Attn: Dave ... or anyone, at the controls ...
This .. looks to be some kind'o bargain .. but, have gotta inquire: jes what ta dickens would a body be a fetchin' .. with such a subscription purchase as this ? (* see the screen capture at the bottom of my post *) .. LOL ..
Tis mitey trivial; true .. what with the current events taking place .. BUT, figger'd that it may possibly need a 'tendin' to, guys (?)
Straighten me out .. or, at least tell me that my ol eyes aren't completely failin' me .. already!! .. hee ..
- Magpye
Mite my eyesight be failin' me .. or, what ?
You know, I cannot understand this post. I see english words, but the arrangement of them make the post so illegible as if to be written in a foreign language.
Based on the screenshot you posted, however, I get the jist of your question, and I have corrected the issue.
Dave
Dave …
One could've very well applied the 'same point', to you/DG .. in relation to the referenced info (that had been provided by DG, prior to its correction) .. on the tab for ‘Subscription’.
The gist of my apparent misdemeanor, Dave .. has not ever been to deliberately torment you so; merely my implementing simple lil overtures in my chosen mode of conversing.
I, truly, had not remotely considered, that it would elicit such a reaction from you.
However, I am relieved .. for it is out in the open now. (perhaps only briefly, I fear).
Reckon it's jes a good thang .. that a picture says a thousand words, afterall, 'ey .. !
Kindest regards,
Magpye
You're welcome?
i'm glad i wasn't the only one. i couldn't understand it either! LOL i haven't been here that long and i thought it was a joke!
Ditto for me. Maybe it's amusing, in your opinion, Magpye, but it's both annoying and difficult to read.
pirl .. your sentiment has been duly noted also. Hey, it's a relatively simple fix for ya, I'll bet ...
- Magpye
hmmm, I have to say it was funny, but I had time to kill and was happy to waddle through the text and wierd spelling.
Perhaps not the best way to report an error or get something fixed....
On the other hand, I'm glad someone knows the correct spelling of "gist."
I have a soft spot for dialect stories (I guess that's the right way to classify them, anyway) - Mark Twain, Joel Chandler Harris and Thornton W. Burgess were on my best-loved authors list throughout childhood and I was glad to re-read some of those stories when I took American Literature in college.
Each of those esteemed writers had the ability to "do" dialect without overdoing it, and as a result, their stories were immensely entertaining and yet easily comprehended - even by a fourth grader (when I read all the Mother Westwind stories, often by flashlight after my bedtime ;o)
But I doubt any of them would have used that style of writing to correspond about a technical or professional matter, which this was. (And it was a good catch, by the way!) I hope you can also appreciate that we field dozens of messages every day - from issues reported in this forum and elsewhere, and many more requests/suggestions/questions at the heldpesk.
When you need us to do something, please keep in mind that straightforward, "short and sweet" messages with "just the facts" are really appreciated; screenshots are also helpful because pictures really can be worth a thousand words.
pirl, you got mail. LOL
Oh wow - this is completely off-topic, but Terry, you remember the Thornton W. Burgess stories???? They were by far my favorite books as a kid & I still have all the original books. (Wonder what they're worth right now - lol!!) In my opinion, no writer so far has ever compared with the quality of those children's stories.
I think I figured out the first post, but I haven't been able to decode the second one...
Ulrich....tsk, tsk, tsk. That is soooo not nice, - like brazenly passing a note in class. If the teacher catches you, it *will* be read aloud, you know.... (Yes, I am only gesting....errr, I mean jesting *grin*)
gist, jest, or any other spelling faux pas notwithstanding, we can all be happy that would-be subscribers won't suffer in confused silence over what they're purchasing.
Breezy, yes I do have them. Actually I think I'm supposed to give them to my brother, and I should probably box them up and take them at Thanksgiving to do a hand-off at our parents (both he and my mom hang out here, so they can take that as a public promise to turn them over....whimper, whimper, pout, pout.)
Our set originally belonged to my maternal grandfather when he was a child. They were handed down to my mom, and my brother and I both read them as children. I have no idea what they'd be worth now, although I marred ours by printing (with a pen, of course) their sequential order on the spines. An early exhibition of purely random fits of obsessive-compulsive behavior: I may have my books in alphabetical, sequential order, but my desk is a huge mess ;o)
The particulars of this thread, I see .. have long gone by the way side. I reckon, that I really should've expected as much ...
Dave .. as long as all of us (myself, certainly included!) .. continue to be 'civil' and manage to keep this apparent 'soul cleansing' on the most respectable levels imposed and 'expected' by DG's AUP and Code of Conduct - I'd like to make a most sincere special request of you. Please, allow this threads' continuance .. and to remain open to more replies and posts from my fellow DGers. It may prove to be quite interesting, and in the least .. quite enlightening.
Although I'd not realized that I may have inadvertently included the request of a 'poll' in its title -so be it. Also, please note, that I had clearly stated that I'd wondered if my eyes were indeed failing me .. and that I may have been misunderstanding the wording posed in the information provided, under the referenced 'Subscription' tab.
I'll be busy making hush puppies in my kitchen .. but, be assured that I am checkin' in .. ever so often .. to see whom else may be so inclined to 'unload' also.
So, guys and gals .. pull up a chair .. make yourself comfy, and please try to get this stuff off your chests ... Contrary to what my screen name generally implies - I shall not bark, banter, belly-ache, rebuff or attempt to retaliate verbally .. or otherwise, any further ...
You guys have the floor ... and by golly, try to make it count for something.
Thanks a whole bunch, and a mitey good evenin' to all ...
- Magpye
Terry, it was not I who mentioned spelling. And as to "You got mail" I see it done all the time without repercussions but never used it before, myself.
There may be times where it might avoid stepping on someone's toes publicly and it is better to tattle behind their backs.
I am known to get into trouble here plenty enough (and loving it).
Edited to recover a dropped letter. Sheesh.

LOL Ulrich, u always crack me up!
Magpye, u do have a talent for the dialect type of speech but I'm sorry to admit, I often skip ur posts. They are entertaining but my DG time is so limited, I do a lot of 'skim' reading and so have to skip ur posts. :( sorry
And I confess to using work abbreviations cuz that s how i type all day at work. I try to keep them to a minimum but if i get on a roll, more and more get used. Ur all invited to skip my posts if they re too difficult to read. :)
There's nothing wrong with work abbreviations or the normal abbreviations found regularly in internet/website/email posts. But this dialect business belongs nowhere except on one's own home webpage, corresponding with one's own friends/relatives, or in a homespun tale that one "might" (& boy is that a big "might") be wanting to sell to a local publication.
For a public website like this? Please try to use some semblance of the King's English.
Anyone who is still able to get cracked up in these serious times is very fortunate. Too dang many folks are too dang square to let go.
Keep on smiling, kooger!
Magpye, when I had the chance to read this thread during my lunch today, I nearly choked on my food, lol. You write as a someone from the south would speak I imagine but I can see that it's all in good fun. I have read quite a few of your posts (ok, I tend to lurk somewhat lol)and I can understand them completely. As mentioned, many writers use this technique to convey the language of the people in a story. Try reading an Irish or Scottish based story...woohoo...now that's fun...I love a challenge, lol. Your way of writing is apart of who you are, it always makes me smile and I wouldn't change a thang!
With that said though, I think when one encounters a typo/error, a quick email to the admin would be best so that they can address it quickly for the benefit of all.
Cheers,
Erynne

I enjoy Magpye's posts, atho I will agree when asking a tech question, maybe that isn't the time for it. For those that don't care for that style, skip them.
Ulrich? Nein!
Danke,
mg
Too funny! Are you really from Germany though?
Yahvol, long, long ago.
Guten nacht!
Ulrich,
The former East or West?
We were stationed in Dexheim and Mannheim 89-93. I'm very proud to say I was in Germany on November 9, 1989. I was in the hospital in Weisbaden where our son Nathan was finally born a month later.
mg
It became Wroclav, Poland, in 1945.
But, ja nie rozumiem polski.
Danke again!
mg
Erynne, people from the South do not speak like that except in cartoons!!! LOL
Magpye is a very intelligent woman, too intelligent for the "dialect" she chooses to use. I usually skip her posts because they are too hard to read.
I don't know about that....we had a contractor from the south come up to install our new computer system at the hospital and he sure had that accent going on. Sometimes it was hard understanding him but he was a hit with all of us.
Since you asked, and it appears that you really want more opinions, I have to say that I don't read your posts either. I'm sorry, but they are just too hard to read and I don't have the patience to try to decipher them.
maybe i've been "down here" too long??? LOL debi
I find it difficult to accept Magpye's style of "writing", if we can stretch it that far. There are dedicated teachers out there, like Mitch (75154) of Texas, who try to teach children English and then there's Magpye who distorts it. So thrilled to be leaving for two weeks.
Magpye
As someone who has difficulty imagining the different acents here (and occasionally needs help understanding some of the intricacies of American English) I admit that while the posts are charming, I often don't read those written in accent or dialect. I make an effort for Shoe since I'm used to him telling a great story but you can tell when he is writing a story type post as opposed to an informative one so I save those for when time permits. I'm only sorry I don't always have the time to try to understand others, I may be missing out on more.
I, myself was brought up with a very distinct dialect, I come from a country stuffed full of them. I have two small books written in the Black Country dialect (the one I was born listening to) and one of poetry written in the Hampshire accent (where I've lived a long time) and admit to having to read them out loud to understand what has being written. Without knowing at least the accent it's really hard to know what is being said by the words alone.

kewl does that come with fries?
I could both read and understand what Magpye wrote and laught about it, knowing that "someone" made a blooper :0) before I looked at the pic.
Wonder how tired that "someone" where at the time, trying to keep up with us and all our cravings, demands, suggestions and requests.
and by golly he is human (smile) sometimes its easy to belive that Dave and his crew are machines and online 24-7.
I read everybodys post in those treads I am interested in because in that way I dont misssunderstand as much as if you just simmer true the tread, but thats me.
If I notice that someone missunerstand me I do a short explaining in the tread and a more extencive one to the person in question.
You all have the ability and the choise NOT to read a post but please leave out the negativ thoughts you have, try to see the possitive in things instead.
free trancelation from a bibel qout
Its esasier to see the thorn in your brothers eye, than the pole in your own.
Best to you ALL
Janett
I must admit that I have a hard time wrapping my Yankee brain around the words when someone "writes" in the dialect in which they "speak". I will skip posts if they take too much work to decipher.
I love to hear a Scottish or Irish brrrrrogue and could listen to them all day (I watch "Most Haunted" on Friday nights just to listen to Derek!) but I certainly wouldn't want to READ that brogue written as a post.
