Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

I wasn't looking for anyone to grow the seeds..I think they are fine and I am going to try some in the fall..(maybe) I was just pointing out, that she would have fit right in, here...like I do! We all all nuts!
I will be happy if the seeds get to me in four months...ecsatic, if they get to me, before that.

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

I've been trying to find a comprehensive list of seed viability, but there are so many factors that determine seed viability. The upshot of it all is that I was able to find one on vegetables only. Onions were on the short lived list. You could try the wet paper towel test on a few seed to see if they germinate.

Hey, I'll be happy if they get to me - PERIOD! LOL! I'm a seed junkie and PROUD OF IT!!!

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

we need a seeds annoymous. i am addicted to seeds and i know it. i keep telling my Dh that at least its not something harmful. when i gave up cigs i started collecting seeds. one habit for another. LOL

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

I know what you mean about the seed addiction. I find myself still buying packets of seeds when I go to the store. I figure if I just get one plant from a teason of seed I am making a profit. I have winter sown some things in pots on the front porch and am very pleased with the results. Our springs tend to get too hot or dry sometimes and I need a little jump on their germinating properly. I am especially gals to have some hollyhock rugosa seeds now growing into little plants. I love the look of them on the different seed sites and hope they do well once in the ground. I am going to just cut the bottom out of the pots so they do not suffer transplant shock.

WooHoo
Seed box just arrived :-)
I want to post a pic. How do I do that?

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

nuts - do you still need seeds for your reverse twist? Will it be too late if I mail them out tomorrow?

Wichita, KS

That will be fine Sequee. They should get here by my original date to mail on Monday. rh3708 is sending some also. We have 50 packets together so far to go out.
Let me know if you want to see the combined list.

If I mail them from NY on Friday, there's no way you will have them KS by Monday. Possible Wednesday?

Wichita, KS

I wanted to get them out on Monday. Tell you what, why don't you mail them to Alice, if she doesn't mind. She gets the box first and is planning to add a few herself.

how do I post picture of all this????
Amazing, truly amazing!

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Just write your message, then left click on the browse below the message, it will bring up your picture or documents file, find your picture, left click on the picture you want to post, then click on preview and you can see if you have the right one, and send. Simple! There's a proper answer in the FAQ forum. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/397510/

When I do a link, I always preview it first, then check to see if the link works. I decided to always check the links after I goofed up and it didn't work. Saves hassles. :)

I'm sitting here telling my hubby (who is a non-interested non-gardener) all about "The Box". He thinks "The Box" is a good thing, because he thinks that many of my seeds are going away. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! He's so delusional!!! LOL

Wichita, KS

LOL!
I will be sure to post a pic of what it looks like before I send it on its way.

:-)

Willoughby, OH(Zone 5a)

Every one I know-even mere acquaintances- have heard more about "The Box" than they ever cared to. They all roll their eyes at me when I manage to squeeze "The Box" into every conversation. I can't imagine why. It is the most important news of the century. You think they'd want to know each and every detail.

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

Looks good from here.

Wichita, KS

You mean they don't ?!?

Boulder Creek, CA(Zone 9a)

DW does not roll her eyes. She tolerates my mania quite well. Enables it frequently when I show her an online picture of a gorgeous shrub I want. Ecolage got a big order from me that she started just last Sunday!

She says, "That's good, you don't hafta wait too long. LOL" when I casually mention that I am # FIVE on "The Box" list.

She does ask if there will be any room to walk this summer on the deck. My reassuring response (demonstrating small sideways baby steps) does elicit eye rolling! Her thing is books. I think she has more books than I have plants. 'Course my plant books are increasing also but so far she has not mentioned that as a factor!

Sounds like my wife, she says that the yard gets smaller every year. To her that is the bad news! I just smile and ad a few more every week or so (hoping she will not notice).

Shepherd, TX(Zone 8b)

I have the same problem with the DH's computer stuff--books, parts, cables, software...the list goes on, and it's all piled up in a stack on top of his desk, on top the entertainment center, next to the couch, in the storage building. He gets stuff all the time that I find out after the fact, and I manage to hide stuff for awhile (in the open...he doesn't notice), then one day he'll ask "Where did that come from?" I just wave it off, "Oh, I've had that for awhile...," and it's usually the truth! The catch to the whole game is that he does computers and networking for a living, while I live to plant, so therefore my greenery isn't high on his priority list. I'm working on him, though...he's beginning to learn an aster from a zinnia. :-)

Westmoreland, TN(Zone 7a)

I taught DH what a morning glory was, its the only flower that stuck all the rest seem to fly right over his head.
He will snatch seed for me sometimes, i'll take what little i can get from him he has no need for the plants.
he looks at my flower beds as something else he will have to mow around.
Bless his Heart if he only knew what i have planed for our new yard hehehe

Guess I'm rather fortunate in that DW is the occasional co-conspirator. The tricky part is when the credit card bill comes. She, you see, is the family bookkeeper... a job I loathe.

Maybe it all balances out in the end. I always encourage her to buy a book if she's at all hesitant. "Well, look on Amazon! They have everything, dear!"

lol...yea i start talking about the 4 wheeler and all is good.

rh3708,

While I don't like to do it, I may have to put a brick border around my flower beds this year. For the last 2 years, I've lost plants growing closest to the grass. My husband goes into a trance when he climbs on his tractor and claims he didn't know it was a flowering plant. But he doesn't mind my seed habit as long as I use all the seed. What bothers him is that he has to dig the holes for my trees and shrubs — MY hobby. I used to be able to dig my own holes, but i've had rotator cuff surgery on both shoulders and can't do it anymore. I keep telling him that a backhoe would be really handy (We moved 3 years ago and have had to start landscaping our garden from scratch.) I can hardy wait for the 'BOX to get here.

Westmoreland, TN(Zone 7a)

yea I know what you mean my DH hates digging holes for my hobby.
But he will do it cause I'm his baby Is what he tells me.
I wish he would bring the backhoe or the track hoe home i want a pond.
But i dare not ask for one just yet.
I think i will do that after the first year here.
DH is always running over something in the yard so i put anything i can find around the beds so he wont get to my good plants.
I can stand a few things getting cut back a little but if it is something rare i have a hissy fit.
I had pipe bells around most of the rose bushes cause he would hit them with the mower and cause a small bit of damage.
But i cant do that here it isn't like the farm where i could get away with things like that.
I will have to use landscaping blocks or something that the neighborhood wont mind looking at.
It is sooooo different here than on the farm i am slowly getting use to it.
I didn't think i would miss the old farm but part of me probably always will.

Funny, the move for us was in the opposite direction — from the city to the ranch and in the middle of nowhere. Now that I have all the space I want for my garden, I'm having the fight of my life against Burmuda Grass. Getting used to such a different life style takes a while. I still can't get used to the smells.

I have to mark my plants too, or they're goners. Every now and then he'll get crazy with the RoundUp, so I have to make sure he knows where NOT to put it. I've banned him from certain areas because I don't trust him! I carried I don't know how many chunks of broken up concrete from my old place when we moved here, and they've served their purpose, but I'm starting to hate the white fake-rock look. My dad has 15 acres, part of which has natural iron ore deposits, so he has all these big rocks in a hillside. He's told me that I can have all I can take, so the last time I was up there, I came home with a truckload of them. They look great around my flowerbeds, and I can bust the larger ones up with a hammer if I need smaller ones. What's really cool is that I've found fossils in some of the larger ones, so I'm setting them in special places for viewing. My problem now is that I'm nearly out of rocks, and I've just warmed up getting my yard together!

oooh, look, nuts added seed packets with pretty pictures! I went into a LGS with a friend the other day, and we agreed that's the one problem with ordering seeds by mail or trading for them -- no pictures on the seed packets! (That is, except for the packs WZ sent me, but she is just awesome!) I see zinnias.... ooooooh...... I have a big baggie of mixed tall zinnia elegans that I will add to the box when it comes to me! I wonder what the packet with the picture of the owl could contain? Now I'm more curious than ever! :-)
