Did Emma have to evacuate? Has anyone heard from her?

Calvert County, MD(Zone 7a)

yeah, she did, good thing too!

Anyway, my heian no umi is really getting wierd. It's first blooms were fine, but now, every bloom is odd in some way. This is the latest and looks like it had a visit with Mr. Paper Shredder

Tazzy, that looks like one of the "flying saucers" types. neat, aren't they :)

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

zemerson - the suspect I.hederacea is definitely I.hederacea...are you having temperature fluctuations where your Umi is getting what looks like 'bent' and tirn(?)...
I'll second that call of Flying Saucers on tazzy's I.tricolor...you seem to know your MG's ,especially for a person who has only been growing for a relatively short time...

Nicholejean - that looks alot more like Mai Sugata than the previous pictures you posted...the chocolate looking Chachamaru may be giving a clue to what types were used to create that one...

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

This Akathoukinounni has had extra flaps on it a number of blooms this summer, but this is the first one I have seen that looks like a double.

Wow!! Awesome flowers today, tazzy I agree with the flying saucer, and I love the pink "split looking" one Zem, that color is so beautiful :)

lincolnitess I really love that color and the way it is doubling, it is just great!!

NicholeJean, beautiful as always. :)
ABOUT EMMA
I spoke to Emma earlier, they had power at the time, had lost if once and it came back on, They did not evacuate, her son and family are with her and her DH. When I spoke to her, she was doing pretty well, we talked for 10 or so minutes, she said from the way it looked on the radar, the eye was very close to them. I'll post updates as I get them

Hugs,
Janis

Lincolnitess, that bloom is awesome. Hope that vine makes oodles and oodles of seeds. lol

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

rh3708 - I have had Ipomoea nil reddish flowered types that were carrying blizzard genes.go' blizzaerk' on me after the first flushes of blooms...and some of the 4 different types of blizzards are known to show up as the plant is more mature...Do you have a picture that you could post(?)...

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

This is old whats his face ?
taking over the
castor bean plant
.Why can not the new Jap
ones be this healthy and grow

Ron, thanks for the ID confirmation. I. hederacea grows wild around here, but mine seems slightly different then the wild plants. My version has pale blue flowers that don't open fully unless it is veery sunny. The rays on my version are pink. The wild ones have blue rays in addition to the flowers. Mine have slightly tripointed leaves and the wild versions have deeply trilobed leaves.

-Zem

PS: also have Ipomoea pandurata and Ipomoea lacunosa (little white starry flowers?) around here :)

Westmoreland, TN(Zone 7a)

I will try and get a picture of it in the morning.
I think it looks like this but in pink

zemerson - Can you post a picture showing more of the plant and leaves...often the flowers and leaves on some very young plants can look different than the look of the more matured plants...but the differences you mention can also be features on some mature plants of some different strains of Ipomoea hederacea...I have some of what you are describing around here...

rh3708 - The blue photo you posted has the distinctive look of the Ipomoea purpurea flaked strain...do the sepals on the ANU that you are refferring to have the sharp pointy nil looking sepal;s or the flatter less pointy sepals of the purpurea...the seedpods on purpureas reflex(bend towards the ground) and the seedpods of Ipomoea nil(like I.hederacea) remain pointed up towards the sky...What are the seedpods on your plant doing(?)...Post a photo if you are able to for everyones reference......

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

Here is a photo of Ipomoea setosa that I thought was nice...early morning ...clear sky...

Just a quick note before I FINALLY get to bed to let everyone know that we made it! We actually were very lucky that that MONSTER 'Rita' veered more to the east of us or we would have had higher winds than we did. ALL of my plants that were not staked are FLAT on the ground. Guess I'll get out there tomorrow and see what all I have left. Glad I moved my containers to my outside building or those would have for sure been gonners.

Thanks so much for thinking about me. Can't wait to look at all of the photos tomorrow, as we were without power off and on today. Mostly off!

Here is my son, Jim, and Max.....Max thinks he is a small pup.
Acutally he is a puppy, only 10-months old.
His other female puppy, Jazz, is a Fila Brazillian Mastiff directly From Brazil.
Forgot were Max is from, but I think Puerto Rico.

Here is a bloom that I may have posted before.
It is a new bloomer that I grew out this year from 2005 seeds from PF that grew back 'True'. This was taken at 1:00 am and it is still open and shimmering - it's in my outside building.
