jnana, if you can give me the list of genera I can set them up in a jiffy.
I am truly sorry it's tedious and frustrating - but it has dramatically cut down on the "mop-up" time we were spending when new entries didn't go through any sort of systemic error check. At some point (in the near future) *most* genera should be present on the comparative list, so this will become even less of an issue. (And your efforts to bring some new entries to PF will definitely help that happen sooner, if you can bear with us as a "trail blazer" ;o)
Can't add a new Genus
These generic names have been added to the comparative list. You *should* be able to begin adding species within these genera immediately; let me know if you encounter any problems.
You're welcome, jnana.
For the benefit of all reading this, please know that the "comparative" list has been completely updated today. It encompasses all generic and family names already in PlantFiles. I realize there are still several families and genera that have not been added to PlantFiles yet, but hopefully the ~350 families and 3500+ genus names will let most new entries submit without any problems or delays.
I'll keep this thread on my watched thread list, and try to respond as rapidly as possible to any other new names that need to be added.
Terry,
Here is another list of genera I will be adding soon that are not yet in your list;
Family: Araliaceae
Genera: Astrotricha
Mackinlaya
Neopanax
Family : Asteraceae
Genera: Abrotanella
Actinobole
Family: Violaceae
Genus: Hymenanthera
Could you add these to the list please,
Ken
The following genera:
Astrotricha
Mackinlaya
Neopanax
Abrotanella
Actinobole
Hymenanthera
have all been added ;o)
Done ;o)
Terry,
Here is another list of new genera to add to the PlantFiles:
Family Asteraceae
Actites
Angianthus
Argentipallium
Atractylodes
Family Urticaceae
Australina
Elastostema
Family Elatinaceae
Elatine
I shall add species of each of these genera, over the next montyh or so.
Could you please add them to the approved list. I think the family Elatinaceae is a new family for PlantFiles,
Ken
I would like to add
Family: Curcubitaceae
Genus: Corallocarpus
Terry,
One more genus to add please.
This one is the genus Anisopterus, which has variously been assigned to Escalloniaceae, Grossulariaceae and Saxifragaceae. As far as I can tell the current ruling is that it belongs in the Grossulariaceae
Ken
Ken I can only find reference to a genus called Anisoptera which is (apparently) currently in the Dipterocarpaceae.
The following genera have been added:
Actites
Angianthus
Argentipallium
Atractylodes
Australina
Elatostema (but not Elastostema)
Elatine
Corallocarpus
I'll hold off on Anisopterus until we sort it out.
Sorry Terry, I did mean Elatostema, it was a typing error on my part.
Baa and Terry, I have also mispelled the genus that you cannot find. I asked for the genus Anisopterus, but it should have been Anopterus. Anopterus has just two species Anopterus glandulosus is the Tasmanian Mountain Laurel, endemic to Tasmania, but I have a very young shrub in my garden here in Victoria, which is flowering right now, although under 1 foot tall. The other species is Anopterus macleayanus Macleay Laurel found only in northern New South Wales and Queensland. The Tasmanian and the New South Wales Floras, both place the genus in Escalloniaceae, but the more recent Flora of Australia has it in the Grossulariaceae, while mentioning that some authorities place it in Saxifragaceae.
Sorry for the two mispellings. I am usually very careful, checking all names on the net before entering
them. I did that this time but stilll managed to type them both wrongly in my note to you. It shows you are right to have this checlk on new genera being added to the PlantFiles.
Ken
Thanks, Ken. We do appreciate everyone's patience with this new process, and the care demonstrated when you're researching the names. The upfront checking gives us a much-needed opportunity to review these lesser-known genera. (I'm not at all confident I would have spotted either of these errors once the entries were submitted ;o)
You weren't thinking of Dragonflies were you Ken? :) RHS and IPNI have Anopterus as Escalloniaceae at present if that's any help?
Will you add Anopterus as an allowed genus then, as Escalloniaceae and I will later create an entry for Anopterus glandulosus and add my pictures of it.
Ken I apologize for the oversight - Anopterus has been added as well.
Please add to the list:
Family: Fabaceae
Genus: Geoffroea
Done ;o)
BTW, I don't need the family for a new genus, unless the family needs to be added, too. (PlantFiles doesn't "test" the genus against the family.)
Just had another error alert:
"The family was misspelled. Did you mean....Fagaceae or Sabiaceae?"
I entered in "Fabaceae".
Is this correct?
added:
I think I just answered my own question, perhaps it should be "Mimosaceae" as the Family
Thanks

Terry, I thought it best to include the family name to help you to verify that the genus is a real one before adding it to the approved list!
Ken
Ken, yes the family can help us validate the name in cases of particularly obscure genera. (I just didn't want the process to be more onerous than it already is, so I mentioned it isn't absolutely necessary to list family, too. ;o)
It's frustrating. I appreciate trying to correct at species and genus levels but..........
Terry, please add Orchidaceae-Dracula for me because I'm going to be adding a slew of Dracula species.
I tried to trick it (I was successful at this one instance) but to add a whole slew of Dracula orchids is something else).
-Ron-
It's been added.
Terry,
Here is another list of genera form Australia to add to the accepted list:
Family: Cyperaceae
Gymnoschoenus
Family: Restionaceae
Lepyrodia
Family: Xanthorrhoeaceae
Calectasia
Family: Asteraceae
Millotia
Rutidosis
Family: Epacridaceae
Styphelia
thanks,
Ken
These have all been added.
Terry - glad to see from this I am not the only one having problems getting plants into the data base. I still have about 6 that I have sent over in the error notes that will need added so some of the last ones can get in there.
Terry,
Here are a few more genera to add to the list please:
Family Asteraceae
Calotis
Camelina
Family Convolvulaceae
Wilsonia
Family Menyanthaceae
Villarsia
thanks,
Ken
They've all been added!
Terry, another genus to add please. Lunch time today I went to pick up our empty dustbin from the gate and spotted a little patch of minute yellow flowers growing on the roadside verge.
I identified them as Cicendia quadrangularis in the Gentianaceae. They are minute, just 4.5 cm high with a little yellow flower on top.
I took some photos and will add them to the Plantfiles when you have added the genus,
Thanks again
Ken
Cicendia has been added ;o)
Would it be possible to add two more genera to the database?
Monnina (family Polygonaceae)
Diplolaena (family Rutaceae)
Thank you!
I've added Diplolaena and Monnina you should be able to create the entries now. Monnina is in Polygalaceae but I'm sure it was just a typo :)
Thanks Baa! When I googled the plant to find the family, the first website on the list has it as Polygonaceae which is why I put that in, but when I look further down the list all the others list it as Polygalaceae--sorry about the confusion!
No worries, the two family names are so similar it's very easy to misread them, I had to check back several times to makes sure!
Sorry to bother you again--I was able to add Monnina with no problem, but when I try to add Diplolaena it doesn't recognize the genus. Thanks!
I think I made a mistake with Diplolaena this morning, my apologies for that. I've just added it again and tested it. It went through for me so please let us know if you have any trouble adding it.
