New Morning Glory 2005

Willoughby, OH(Zone 5a)

Well,I really love Daves Garden..but to be honest,I feel like I've been just marking time for 7 months...waiting for the MORNING GLORIES!!!!! I pour over these new photos you have all posted and can't believe how far we've come from "heavenly Blue" and "Pearly Gates",(although I still love those two)
Most of mine have yet to bloom,so the excitement over seeing varieties I have for the first time is delicious! Esp. since so many are from seeds that you gave me.
To all that i traded my 'henka" to,I would love to see if they were true from seed. Mine are slow growing this year,so won't see blooms for a while.
Keep posting those photos,all!

Here I go drooling again, Dee. Boy those are beauties. Isn't Emma a real sweetie with a kind and very generous heart?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

There isn't one that I don't like but so far the Konoko has stolen my hart it is absolutely beautiful!!!!!!!!!

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

I am so sorry gail, here is the Henka you sent me..............It is very pretty and I am so glad to have it. I will try to use it in some crosses.......thanks so much for sending it to me....and I thought I had already posted a picture of it. I will get some better picutres of it tomorrow....

Ooo,Dee,you got the one with the more prominent star.I'm so glad you got blooms! I was so worried those seeds wouldn't germinate. I can't wait for your "Umi Sea'' you sent me to bloom. Here is my new arch my hubby rigged for MGs.

Willoughby, OH(Zone 5a)

Here's the arch at night, and no more pics till I have a gorgeous bloom to show off!

OMG, golgi . . .
Can I PAAALLLEEZZEEE have some of your Henka seeds.
I'll be your gardener for the week....LOL

Dee, can I have some of your Henka seeds from golgi too, PAAALLLEEZZEEE
They are both stunning!

Can't decide which is the most striking! Awesome!

golgi, LMK.

Willoughby, OH(Zone 5a)

EmmaGrace, sure you can! They aren't a huge flower, but were the most prolific bloomer I have EVER had,bar none. I will send you some regular Henka and the ones that had the star.
Gail

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks so much Gail,
I will look forward to growing these beauties.
Should even be able to get some started this year.
Heck, I'm filling up every corner on my lot this year.
Gonna REALLY give those bees something to buzz about...LOL

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

It just amazes me the different colors & shapes. Before DG I never even knew there were different colored MGs other than the purples & pinks you get in the seed pks at the grocery store! I am in awe of some of the colors. I did win some from MoonGlow in a contest & haven't gotten the chance to get them planted. I did get some scarlet ones going. The common ones haven't even popped out of the ground yet, it's been too cold. I love any kind of MGs, they are always so cheerful. Keep those pics comming! Bj

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi gail, yes I am thrilled with the "Henka - Blue Blizzard" I love it. There is one vine that is not as prominate a star but has more specking in the skirt of the flower. It is setting a ton of seed so I should have more than enough to share with folks.

Soon as I get some seed Emma you are welcomed to it.....
This is my first "Blue Silk" that was decent enough for a Photo............seed compliments of "Moonlighting"

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

And this is a cross I did last year. The vine is doing poorly and I don't know whats up with it. I have done everything I can think of to get it going and nothing helps.
So this is the first bloom and maybe the last............hope I get a seed or two to try again next year.
This is Heian No Beni X Chocolate Silk............it is more red than Chocolate but still has a nice Mauve Red tone to it. I think it is a nice cross.....

Golgi, your arch is going to be beautiful when fully covered with blooming morning glories.

Willoughby, OH(Zone 5a)

Dee and Emma, aren't you proud of your crosses?!! I am so impressed that you do that and the results are gorgeous.Dee,does Emma's Plum Frost look anything like Fujimusumi?

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Gail, I think the one you are referring to is the photo I have posted. This one is much darker than Emmas. Hers is a pale silky Lavender and very soft looking and dosn't have picotee edging. They are both beautiful in there own right, just that Emmas is such a soft color and is a good shade or two lighter than the center of this flower....It is an awsome flower and Emma is so lucky to have such a beauty...........

Since mine has not even been planted yet I used the photo off my seed package for reference. I hope this has helped.

this is "Fujimusumi"

OOps wrong Picutre................sorry...........
This is "Emmas Lavender Mist"..............
It actually does have a little more color than what is shown in this photo.
It is a very soft sutle Lavender tone, and some what shimmery.......

Ok, now I found it............it is paler than the Fujimusumi and I think it is prettier. But I am partial to pastel

Oh it is lovely! Looks HUGE!!

Well, so far looks like my incredible Plum Frost [named in Japanese: Ume Shimo - which means Plum Frost] is not going to grow back TRUE. I haven't given up YET, however, I planted 40 seeds and have hopes that at least ONE will grow True.
If not for me, maybe it will grow TRUE for someone else out there that I shared seeds with. The CROSSES that I posted on this Thread are ALL 'Crosses' from my Plum Frost seeds. Can't tell about the one Dee just posted that is also Lavender with a Picotee. Hers looks a little darker than the one I posted above that I've called Pale Lavender Silk.
My guess is that many of these crossed with one of my Rose Silks.
Well, at least the Crosses are awesome!
As I said I'm still in hopes that 'somewhere' out there the 'Real Plum Frost' will grow True. Either that or ALL of those early mornings that I got up at daybreak to self-pollinate the blooms and then 'close them off' was a total waste.
LORD, 'Daturapod' WHERE ARE YOU WHEN WE NEED YOU!
Help us out here.

Here is photo of my Ume Shimo Plum Frost from last year that I am STILL hoping for.

Thumbnail by EmmaGrace
Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Dee is this my Cross that you are referring to that is Pale Lavender with no picotee.....
'Lavender Mist'.
The other photo posted above that I've called Pale Lavender Silk is a 'new Cross' from my Plum Frost Seeds and does have a Picotee.
This is year #3 that 'Lavender Mist' has remained TRUE.

Dee, Your 'Plum Frost Pale Lavender Cross' is AWESOME. Can you tell from the photos if your bloom is darker than the blooms I got that is posted above as Pale Lavender Silk?
Also, the Bloom I got has a Slight Light Pink Halo at the Throat.

Your 'Fujishibori Mutation' is incredible. Hope you have the seed pod tagged so you can grow this one out separately. How Kewl if you could get these guys to grow back True like this.

Your 'Blue Silk' from Moonlighting is unbelievable.

....And your Cross Heian No Beni X Chocolate Silk............I just LOVE.
Oh I hope it makes it - so pretty!

OK, NOW I'M CONFUSED....again....LOL

What is the very pale bloom that looks either Pale Lavender or maybe White where you said
"OOps wrong Picutre................sorry..........."
Is this Fujimusumi....because the photo above it looks like it.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Emma, go back a look at it again.......I added what it was......sorry I left yall hangin....(What was I thinkin??)......It is your "Lavender Mist" In the photo it looks almost white and try as I might I just couldnt get the color to show....and no picotee......
It is a very soft and shimmery Lavender color..............Emma remember the photo I sent you and said I don't think this one is Lavender Mist???? Well this is what bloomed on the other vine..........
I pulled out the one that was a Mt Fuji type so I could get the Lavender by itself...........
Am I still confusing you?
These seed all came from you..............LOL.......these are not my crosses much as I would love to claim them, they are yours..........

Hey Dee,
Nope, got it now. Of course, I've been bouncing in and out of the computer room as I was looking at your photos...guess you corrected while I was writing...LOL
Your 'Lavender Mist' is awesome isn't it. Looks just like it too on some days.
Depends on how the light is hitting it.

Here is 'Lavender Mist' from 2004 that shows it to be lighter in this photo, making it look more like the coloring in your photo.....but they are ALL a Very Pale Lavender.

I love, love, love the Lavender Mist and Lavender Silk. They are gorgeous.

Willoughby, OH(Zone 5a)

Gail, Two words
Akathukinoumi
AMAZING!

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

How right you are Emma this is one beautiful flower. I will save you some seed if you would like. Oh so many pretty MG's out there this year. I think we have just scraped the tip of the ice burg. With all the pretty ones we have and some we haven't even see yet. Plus all the crosses that will come from so many of these beauties.
Here are the ones I have and so far they are blooming pretty good. I just love them myself.

Man, I love ALL the photos :)!

Wichita, KS

I am over here gasping at all the beauties that have been shown here.
Anyone starting a list for seed trades, yet?

Only a few of my morning glories are blooming.
I have Mt. Fuji - looks like purple, was supposed to be orange.

Willow wasp, do you grow all of yours in containers and why?? I have had terrible luck with the rabbits eating some of mine that moonlighting sent me, this is my first time to grow these and wondered if that is always a problem?

I am waiting on Shibouri, Shivra, Henka Asago, Rose Silk, Akatsuki No Umi, Sunrise Serenade,
Cameo Elegance.

My White Phoenix didn't make it. Used all my seeds, had 6 sprouts and then they went kerplunk!
I tried to get Blue Silk from Ebay, but none of the seeds germinated. Keeping a good eye out on the ones that I have. Hoping to see some blooms soon.

Thanks for sharing all of your pics. I get so excited when I see a new post has been added to this thread.

Happy Gardening,
Nut4Spuds

Willoughby, OH(Zone 5a)

Dee,on page one of this thread you posted a pic of Matsukaze,a deep deep blue. The plant files show it as heavily striated with white, kinda like flying saucers. Will it start putting out flowers with more striation as the plant matures?
And Moonlighting,on June 10,11:41 A.M. you posted a pic of an enormous unidentified red. I am DYING for the name!!
Emma,searched for Akathukinoumi,but I don't have any seeds left...sorry.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

You are absolutely right Gail and I have corrected the error. I have the seed packet from Japan and the lady wrote on it what it was. It is hard to read so I just guessed at some of the letters.
thanks for pointing it out..........
It is Akatsuki no Merasake and here it is again.... very beautiful and a very intense blue....

Willoughby, OH(Zone 5a)

Lordy,it IS stunning! Are they from the co-op?

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

golgi, I looked again and I do not have a name for it - sorry, it is from a mix. I will have to research it.

I am enjoying looking at all the pictures guys! Emma, you have some real beauties there :). I really like your "Lavender Mist"!

WW, I am dying over all of your blooms!

Here is an unknown blue from a mix....

Here is an Ebay purchase...supposed to be Akathukinoumi, but as you can see it is far from it :(. I am not too disappointed tho, it is pretty in its own way :)

Oh my gosh, you guys have some awesome MG's. I love them all. Is it too late to plant them? I have about three and a half months or more left of my summer season. I have lots of seed, but due to the bad weather this year and all the cold we have had, I didn't get them planted. If I soaked them over night, would that give them a good enough start to go ahead and try? I have a couple of place that I could put some that could use some color, even if it is green, I guess. Again, great glories. Wonderful photography too.

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, Dee, YES! Would love to have seeds of your Akathukinoumi.
I had three seeds only, and couldn't get them to germinate:-(

nuts4spuds looking forward to your photos.

moonlighting, WOW, your MIX is awesome. Did you get your MIX on eBay???

Thanks all for the compliments on my Lavender Mist.
I'm just proud that I'm getting a 'few' to remain True.
It is a definite 'Keeper'.

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

What a NICE ONE, Pam.
Keep an eye on it!
Might have a new Cross there.

Here is my Newest Cross from Yesterday.
This one is from a 'Cross' that I had from last year that didn't grow back True.
BUT, I'm sure not disappointed.
So, anyone that got my Solid Rose-Red Picotee Seeds [Didn't have many]
just might get this Awesome one.
It is such a vibrant Red-Rose Color that just shimmers in the sunlight.
Love It!

Waaaah, I want Akathukinoumi like Gail and WW have!

Emma, that pink one is stunning! The mix I have is an old Burpee one that WW gave me last year....

Shirley, you could try to do some of your seeds and see what happens :).....I think the cold will set in before you get any seed tho.

Nut4spuds, good luck with all your vines. I don't have a trade list yet....
