Morning Glories 2005 #23

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

VERY UNUSUAL Color for this JMG.

Another new bloomer for me that just started blooming a couple of weeks ago....
I don't even know what color to call it.
It is more of a Hazy, Smokey, Plum with Gray and Purple tones.
Came from my 'Henka Blue Type' seeds.

Anyone have an opinion of what color this should be called?

That's a beautiful color EmmaGrace! Maybe a Smokey Violet? I hope you and your family in a safe place. Today my Asuka blooms were about half the size that they were yesterday. Wed it hit 103 here and this AM it is 52. Was it the hot temperature that made the blooms smaller or the rapid cooling after being so hot? Are blooms normally smaller in cooler weather? Today my Akathoukinounni is also a different color. Usually it is blue, today more of a lavender with pink spots. Here are some blooms from this AM.

Janis - The very darkly colored blue flaked is almost fully pigmented...interesting bloom...the pictures of the sepals from the double throated bloom so far, confirm my 'prediction' as I count 9 sepals...there may be a smaller 10th one inbetween the two large sepals to the right side next to the smaller bud that is visible...

lincolnitess - cooler temperatures are more likely to cause the smaller bloom size than the warmer temperatures, but a very rapid change in the temperature like you described could add to the stress on the plant...it's getting nearer to the end of the season in the cooler zones and a tendency to smaller bloom size comes along with nearing the tail end of the season...

tazzy - The Mandeville Seed Co. ( now long out of business) was the company in upstate NY that takes the credit for developing the "Sunrise Serenade"...I tend to think that they got there hands on some of the 'hige' types and selected out from there, but the blooms that you are showing look 'roughly' like a 'hige',but one that is not so 'sliced up' looking...as to whether it is a 'Japanese MG' is a 'grey' area...it might be,or it may not be...I think there is more of a chance that the gene for the splitting in the corolla came from a Japanese source than not...

TTY'all...
