mg, I defragged this morning. I usually ask DH to do it, but whoever explained it in our first sessions did it so well, I just went ahead and did it . I only consider it when things slow down or I can't find stuff quickly. It didn't even take long, but thanks for the offer. Having had computer background way back into the punch card days I generally feel like a dinosaur and rely on DH, aside from being bone lazy....I can usually figure things out if I put some effort into it.

Just dropped in to see what's up...thinking of going up for some of that turkey........! Also need to think of going to get some grub in the house, perishables are about all gone. Ugh. I hate grocery shopping. Well, not the shopping, the lugging and putting away ...I like the selection process. Just wish it would fly home by itself and jump into the proper location without my assistance!

Gone again,
Sheila

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Mary, here is a closer picture of your red dahlia. The one up front is 'Ali Oop' and the ones in the back is 'Slywalker'. The camera just can't get the real red color. In real life, it is even better! But these 2 dahlias have been so happy with the cooler weather that they have gone gang busters. I love red flowers too. Yes, I will have a tuber of 'Ali Oop' for sure since there is one plant in my veg. garden and will be digging it after frost in Nov. The 'Skywalker', I am not sure but hopefully.
Sarv, no, I usually don't dig the dahlias (I have about 125+ dahlias). I have overwintered them in their raised beds, but this fall, I have decided to dig up most of them in this bed you saw. I want to take out the ones I don't like, the types I don't like, and then do some re-designing of color, types, and size of the plants. I am to get a few from trades so... The new retaining wall will be filled up with soil, compost (mint & homemade compost) and then be ready for at least another row of my dahlias, YEAH!
Would love to see a pic of the plant stand you are painting.
ViolaA, you can go to the anti-virus icon on the taskbar on the bottom of the monitor screen and right click it to disable the anti-virus while running the defrag.
You really need to defrag. at least 1x month. I usually do it every week to keep my computer up to par.

Carol (dr) THAT does it!!! I'm buying some dahlias for next year! I love the fact that they are still blooming at the end of the season. (And that RED would sure balance out my flowerbed that has red cannas on one end, if I planted the dahlias on the other.)

Geez! Why did I stop here...I'm cleaning the BATHROOM!!

~julie~

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

Ann - Turkey sounds wonderful! Enjoy your dinner and company. Now I can't wait until Thanksgiving! Actually, I was thinking about getting a turkey to cook on the grill; haven't done that for awhile.

Just got back from town and am so tired. I think I have been fighting off a virus for about a week. I'm going to take a 20 minute nap then try to get some cleaning done.

Take care,
Jody

Hi all,

aria, you must have the Massachusetts bug cause I've got it too (and so did half the people in the emergency department at a local hospital where I landed for 4 hours today). I'll normally do just about anything to avoid hospitals and doctors, but this #@&* bug hit so hard and so fast that I thought my bronchial tubes were going to simply shut down altogether.
They finally sent me home with an inhaler and told me to keep taking the expectorant cough syrup which finally kicked in after I'd been sitting there for 2 hours. Hope you're starting to feel better.

Sorry for not responding to much else ---still feeling too crappy.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Oh, I LOVE Chili Dogs.... but my stomach certainly doesn't anymore. Sigh.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Ouch, McCool...
Glad I have inhalers handy and sometimes very glad I seldom come in contact with many people. Of course, just one will do, and the woman who lives in the wing upstairs was down here for a while today. She works in a nursing home, where everyone gets everything.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

mcCool, it is awful, but I did rest all day and feel a little bit better now at least bronchial tubes are clearing but I feel like a piece of woen out rag
Maria

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

No worries Darius, this is MILD chili, I can't do the hot stuff anymore either.

My dh is a hot sauce fanatic. He collects the dang things, the hotter the better. I should take a pic of the door of my fridge, all of these little bottles with the most amazing names and artwork. So anyway, I make mild for Jenna and I, dh and Nathan get theirs as hot as they want it at the table.

RATS! I just had wild bird in the apartment, third one this year. Comes from leaving the door open so my cat can go oiuside without me being the doorman, and I have no screen door.

I got it, finally, but the poor thing is still on the mat outside (door closed!)... may not be able to fly away. Darn. I hate that.

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

Thanksgiving dinner and chili dogs? I am pulling up a chair for both!
McCool so sorry you are not feeling well as well as Aria --- I hope good feelings are in the picture tomorrow get some rest and take care thinking of everyone
Anne

Memphis, TN(Zone 7b)

Hi All!

Maria and McCool - hope you both are feeling better. MG - Chili does sound good......but not after my day today (more later).

Darius - I'm so sorry about the bird - I hate that too...dumb birds - maybe it went on it's way?

Now - about my lovely day. Most of you know that I went last week to have an endoscopy...felt bad for two days afterwards - and didn't find out what was really causing the problem. So - I was scheduled for an ultrasound and a HIDA with E/F test today. I was told to be there at 7:30 - was there at 7:15. Computer network is down - but because I had pre-registered - didn't need it to check me in. Did that - and waited. Ultrasound was scheduled for 8 - went back at 8:15 - ok - not too bad. Took maybe 20 minutes - if that long. Showed nothing out of the ordinary. Went to waiting room B - because HIDA was scheduled for 9. Well - in just a minute - the HIDA test nurse came in and said because of the computers being down - she'd not get to me for an hour and a half! The person ahead of me DID NOT pre-register - so they had to wait till the computers came back on to do him. Went to car and got some work papers...did a little bit of work and called boss to let her know I'd be late.

At 10:00 they came to get me for the test. Took two of them to find a vein - but they did finally. Then they injected the radio-active dye and put me under the scanner for an hour. After laying there an hour - dozing some - she tells me that the gallbladder is not emptying well. So she had me get up and walk around for 10 minutes - to see what happened. Then another 30 minutes with more scanning at different angles. Again I got up and walked for just a few minutes - and got back in the scanner for 20 more minutes of picture taking. Now - keep in mind that this is done in a room set at 65 degrees - because of the machine they have to keep it cool - on a metal table with a thin strip of vinyl covered with sheet down the middle. She gave me a blanket - but still freezing. So while all this is going on - my heads starting to hurt from the cold. Then comes the fun part! They inject something that makes you really nauseous - and then causes your gallbladder to contract (read cramp and hurt!) - so they can see what it does. And all of this on an empty stomach of course. Needless to say - by the time we were done, I felt horrible, came home, didn't even want to eat but made myself do it anyway. Then I had a pity cry and took at 3 hour nap!

Moral of the story...there isn't one - but - at least there is SOMETHING amiss with my gallbladder. To what degree and what's to be done (take out or leave) - I'll find out next Monday when I go to the doctor for my formal diagnosis. I'm still hurting now - and if the doctor doesn't think it should be removed - I'm getting a second opinion for sure. At least I'm not crazy - there really IS something going on AND it is my gallbladder like I told them. The nurse/tester person said that the computer program she'd put all the data through would tell them to what degree the "blockage" or whatever is - and that would be the deciding factor on surgery or not. So - now I have to wait to see.

No other real news - sorry if I bored anyone!

Marcia

Marcia, what a mess... but at least they have confirmed what you knew all along... some gall bladder problem.

By the way, the bird has flown off!

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Hello it's me again. I'm just taking a rhubarb cobbler and vanilla ice cream break. There's more if anybody wants it.

My neighbor needed some help moving a herd of cattle this afternoon so I saddled Breezy and we had a nice relaxing ride for about 2 hours in the sun and breeze. The cattle were mostly cooperative so the job went smoothly and now they are quite happy with a fresh pasture.

Carol, the red dahlia is just stunning. I'd be very happy to get one of them for the postage if you have time to put it in a box and mail it. Let me know when it is coming because if our weather is freezing I will need to go down to the mailbox (a mile away) in the middle of the day to rescue it. Funny how the weather can be so different on opposite sides of the same state.

Gotta get back to digging iris.

Starkville, MS

Darius, so glad the little one flew. I have had that problem often, and its always such a relief when they finally fly off.

BB - I'm only 3 hours away - if you need help, let me know please! I'll do whatever I can.

Everyone else - I didn't make notes, so I have lost track of all the "witty remarks" that I thought about as I read EACH and EVERY post ( I don't skip over any of them - they're too wonderful ), I send you all love!

Good health to all
ginni

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Rats Marcia, I was afraid of that. I did tell you it wasn't alot of fun, but I was afraid if I told you everything you wouldn't go get it done to find out what is wrong. That stuff they inject to recreate the symptoms is vile, but it does leave your system fairly fast. I think I took a nap after mine too, and I felt mildly icky that night but all better by morning.

Sorry Sweetie, I hope you feel better quick!

MG - thanks for not telling me - you're right - I might have chickened out. I'm feeling a bit better now - so I'm hoping it will be gone by tomorrow.

TGIF - THANK YOU SO MUCH for your sweet offer! I don't know what to say - except thanks and just ask you keep sending good thoughts my way!

You know what's going to happen don't you? DH is going to CO 10/21 - 10/30 and that's when they'll want to schedule surgery - LOL! Don't worry - I'd wait...waited this long - another week or two ain't gonna matter!

Thanks everyone for the thoughts and prayers.

BB - good to get some answers. Maria, hope ur feeling better soon. I've had one crud episode already this fall too. Lot of it at work too.

Bike is a Honda Shadow 675. Hap, it's winterized but I don't see any reason why it couldn t be un-winterized! lol Tell ur DD, just wait till a few decades, then her kids will be shaking their heads. (and her back yard garden is absolutely beautiful, I followed that thread too)

Hi to everyone else! MG -DH went thru Dubuque and Galena many times, quite often twice a week with loaders going to IL from Sioux Falls. Hwy 20 was the shortest route. Some day we'll go there to sight-see, it's such a beautiful area. Quite often we saw bald eagles, what majestic creatures!

later............

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Gee Kooger, I bet you just loved Terripin Ridge in a semi! I hate it in a car, lol.

Someday?? Gals, we need to do a GOB RU here. It would be a blast!

I'll host and can sleep 4 in beds, 1 on couch, 1 in the recliner, and at least 30 on the floor! Or I can make nice calls to a nice hotel, lol.

Come on now, let's really think about this!

mg

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

'Tis fun to contemplate...

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Which particular ridge is that? there's quite a few along that whole stretch! Have u lived in the area long? Is the story about the insurance(?) office on the bend in Elizabeth(?) I think, true? The trucker story is that a truck lost his brakes coming down that hill from the east, lost control on the curve and wiped out the office. No one killed, thankfully. I know the ofc is gone cuz I saw it when it was an ofc. Pretty sure the town is Elizabeth. The ups and downs and bend on those first 50 miles are something else!!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

BB, what an unpleasant thing togo through but at least you know somthing is not working the way it should and O hope it can be fixed without much of a poblem. Here I am complaning about a rotten cold,
Maria

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Kooger, other than when dh was in the Army, I've lived within 20 miles of this house, but in 3 states! Terrapin Ridge is the first downhill after you leave Galena going east. The one with the observation tower at the top.

I've heard about that office vs semi before, I have no idea if it is really true, but yes, the office is gone and nothing has been rebuilt on the spot. That last hill into Elizabeth is a doozy. Makes you wonder tho... I remember that section in a school bus in the winter going to basketball games. (In a small town, even the short girls make the team!)

And people think this area is flat, lol.

Mary E - I do envy you riding so much. I grew up riding and I really miss it.

p s - at 56 I am officially a GOB!!!!!! but I like that "anniversary of my 29th birthday"
thing.

I LOVE CHILI !!!!

Wow, 30 messages on the new thread while we were having Thanksgiving dinner.

Anne - do come for left-overs.

daisyruffles - that's some dahlia. Wish I could keep them in the ground here.

Marcia - good luck with the gall bladder problem. Hope that having confirmed it they are able too correct it for you.

Hey, I really am a GOB by more than 10 years. lol

Ann

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

What a miserable day for you BB, and poor McCool and Maria, too. I hope tomorrow is much better. And why on earth would they not want to remove a cranky gall bladder? That would be less painful and time consuming than the bloody test!! Here's to a better day starting immediately tomorrow morning.

Leftover turkey is a wonderful thing. Sometimes I get a much bigger one than I need just to have turkey tettrazina, turkey sandwiches, drumsticks to munch, turkey cacciatori.....

I made a big pot of bean soup out of that ham I hacked up a couple weeks ago, I hate bean soup, DH loves it and takes all the leftovers in to work for lunches. I just had to use up that big bone with all the meat on it. Chili sounds much better!

Mary, is your arm better? Hard to type with one hand! Too bad that horse is so contrary, and has proven that it will do it again and again. Sad to say goodbye but probably better for you in the long run.

Trying to watch tv earlier, Oskar and Souky both needed to lie on top of me and Souky does not share...but since Osk got there first, she squeezed herself alongside him but didn't look at him. (If she can't see him , he's not there.)

I'm whacked. Going to bed. Say good night Gracie.....

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

Viola I am on my way!
See you soon for leftovers and a good nights sleep.

Ladies, I got home from work a fairly short time ago, and it has taken me this long just to catch up with this thread and a couple of others. I'm going to have to increase my reading speed if I am going to keep up with you not to mention trying to get things done such as meals and sleep. So I am not going to be able to post very often, but believe me, I will be there in my chair watching the conversation bounce around. Dotti

Starkville, MS

meals, sleep? what are those compared to this?!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Mary, Aria, BetsyBug, McCool, sorry that you are under the weather. BetsyBug, go on and get the gb out. DH had his out 2 years ago, and problems vanished. Feels so much better. I just can't wait for the first Ohio Valley Crud episode. Always have bronchitis, and feel rotten with it. Know it will come, just don't know when.

Boy, I have been off line all day, and everything has happened.

I had an appointment with the chiropractor this morning, after that dashed to the grocery. The grocery that I go to is closing and they are having a sale. I got 32 dollars worth of stuff, and only paid 17.
Came home, put groceries away, and started to clean the house. Haven't done much for 2 weeks or so, so gave it a thorough cleaning. Walked by computer several times but forced myself to not log on. When I get on line (for a minute) seems like before I know it an hour has passed. Tomorrow is laundry day. So my day was boring, but I have a clean house!! Tomorrow will be boring, but I will have clean drawers too!! Oh, while I was gone to the chiropractor, DH went and got mulch for me to finish the bed that I started a DM. Got that unloaded, and boy does it look good.

Oh, BTW Sarv, the chiropractor is helping my arm. I don't know if it is really carpel tunnel, or a pinched nerve, but it is not hurting as much. How is yours?

MorningGayle, the GOB roundup sounds like a good idea. Let's really think about it and see if we can come up with some real (not cyber) plans. Would love to meet all of you!! Evidently my house is not as big as yours, I could sleep 6 in beds and on sofas, but have plenty of floor room. And I promise I would clear out the dust animals just for you all!!

So Balvanie, you have been pretty silent today. What's up? At the round up we could all bring our contrary DH's and you could do a seminar and teach them how to be nicer to us!! Since you are the "perfect man" maybe you could throw in some cooking lessons as well. So how about it? LOL You could bring DW and we could teach her our slothful ways, or could tell her our horror stories so that she would appreciate you more!! That's it, then she would be forever grateful that she has you.

Well, Mr. B. my Jack Russell is staring at me, even trying to talk and tell me it's time to go to bed. He went hunting with a beagle today, and is strutting all over the place. I didn't see anything they brought in, but he sure seems tired. Maybe gave a good chase after that cottontail.

Well, say goodnight Gracie!!

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

defoe- gads, if I'm the "perfect man" then the polar ice cap is really french vanilla ice cream, but thanks for the thought. Been too lazy today. Moved a couple dozen Brugs into the shelter of the shed's "ell", hunted up the 'right' collar for the new kid with Tinker's help and did little else other than sit by the computer waiting for the breeder to confirm the saturday meeting. Oh, did cook corned beef and cabbage for dinner, and clipped Tinker's toenails, and washed out the small crate, and picked up my new glasses (which are hard to get used to). So maybe it wasn't entirely a lazy day. Sometimes I just sort of forget things.

BB, so sorry you had such a terrible ordeal. Do something really nice for yourself, you deserve a treat.

Think it is about time to hit the hay. Supposed to help the neighbor put in a new fence tomorrow, if it isn't raining.
Tinker says 'nite too.
