COLEUS FORUM.....SIGN UP HERE DAVE'S WATCHING

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

WAIT, WAit, I want to vote too......just found this! I would love to have a Coleus Forum. I lost 37 different varieties in the storms last summer and am just now getting started back with a few.

It seems like there is enough interest to warrant a coleus forum.
Thinking about Daves statement that they be inculded in the foilage forum, then why is there a separate forum for Hostas?

Why not give it a try? If it doesn't generate enough traffic it can be pulled as have many other underused forums.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Nancy Lee...I haven't taken a real serious part in this discussion so far. And there's a good reason for that. I've been in precisely this same situation, asking that a new forum (or sub-forum in that case) be considered. And my reason for asking for that sub-forum was *exactly* the same as yours for the Coleus forum...confusion over where people could post comfortably. I believe it took me nearly 3 months to try to clarify and re-explain why I felt the sub-forum was justified. That was back before I got into gardening and had a lot more time to spend on the internet. :-)

On that other site, we had just as many people interested in the subject/topic as we have here interested in the Coleus...we finally got our forum. But there were a lot of hard feelings left over as a result of that debate. And because I was the one who had initially made the point that the forum was needed, they gave me the crown of "queen" (leader/motivation specialist/referee/teacher) which led to even more unrest among the natives but more importantly with the newbies with a power hungry attitude. I'm not longer active on that site.

As I've watched this suggestion for a new Coleus forum take shape and begin to face the identical (and inevitable) pitfalls that I faced for my idea of photo manipulation. It didn't fit in regular photography and the Digitial Art purists snubbed their noses at anything based on photos.

And now my thoughts on the coleus forum...

Of course, Coleus *do fit* into several of the other catagories here on DG...that's pretty obvious when a person begins to notice then study the plant. However, I would never have looked for Coleus in the Foliage Plants forum. And if I had, unless there was some kind of 'code word' in the subline of the post, I would never have found anything anyway.

What I'm really try to get said right now is that I can see both sides of the forum request issue. I know that Dave doesn't want to clobber up the site with so many forum a new person doesn't know where to start...nor would he want to add new forums for every whim that all we members can come up. On our side of the question, well...I wish there had already been a coleus forum when I first joined...there wouldn't have been 4 very long "Addicts" threads...and I *know* I would have posted a lot more if I could have felt comfortable opening a new thread instead of adding to the download time of the existing one.

That's where I stand. Sorry if I've added more confusion to the issue, and I apologize if it seemed I really wasn't interested in the discussion. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

For the record...My Vote is YES! for the forum. :-)

I'd sure visit a Coleus specific forum. Just to be a bit contrary - we did discuss coleus year round in the Coleus Addicts threads that Julie mentioned and I'm in cold Kansas City and have a 3-foot coleus growing in a pot in my home. Coleus aren't just for summer and warmer climes anymore.
