CLOSED: CLOSED: Round Robin with a Twist Part II

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

mkeilers,
Thanks for the marvelous work you are doing. The box is packed back up and ready to go. I'll mail it tomorrow morning. No beans included. I had a great time sorting through the seed packets. Hope everyone else does too. I'll send the confirmation number tomorrow.

I BETTER REST UP GOOD THE NEXT FEW DAYS....

Gotta be in shape for The Box!!!

Steve

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

That being the case, what are you doing up so late??? LOL!

Boulder Creek, CA(Zone 9a)

10:11 PM PST is not late. We use CA time here! LOL. But I might have strep too. Yuck. Off to doctor. Bother. I have gardening to do. But this doctor is a serious gardener. Her nurse has to call and remind her that patients are waiting and we better finish up! We tend to talk plants a lot. I like her.

ON A SCHOOL NIGHT!!!

Boulder Creek, CA(Zone 9a)

But I'm not working now. Recovering from surgery. Plants help.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh, all right - but you're supposed to be resting or you'll get sick...

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Skrause, the Box is on its way and should arrive on Wednesday. The confirmation number is: 0303 2460 0002 1944 9849. The cost of shipping was $9.90, but has a long way to go. Either that or it's getting heavier. I can justify the price of shipping by comparing it to the price of a movie and it's more entertaining. Thanks aknapp for starting this round robin. Steve, have fun with the box.

Betty - you definitely know the art of justification! I can hardly wait 'til that Robin heads my way!!!

Boulder Creek, CA(Zone 9a)

Cassopolis, MI(Zone 5a)

Kooger
I put a special little envelope in the box for you, and put your name on it, we will see if it gets to you?

Its something you have been wanting and I only had a very few of them!!! I am hoping that this will encourage you to start rooting Martha Washington, and then when I see you in Iowa I have to figure out how to do this for myself!!! I promise I will try not to make it an annual event for you!!!

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

oh goody, goody!! (rubbing hands together with glee!!)

Mesilla Park, NM

Oh man, I am ready.. Thanks for doing this swap for everyone.. I haven't enjoyed myself this much in a long time. Antoinette

Boulder Creek, CA(Zone 9a)

Now even DW is asking, "Where's THE BOX coming from? When will it get here?" LOL We are infecting the world one non-gardener at a time! Well, DW gardens, a little, knows a lot about it. She has specialized areas: lettuce in containers, Japanese maples from our own Mama-san tree, telling me what's just starting to bloom. Cheerleading! Likes to order stuff online. Very happy with the clerodendrum Ugandense plant I got for her.

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

So far, I have only told one person about 'The Box' we were talking about the round robin, and the reverse robin, and agreeing with, whoever said that if they both, arrived on the same day, it would cause your head to explode! Not a pleasant thing to think about....

Mount Prospect, IL(Zone 5a)

Two in one day is pure bliss!

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

shoot it will be a long time before i see the box. and if i am right i still have a few people to go before i see the backwards one too.

so i am not really getting excited over it. if it comes it comes when it gets here. then i will be excited about it. hehe

I was wondering if someone could explain to me exactly what and how Round Robin works...email me...or even better...point me in the direction where I can learn about it. It really sounds fun.

Thanks,

are we allowed to take whole packs?? or is it just a few seeds of what we need??

the reverse one will be my way soon and trying to figure this all out as this is my first round robin ones.

i tried to find the answer on the robin forum but so much to look through.

Mesilla Park, NM

Way to go...

I was in such a hurry to get through, I forgot to post a photo of Reverse Robin. Here it is when I received it. That's the only photo I took.

I seem to recall we can take what we want. Think I'll mostly take some, and repack into baggies to save time, leaving original envelopes when possible.

I have discovered this year that it makes a lot more sense to only plant 6 or 7 seeds of a kind than to plant a package and have been pleased with the results from this.

~* Robin

Mesilla Park, NM

I took some packs, and took some seeds out of some packs because they had alot. Some had only two seeds in one and a couple more in another (I took the whole pack in that case). But, You will see that alot of the packs have alot of seeds, you will know which ones to take only a few, you will know what to do when you see them. I added more than I took, so as long as you feel you did the right thing, it should be alright.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

I plan to only take of couple of the seeds I want so there's can have the same seeds, don't think you need to plant a whole pack, unless there are only a few in there.

Dopris

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

okay i dont want to get in trouble by taking too many or anything like that. i plan to add some but i wanted to make sure of things.

i am trying to get this one learned before i venture in to any more round robins. hehe

i wasnt trying to make anyone mad or anything i jsut dont want to mess up is all. i am more scared of the boxes then anything. this is a complete first for me so dont want to do it wrong.

you know its hard to type with a cat who is shedding in your lap. hehe

Boulder Creek, CA(Zone 9a)

RELAX, everyone!

Do what feels right! Be decent. Nobody is glowering and watching; trying to catch you doing evil!

Messing up is a very highly remote possibility. The "rules", such as they are for this RR, seem reasonable in the extreme!

I just did a preliminary sort. Easy. Now I'll devote more time and energy to final picks, then packaging. Maybe DW will assist me so this goes out bright and early Monday!

I am putting into a new box, the exact same kind from the PO. The old one is getting wobbly.

I just tossed all the mystery seeds that were "floating around" at the bottom of the box in the garden. Who knows what we might get.

Also: a suggestion: writing on plastic bags with sharpie pens is not a good idea. There must be 20 things in there with undecipherable markings. The ink rubs off easily!!! Maybe put the seeds inside the snap shut baggie and include a piece of PAPER with the contents written on it.

OK

Either a nap or a second sort.

Steve (wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

imzadi - You are not required to put in any seeds if you don't have them. Alice very generously set these up to GIVE AWAY her seeds. If you have some, great, if not - take and enjoy! I'm taking the liberty of pasting in Alice's original mote:

"Hi
I have approximately 500 packages of seeds that I have no place to put, and the idea of making a list is more than I can deal with at this time, so I decided to make a game of sorts out it.

I only have a couple of requests as far as rules are concerned!

If you wish to participate then you must be willing to pay the postage to send the seeds on to the next person lsited after you.

Sign up ends now and my granddaughter will draw names out of a hat to see who gets the package first!

A lot of the packages of seeds can be split up, take out what you want and leave the rest for the next person.

The last person to receive the package is responsible for figuring out what to do with the leftovers! You must promise not to send them back to me!

It is not necessary to replace any of the seeds that you take out. Just plant them and enjoy!

I sincerely hope that someone will do a thread for all of the flowers that bloom from this offer, it would certainly be fun for me to watch it."

Mesilla Park, NM

Oh yeah, you don't have to put any thing in. I did because it was the reverse robin and wanted to add more. I forgot about that.

Like Steve says, Relax and have fun: This is the post I sent to Alice. If you all want a list of what I got, just let me know, I will be happy to share the seeds with whomever wants them.

Hi Alice,
Boy what a nice selection, I am so excited about the seeds here. This is what I am adding:

Four Sandwich Baggies containing:
Mixed Canna Seed
Blue Hubbard Squash
Hardy Red Geranium Seeds
Desert Willow
THE REST are individual packs
Rudbeckia Hirta (3)
White Yarrow (1)
Fennel (1)
Small Sunflowers (2)
Thrift (1)
Sunflower Lemon Chiffon (1)
Sunflower Yellow Disk (1)
Mixed Lotus seeds (6)
Varigated leaf Nasturtium (4)
Blue Wisteria (5)
Bells of Ireland (1)
Feverfew (1)
Psidium littoralle yellow strawberry buava (1)
Zinnia Giants of CA (1)
Zinnia Lilliput (2)
Butterfly Blue Scabiosa (2)
Sweet William Cream and Wine (1)
Russian Sage (1)
Money Plant (1)
Sea Holly (1)
Cedar Elm seeds (1)
Prunella vulgaris (1)
Daisy Shasta (1)
Crackerjack Marigold (1)
Prarie Puff Ros desmanthus (1)
Heliopsis Helianthoides (1)
Nicotiana sylvestris (1)
Lezpedeza Thumbergii (1)
Sunflower Royal Flush (1)

Out of these, the three Alice picked that are not in the box are Lezpedeza Thumbergii, Russian Sage, and Bells of Ireland.

The only one that was a duplicate of what was in the box was a rudbeckia pack. So, I feel I added a different variety.

Hope you all enjoy..

RR Box question:

Someone put in a few "grey pasta beans"... nothing on Google about these. What are they? Anyone know?

Steve

Cassopolis, MI(Zone 5a)

Steve I know that there were some grey castor bean seeds in the stuff that I put in, could that be them???

I am trying to remember what kind of a package they were in, but not doing well remembering.

Thanks all for the quoting the original notes, that is still the way I feel about it.

I started this just as a fun thing to do, I am pleased that so many people wanted to participate and add things in to the box, but it is not a requirement since this is not a normal round robin.

I was so pleased when Gourd gave me a chance to share in what she was putting into the box, that was very generous of her, she didn't mention that she had make her poor husband reopen the package and find the 3 I wanted and then reseal and send it on its way! He must be one very understanding husband!

In one of my post I did mention that if you were going to add things into the box that I would love to know what you were adding just in case it was one of the few things I am still looking for.

I am as addicted to seeds as everyone else, there just comes a time when its time to clear out those drawers and share with other people rather than letting them sit here and get older when I have no idea where I am going to put them. Which is not where I wanted my seeds to end up. If that was what I wanted I could have just as well kept them here.

Wasn't sure weather I could edit all of those extra lines out or not but it did work! YEA!
