Coffee and...Part 27...! :-D

I' m better!! No more grouchies - they left! I'm raring to go today!!

Last night had chinese with my folks - it was fun. But my DH and DF and DM cannot hear and we laughed and laughed at the things they got mixed up. Because DH is so sensitive to not being able to hear, he just smiles and says 'sure' whenever the waitress asks something. Extra fries - sure. Dessert - sure. I told him to stop saying sure all the time. How come when I ask, I get the 'huh?'

Came home and played rummicube - I won - thank you very much!

Both my sons just got big 'mixmasters' for their wedding. I was telling my mom that I would like one, so she brought me her OLD one. Now I didn't want an old one, but what could I say? Everytime they come out, she brings me more of her stuff. I may give it a try today on a batch of cookies just to please her.

Our cat got a hummer last night- I am so ticked at her. We were all sitting outside and she hopped up on a ledge by the feeder (she often hangs out there drooling) One stupid hummer came and sat on the feeder and she snapped him up FAST - smiling and licking her chops. I was so mad at her- gonna have to move the feeder or put something pokey on the ledge. Had three, now down to two.

Oh, I love taco bell - went there the other night. In fact I have some coupons sitting by the computer. Yum, ice cream and muffins - oh I love food!

I'm still all intact here- playpen and nursery still there - but there's cob webs ( if ya know what I mean LOL LOL) Oh I enjoyed that joke myself....

Pedicure - I've never had one - too cheap to pay for one myself and DH would never think of spending money on foot rubs. He occassionally will give me one - and I mean very occassionally (two a year) BUT whenever my sister comes we spend hours rubbing each others feet with lotion. I know that sounds strange, but we've been doing it for years whenever we get together.

Hope everyone is feeling better - Darius your eye sounds painful - you should post a pic so we can see how you look.

Just heard that Katrina may hit Cat. 5 - oh dear. Sounds like it is gonna wreck havoc.

Take care everyone - sure is good to be feeling better!!

Memphis, TN(Zone 7b)

MORNIN' ALL! Up and at it - rise and shine - bright eyed and bushy tailed!

Kooger - sorry you're still suffering with the chest stuff. I think mine is finally on the way out. I still have congestion and fits occasionally (nothing unusal for fits - LOL) - but am on the mend. Hope you and your DD get better soon.

M5 - you kill me! I'm trying to get the doc to "leave the play pen" but I have no real reason other than would like to be finished with it! For some reason she won't do it - LOL! I have no idea what menopause will mean for me - since Mom and sister both had "removals" prior - and never went through it! Hopefully it won't be a big deal! Oh and DH says that "folded up thing" at Taco Bell is called a Crunch Wrap. He's a huge Taco Bell fan too.

Sarv - I'm rarin' to go too this morning - after a week of being sick - I think that's a major improvement. So - gotta go catch up on other threads and get going.

And - FYI - Katrina is a cat. 5 now - and still gaining strength (looks huge on the radar) - so it could be bad. Everyone keep those on the Gulf in your thoughts and prayers.

Darius - hope this morning looks brighter - and remember - do something fun for yourself today - no excuses - push everything else aside and just do it!

Later all - have a glorious day!

Tried to post last night but it wouldn't 'send' for some reason. Maybe this morning will work.
Meezer, re: your lasagna bed, saw a neat raised bed some friends made that may be of interest. They started out with those flat cement roofing tiles poked partway in the ground and ran a band of 2X4's around the outside on top to hold it all together. It looks good, and seems to work well.
Defoe, that's terrible about the young girls horse. What an awful thing to happen.Bad enough under any circumstances, but at an event and away from home!. Feel so sorry for her.
Kooger replacing faucets isn't too bad, even the long 'frost-free' ones. Just need a wrench, replacement, joint compound or teflon tape and a desire to save calling a plumber. Oh yes, it helps to turn the water off first. Hope you get to feeling better soon.
Sarv, glad to hear you are 'grouch-free. Taco Bell is good, but I prefer Taco Time for their salsa. They have it in big dispenser cans and its great. Taco Bell only has those insipid little packs of junk they call salsa.I k now 'whacha mean about the hearing problems when dining out. DW has to "translate" what the waitress says for me. They won't look at me and talk slowly, just stand in the general area and address that part of the table. Its a nuisance at times.
How's the day turning out Darius? Are you doing OK? Hope the cut has healed and eye is getting better. Holding a world of good thoughts for you.
Did get some of the background removed from the doorpost yesterday, but lots to go.It will be a fun project. DW has been wondering if I was EVER going to cover up the plywood sheeting around the door. It's only been that way awhile,I think some 15 years or more. Well what's wrong with a little plywood here and there ???

My Goodness, Katrina was only a Cat 1 and yet worse than Francis from last labor day. Paybacks, last year I kept power through that whole thing while my neighbors in the next grid (over the fence) lost theirs.

Now most my neighbors have power and it looks like mine will be one of the last to get back up and running. I have an extension cord strung over here for my fridge, (but am borrowing it now for the puter). May have power by Tuesday.

We got wind from all directions at my house, so some of my poor little trees either snapped or came out of the ground when the wind switched back. We only got dead twigs and small branches from that big old mango tree this time. Being without power is the biggest thing right now.

My heart is truly warmed by everyones care and concern here. Now the tears are not for self pity but for the joy all my friends here bring me with your concern and caring.

I better get the cord plugged back into the fridge now and help Annalisa clean up her yard.

Be back whenever I can.

Love to all

Whew, Molly's safe, if unpowered. Hope the remainder of this storm doesn't do more damage. We bought a generator when we built our here in the sticks, and haven't had to use it. We did have a bad power surge one time that devoured my hard drive, now I run around and turn everything off when I hear thunder.

"turn the water off first," Robert, do you think you are dealing with a buncha blondes here? LOL Just kidding. I'm known for not turning the sink spray thingy off and getting a big shot of water all over the kitchen the next time the faucet is turned on . The cats run like lightening when I approach the sink. Incidentally, you must be linked to my DH who thinks the world can be repaired with plywood and duct tape.

Out for breakfast this morning, wheee!! no clean up again! Going to a craft/art fair with DIL later with no intention of spending any money. Unless I see something I can't live without. They spotted a house they are interested in, so we are trying to figure out a way to help them without ending up out-of-pocket on it. We might do a joint purchase, and then when DS sells his and repays us, we will do a quit claim on our part. Maybe . First I want him to deal with his bank, and see about a bridge loan. And get his house ready to sell. We want to help but want to see some effort on his part first.

Dcat, now see here... I brought your requested breakfast the other morning, tapped on the door, stood there holding french toast with strawberries and whipped cream, and all I could hear was snoring. We had to hit the road, so I left it by the door. Someone must have come along and snatched it up. This confirms the saying " You snooze, you lose."!!!

Sarv, those old stand mixers work forever, and do the job as well as a new one. In fact, they may last longer than the newer models. I don't know how many hand mixers I've replaced over the years, but my first one, a Sunbeam lasted for about 30. It's successors have not done as well. You can still get replacement whips and etc for them, so if the old beaters and such are bent or in bad shape, you can replace them.

Took the little Maverick out for a spin around the block and up the road. The far away neighbor , kitty corner from us,who has 5 or 6 horses, hasn't noticed that four of them have decided to venture out of the pasture and are playing in the road and their front yard. They are very obviously having a great time running in circles and discussing the adventure among themselves, lots of whinnies and snorts while they are tango-ing all over the flower beds and lawn. If they weren't so big I would have tried to get them back through the gate, but these are huge and they don't know me, except for the occasional carrot over the fence.

My sis and I have been grooming each other for years, from squeezing blackheads, giving home perms, to makeup experimentation, eye brow plucking in our teens. Later it was waxing, manicures, facials or whatever we could think of. We still do it when we visit, but we pay other people for it! Our mutual agreement when visiting is the visitor does NOTHING, no helping with food, clean up zip, nada, zilch.....which makes it like a luxury hotel vacation!! Her DH looked at us one time and said we must have been monkeys in a previous life because we were always grooming each other . We, on the other hand, assume his previous life was spent as the back end of a horse.

Gotta go move the sprinkler. And do something with that huge pile of chard I picked. Still no tomatoes, but we are feasting happily on the ones from our friend.

Hope all the ailing or blue are much improved, with no disasters looming on the horizon.

Here's the Maverick. LOL Ahh well, he could be sitting in a bar, or in front of a slot machine............! This is pretty harmless as far as addictions go....and keeps him happy. The truck on the left is the one DGS is working on.

M5- I always chuckle when I read your posts - you should be a stand up (or sit down because of years LOL) comic.

I am taking a break - oh it is glorious to feel good again. I decided to tackle one job today - cleaning out my laundry room - I must have adult ADD because I keep getting side tracked. Found some Brasso and decided to try it out on my old revere ware copper bottomed pans - hey it works great, but you need some elbow grease. So far I have three pans shined up - all laying on the counter for DH to see. I also have thrown out a ton of 'junk' that I keep storing - ie small hand lotions, bars of soap etc. If I haven't used it thus far it is going OUT!! It is so old I wouldn't even dare give it to an old folks home.

Banana bread made with the new mixer turned out great- had myself two huge pieces loaded with butter- yum Called my mom and told her it worked great- she was so pleased.

Former neighbor just dropped by with a salmon he caught. Told me he got over 100 perch the other day - wish he'd share those too! We love fish, but even tho DH has two boats, we seldom if ever go. And if we do go and catch some, he throws them back saying 'ah, that's not enough to clean'

Laughed at myself this morning. I was telling my mom that I found a table runner than she made me- I got it out and put it on my dining room table - looked nice. When she was over yesterday I showed it to her and she said she remembered making it. Well this morning as I was walking by it, I saw a tag on it - she didn't make it - I bought it!! LOL LOL I'm not gonna tell her - she was so excited that I was using it!

Good looking Maverik - we went to an old car show last night. DH wandered around telling me about all the cars there that he had had. I wish he would get an old one to work on - he just loves to putter about.

Betsy and Kooger- hope you both feel better. Go out and have some hot chinese food- a sure cure everytime.

Molly - yikes- no electricity - that's a pain. You should invest in a generator. I always tell myself to get one AFTER we have an ice storm and lose ours - do as I say not as I do!!

Dig- lucky you getting a load of compost. Maybe I should ask for that for my birthday. I would really like a wireless rain guage - only I want to pick it out myself!! We have one of those wireless thermometer and have more fun with it - it wasn't expensive at all - in fact I'd like another one for our up stairs - we aren't gonna heat it this winter and it would be fun to see what the actual temps are up there.

Well, time to work on the laundry room and put the gook on another pan - multi tasking today!!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

M5, I got a real laugh out of your suggestion to get a pedicure... I could just see Robert getting one and had a good belly laugh!

Molly, glad all you have is loss of elec. and that a neighbor is supplying some. I wish I thought our friends now in Kartina's Path would get off so easily.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

I'm hot, sweaty, sticky, dirty and tired! (I think that just about covers it all. LOL)

But then...I'm also THANKFUL, relieved and elated to find out that Molly is OK (YEAH!!! I was SO worried about you!)...and still concerned for those Katrina has set its sites on. STAY SAFE PLEASE!

I'm happy that those of you who were under the weather in one way or another are doing better today...and hoping that those who are still not up to par will have a better day tomorrow.

Time for a new session of the Coffee 'club'...

See ya at: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/540986/
