Round Robin with a Twist Part 3

Cassopolis, MI(Zone 5a)

A new thread for the Twisted Robin and Reverse Robins to fly from!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks Alice! This will make it so much easier to follow!

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

I think spring has finally gotten a little closer. It has been warm enough lately to get some of my winter sown things in the ground where I want them to thrive. You can only keep a plant somewhat happy in a container when it is sown there My violas have taken leaps since it got warm for the last few days.
I even got some liatris to sprout for me, something I can't get to do with just sowing in situ.

Reverse Robin was sent to Plantnutz on March 24 via priority # 0304 1560 0006 0720 1623

It shows it was delivered on Sat. Maybe she's out of town.

Monticello 4, IA(Zone 4a)

Thank you Gourd - will update to show that :) It's as fun for me to watch it's path to all of you as it is for me to receive it :). If I really satified my engineering side, I would put up the mileage lol.

oh i hope it gets to oklahoma for me before may or end may.. so much fun have some interesting seeds i hope to.. have a nice week all..

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Steve was headed to the post office with The Box this morning! He put in a few extra goodies for me from our latest trade, so the routing worked out especially well for us. I have several seed packs ready to put into it when it gets here, and I'm looking forward to being overwhelmed with seed choices! :-)

Boulder Creek, CA(Zone 9a)

'Tis on its way! New box. The old one was looking ratty. The boxes are free from the P.O. I also added some styrofoam peanuts so the seed packets would not rattle around. They did not fill the box. Jill, open carefully!

Here you go with new update so far. I almost added the reverse round robin but thought I would only add the point on the map if we heard from the person receiving it. I'm less confused that way :)..

Oops, I guess I had added that Jill had received the box -
Everyone blow hard so the winds will get that box to Jill soon I don't have to repost the map :)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I haven't received it yet! :-)

Just didn't want people to think I'd hung onto it too long if I didn't send it on its way again before Monday. I'm guessing it will arrive Friday, possibly Thursday, but packages seem to take a day longer since we're no longer on a regular mail route (different carriers tack us onto their route, but we don't have a regular carrier anymore, so nobody really looks out for our mail).

Monticello 4, IA(Zone 4a)

I just had to do it - so far the original box has traveled 5600.35 miles - whew! :)

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

wheres the reverse one at???

Monticello 4, IA(Zone 4a)

There was postal confirmation that it was received at plantnutz in Georgia I beleive but I haven't seen an email from them saying they had received it so I didn't put the arrow there. Gourd posted the confirmation number on the 28th.

In order to help out those with dial up (like me at home :), I have moved the map to my private picturetrail site in order to leave this space for your more important postings. You are more than welcome to look in the open albums and drool over my "Wish" garden - the ones I WILL have one day :).

That round robin flew right over my head when it went from IL to TX, didn't even honk and wave, how rude! LOL

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

Maybe it did, and you just didn't hear it..it was going pretty fast, and it flies high!

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

Hi all,

I did receive the box Saturday but did not know it until Monday. Been a crazy week though and will try my best to get it mailed by Friday.

Well, the RR is on the longest "leg" of its journey now. Sea to shining sea, so to speak.

I should have included a famous banana slug for crit, UCSC's mascot even! Great University in a redwood forest setting.

The Box is here !!!!! I can't believe it made it across the country so quickly -- in just 2 days!

I'm glad Steve didn't add any banana slugs.... :-)

He thoroughly decorated the top of the box, however, so I had to post a picture.... way cool!

Thanks, Steve!

I opened the box and discovered Steve had not only added packing peanuts, he'd also added a double handful of purple tinsel and a layer of Christmas paper.... very festive!!

Postage from CA was $10.80, and The Box is maybe a little more than half full (still plenty of packets, though, not to worry!). I may try to fit it into a flat rate box when I send it on.... if it fits, it fits, and if not that's fine too! I'll see if DH can pick one up for me tomorrow.

Here's a look inside:

WOW that looks great WHISTLE, WHISTLE, JUST CALLING IT TO ME LOL

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Critter - Just a thought. Perhaps you could cram whatever will fit into a flat rate and if there's a few extras, scoot them on over to the next stop of the Reverse RR???

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I don't know if there will be leftovers, as I'm a pretty good packer, but that makes sense to me. I could sort out some of the duplicate packs and send them to join the Reverse Robin.

Alice, does that sound all right?

Boulder Creek, CA(Zone 9a)

Nice picture of our (DW helped) decorative efforts, but you missed my fav critter, or should I say CRITTER!!! Better post one more shot from the remaining angle!

S (artistes are SO sensitive)

Shepherd, TX(Zone 8b)

Only five more to go before me! Where the heck am I going to put anything else?? Don't worry, I'll find a place for the seeds, along with the $30 worth of other plants I bought today...

BTW, S, I love the bunnies whispering to each other...that's too cute! I can't read what the giraffe is saying, though.

Boulder Creek, CA(Zone 9a)

Quoting:
I can't read what the giraffe is saying, though.

He's saying, "Isn't dat Jill?"

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

Steve,
You outdid yourself decorating the box! I would have hated to destroy such beauty, by opening the box! Man!
The Dogwood that you sent me, is looking good...

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

that box is great, I didn't know the Post Office would allow all that stuff on a box

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I think the days of wrapping parcels in brown paper is long gone. UPS doesn't care at all what a box looks like, as long as it's structurally sound (always good to tape seams), and I'm pretty sure USPS is the same way. USPS still wants address labels on the box, but UPS just uses bar code stickers.... I guess the mechanical readers aren't confused by stickers, etc.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

I didn't use USPS labels on my boxes, just wrote right on the box, and they are 1/2 the cost of UPS

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

My post office doesn't care if you use labels, either, as long as they are legible, they can fly!

Shepherd, TX(Zone 8b)

I haven't had an issue with lables or art either. Just as long as the box is secured well with tape and the address is legible, they don't really care. They do, however, have rules that govern whatever box you happen to use can say on it--no chemical names, etc. I tried shipping a box out that had once held a polyurithane (sp?) sprayer, and they threw fits over it. I had to cover the name before they'd let me mail it.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

I had the same problem when I tried to use a wine box! Cracked me up!!!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I think I've found that small boxes are cheaper to send USPS, and large boxes are cheaper with UPS. And what I meant by no labels with UPS is that they don't want you to write the address on the box, on a label, etc.... they just want you to enter it in the computer, which prints out a little barcoded sticker for your box.

To get back on topic, I'd like to report that there are well over 300 packets in The Box, and I'm adding a couple dozen more. Mostly, I've taken out partial packs or duplicate packs for my picks, so I think I've managed to increase the variety of the selection. :-)

I'll try to get it out Saturday, but Monday is probably more likely. I should be able to mail it from the substation, though, which will cut down its commute time. I dechaffed a couple of bags of seed to make more room, and I sorted some seeds together into larger baggies.... there were lots of packs of strawflowers, for example, so now they're together, and the same goes for morning glories & marigolds. Since I was sorting into piles anyway, it made sense to keep them a ordered a little. Hopefully that won't detract from the treasure-hunt aspect of diving into The Box, tazzy!

I also put tape labels on plastic envelopes with Sharpie labels, lest they become illegible on my watch! :-)

(edited to make it clear I was only removing seeds that I wanted to plant in my garden)

I think duplicates and partial packets should all be left in the box, afterall, there are a lot more people who need to go through the box, so let's not limit the amount just to save postage. The people in the round robin have all agreed to belonging to it knowing the cost of postage.
I wouldn't mind paying more and getting to look at everything that was offered.
