WillowWasp. I got the seeds from Swallowtail Garden last year. It was listed as Ipomoea nil "candystripe purple". I also have pink but didn't grow them yet . I will gladly send you some out tomorrow.

Wow Wow Wow. I am overwhelmed by all the beautiful MGs here. I'm new to gardening and never knew that MGs can have colors and patterns like that. I planted a few from seeds and they're climbing but not flowering yet. My mom keeps warning me about how fast they can grow and will over take everything. I'm not too worried. I just want to see some blooms!

I noticed that some of the posted blooms didn't have the "expected" colors. Was that because your seeds were mislabeled of was it because of the soil? (you know, sort of like hydrangeas)

Thanks again for sharing your beautiful MGs. Once I'm sucessful with my common MGs, I'll venture into the exotic world of Japanese MGs.

Hi Quyen ---
WARNING. . .
Growing Japanese Morning Glories is VERY addicting....
Can't you tell....LOL

First of all, only 'Certain' MG's will 'take over' . . . .
Seems that so many have this misconception about ALL of our Beautiful Morning Glories.
Not So!

The blooms in question that are not as 'expected',
is what we commonly refer to as 'CROSSES' ---
which means that the seeds from a particular variety
were pollinated from a 'different' variety
either by chance [insects], or on purpose.
Hybridizing is a fun thing to see what new varieties you can create.
And, the 'surprises' created by the insects are just as beautiful.

Hey, you are in CA with a long growing season ---
why wait to enjoy JMG's later when you can this year.
I promise you will not be sorry. . .
Go for it!

This is what was greeting me this morning. . .
Hot Pink Frost #020
Looks like my 'Real Plum Frost',
except in Hot Pink with same markings

Dee,
Been trying for 20-minutes to post another photo and my computer was going as fast as it could with its tongue hanging out, since I don't have high speed.
Do you think you need to start another Thread and I'll post it later.

Hi EmmaGrace,

Thank you for the explanation. I love your Rose Silk, by the way.

I may try a couple of new ones this year. Looked on eBay and saw a few that I really like. Will buy the seeds to plant and share. I have to grow them in containers, though. What's the smallest container size that I can get away with?
