Janis - The second blue one...did a bee get extra hungry or was that a hand pollination attempt or what(?!)...
The sunflower shot is an unusual angle...reverse gravity...what's up with that(?)...

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

Sad silk after the sun comes out, I needed these in shade more, they stayed open all day long last year :(

ROFL I never even noticed I rotated it the wrong way Ron!!!! Well, at least I know you looked at it :) LOL

The blue one with the bee was how it was when I went out. That was the first pic I snapped, he was just making a mess with his food I guess :) I have some buds picked out for tonight, I'm gonna try to bag and see what happens.

Keep your fingers crossed :)

Laurrie - We have to try to select for some stiffer corollas with sturdier ribs...coupled with alot more reflective particles might help to keep them up longer, the way it helps the tropical beach types...

Janis - pick flowers that are easy to access and have all your tools ready...You can use a piece of muslin cloth to cover the flowers also, but a clear material allows you to see what's going on....
I was reading someplace where a guy was recommending sunflowers to stop bindweed and other MG's from spreading...I don't think the sunflower treatment for bindweed is going to work...not seeing the way they climb up yours....

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

Ron, I would agree there, I think the rain all last night had a little to do with my droopy blooms today, but I think if one could be bred with stiffer corollas, that would be the ticket!!

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Ron, I purposely planted mine that way, I wanted the MG's to vine up the sunflowers so that I could make a "sunflower house" for the kids. Our didn't turn out like we had planned tho. The weather has been so goofy the sunflowers didn't grow like they were supposed to. The object was to grow the MG'sto the top of the tallest sunflowers (you use 3 sizes of sunflowers) the run strings arcoss the tops of the sunflower stalks, so that the mg's grow over the house like a roof.

Hope that made sense LOL

Janis

Sounds like it would be a fun place to play, Janis!

Here is showing the really red color of Tobihino, even at this late time of day the little bugger stands straight up asking for attention, but the outer edges have already "melted" away :(

Laurrie, what is the name of Ms. Streaky? It's fantastic as is Tobihino!

Joseph

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

Joseph, I will have to run out after work to get the tag from that one, I had thought from first glance it was Matsukaze "pine wind" but mine last year didn't have the pink rim inside, sooo need to see if I can find the tag in the pot to verify what it is for sure.

Here is Seiryu this morning

Woofens, that white with the blue streaks is fantastic. One thing I have to say is I have yet to see a JMG that is not beautiful. Here are 2 of the blue splashed ones I have. They are getting more white on them and look like some I've seen on the threads before now.

Golgi, I agree with you that the blue vine of mine looks like Akathoukinoumi. I will get some photos of the sepals and leaves and post them sometime to compare. Here is Fijimo Momo again. It is doing the best of any of the JMG for me.

Blue Silk looks so fragile. Wonder if it could put up with NE heat? Here are my 3 sets of metal trellises that hold some of my morning glories. They are rapidly eating up that side of the front garden.

The Asuka-Nots look like the Star of India I am growing this year.

Hi everyone,
OK, it's gonna take me a while to get caught up with your awesome posts.
Was out-of-town this weekend.

sbarr,
Hello Sandra -
Good to hear from you all the way from Dublin, Ireland.
Wish you were not so busy right now, so you could join in with us here.

Ron,
"Emma, It looks like there's some overlap in the Akatsuki no Hikari and the Akatsuki no Kaori...
Are you saying the 'Tanchou' and 'Heian No Kaori' are the exact same" ???
I've been trying to see if I can notice the difference. Only thing so far is my last years blooms of
'Heian No Kaori' didn't have the Mauve-Pink color streaking out of the throat as the 'Tanchou' did.
However, my 'HNK' from this year DO have the streaking.

Joseph,
I am noticing that you are starting to get more and more blooms that are all beauties.
Especially like 'Cynda's Surprise'.

Eliza,
I also have a MG that looks very similar to this one [Seeds are White]
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=1707341
The color of mine does not have the Blue as you have described. I describe mine as 'Pale Lilac-Purple, with Purple Star and Fuchsia Halo at Throat'. And, mine also 'Glitters'. Actually looks like Satin.
Here is one of my blooms

Laurrie,
LOVE your 'Tobihino' -
It really does look 'Red'.
Or, is it more of a Dark Rose-Red?

Ron,
You are coming up with some great beauties too!

Ronnie,
Yes, I did grow a JMG last year that was a 'Pink Streaked', as I called it.
And Very Pretty.
Here is one of last years photos
