Morning Glories 2005 #21
have it spit some my way LOL
Any advice on growing them indoors?? Would love to have htem all year long
Janis, all I can say is give them something to climb! I have mine in a gallon pot (a nice gallon pot, not one of those black ones (they like nice pots, lol)). On a 4 foot bamboo stake, in an east facing window... as long as thay get enough light, and water, they do fine... we all know how hardy some of these are!
I think they like company too :) In and around my corner window I have a ChaChamaru JMG, a Heian no Umi JMG, an ipomea hederacea, several JMG sprouts (to keep me company over the winter months), a passiflora 'Lady Margaret, a passiflora suberosa, 2 passiflora caeruleas (for fruit production), all hopelessly entangled =D
They are all growing wonderfully!
-Zem
The Chachamaru likes the Caerulea... they bloom together a lot!

LOLOL Tazzy!!
I will give it a try Zem... I will miss the color this LONG COLD inter :((
Janis
Yep
for this fall/early winter, I have (so far planned) Arum's "that big pink one that you'll love", Emma's lilac tyedye and something from the kikyou mix.
-Zem
Janis, I especially love the shape of this flower http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=1769348 I think these two should get together!
Gail- it seems that you were right about the way the term picotee is being used..A web search seems to confirm your description....I picked up the concept that it was a lighter edge and included stripes from some trading partners about 10 years ago who were into petunias and MG's...about the same time that the yojiros statrted to trickle into this country...I do have a botany book 'somewhere' that did include as a second definition - a flower that has an edge different from the base color and with stripes,in reference to flowers that very often have a different colored edge...
the root word seems to imply decorated with picts...like a picot fence...
Emma - The reddish flower with the larger white to the throat area looks similar to the Wine & Roses, but I would be hesitant to say they are definitely the same...the photo posted by Laurrie in the database is for comparison is here
http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/55119/
Dennis - The response that I posted that was specific for you should have terminated as I have ammended it above...the rest of the posting was a general statement about the Plantfiles Database and was not 'targeted' towards you...I apologize for my lack of proper separation editing the first time it was posted...
It is obvious even to a visually blind person that people on the MG threads have fun and can be very lighthearted, but there is a stronger trend to take the ID's more accurately and therefore seriously, and I view that as a healthy aspect that will ultimately benefit Everyone who enjoys these flowers...
"I just learn as I go"...I think that is true to a large extent in some way for everyone on this planet...
rh3708 - I use the pencils with erasers on them, and I notice that most pencils still(!) do have erasers on them...I'm sure glad those erasers are there, because I use them alot(!)...I use the eraseable pens too...I have added mistakes to the database, but 'luckily' the staff responded to my request to correct the entry promptly...if you entered something into the database and found out that it was entered in error, and then notified the staff members responsible for making the correction, then you have followed up properly and should not feel bad about it...I saw the thread that Terry started on needing a correct ID,that resulted from your Database entry and I responded to it...I'm glad you made the 'error' because it provided the oppurtunity for me to voice some additional concerns about the Plantfiles in the thread...Terry has assured me it will be addressed...eventually,So,your mistake should lead to a better database,...if the Staff are able to 'get to it' ...
May I suggest that you share your photos in the regular threads first,to gather some feedback from the community before you post to the database...this way you will be able to share and post to the database if you so choose with some additional elucidation on your entry...
Dee - "to simply have fun, post our photos, trade our seed and learn."...As far as I can tell, that is what has been and still is happenning...the fun and photos are easier than the trading and learning...that involves a bit more energy investment, but the rewards are a deeper insight and appreciation of the wonders of Nature...everyone seems to be doing fine(!)...getting better at posting clearer pictures and identifying the species...Yes,there will be disagreements, but that is how progress is made...We all get to take a good(!) second look and go forward...
Thanks for all the beautiful photos you have shared and for your past and continued support(!)...
Janis - Thanks for the shower of blossums...the blue flaked one you posted is nice show quality...and this one
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=1769336
is very interesting...looks like it is trying to go double the 'Right Way'...where the flower petal doubles from the outside and the reproductive parts remain intact and fully functional...I know you tagged that one...
tazzy - the bloom you posted as half-flaked or half-baked is not a flaked type at all...that is an Ipomoea nil tie dye type that is a type of Blizzard...I always liked those...
Now, Attention (!) all (!) of the people growing the Ipomoea nil Fuji Shibori...It would be interesting(!) to see some clear shots and descriptions to the threads and to the database showing the outside base of the flowers and WHY this type is showing structural differences from ALL other Ipomoea nils that I have ever seen before...(sssshhhh!...there is one(!) other type showing the same unusual ID features too,but that is still a secret, that I will let one of the other growers share....)
Who will be the first to point out the differences visible on the base of the Fuji Shibori...I have 3 plants going...1 all pigmented flower,1 the lighter spotted and 1 the more heavily spotted and they are all showing the same exact unusual feature...even the one that seems to have reverted back to an all pigmented flower..don't feel too bad if you don't recognize it right away...I just took a good(!) look yesterday and said...Hey that is(!) different...
TTY'all...

lincolnitess - those are Blizzard types and the differences in the blooms are very characteristic of the way that type od Blizzard gene acts...the Tie Dyes are a type of Blizzard ,so I wouldn't be too hard on the source because you got some that are showing some really nice color patterns that don't always show up...I'll trade you for a few of those seeds...
Janis & luvsgrtdanes - Very nice photos! I just enjoy the many different colors. It's amazing how anyone can think these weren't created by an intelligent designer! Thanks for sharing, it motivates me to get out there and tend to my gardens :)
Dennis
Ronnie,
Superb blooms as always.
Wonder if this one could be from my 'Henka Blue Type'
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=1770532
Can't remember if I sent you any of these seeds -
but sure looks like part of that group.
Ron,
THANKS for starting up information relative to the Fuji's.
One of the MAIN JMG's I wanted to learn more about.
They are all so beautiful.
Susan,
I too LOVE THESE
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=1770809
and would also 'beg' for some seeds as well - if you have enough to share.
I may have already asked you - can't remember.
These are the ones that I showed you some very similar photos of
that I grew last year.
Emma
