I must say I am fairly new on Dave's Garden but am excited to be a subscriber. Deann from AuGres was kind enough to write me an email to welcoming me and inviting me to the Michigan Forum. So I am certain you will hear from me time to time. This is fun and very interesting. Wonderful to have such knowledgable, friendly garders from Michigan. just Fancee

Fancee welcome to the site and to our lil michigan corner!!!

Grand Blanc, MI

Hello everyone! I'm still somewhat 'new' to Michigan. I'm a native Nebraskan, spent two years in Minnesota before moving here to Grand Blanc (south of Flint) to marry my native Michigander (NON-gardener) husband. :-) I've been here 4 years now and am enjoying the 'somewhat' milder winters than what I grew up with.

I am a rural country girl at heart, grew up on a dairy farm. I now live in a new suburb with neighbors way too close! :-) I work in Lapeer as a music teacher. I love gardening, music, and kids.

Am excited upon finding this site last month and spend as much time exploring as I can. Happy gardening everyone!

Good Morning Lori and Welcome to the Michigan Forum....I am a transplanted New Yorker, and my husband is a Michigander and a non gardener....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....but that's ok....he does do the important stuff....like when I need some good black dirt, he will haul it over to where I want it, and do some lifting.....

Keep checking the Michigan Forum and all the other threads that are going on. I know we have some Plant swaps coming up.......Look forward to maybe meeting you then...

Happy Gardening

Thanks everyone for the great welcome, what a great group. Welcome Lori and Annabelle also. I orginally posted on Dave's garden about the broken limb on my new pink crabapple tree. Would you believe my son took an Ace bandage, cut it to size and wrapped the branch, it has since grown new leaves and bloomed on that branch, is that too funny. I will have to take a photo and post it. My crabapple's owie is getting better!! :-) Sure is nice to have some decent weather, I have a couple of hundred perennials to get into my gardens and also about 50 annuals, busy busy!! Have a super gardening day.

Macomb, MI(Zone 5b)

Hi all!

I'm new to the forum, and to Michigan! I actually did spend the first 11 years of my life in Warren, MI... but then moved to NJ for the rest until last year, when I decided it was time to move back to be near family. I live in Macomb, MI, about 20 miles N of Detroit, and about 3 miles from Selfridge Airforce Base.

The house we bought was only 2 years old, so the landscape is sparse/new. I put in a 24'x16' veggie garden as a project this spring, and everything is growing... albeit slowly with the cold weather we've had thusfar. Today has proven to be a VERY nice day, and I'm excited to see the impact it has on the garden.

Since today was so lovely, I also decided to put in 4 stella d'oro daylilies, and 4 hostas in the front flower bed in front of my house that was pretty lonely for landscaping. There were also some hostas that needed dividing (already?? it's only been 2 years... though, it's my first experience with hostas, I never cared for them up until now, and now I'm liking them more and more daily!) so I divided and moved them around to another bed.

Nice to meet all of you!!

Karen T.
yes... mom to 5 year old triplet boys :) :) :)

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

Welcome Karen to the Michigan forum! You will find this to be a friendly bunch of nice folks. I'm in Garden City in Wayne County but have a second home in Au Gres in Aranac county. We're moving there in three more years. Good luck and happy gardening.

Karen

Welcome, I'm from Allen Park about a 1/2 hours south of you.
My folks used to have a farm in Mt Clemens, 21 Mile and Fairchild not too far from you.

Paul

Macomb, MI(Zone 5b)

Thanks for the welcomes, Brenda and Paul! 21/Fairchild is very close to where I am! Unfortunately, most of the farms out this way are gone, and a gazillion subdivisions took their place. I shouldn't really complain, considering I am *in* one of the subs. I would really prefer to live in a more rural setting, but with the boys and the hubby, we needed something more suitable for them (hubby grew up near Toronto... I'm slowly phasing him in to "country" living :)

Hope to talk to you all more!!

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Just dropped in here out of curiousity to see if there were any "yoopers" in this forum! And found some!! I'm in Wisconsin but spent some growing up years in the UP, Ironwood, and Ramsay but have been in southeast Wisconsin since leaving high school. Gotta give the UP gardeners credit, it's tough up there with those snowy winters. Although, we could have used a little more of the white stuff the last several winters, my perennials suffered from not having that nice thick snow blanket to keep their roots protected. My nephew and his wife just bought my sister's property up on Lake Gogebic, in anticipation of his retirement. They've never lived in snow country....wont they have an an education coming!!!!

Au Gres, MI(Zone 5a)

meezersfice.......Hello and welcome to the Michigan site, I believe we have a few yoopers among us trolls here....I think maureen is from Hancock.....I think that was the winter we all lost alot of stuff. No snow, but very very cold and then the horrible flooding at the end of winter and early spring....Your welcome to come on over and visit us and chat, our hardy zones are probably the same....

Deann

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Thanks, yes zone 5a, but spring is finally here!! And about time too!!!

Utica, MI(Zone 6b)

My name is Abbie and I am from Shelby Twp. ( Auburn and Dequindre for those who might know the area) I see tripletmomma you are somewhat near me. I am a pet groomer and only groom as pretty much a hobby for friends and family. I am also a native michigander, I moved to california for a short 8 months and of course couldnt stay away for long. My family is all here. My family is one of many avid gardeners and being the youngest I still have a lot to learn! I also have a home in Arenac county, Loon, small world mines in Alger on maple ridge road. Its about 3 miles off exit 202, (I-75). Its also an old farmhouse that was vacant for 9 years before my husband, daughter, myself and pets moved into it. It was quite a mess really not livable but being the determined 23 year olds we were......well im sure you get the picture...we wanted to prove ourselves! Anyway it is still a work in progress my hubby is in the family buisiness so, we moved down when we were needed by the family.....what else could we do right? What are families for? I love to garden when I can find the time.. I have 2 kids, a girl who is 7 and a boy who is 15 months. that keeps me busy enough. the weeds usually take over before i find the time and energy to get out there, then it takes sooo long... I will show you a quick pic of my favorite garden at home, It may require more than one pic... I'll try to keep it short. you all seem real hospitable to new folks...... thanks for that and keep it up!!!

Hi Abbie......Welcome to the Michigan Forum and to Dave's.......I too live in Arenac.....just down the road a piece from you......if you cross 65 from Maple Ridge Road, that now becomes Turner Road, and I live down that road about 8 1/2 miles.....Actually more to AuGres....I am in Whitney Twp. I am probably only 3 miles from Lake Huron.....

When your "up north" the next time, stop on by and see me. I would be happy to give you some babies.
