Morning Glorys 2005 # 5

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Ok new thread for the Morning Glorys.
You all remember the contest in the fall that Dave has. Be sure and take some good picutures so you can win the Prettiest Catagory...........

Since so many are doing Beni-Chidori here is another photo of mine. I am starting another set tomorrow since these have just about bloomed out. It is sooo hot my vines are really suffering.

Ronnie,
Even more interesting.
Your blooms look the same too -
PLUS they have more of a picotee.
I know that year before last when I grew my Cameo Elegance
they had more of a picotee also.
But these are blooms from my seeds and I 'know' I didn't mix them up.
AND, my Beni Shibori seeds are From Japan.
hmmmmmm

Dee,
I've also had a couple bloom the color of yours with more of a Plum tone.
Can't get to the photo at them moment until I organize them.
What a HUGE job that will be .... LOL

My first RED MoonFlower Bloom this evening - Actually it is 'Lavender'..... Anyone know the scientific name?

Thumbnail by EmmaGrace

Emma, the scientific name is "Ipomoea iwannahavit" LOL

Wichita, KS

LOL Gerris!

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Too Funny, Joseph,
I still have a few seeds that I'll send to you.
Got them from Cat.

Thank you, Emma, that's so nice of you. I have a vine I need to get outside, started it about a month ago, called Star of India, and its first flower today just knocked my socks off. Incredible almost other worldly flower on it. I need to get a picture of it to share.

Is there something wrong with this web site? My "watch" function of this thread isn't working, and the address exchange does not load, what else is amiss??

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Does yours look like my Star of India posted today on Part 4?

Emma, I will have to look...

Geez, now all the ill parts of DG are working for me...(slinking back into his cave, sheepish look on his face)

Emma, My Star of India is lavender, with the same halo picotee, and it has a darker lavender star, and arc-like lighter patches between the spokes. I loved your Star of India flower too. I got my seeds that gave me this vine from an eBay purchase from you-know-who.

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

I have those seeds too, but not sure if I started any of them.
Guess I'd better check it out so I can get some started.
They sound lovely too.

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi guys....Gosh, I have lots to catch up on! So many here have such beautiful blooms :)!!!!

Emma, you have some BEAUTIFUL bloomers! You and WW have me beat hands down...lol. I gotta do some real scrambling to try to catch up.....

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

So far I think Emma is the winner here. She has more varities planted than I do or I think so anyway. I know I have lots that bloomed eariler but she just seems to go on and on.
Emma you must have a couple of acreas to have all them planted..................LOL
or they would be in you lap to.....LOL
Later------ gotta go out and make rounds.....

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

This is the only newest bloom, "Shutaki".....spelling might be off.
I am still not impressed with this one and from what you have all
let me know how your blooms looked I am beginning to think
this is not "Shutaki"............
It is a pretty Morning Glory but I think my "Chinese White Phoenix"
is prettier and I know it is larger and more ruffled.

I still need to figure out what this one is from my notes when planted.
I 'Think' it is a Heian Umi CROSS from last year - not sure yet.
Not a great photo as it was too high up.
The blooms on this baby are 6"

More beauties, Emma. All my plants are turning yellowing and burning up, not just my mg's. Our sprinklers are running for 30 min. in each zone every other day, but it is has been so hot, that it doesn't seem to be enough. We don't have any shade, and this 102 and 103 deg. weather is just too much for anything it seems.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Emma it is Shirayuki I just didn't know how to spell it...LOL........these Japanes and Chinese names are just not in my vocabulary and spelling is hard enough in English....

I love the Chocolate plum and can't wait until you get seed. I know that is one i want for sure............I hope the weather dosen't burn up all your stuff.

Sylvia your right everything is just burning up and it seems as if watering dosn't help one bit. We are not quite as hot as you are but still it is more than the plants can take. I have loss EEars and some of the Dasiys and I noticed that my Thumbergia is struggling. Well I guess as long as we don't burn up we can always replant....
Try and stay cool all and don't over do your gardening.

Dee

Ok Dee,
Got the Pod marked with YOUR NAME.
Also marked another Gorgeous Chocolate Plum with White Picotee for you.

Capistrano Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

that red moonflower is stunning! any chance you have seeds?

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

We need rain, rain and more rain. I was afraid when we had rain all fall and winter, that our summer would be hot and dry. I hate to be correct. LOL

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

My pale blue mg bloomed with 2 blooms today, but the blooms are so fragile that even by 8:30 this morning they looked all limp. The color is beautiful, but guess they can't stand our heat.

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

naien,
I have promised what I had left to another friend, but I think I have more of the same ones. Let me check and I'll LYK.
I also have seeds from 'other' Lavender MoonFlower Vines that I'll LYK about as well. One develops a tuber and should remain hardy for you in your zone. I'll check my seeds and contact you in a couple of days.

minigrannie,
guess you just need to get outside EARLY one day
and get us some great photos....LOL
K?

Capistrano Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Ipomoea muricata is the "violet" moonflower, Emma

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks naien,
I started this one last year [has a tuber]
but no blooms yet.
I still have it in a container, in fact, just repotted it today
because I don't know if it is hardy for me in my 8aTX Zone.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I love the pale dusty rose and all the blue ones are to die for. I am having EXTREME zone envy it is about 65 tonight and will be days before we dry out. :o(

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Dee those blooms from my Plum Frost seeds are awesome.
I haven't gotten any with that color.
They look VELVETY!
Same me a few seeds. K?

OK, I AM SOOOO CONFUSED.
Last year I planted Heian Umi seeds
and they were a Very Deep Plum Color.
Planted again this year from last years seeds.
Exact Same Color.

Seeds from Japan, and I've looked at the name on
the packet 34 times at least to be sure I am reading it correctly.
It Says: 'Heian Umi'
Here is the EXACT seed packet photo listed as 'Heian No Umi'
http://lionnet.fc2web.com/JMG/MGsell2.html
So, what is the difference between
Heian Umi
and
Heian No Umi
????

Now, I'm even MORE confused after seeing Pam's GORGEOUS Heian Umi.
Pam yours looks like a very pretty Rose-Red color.
Or is it the lighting and your blooms are the Deep Dark Plum???
Then, on Pt. 4, QueenB posted her photo that was also a very Dark Plum, calling it Heian No Umi

My brain can't handle this.
HELP!

Here is my Heian Umi
