D-Cat - AudreyJo is my mother-in-law - LOL - not sister! But we're probably as close as two sisters - and we're sure a lot alike (that's why her son picked me!).
Now that I understand what the 2x4 is for - I'll probably be asking for it.
And - don't be surprised if AJ doesn't show up as often as the rest of us yet - she's just not addicted yet...give her time.....mmmmmmmuuuuuuuuaaahhhhhhhh!
M.
Coffee and...Part 37...! :-D
Hi folks,
I just gave up fighting with this computer. For some reason it won't let me install Yahoo sitebuilder so that I can continue to work on one of my websites. Just as well, I suppose. I've been at it half the day and am getting tired and just a bit goofy.
Hi Audrey Jo, nice to meet you.
Congrats on winning the contest, MG.
Hap and M5 --- oh yeah, I'm another Maxine fan. I particularly liked the one that went "Finding a good man is as easy as nailing jello to a tree."
Darius, I have to add my voice to the chorus. That's a lovely place you live in! I wish the landlord could/would fix the flaws in your apartment so that you could stay there. I envy you the creek. All we have is the swampy area a little way off through the woods and the downstairs ponds (otherwise known as the cellar).
Not much else to say at the moment. I have to get up early and go to a trade show tomorrow.
Goodnight!
Glad to have an explanation of the travelling 2 x 4 above. I'd read mention of it, but didn't quite get it. lol
Glad Terry got the problem with the thread sorted out.
Back to skinning mini-onions before I go to bed. Spent too long in the garden this afternoon and my back hurts.
Good night all.
Ann
So Darius was the culprit that put us in the black hole! She be a powerful woman dat!!! LOL I just popped in to catch up before I go to bed (Oskar has been staring at me for a half hour already, hinting....) and I'm ready for a good snooze. Cloudy and cool all day Great sleeping weather!
Nite George
Good evening. This is Dotti and I found this forum and thread only today. Would you mind if I draw up a chair and join you? Dotti
I have primarily been on the pet forum, thanks to three cats and three dogs. Also have posted on the Wildlife forum. I have enjoyed postings by several who are also on this thread and at 67, I really feel I am a GOB. Dotti
Hi Dotti! Nice to see you over here:) Rachel
Nice to be here. Am especially glad to hear that all the goodies offered are calorie free! Wish the food I find in this area was also. I could use several months of calorie free food. LOL while crying in my sodapop! Dotti
Hey, Dottik, you are welcome!
(and I'll try NOT to mess up the programming for this thread again!)
Goodnite, Gunga Din, Wherever You Are.
Good Evening/morning Gobs, gobettes and Robert.
I am home, and just spent the last hour or so catching up on 3 threads of GOBS. A girl just can't go away without losing track of all her friends.
I will say this, I headed out to the van Tuesday 45 minutes earlier than planned. Found the battery was dead, called the mechanic for a jump start, went and bought a new battery and got on the road 30 minutes later than planned.
Now on that note, it's 2:30AM and I'm going to bed. But have lots to tell you tomorrow about the trip to the property.
Molly
:^)))
Hey, Molly, welcome back home to your almost not home, hehe.
Hope all did go well up north. As you can see, I am still up here in the west coast, lol.
Too bad about the battery but now you have one to keep the van running for a few years.
I figured you were busy with the property.
Can't wait to hear your news.
By the way, off the subject, the 'Pink Frosty' blooms are so huge, but it has turned a bit cooler and rainy here. I am hoping they will open up before it really changes, weather-wise. One plant has 4 blooms on it and the other plant has 3, so not bad for me, huh?
Later, Carol (DR)
Good morning.
Welcome Dotti. Look forward to meeting you.
Welcome back Molly. Look forard to hearing more later.
Been around this thread for a few weeks, but what's a GOB?
Ann
Carol, thank you. Yep, you are doing great with the Frosty. I can't figure out why my mine hasn't put out any blooms in 2-4 months. hmmmmmm
The first order of business on my trip was to find a mobile home. I was looking for a low cost used one. It seems that to get a good cash price I would have to drastically lower my standard of living to a unit with no doors, no windows, rotten floors and framing and a reeking stench that Lisa's "Hambone" wouldn't care for. Oh, and they wanted 15K for that one. I didn't get a photo of this one. I went into a state of shock as soon as we pulled into the condemned mobile home park.
Thursday I caved in and hit some dealers. They actually do have a lot of used units, but are not advertising them all. They do some cosmetic work, new carpets, a coat of interior paint and offer a price that includes, transport, set-up, tie downs...............and the best thing, they will handle the permitting for the utilities.
So, we chose a single wide, 16X80, 3 bedroom 2 bath. It has a pitched roof with actual shingles. Actual square footage in this is 1216. Certainly more space than I have in this house I'm renting.
This dealer is in Levy County so they have connections with the building and zoning, electricians, plumbers etc. A great weight was lifted from my shoulders when I decided to buy this unit. It gave me some brain cell space to work on getting the land cleared so the home could be moved on to it. That was done yesterday.
Although I spent a little more on the house than I planned and had to do a little financing which will delay building a house for a couple years, I am very glad I went this route. The mobile home looks very good and smells good and I love the floor plan.
I feel like some real progress was made this week and things will move more smoothly now that the plan working.
Here's a photo of the property after the man worked for 7 hours clearing before the machine broke. He will put in at least another hour on Monday, maybe 2 since I added on a few more trees to be knocked down.
This is a pretty neat gadget, it pushes down small trees and bushes, then it chews them up and spits them out as mulch. He only has an area about 100X300 feet left to do and this is only some large "rosemary" type bushes, a couch, loveseat and chair. Yep, you heard right, there is an open air living room out in the bushes on the back end of the property.
There is a large clearing behind the pines in this photo where the mobile home will be placed. A few more trees are coming down right in front of the machine to allow a path from the trailer to come in.
I will be posting photos of the trailer and the land in my "Changes II" thread here in the Parking lot forum.
Molly
:^)))
Oh wow Molly - you got a lot accomplished - YEAH! I'm so glad things are moving ahead and I know you are relieved to have the housing situation in hand. And to have more space! Won't that be great? Your land is really nice and you're going to love living there - lots of gardening room.
Viola - GOB are glorious old broads or gorgeous old broads.....you have to over a certain age (which I don't remember) - and those that aren't there yet are Gobettes - of GOB wannabes! Hope that helps - LOL!
I'm on line early for me on a Sunday because my paper isn't here yet - and I can't start my Sunday without my crossword puzzle.....so here I am. I hear rumblings from the bedroom way...DH must be getting up now. He's suppose to work on painting today.....if not - I may have to have the 2 x 4!
Good day all.....and next time I'm on at night - it will be Good Night John Boy!
M.
wow Molly great looking site!
Welcome Dottik i have seen you in pet forum!!
Lots to do here today but will be checking in as usual- have a good day everyone!
Anne
Yep, Molly, Thank looks like a great piece of property to live on. Wow, you will have such fun planting things on there. Will watch your success on the other thread then. Thanks for sharing your life with others. Very interesting!
DR
Molly that is really great. I wish you the best of everything...
Gots to work now....do something....haven't figured out yet....
Worked two hours in the garden yesterday and then had to take a 2 hour nap....Geeez...
Have a great day, all.
Hap
Molly thats great - I'm so happy for you. This time it will be YOUR place so you can do as you please and not worry about the landlord, being homeless etc :>)
Welcome to both our new GOBs! Julie is going to have to get a bigger kitchen if we all drop in at the same time. LOL This is a great place to unload the stresses and strains that might make you actually USE that 2x4 not just wave it around a bit!!
I'm having a bit of a problem with that black hole at the moment too Aria. I wish we could fill the d... thing in once and for all so that none of us fell into it again. I came back from our trip feeling lighter and so much better, but a week on, life has knocked the stuffing out of me again and I found myself nearly disolving in tears yesterday at what was really a minor irritation. Climbing out is such hard work!!
It doesn't help that it cold here yesterday - I was forced out of my sandals into socks and shoes - and a sweater!! This is Texas not the frozen north!! Now I'm sneezing like mad so i probably caught cold as well. Fortuately cyber germs don't transmit - don't think its a virus! LOL
Y'all have a good Sunday.
Carol (the English one)
I got so excited when I saw the new thread for Molly's property, that I had to go there first! Welcome, Dotti, whether you are a GOB or a GOB in training, we'll enjoy having you come in.
Yes I think we will at least need more chairs, unless Julie lets us perch on the counters...but then where would we put the goodies? Well, we'll figure it out. Everybody doesn't come in at once like the chatroom.
Had breakfast out today, and now DH is sleeping off his Eggs Benedict. I'm going out to collect snapdragon seeds and this time I'm going to separate the talls from the shorts.. !
Carol, Socks, Shoes AND a Sweater!!? So much for zone 8! Haven't heard from DD since I sent her the link for the Nationals, so I expect she's busy with something or other.
I better get outside, sunlight comes in short supply these days... definitely a sweat shirt day here.
Good work Molly. The process must have seemed overwhelming at times. So glad to hear it is beginning to show some promise. Nice looking property, so different from what we have around here. What is your water source ?
'mornin everyone. DW went to the cabin this morning to button it up for the winter and I'm staying home to work on the sunroom wall shingles. The possibility exists for us to pick up the new pup next weekend, but nothing confirmed at this time. Neighbor brought over a tomato hornworm for identification yesterday. I'm sure he was disappointed at having only one as the recipe for deep fried tomato hornworms called for 17. Better luck next year.
Time to put on the sockies and shoes and get something done. Clothes oughta be ready for the dryer by now. I'm a lousy folder so I'll leave that for my sweet when she gets back this evening.
Robert,
Deep fried Hornworms? yeck! I shall not be a hog and will save them for everyone else.
The water on my land is located somewhere between 60 and 120 feet down. Not terribly deep since Florida is sitting on top of a lot of natural springs. Better than having to dig 2-300 feet down. But they tell me the water is very high in mineral content and needs softening.
It has been years since I have brushed my teeth with water colder than tepid. Down here, city water stays pretty warm year round in the pipes just under the ground surface. Shoot, sometimes you could take a warm shower and never touch the faucet with the "H" on it.
Well, guess I better get the nursery pots out of the van and get to the market. We're hungry and have just a couple saltines to munch on with a little peanut butter.
:^)))
Hey, Molly... I have a couple of control valves for a water softening system, had planned to sell them on ebaY. I'll look the brand up later, might be something you can use to cut additional costs.
Thanks Darius,
Water softeners are a big mystery to me at this point. Might need some educating.
:^)))
GOB are glorious old broads or gorgeous old broads.....you have to over a certain age (which I don't remember) - and those that aren't there yet are Gobettes - of GOB wannabes! Hope that helps
Love it. ROTFLOL Who knows what the magic age is?
Ann
Molly! Molly! Molly!!! I'm SOOOOOOOOO excited for you! I got cold chills just thinking how close you are to getting settled! I love your property. (Yes! Even if it more similar to mine (PINE trees!!!) than I'd care to mention. LOL) Good thing the water isn't going to have to be a deep well project. That's a BIG plus in my book. Here we just use what is called a 'sand point' and the guys manually drive it down...I don't think we're over 50 feet right now. And luckily we're in nearly pure sand so the filtration is exceptional. (We've got GREAT water...and no chemicals, either!)
I couldn't get over the price for your rental house (I read it in the other thread)! I'd never be able to afford anything down there if it's all *that* expensive.
Robert...couldn't help letting an ~evil grin~ take over on your recipe for the hornworms. But it was quickly followed by *YUCK!!!* LOL
M5 and Carol (the English one (hehehhe)) Yep! It's beginning to look like either my DH (or DAVE!!) will have to put an addition on to my 'kitchen' gab center. LOL But that's just fine...in the meantime, feel free to climb up on the counters...(I used to do that until I got to be a GOB. :-D))
Sure am glad we found out what the problem was that caused us all to be posting inside Darius' response. But you gotta admit, it was FUN! Kinda like telling ghost stories under the blanket all huddled up together. ~grin~
I spent a couple of hours outside yesterday afternoon planting a collection of Monarda that *finally* came in from Spring Hill. I love the quality and price of their stuff...but BOY can they ever procrastinate about getting my plants here in time for fall planting. Can you believe that the order was placed sometime in the last two weeks of August??? sheesh!
I still have some tall phlox on order that were shipped last week. Hopefully they'll come in Monday or Tuesday and I can get them in the ground too. As it is, I think I'm going to give all these plants a little 'greenhouse' to grow in (or snuggle up in!) for the winter. Maybe I'll be able to keep them.
Thanks for all the 'congrats' on my photos. I really did get a kick out of having them accepted for the site. I'll probably be sending a lot more to them over the winter. Nice to know that someone appreciates and can use my 'folly.' ;-)
Well...I'm not doing very well at commenting on everyone's posts today, am I? Oh well...winter will soon be here and we'll have so much to talk about that we'll need a new thread every single day. (At least I HOPE we have a lot to talk about. hehehe)
Y'all have a GREAT day!
~julie~
Wait a minute,,,,,I missed something.....what about these pictues Julie.....where are they? HELPPPPPPPPP
Afternoon Everyone!
McCool~~OMG "Nailing jello to a tree" Tee hee, I'm still chuckling over that!
Dottik~~Welcome to GOBs and GOBettes! Altho since it is October, I've been sneeking in a few GOBlins too.
So it was Darius that put us in the Twilite Zone. Remember how to do that for a Halloween post, ok?
I had a great time with Wandasflowers and Linda_Iowa yesterday. We discussed many ideas for my yard and I got great input from both of them. Then we headed over to the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. Most of you have never heard of our little paradise, so let me brag a bit. From the Arboretum website: " We are the only arboretum and botanical garden in the USA staffed entirely by volunteers. 375 dedicated individuals maintain the trees, plants and shrubs, and seed-gifts which are all labeled throughout the garden. The largest public hosta garden in US (13,000 with 700 varieties), recognized by the National Hosta Society." And it is completely free! I was a member of the Green Team for 4 years untill my health forced me to discontinue, I am still an informal volunteer tho. This is the Arboretum's 25th Anniversary celebration year, and there are many new features. They even have a special bed made up of 1590 alteranthera plants to make a logo bed. I wish I had gotten pictures when it was at its peak. Anyway, we wandered all over, oohed and ahhed like crazy ladies and had a great time. We were out there almost 4 hours. Then we went for lunch at Hudson's Bar and Grill. It is a new place, just opened last May. Really cool interior, 50's signs and decor, mini jukebox in each booth. Fabulous monster hamburgers and shakes. We were gabbing so much I brought 3/4 of my hamburger and fries home and the kids finished it for me, lol. I didn't tell them about the shake! I never would have heard the end of it.
I'm stiff and sore from all the walking, but it was soo worth it! And I fell asleep in the rocking chair unexpectedly, woke up with one shoe still on, lol. Wanda and Linda are just great ladies, and we had a wonderful day. Here is a link to the Arboretum if you would like to see it. http://www.dubuquearboretum.com/about.html
Now who else wants to come play in my backyard?
mg
Welcome Dotti, always good to have a new prospective on topics. Julie, BTW, I brought some folding chairs so maybe we can all squeeze in. Sorry for the misidentification Betsy Bug. It's good to know that you all have a good relationship. I've had the same MIL for 40 years, and we are still not close.
Okus, sorry about the black hole, here take my hand and I will help you up a little ways. Know that hole like the back of my hand. Maybe we can sell admission to it, and then charge for helping people out!! Nothing like a money making scheme!! Molly, great news. So glad that the plan is finally moving along. It will be so nice to have a "clean slate" to work with. And you will have the winter, to sit and plan!! Yeah, Darius has a lot of power. I wasn't there to witness it but it sounds strange. Ghost stories under the blanket, brought back lots of memories!! Robert, deep fried hornworms, never had them, so can't comment on the taste. Maybe they have a "tomato taste", if they do, it couldn't be all bad. They should be good for something though. DaisyRuffles, can I come help you dig some things. Some people have all the luck. I have a niece who dumpster dives to stuff, then sells it in yard sales. Maybe If I talked to her she would scout out some nurserys that are throwing plants away!!
Well I am going to go out and play in the dirt awhile, still have some things that need to be put into the ground. It is chilly here, It has forced me to put on long pants, but I am still barefoot. Probably won't put shoes on for another month or so. Just always plan to get them out before the snow flies!! I do wear sandals outside, but barefoot is usual attire indoors.
Will visit again later this evening.
Morningale, great web site. Lilyfan and Wandasflowers are great people. Met them at the Ky. RU a couple of weeks ago.Wanda brough her photo albums of her iris and daylilies, they were great. Glad you had a good day.
Dcat...~grin~ I *loved* the money making scheme! The only problem is that we'd probably be selling the tickets to ourselves and then we'd have no one to help us back out again! hehehe
Hap...the pictures are ones that I sent to the WI Uni wildflower identification site. Nothing all that interesting to you guys who live in FL. ;-) So you didn't really miss a thing, I assure you.
MG...that arboretum sounds WONDERFUL!! Maybe I could get DH to take me on a road trip over to see it. Glad you guys had a good time. (Hmmm *4* hours??? Do they have restroom facilities? I'd *never* make it for 4 hours otherwise. :-D)
Well...remember a few months ago when my DH and DS conspired to buy themselves a Camero RS that was supposed to have been *mine*? LOL It's not anymore! DS traded it for MY old Mustang back...then OTHER DS decided that HE needed the mustang more than I did so he traded a Jeep Wrangler to me for the mustang. Whew! Sound like a bunch of 'work' to get it all settled? Yeah, right! Now the *good* part. The Jeep is stick shift and rides like a buckboard. Really hard for me to hang on to when trekking through the backroads. I know cuz I just got back.
I can handle the stick shift alright...but I'm going to get used to having no suspension. (Oh yes...and there IS the problem of my legs being too short to reach the clutch peddle. Don't laugh! I'm 5'8" and have such short legs that I have to buy 'petite' length jeans....then I have to *shorten* those!! UGH! HEY ROBERT!!! Could you build me some blocks to put on them??
~julie~
By and large everyone sounds as though they are managing OK. Yes Julie, I second Hap's question about the photos.
mg. Your Arboretum is beautiful, and how wonderful that it is staffed by volunteers. Congratulations.
"probably won't put shoes on for another month or so". Seems Horseshoe has a similar preference doesn't he. Well heck defoe, it sounds good to this tenderfoot. Too many nails and slivers around here though.
Got part of the wall insulated sheeted and now shingled. Another 'but first'. First remove the 6' sliding glass door, then build a new wall, new single pane glass, then a couple years later new insulated windows, insulation, sheeting, and finally the shingles. I love shingles.DW won't let me shingle the outside of the house, but I covered everything else. Would like to shingle the fences along the property lines but neighbors don't agree. ( that's about $ 2,000 just for shingles of a lower grade). Why does everyone want to thwart endeavors??? The world is against me, I'm gonna go out and do something drastic and unheard of. Like maybe wash the truck !
Rob't, I love how you "patterned" the shingles!
Thank you for the compliments, I do love "my" Arboretum! Yes Julie, they have bathrooms in the main building, thank goodness. I think there might be bathrooms by the greenhouses too, but I'm not sure on that.
Hey guys.....they also have a spring plant sale.....lol. It's on Mother's day weekend. I can sleep a few people on beds and couches, and I have a ton of floor space in the kid's playroom downstairs. First come gets first pick. You might have to kick a dog or a cat out of the way tho! And I make a mean French Toast for breakfast.....
Bal~~I love your shingles. I like that you do kind of a free form with them too. Have you ever seen pictures of the wavy shingled houses? I love that style.
'nuff for now,
mg

You are too funny! WHAT an image that creates...
Julie----------WRONG>>>>>>>>>!!!!!!!!
If you did it, it would interest us in FL and all the rest of the world.....What ever one of our family does will always interest the rest of the family.
RIGHT GANG?????
Hap
I'M BACKKKKKKKK!! Man, didn't have a tv or computer from Fri until now- what happened in the world??? Oh, but it was glorious staying ontop of a sand dune, just watching the waves roll in and sipping wine!! House was to die for- (now I want one just like it) and gals I stayed with are my very best friends. We all love each other!! Shopped, ate out, ate in, and played CLR (dice game - if you don't have one, get it!! ) until our guts ached from laughing. I won the pot of 15 bucks, so I feel lucky!!
So much has happened here in just two days! We have another one in our midst?? Welcome Audrey!!
I won't need the 2x4 for awhile. While I was gone, DH assembled three plant stands, moved the furniture all around to accomodate it, did dishes, and low and behold vacuumed!! I need to leave more often!! What a sweetie he is (today...)
Gotta go back and read all the posts.....
Welcome back Sarv....glad you had a great time. Husbands do step up to the plate every so often.....Thank the Lord....
Welcome back sarv!
I still want to know where you got your magic clock....
mg
Congratulations Molly on getting your mobile home. I have lived in one for about 15 years and while it isn't as large as yours (14x65) it fits the two of us (and 6 pets) comfortably enough. Would love to get a double wide (28x52) which would fit on our land just beautifully but that's out of the question for now.
Okus, as far as the black hole, I can understand what you are going through. For years I lived with the black hole and with the fear that only bad things would happen to me (Anxiety disorder). Am now on medicine that helps, but still break down and cry for no reason. Have discovered my cats and dogs do a lot more to get me out of the hole than any person. Will have my large dog (15 pound Pom cross) get his ladder out to help provide you with a route up anytime-just let us know.
Thank you everybody for the welcome. Have really enjoy lurking and am looking forward to being out in the open. In the meantime, I think it's time to put the laundry in the dryer. I'll be back a little later. Dotti
Any one watching the Atlanta/Houston Baseball game? They are tied at 6 up, as of 5:51pm here. They are in the 18th inning!!! Almost 6 hours long.
wow!
And the Packers whomped NO, 52-3. And it wasn't on TV BooHoo!
