Morning Glorys 2005 # 7

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Newest Thread................and what do I have to start it with will lets try the "Orange Mt. Fuji" or "ChaChaMaru" that sitll isn't Orange. It is more of a Mauve Brown but I sitll love it anyway. In the photo it looks more Rose Pink than it does in the Flesh so to speak. It is more of a brownish color than anything.

Oh goodie a new thread :) I have some comments for answers I got back on the other thread so I hope I don't confuse anyone LOL
Willow, that is beautiful. Is this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7701804993&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1 the same as yours?

I just bought these off Onalee.

QueenB, thank you so much for identifying the MG's for me. I'm going to DMail you in just a minute about the Blue Star/Flying Saucer seeds.

Everyone, they are all beautiful, and if I can get my lazy butt outta bed in the AM tomorrow I"ll see if I have any more.

Also, does anyone know anything about the dwarf morning glories, the convolucea? (I know I spelled that wrong) I have some questions about some I have called dwarf white also. Would really like to talk to someone who is knowledgable about these :)

Hi Janis,
I am growing several 'Dwarf' Japanese Morning Glories.
In Japan they are called SunSmile.
All have Beautiful Variegated Leaves -
Except for the SOLID White.
AND, I'm not sure if the Solid White is called SunSmile -
but would like to know. I've never seen the Solid White on any of the JMG sites.
They have a creeping habit and will 'guess' creep 4'to 5'
I had one trying to climb my fence yesterday, should have let it go
to see what it would do....lol
Also, they are Ipomoea nils

Emma,
I have a package of the SunSmiles I haven't planted yet.... but they came from a seller I have heard is not so reputable, I guess is the word.

I'm not sure where I got these (prolly eBay) but theyy were labeled Dwarf White Picotee Morning Glory. Here is a pic of them they are in a pot on my porch. I have forgotten about them til I saw one of them bloom in its sad little dixie cup LOL I've been getting about 1 bloom a day, each on a different plant, but they have each had at least 1 bloom They are weird, but pretty :)

Janis,
That looks like the Solid White Dwarf Picotee that I'm growing. Also, one of the Sellers on eBay is selling seeds that she got from me that she grew herself. These do make nice Hanging Basket plants, but do much better in the ground - at least for me they do. I'll have plenty of seeds this fall if you'd like some. Right now I do still have a few seeds of my Dwarf 'Light Pink' Picotee with Variegated Leaves. I assume this would be the SunSmile. I can't tell the difference. My SunSmiles that is growing now are 'Brown' [which is actually more of a Rose Silk Bloom color on one, the other that I took a photo of this morning has a little more Brown in it. Also, this bloom has a 'slight' Picotee Edge. My other SunSmile blooms are 'Light Pink'; Lavender; Rose-Red with a Picotee Edge; Rose-Red Solid - No Picotee. LMK if you'd like any of these. I'm just letting them go, so they are open pollinated.

I love the sun smile. I planted them in my nephews memory (thanks Joseph) and I have a brown and rose. Both are so cute

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Emma, your Solid White ones look just like mine. I planted all I had, so I'd be glad to get some more of them, and I'll take any of the sunsmiles you want to send, I'm SO addicted to MG's.... I've got every different type I can get my grubby little paws on :) I'm hoping to have Dawn on Mt Fuji and Snow on the Beach Japanese MG seeds this fall. If I get some you are more than welcome to them. I've got them in seperate planters, as far apart as I can getthem from all the other MG's and I"m hovering over them looking for signs of blooms so they don't get cross pollinated :)

You sent me some solid white, Emma, and I grew them this year. I also had some 'mystery' seeds that didn't name the color, only what it was. Turns out I have three packages of the white dwarf, but in one of the packages (not yours), I got a variegated purple creeper that has a white picotee. It looks exactly like the one I bought from Walmart a few years back called 'Good Morning Violet'. The cats had killed the seedlings I had from that one (only three seeds!), so I was estatic when I saw it bloom! I'm going to get a few more seeds from it this time!

I have noticed a difference between the three plants, though. Yours tends to just bush (no runners) along with one other, but the last one has put out short runners. Weird. Superdwarfs?

Here's my Yamatoji from this morning. This is the first nice flower I've gotten of this one.

My Heian no Umi...I'm so mad that this shot came out slightly fuzzy...taken without a flash early this morning.

This is the biggest, fluffiest Gray Lady I've had yet. It actually looks more like a JMG than normal.

Thumbnail by QueenB
Shepherd, TX(Zone 8b)

This is actually a photo, but it came out fuzzy, so I applied a little special effects in Photoshop and made myself a beautiful watercolor painting!

Janis,
I'll be happy to send you seeds. I'll be doing some shipping tonight and tomorrow, so send me your address.

Stacey,
Oh wow, I'd love a couple of your 'Good Morning Violet' seeds. They sound very pretty. I grew one last year that was a 'Plum', but apparently it crossed. I just left it alone last year so it was open pollinated. Got a VERY PALE SOLID PINK out of one and I forget what color the other two were, I think 'Rosy-Red', I'd need to go back through my photos that aren't organized yet. Only planted 3-Seeds and they didn't do squat, so no seeds. I'll plant more of them next year in a better location and see what they do.

Strange about your comment about the White Picotee Dwarfs that I sent you. I too have had some 'bush'. But most of them had some 'serious runners' - which is where I guessed they were 4'-5'.
I'm growing them again this year and some are just sitting there doing nothing, but most of them are just now starting to run. My SunSmile's that I planted [After I planted my White Dwarfs] are just running like crazy. Can't wait to see how far they will go.

Your 'Yamatoji' is incredibly beautiful. What a keeper.

Here is a photo of the Plum Creeper that I grew last year.
Very unusual....

Emma, how come you didn't send me some of that purple creeper?? Bad, bad, Emma!! LOL!!

Here's an old photo of the 'Good Morning Violet' that I took. The one outside now looks just like it.

Here's a recent photo...I can't believe I got the same thing by accident!

Oh, Stacey, yours are to die for.
OOOOokkkkkkkk,
I'll send you some of my Plum Creepers.
Just remember that I don't have a clue what they will produce.

I'll put them in your stash for you.

BTW, got your seeds today.
THANKS!
THANKS!
so much.

Nice! What's it's name?

I can't believe you just got your seeds, Emma...I sent those out awhile back. I wonder what the PO did with them for a week?? BTW, I got yours too. Thanks!

Wichita, KS

my seed packet from a trade is calling it Chocolate Silk? Is that it?

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Stacey, you are right, I never pay any attention, but the postmark says July 19th.
Heck, it's SO far away, they probably got confused....LOL
I went through Shepherd 2 times a couple of days ago.
Think about you everytime I go through there - or, on my way or back from Houston.

Shepherd, TX(Zone 8b)

nuts4spuds--it looks right to me. I guess the sun or the flash is bringing out more of the pink it. I grew them last year and I wasn't too crazy about the color myself, even though they made impressive flowers.

Emma LMBO! Yeah, Houston does have a problem when it comes to sorting mail locally! You probably could've stuck your head out of the window and yelled at me! Remember the train trellis going over the road as your going south to Cleveland? I'm only a mile or so away from there. You actually don't live that far from both my dad and my uncle. My dad lives in Oakwood (between Palestine and Buffalo) and my uncle lives in Tyler.

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Stacey,
Know right where Oakwood is.
I live one block off of Hwy 69 in Jacksonville.
Next time you go to Tyler, you will drive right by my house.
Stop by -- I'll be in the house that looks like a Jungle....LOL

Shepherd, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh, so you didn't blink when you went through Oakwood? LMBO!!

Shepherd, TX(Zone 8b)

WHOO HOOO!!! I FINALLY got a flower from my 'Fujishibori' to brag about! I was really starting to worry that is wasn't going to give me any nice flowers at all. They've all been kind of puny and malformed up until now. Even this one is flawed, but at least it looks like a flower instead of a bad biological experiment.

'Fujishibori' is stunning. i've never even seen a morning glory like that. here's my same old purpurea vine but on a new trellis at a new angle! haha.

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Stacey, that watercolor you did is awesome.
What is the MG?

Shepherd, TX(Zone 8b)

Emma...The watercolor is 'Blue Silk'.

Naien...There are a couple of other colors out there that have stippling like that, one I know being 'Kanoko' (Fawn Spots). You'd have to look in the database under JMG's to see if there are any others.

Leander, TX(Zone 8b)

Woo Hoo. I am loving everyone's photos - they are gorgeous. We had two blooms this morning. Been kinda slow around here with the heat and storms!

This is Split Personality

Kauai,
Very Pretty.
I grew 'Heian No Kaori' last year and really enjoyed it.
Still waiting for my blooms this year.
And, I 'thought' I grew 'Split Personality' a couple of years ago, but it looked nothing like your photo. That is awesome.

Leander, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks Emma. Split Personality is usually darker. I just caught the sun shining through it and it made it look really faded. I just liked the design.

Shepherd, TX(Zone 8b)

I've got seeds for Split Personality too, but haven't grown them yet. They always seem to get displaced by something else. :-/

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Stacey, I'd like a couple of your Split Personality Seeds if you think they are really 'split',

I sort of remember growing mine and that they were more of a magenta color, maybe even a deep pink. But I don't recall the petals being split that much.

Kauai17, Is this your first time to grow Split Personality?

Shepherd, TX(Zone 8b)

I don't recall how many I have, but I'll look...

Ahhhh my Blue Silk JMG is now flowering regularly, and I can see why people go bonkers over it. It is beautiful!

Shepherd, TX(Zone 8b)

Ain't it great?! They (the flowers) almost don't seem real. I don't know why Park's Seeds stopped carrying them...I think they're one of the most beautiful of the JMG's.

Here's a whole 'Fujishibori' that bloomed for me this morning...

Thumbnail by QueenB
Leander, TX(Zone 8b)

This is my first year to grown any type of MG thanks to a few ladies on here...I got hooked fast. Here is an older picture. This is what the color really is, but my petals are still split. Is that bad???

Thumbnail by Kauai17
Shepherd, TX(Zone 8b)

No, it happens pretty frequently with morning glories. I'm not sure what causes them to do that, but many will just grow that way.
