Metal Labels

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

I posted this on the perrenial forum, but I thought maybe some folks here might not go there.

I'm down to my last 25 markers from the last co-op, and I got 300. How are y'all faring? I think we paid about $26/100 including shipping then. At the web site they're $36.25/100.

Northern California, CA

Check the prices at my favorite source, I usually order "C" and "M" styles.

C = 25.25 per 100
M = 23.10 per 100

The prices shown include shipping:

That's the same company. I like the F - the tall ones. The shorter ones get completely lost in my garden.

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

Carmen, a friend and I split an order from Pawpaws.... it might be something for you to consider-- maybe there are some folks closer to you who are also in need. Ordering 1000 markers definitely makes the price more attractive. A flat rate priority box that seals on both ends holds 500 labels perfectly :-)

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Melissa, you're talking about the $7.70 box? Good idea - thanks!

Hmmmm. I could use at least a couple hundred labels at this point and I see PawPaw has free shipping on U.S. orders. If one or two others are also wanting 200-300 labels, we could perhaps split a thousand labels three or four ways, and even with shipping, it would be less than the cost of each of us ordering that many on our own.

I'm game if anyone else is, send me a note ;o)

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hey, Terry, I want in on this too, I would like 300 of them, are they the metal kind, that you write with an paint pen or you use an ink pen to carve in the letters? let me know please, cause I am interested in. Thanks,
Ruby

Palmyra, IL(Zone 5b)

Which ones are you going to order.rose_petalzz and I are going to split an order. We'd like tall ones too.Jody

Palmyra, IL(Zone 5b)

Oh We'd really like the kind you can write on with a ball point pen.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Yeah, those you have to use paint on, no thanks, but thanks for the offer anyway. I am lazy, need to get the ones Jody listed. No fuss, no muss.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Yep, these are the tall metal tags, which use a Sharpie or other permanent marker. The cost is $0.29 each for a thousand (plus the postage to ship them to you) and I'm looking for one person who wants ~300, or two people each wanting ~250.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

If you can come down just a hair further, I would gladly take 200 more.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I'll count you in for 200. That will leave 800 to split three ways (it doesn't have to be exactly in thirds, though - I can be a little flexible on how many I keep) if we can find one more person who's interested.

Palmyra, IL(Zone 5b)

Which ones are you getting for .29?We have been all over the internet and find nothing better.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

The tall display markers (Style "F" at Everlast) - and I think I misquoted the price - they're $281.50 per thousand, or $0.28 each ;o)

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi, me again, okay, how much will the shipping be, and how are we to pay for this, check, paypal, money order, ect. Cause I may just be asking if I can order some too, just have to not be lazy daisy, and get a paint pen!!! Ha ha. Thanks, great idea.
Ruby

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Ruby, don't send anything just yet - I just need to know for sure if you're in or not (so I'll know whether to accept or decline anyone else who comes along later.)

I'm going to be out of pocket for a week starting next Wednesday, and I'll get this firmed up when I return. As far as I can tell by Melissa's suggestion, if you want 200 or so, the cost will probably be $7.70 shipping for a flat-rate box (or less, if there's a cheaper way to send them.)

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

sounds like a co-op in the making!!!
i could use 200-300hundred! ;)

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Nope, not a co-op. Let's not even go there ;o) But splitting an order of 1,000 with a VERY small group seems like a pretty good idea, considering the price break for 1,000, versus the price for 100-999.

So far, I have:

pins2006...200 or ???
badseed....200
notmartha..200 - 300
me..............200 - 300

rose_petalzzz....are ya in or out? (No pressure but I kinda need to know whether notmartha and I will try to make do (

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

I can take 200 if you have not already met your numbers.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Peggy, you'll be my fifth and final person if rose_petalzz decides to wait and see what else she can find.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes count me in for 200 please. Thanks, sorry was watering outside. Hope I am not too late.
Ruby

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

No problem at all Ruby. Okay, as it now stands:

pins2006........200
badseed.........200
notmartha.......200
rose_petalzz...200
me...................200
Total.............1,000

If that looks good to all concerned, plan on hearing from me soon after July 6th and I'll get all the info rounded up and an order placed with Everlast.

Mystic, you've got mail ;o)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Can I ask a quick question (without getting slapped)? Do you mean to order the ones that are 21" tall? I am thinking my others are the E which is the 11.5" ones. What are you marking with the tall ones or how far are you putting them in the ground?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I never slap, silly girl ;o)

These are the 21" tall ones. I'm planning to use these on trees, shrubs and perennials, and I figure I'll push them as far down as it takes to make each one look "right" - I don't like having them so low to the ground I can't read 'em from a standing position.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

You mark your trees and shrubs? Maybe if I had some I liked...LOL

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

I like the tall ones, too, for daylilies. Mine always get covered up in foliage and I'm forever pushing around the leaves to see what they are.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

'chele, in the past year, we've planted two very large beds of trees and shrubs - around 40 or 50 in total, and a third bed is planned for this fall, with another 15-20 specimen plants. (They'll make a horseshoe shape when all three are done, and divide the backyard into more manageable areas.)

Since they were all chosen especially for these areas, I'd like to keep 'em straight, lolol.

Then I have a border of roses, and a lot of hostas, heucheras and other perennials.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I do understand. :) Now that I am trying to photograph all my daylilies, I am understanding the wisdom of taller markers! LOL I think they might look silly sticking up in the winter, but you would have to know how many hems I have and how they are clustered. I have a little 'wire' cemetary. LOL I have been very conscientious in marking all the lilies, daylilies, special perennials, etc.

We have lived in this house 14 years. When we moved in, there was a huge white cedar at one end of the house, a huge maple in front of the house, five ugly shrubs in front of the porch, a prunus at the corner and some $%^&*(* locust trees up on the hill. For perennials, the full collection consisted of the old purple iris, a handfull of yellow daffs and an icky red and yellow tulip that I can't get rid of because it lives in the roots of the above mentioned maple. LOL EVERYTHING else that is here is "all about me". Maybe we oughta bump the order up to 2000 so I can get more and Mystic can get in on this. (Now, I will duck and run!).

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

2,000? Sigh. You oughta be bopped on the head for that one. But I think you're younger and faster than me, so I'll refrain from trying to chase you down ;o)

However.........

if there really are others who want in...........

I'll go up to 2,000 plant stakes. (Banging myself on the forehead - WHAT am I thinking????)

Post here or email me if you're interested in getting some plant markers. I'm not going to contact Everlast until after 7/6/2005. (And if anyone else would rather order the second 1,000 themselves, and share them with a few DG friends, that would be FINE by me ;o)

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

I'd like to get in.....for 200....I'm just about out!!

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Well you know I want them. If you don't get the 2000 I understand perfectly.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

;o)

Smack Badseed for me, then be sure to thank her - you're in!

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Oh I can do that, I will be seeing her in a week or so. lol

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh sure! I invite her to raid my gardens as part of a small payback for all she does for me, then you send her with a smack to deliver! LOL I don't think I am behind you in age or ahead of you in speed and if I am, I bet I make up for it in size! ROTFLOL

Hey, you could always take a small trip to Ohio, visit Peggy and me, smack me your own self and deliver the markers while you are here. ;) I haven't seen you in a few years.

Palmyra, IL(Zone 5b)

What kind of paint marker works best ,easiest to write with and least expensive. If there is such a thing. Thanks,Jody

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Snicker. Yeah, I know your schemes. You'll get me up there and have me lugging railroad ties or something, O Queen of Large Projects. By the time I did that, I'd be too tired to chase or bop ya.

(I would love to see you and your passel o'young'uns, though!)

JodyC, I'm heading to Hobby Lobby to see what I can see. Somebody mentioned they carry a permanent marker that is less prone to fading than Sharpies.

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

Terry, if it comes close to the 2,000 mark, but not quite, put me down for another 100.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Me?? Put people to work? Well, I never! Ummm, just don't ask Henry10 about that. LOL Have you seen the farm I am thinking of buying? I'm gonna need a lot of help moving plants and minding kids. :)

Hey, you might ask Peggy where she orders her markers. She uses the same ones I do and she actually ordered mine for me this year. They do start to come off after a couple of years if they are under dirt but the sun and water don't bother them. I was getting them at Franks until they went under. For normal use, you have to use nail polish remover to get it off if you make and oopsie.

Palmyra, IL(Zone 5b)

Good luck Terry,If you find one that works and doesn't bleach out from the sun,Please let me know the name of it.Jody

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Being the intelligent person I am, I got the website for the ones I like, right off the marker! LOL
