loved Dinty Moore Stew at that point.
Well everyone keep those fingers crossed, we are putting in the offer on the property tomorrow so we should know by Friday.
I hope that you all have an incredible night
Casey
Thank you for the welcome, Casey. :)
Since I'm on the west coast, and can be a bit of a night owl at times, here's a soft and gentle "good morning" bloom to those who may be awakening even as I head off for my own slumber.
Yawning now as I set up my own coffee pot,
Donna
P.S. I wish I could say it was mine, along with a host of other beauties! It's formally known as #23 from the Inland Empire Dahlia Trial Gardens here in Spokane, taken just two days ago during a spontaneous late afternoon visit 'just because'. :)
Morning everyone- gosh did I have a good sleep last night. I'm raring to go now!! All the retired girls are meeting for coffee this morning - should be a fun time. But first I'm hitting the exercise joint. Not that I want to - I NEED to!
Defo - man, you keep up on everything - I'm impressed!! I read everything, but seldom can remember things if they go off my screen! Speaking of hypertufa - I got all the ingredients to do that and never got it done. If you have any good hints for next year, let me know!! I want to do some troughs and some rhubarb or hosta leaves. It intrigues me!
Welcom Tutti Fruitti - you need to tell us all about yourself and your family. I'm done with the 2x4, so anytime you need it, just give a hollar. It's by the back door - all set to go! I used to be an african violet queen - had well over 100, but I got some kind of bug and had to toss many of them. Then I fell out of love with them. I still have probalby 25 or so, but I don't lavish love on them anymore. I will probably start some leaves this winter - just because I get a kick out of it. I love the varigated ones especially.
Maria -= check in so we know how you are feelin
Mary , I'm still waiting for a weekly menu from you. Peanut butter is a mainstay in my diet - do you eat any?
I haven't dug my tall dahlias, so at least DH won't touch those!! He was appropriately contrite, so I have forgiven him.
Watching that nasty hurricane develop -yuck. Going to be in the upper 60's here today and partly sunny...nice. Time for some breakfast and then read a chapter or two in the current book.
Good morning everybody!
Gotta run the boy to the bus and will be back to try and catch up!
WELCOME my dear Tutti!!!! :-)))))))))
Anne
Welcome Tutti Fruitti, yes we convert many lurkers into participants on this thread. As you probably know, those of us who have husbands, periodically air those contensious rifts in marital bliss. In other words we give em h---!!! LOL.
Carat, good luck with the offer, hope that it is acceptable, and that you will shortly be in the moving mode. Is it still raining in LV?
Sarv, now that DH is properly warned, he wouldn't go near those dahlia bulbs, without your express written permission!!
Aria, where are you, and how are you feeling? Check in and let us know.
Maybe today I will plant those tulip and daff bulbs. As I said yesterday was a but first day, so maybe all of that is out of the way!! Still in my gown and robe, have finished breakfast, DH took off to the lake at 7:00 this morning probably will fish the better part of the day. He claims that he really doesn't want to fish everyday, but there is always a friend who calls, and he "feels like he has to go." Yeah, he is the only one in his group that has a boat, so he acts as official host and "takes them fishing." I hate it that he is so putupon by these friends. LOL.
Well off to get dressed and out the door. Will check in later.
D.Cat...I tired *so* hard refreshing #40 at least 3 three times before I finally put in the link to #41! LOL I tried to be the last post but, once again, I missed it. :-D
WELCOME in out of the dark, Donna (Tuttifrutti). SO glad you decided to join us in the kitchen! (Geez...some of you guys are just *babies* for real! I can barely remember turning 60!! And that was just a couple of months ago! LOL) And that's a fabulous Dahlia. #23, eh? I wonder if they'll change the name?? ;-)
Casey...Got my fingers crossed for you on that offer!
Sarv....YEAH!!!!! I *GOOD* night's sleep for you! You're going to be a bundle of energy all day!
Yesterday I babysat with Angel (y/o DGD) and had a pretty good time. After her nap we planted a couple of pretty in pale lavendar mums (and yes, I put more yellow dafs and purple grape hyacinths in the bottom of those holes too. I take any opportunity that shows up to reduce those numbers by 10-15 more bulbs. ~grin~) I get such a kick out of Angel...she just loves the 'priddy flors' and just loves it when we 'pik sum'. I think I'm going to surprise her *and* her mommy by planting a few bulbs and other goodies close to her swing set when no one is home. (They live in the house directly behind us, so it won't be hard to do.) Then come spring, I'll get to see the (and *hear*) the squeal of delight when she discovers SHE has flowers too!
Have any of our regulars (OR lurkers, for that matter) posted pics of their gardens? I'd love to go on a photo tour to see what you've done, what you've planted, and hear what you've got planned for next year.
Now that I've got two gardening seasons under my belt, I'm working on getting lots of photos selected and resized for a thread of my own. (Gee...I think I posted some of them last week...but now I can't remember WHERE! LOL I guess I'd better check my watched threads and find it. hehehe)
Well....no plans for today. Whatever is going to happen will be a big surprise.
Hope everyone with aches, pains, colds, flu, and other maladies are feeling better today...or soon wil be. We're all sending healing vibes your direction.
Time for another cuppa...feel free to join me!
~julie~
WEEEEEEl, I'm mightly slow today, gang. Over did it in the garden yesterday.. I was picture perfect and I just kept going....got's lots done. Want to have all the little cuttings etc planted before my cruise and the sprinklers checked, etc. Cleaned up a lot of stuff and cut back my Famous Coleus and her playmate.....Believe it or not, I had almost an entire garbage bag full of coleus clippings from "Sidney", her name, and the ones next to her..AND it doesn't look like I did anything...She's a good grower, I'lll say.
I'm still not done, so as soon as I can get the ASA to kick in I'll be back in the ol' dirt. It's sunny and 79.5 where now. PERFECT!!
Maria, hope you're better today.
No 2 x 4s today girls......patience, patience, patience..... (I wonder what they use on us?)
Welcome to all our newbies.....have fun with us...
Hap
Good morning. It's still dark out here on the left coast as somebody on the radio calls it. The sunrise should be pretty this morning, there was a lot of smoke from slash burning in the air yesterday afternoon.
Today I have to take the newer pickup to the dealership to see why the brake system light came on while I was driving home from my ride on Sunday. It wouldn't go out even when I stopped to check for hot brakes and turned off the engine. Nothing seemed amis except the warning light was on, brakes still worked, emergency brake wasn't on, no excessive heat or hot smell from the wheels. Then when my hubby unhitched my trailer and moved the truck it wasn't on anymore. Mystery. So anyhow, the dealership will hook it up to their computer analyzer thingy and see if it is anything serious about to happen. The truck is still under warranty for about 5,000 more miles.
Peanut butter, yes, Sarv, I eat some of it but a jar lasts a long time. Mostly I eat it in sandwiches at my rides because I can take it in a fannypack on my rides and not worry about temperatures like with some meat sandwich. Since I go to a lot of rides, I get tired of peanut butter sandwiches by the end of the year.
You asked about what else I eat, well, I try to eat lots of vegies and fruit, and stay away from the things with lots of empty calories. Hardly ever have pop (just occasionally in the summer), drink lots of water instead. I'll eat an apple, orange, or banana instead of cookies, and if I do eat cookies they are healthy homemade ones. I hardly ever buy desert things at the store or a restaurant. In the summer I do eat ice cream almost every day but I work off those calories before they have a chance to stick. Having a low blood sugar problem has taught me to balance what I eat as far as carbohydrates, protein and fat so I don't run out of blood sugar and get weak, shaky and dizzy. If my clothes start to get tight I just eat smaller portions and try to move more by spending some time on the exercise machine every day. Winter is the only time I have a problem with that since I am not very active outside then. I hope this helps you.
Welcome, TuttiFrutti, come in anytime. D #23 is a beauty. Is it in an experimental garden where the ones that pass the rigorous tests are eventually named and available to the public? You know, like All American winners or something? I read that about roses, somebody has bred one they think is good so they send it out to be grown in areas all over the country, Florida, Colorado, California, New York, Iowa, etc, and if it can be grown just about anywhere successfully then it gets a name and a patent, and somebody can make some $ selling them.
OOOO, gotta get a sunrise picture. See ya.
Just got back from the exercise joint- did a good workout - then met the 'gals' for coffee. I cheated and hit the local gas station for the sinfully good cappiccino (sp x) - I don't care for the taste of coffee and when I buy lattes or cappiccino's at the coffee shop I hate the taste. Plus they cost 4 bucks. I got mine for 73 cents! LOL what a cheapsake I am!!
I feel so wonderful today - arm isn't bothering much, stomach fine and no headache to slow me down!! Plus I have an abundance of energy!! Oh, life is grand today (sun is out - does that make me feel better??)
Well, gotta go think about some lunch= then out to the garden for geranium digging....
see ya later alligator!!
You go Sarv sounds great glad it is a wonderful day for makes me :-))))))
OO OOO OOOOOOOOoooo....I just saw my Thanksgiving dinner walk by outside my window!!! (Nope! Didn't have the camera in hand fast enough) A WHOLE flock of wild turkeys! BIG ones! (And I'm not talking booze! LOL)
Good morning EVERYONE!!!
~julie~
P.S. Sarv...I just *knew* we'd be hearing about how much energy you have today...and how GOOD you felt. I'm SOOO glad!
Good morning, or I guess I should say, afternoon.
First chance I've had to check in today. Had a good Aquafit class and stopped by the food cupboard. Then to the welfare office. WHEN will they learn to stop handing out 10 year old info to clients about what emergency food program to use? I despair of the bureaucracy. One thing that 17 years in the Food Bank business has told me is that meetings with government are a pile of sh..............t. Many of our clients would be much better off if people would give them straight answers.
And the city government STILL isn't happy with my grant application. Seems the projected increase in my expenses doesn't match the increase in what I asked for. That's because we will go to the donors for the rest. DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Solution - ask the city for $4000 more.
I'm ready to retire!
Welcome to TuttiFrutti. Hope you stay with us.
I'm with the rest of you in asking Maria to check in.
Gotta go. Still have client files from last night to deal with and I start music students at 3 this afternoon. I'm gonna take a day off from the Food Cupboard tomorrow and go out to lunch with a Red Hat group. Any of the rest of you belong to one?
Ann
Maria...are you out there? We're looking for some news on how you're doing today.
~julie~
Maria, ask your Dr about Tesselon Perles. I can't take cough syrup anymore and this is what I take instead.
If anyone has any pharmacy type questions, I can help a bit. I was a pharmacy tech for a few years. Someday I will take a pic of our med cabinet, there is a medium sized fortune in there!
mg
mg- ok gotta a question for ya. I take allegra D for allergies and have some that say dispose of after 8/05. I've been taking them (didn't see the date) Are they still doing the job or do I really have to toss them (they seem to be working and I hate to heave ho them if it is ok)
Didn't get a thing done outside as I saw my gardening neighbor - sat in the sun and gabbed. Now DH is home and we're sharing a 'brew' then we plan on heading outside to winterize the trailer and powerwasher. I'm gonna dig geraniums - still.
Well it is still raining here. My neighborhood has received 1.4 inches since midnight. Now to most of you I know that sounds so trivial, but when the water doesn't soak in a starts to turn into rivers moving down hill quickly it gets ugly. Then because we rarely see rain, most people don't have a clue how to drive in it and most of the day all you hear is emergency vehicles sirens.
Funny how people learn to accept and adapt to their environment. When it snowed here in January it pretty much shut everything down. The city doesn’t own any snow plows and the county own 4 and they are used up on Mt Charleston where snow is common. My friends nephew lives in Minnesota and snow days are reserved for blizzard snow storms that bring at least a foot of fresh snow. Rain is an every day thing during some seasons for the coastal regions. But it will cause special news reports when rain occurs here as today. While I was in South Carolina the temp went to 96 and everyone was claiming they were melting. I just looked at them and thought they would not only melt but evaporate in our 115.
Mary, I am very interested in your rides. I have never heard of anything like this before. Is it considered a sporting event?? Similar to marathon runners?? Do you sleep out on the rides or are they set up to revolve around sleeping accommodations. Is it an individual or team earning the points or maybe both? How many people participate in each ride? Okay enough with picking your brain. I am just so intrigued by this.
Well I have repotted the two houseplants that needed it and now to get the sheets changed and washed. I would kill for a place to hang my sheets outside to get that fresh rain smell in them.
Hope all are having a wonderful day. Anyone making stew for dinner? Think I have a craving for it thats not going to go away until I make it.
Sarv, blister pack or bottle?
Hey, HI Carat!
mg
mg - bottle
LOL, well a big HELLO to you also MG.
Ok, 6 mos after experation date is safe as long as they haven't changed color or started to degrade. They will gradually lose effectiveness after 9 to 12 mos.
That help?
mg
Sorry Carat, I'm usually much better at keeping up and keeping it straight, lol.
Did I see Tutti had joined us too? Well hey now!
Hi Tutti!
mg
Who will be in chat with me tonight? Hmmm? Hmmmm? Don't make me come get you!
Carat, I totally understand what you say about rain in the dry desert places. When I visit my son in Tempe, AZ, he warns me when it rains there that the people are crazy drivers. That they don't know how to drive in the rain. Is funny to here the same thing from you. My son came from here in the NW and he learned how to drive in rain, snow, hail, etc.!
Sarv, am so glad that you are feeling good today. Hope it lasts for a few days and you get your geran. dug.
Mg, will be there if I can in the chat room. Get ready for razzing and jazzing, hehe.
Later, Carol (DR)
I'm a late arrival today. Got to the dentist in time, in spite of traffic obstacles, road repairs and detours......went and got breakfast at my favorite east side restaurant, a Jewish deli where they serve a concoction of scrambled eggs, potatos onions and kosher salami. I brought half of it home for breakfast tomorrow. Then stopped at a market and bought big Idaho bakers, as I don't get way east very often and the potatos at our supermarkets are awful. Got home in time to load Souky in the cat carrier and head to the vet.
She got a cortisone shot, and some antibiotics, and they think it could be a food allergy. After only being willing to eat Iams for two years, she is now helping herself to the Science Diet from the other bowls, and this is apparently causing her to sneeze and have scabby breakouts. If this is the case, I guess all four will go on Iams, because there is no way to separate them for feeding. Not too spoiled, are they?
Breathtakingly gorgeous day here...won't be too many more of these.
Welcome Tutti....treats are calorie free and there's no charge for therapy, and since the 2x4 is always available, help yourself. Happy1 said, what do the guys do, instead of using the 2X4? I think they mostly ignore us, which I find more infinitely more irritating than having a good fight!
Good luck on the offer, Casey, and on all the paperwork that will follow. My DS and DIL are moving on Friday and Saturday, and I hope they get over here to pick up the two sofas I'm donating to them. My new sofa, loveseat and chair are arriving on Saturday. If they don't pick them up in time, my living room will have 3 sofas, a loveseat, two chairs, a big hassock.... and limited mobility!! There will be no room to walk!!
Oh, those dahlias are tempting....but with my track record I'm better off viewing than growing!
Ann, hospitals are just as bad at passing out old information as any gov't agency. I received ten year old brochures on diet, and some of the information was so outdated, I threw them out. (Like recommending oleo instead of butter!) Not that I planned to follow it anyway....lol.
Where's Maria? I hope she's resting and back with us soon. It's hard to keep up on posts when you are under the weather. Shoot, it's hard to keep up when you feel good!
On that subject, RAINING in Vegas, still? That's got to be a mess. Just like the snow would be. Our friends in Australia are convinced we are the equivalent of Arctic explorers, since they never see snow and are amazed that people go to work, drive, school busses run, etc. You do get used to your local climate.
MG ADDRESS I see nothing in Dmail. Do it now. nag nag nag
Ahhh, rats! Garbage men came by already and I had another bag to take out. Oh well, it can't stink too much by next Tuesday...if it cools off like they predict.
Hello to everyone I haven't commented to, (or nagged) ...I'd better get busy, this day has been a total loss so far,and with the sun getting so low on the horizon, I'm seeing nose prints on all the windows. And I haven't made the bed!!!
Sarv, you've inspired me to drag one pot of geraniums in for the winter. I'll cut them back and let them live in the dinette like they did last winter. The rest of the outside ones are history after the first frost. They do look pretty right now though. Especially with a Monarch sitting on one!
See y'all later.
Hi everyone, I feel some what better but am very, very tired. still cough but not as much, seems to me my whole body is aching just from that, to top ot off had to have several meetings with lawyers, banker and broker because I am too dumb to know anything about money. Not that my husband left a mess on the contrary it is justI did not understand all of the various annuities, stocks etc.
In other words did not know what is what or what do I have ot not have. I am a fairly bright human being but when it comes to numbers forget it. They consolidated everything and will pay all my monthly bills except utilities and other household expenses and if I over spent they will yell at me because it will come from the capital and not from its earnings. So you know besides being sick and signing so many pape, have lost count, I am worn out!
Thanks to all of you that had me in your thoughts, Now I shall go and have a litttle nap
Cruddy nagging M5, you are much too nice about it! You need to take lessons from my MIL. I had to go back and reread what you were talking about, that was right before my trip to the "spa". I don't have anywhere near that amount of seeds,
:-(( I only had 2 of each vine survive Jenna overwatering them as seedlings. But I would be happy to just drop some in the mail for you. I don't feel right about getting alot from you for so little, so do you want some 4:00s? They are mixed, neons and broken colors. I also have malva mallow and purple irridecent celosia. Otherwise, I could send you some postage or something??? LMK what you want to do, then I will Dmail you the addy or I am in the exchange.
mg
Sleep well Maria get some well deserved rest!
Daisy Razzing and Jazzing?
In Chat??
Oh I think I get it now,.
Busy day off today. DH is combining for three days so I brought lunch out to them. And had a dr. appt for my blood pressure recheck today. All is well, altho I seriously need to lose weight and exercise. Stuff I am already well aware of! Now I have a bunch of phone calls to make and get some plants and bulbs in the ground. Bible study mtg tonight so I better quick slacking here and get to work. Have to quit by 6 at the latest. take care all...
MG, yes I'd like some four o'clock seeds too, don't worry about the quantity, free is free!! Don't make me hunt down the exchange just dmail me! LOL ( I didn't think I was being polite...!)
What chat room?????????????? HUH HUH HUH???????????????
Okay small floating devices will be needed very soon here. I actually allowed DD to take my Pilot to her physical theraphy instead of the car. It sits up higher and has fourwheel drive if the crud mud from the neighboring empty lot comes over while she is in there.
Hubby needs to go to Lowe's for some paint supplies and asked me to go along. Whoo Hoo field trip. Be back soon.
Carat on the home page on the right it says chat room open in x hours and x minutes when it is open smilie faces will be there saying chatroom is open!
Join in it is from 7-10PM on Tuesday nights and 7-10 am I think on Thursday mornings
Anne
Carat, if you look at the home page, under the Voting Booth Question, it will say "The chatroom opens in ... hours and ...mins." When the chatroom is open, the message will change to "The Chatroom is open" and if you click on it it will take you there.
We have chat tues night and thurs mornings. 7-10 EST. But the room will not close if there are still chatters in it. (so far).
I hope to see you there!
mg
Maria....I'm so glad you checked in and that you're, at least, feeling a little bit better. I can't imagine how you're even managing to *think* about financial business when you're sick. I just want everyone to leave me *alone* when I feel like that. Get a good rest, and maybe tomorrow you'll feel more like a human. (((~Maria~)))
HI M5, and MG and Sarv and Casey and Julie88...oh wait a minute! That's me!! :-D (It gets confusing here sometimes. hehehe)
~julie~
OH I forgot Kooger!!! And not only that...I didn't remember the POSTAGE either!! (rackafratzenpoopydoo!) NO ONE SHOULD EVER SEND ME ANYTHING THAT I HAVEN'T PAID FOR IN *ADVANCE* DO YOU HEAR ME????? :-D
Mags! JINX!! *clink*
mg
LOL *Clink* right back atcha!!!!!
What is the beverage of choice tonight??
Water, I'm still restricted, lol.
bummer tho...
mg
Me too - *clink*!
I may be late - DH needs new glasses and we might go look tonight....he's to the bifocal stage now.
MG - did I miss your explanation of your disappeance? Just curious....
The window man came out today to measure and take down numbers on our window that has "failed". The seal between the two panes has broken - causing fog in between the glass. Hopefully I'll know something about replacement before too long. It's only 8 years old. So - we'll see.
No other real news for now. See you in chat - keep a light on for me!
Marcia
Chat? I can't go to chat! People will expect me to PAY ATTENTION!!
:-D
~julie~
