CLOSED: CLOSED: Round Robin with a Twist Part II

Westmoreland, TN(Zone 7a)

I go with DH on 4 wheeler outings and i bring back all kinds of rocks.
I am trying to get him to bring me home a boulder the next time they have to blast.
He is always telling me about the big boulder's they get after a blast and i just have to have one or two.
Don't know how i am gonna swing that one...got any ideas:}

I thought I was unlucky because my husband does not do lawn work. Sounds like I am pretty lucky with all the mowing over plants going on. LOL
When we lived in base housing years ago there was a huge oval shaped boulder in our yard when we moved in. I don't know how they got something that big in a truck. I used to tell the neighborhood children that I saw Superman fly over and drop it. They were all impressed! LOL

Shepherd, TX(Zone 8b)

Ooh, I didn't see that before I posted! 10 more weeks for me...I wonder what goodies will be in "The Box" when I get it?

Westmoreland, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm sure there will be all kind of goodies in the box when it gets to me.
I just know i will need help saying no to myself...hehehe
wont that be a good one...I dont think no is a word i use when it comes to seeds and plants.
I just know if i dont plant it i can give it away...or trade it for something i must have...you know what i mean?hehe

Hey ya'll, isn't this thread starting to get kinda long to load? Not that I'm in line for this fat robin, but lurking is fun. *giggle*

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

I know I have some forsythia seeds somewhere. I had a lot on my bush last fall, so decided to try to winter sow them. A bird kept going into the bush and eating them. I didn't know they were that tasty.LOL
Anyway, I never got around to winter sowing the ones I harvested. But I had an old container left under the tree after some annuals died and I guess that bird helped to sow a few for me. I found them sitting on top of the soil, so I guess they needed light to germinate. Mother Nature did all the rest for me. I picked the pot up and put a plastic bag around it so it would stay moist and not dry out. Now the seeds are sprouting. I know it is easy to propagate these with cuttings, but some of you might not have the bush to harvest twigs from and can do the winter sowing with seeds. I can't wait to see how well they do once the weather warms up.
I also have some maximillani perennial sunflower seeds and nepetafolia type leafed lion's ears to add.
Who knows, by the time I get it, I might have some Johnny Jump up seed. They are up already and popping up in the cutest places.

...for the first box...you can always go out and get more!

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

I got my seeds together today to put in the box. It is quite a bit. I hope the box doesn't get too big. Is it being sent priority, or what? I don't know too much about the different options of sending boxes. It was mentioned there is a set price for some. Is that how itis being sent.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I think we are way past fitting it into a priority box. They said it cost like 9 something to ship two priority might be cheaper?

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Shipping 2 priority wouldn't be cheaper. The cheapest rate is the $7.70 flat rate box. Be nice if we can widdle it down a little to fit in that size.

Boulder Creek, CA(Zone 9a)

Whoever has it now PLEASE tell us what it weighs and how big a box it is! The flat rate boxes can weigh up to 70 lbs. I think there are 2 sizes only for the flat rate boxes.

The problem will be volumn I bet.

Steve (waiting as patiently as I can!)

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Both flat rate boxes wigh the same, they are just shaped differently. If it's being shipped at $9, that's not a big difference. According to my PO, the flat rate only really saves when you are shipping heavy. Since we are shipping seeds, I don't think that's the issue. The post office I go is very small and I know the staff pretty well, so sometimes when I'm shipping I just bring my "stuff" in and experiment with sizing. So far I've done better NOT using the flat rate. (I tend to use alot of packing which makes the box bigger, but not heavier. Again, we're not talking a big difference. My last 2 boxes went out at $6.90!)

BTW, if you look at the first photo, it is definately going Priority. (Note box and Priortity Confirmation Label.)

My, my! This is getting exciting. Whoever removes the packet with the owl on it, PLEASE let us know what the seeds are for! I, for one, am TOO curious!

Have you received the Big Box yet? Mailed it priority on 3/11. Let me know if I need to contact post office.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

USPS "track & confirm" for that number says, "Your item was delivered at 10:13 am on March 14, 2005 in MOUNT PROSPECT, IL 60056." I think DJM96 is simply speachless!! Hopefully she'll post soon and satisfy our curiousity about that packet with the owl.... IMWTK!

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

okay you guys quick post office thing.

once it says delivered that means it made it to the post office. it could still take a day or too to get there depending if its a po box or a place outside the post office like a street.

so DJM 96 might not have it yet. probably today or tommorow depending on the address.

Westmoreland, TN(Zone 7a)

I wanna know what they are also.
You got my curious bone a itchin, but for now i gotta go to the creek and git some cane for my vines.
This is gonna be fun wounder if'n i'll see any snakes this early in the year?I went in may last year and saw plenty.
I'm taken my tools wit me so's i can git bunche's,hehe
I'll talk at yall after awhile

Thanks for the clarification, imzadi! I've only tracked UPS packages, which works differently. It's fun tracking this bird as she flies around!

I am thinking I want one seed of everything at least, and planting a round shaped garden named Round Robin. LOL
Of course I might have some pretty unusual looking things in it that do not go together. Maybe a lot of little circles with like plants in them.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

The postmaster here doesn't scan a box until I pick it up. So is it scanned when it arrives at the destination PO and then again when the recipient picks it up? Just wondering here.

Willoughby, OH(Zone 5a)

Hi,all. IMHO ,I believe WAYYY too much pressure is being put on these poor folks. It's kinda reducing the fun factor if you can't relax, and go through the seeds without thinking "I gotta get these back out,I gotta get these back out..."
I think critterologist is right...this is going to take a LONG time, and if you are near the end of the list like myself,I wouldn't expect it before next year.Remember...there are over 500 seeds in this box, that's alot of sorting, selecting, packing up what you want,etc..and it will take some longer than others. I'm just thrilled to be a part of this, aren't you!
Gail

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yes! It's fun following the robin on its flight, but please don't anybody think they need to get frantic trying to turn it around in the least possible amount of time. Alice's original thought was 2 or 3 days until you send it out again, and if it takes another day or two before you can sort through everything, then that's fine. As long as you don't stick it in the front hall closet and forget about it for weeks, I can't see anybody getting crispy about it. I know we're all eagerly anticipating each stop it makes, as that's part of the fun of this robin, but it'll get here when it gets here.... and then, wheeeeee!!!

Boulder Creek, CA(Zone 9a)

I'm not sure I agree there is too much pressure. We are just chattin'! Carrying on in the usual silly way.

I know when I get the box I'll look right away and sort things out cuz I wanna see everything....

Then send it on its way!

Steve

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Sorry, that should've read, Yes! I'm thrilled too! rather than implying I think we're strong arming folks here. I think we're all very excited about The Box, and we're enjoying following its path, but I hope nobody feels they're being pressured!

Boulder Creek, CA(Zone 9a)

Pressure?

What pressure?

Thumbnail by srkrause
Shepherd, TX(Zone 8b)

No pressure here...I'm still trying to sow everything I've been accumulating for the past 4 years! That's what happens when you move from a postage-stamp mobile home lot to a full acre. It's truly an overload trying to figure out where to put everything at once!

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

So is it scanned when it arrives at the destination PO and then again when the recipient picks it up? Just wondering here.???

answer: no

what happens is its scanned in at the orignal post office and is supposed to be scanned at every major post office along the way( say like Atlanta Dallas) big city type places. then when it gets to the post office of orging its scanned upon arrival.

some will scan it if its delivered t your doorstep but its not something that is followed even though it should be.

Tracking is only really from the oringal po to the final po.

Granddad used to work in a post office.

some post offices are stricter then others on the rules.

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

Queenb i know what you mean. i lived on a mobile home lot till last summer and moved too 2 acres. i still havent gotten everything planted.

we bought a few trees this peat weekend and it took us an hour just to decide where to put the things. i have 2 acres and cant figure out where i want to stick stuff. Lol

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

My mailman beeped his horn the other day and I went out to the driveway to meet him. He had a little scanner with him and confirmed the delivery label right there. I am just stating this, as I have no interest in where the box is or whether it has been delivered. Just saying that this is how they do it in Toney, Al.
Our local Nursery Exotic Harvest just opened for the season, and I am not going to go there. I am not...LOL
I pass it all the time when I go anyplace as it is the only road to civilization. It always has cool stuff that Lowe's and Home Depot don't carry. I have gotten some pretty neat stuff there, but am trying to hold out spending money and just plant seeds this year. Yeah, I know I will weaken in time.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Guess I'll ask next time I go to the counter. I know he scans labels when I pick them up. We don't have home delivery, too small a town. ...Nice that he brings boxes out to you that have to be scanned, Windy! I think it is very true that it all depends on the particular postmaster you are dealing with.

Westmoreland, TN(Zone 7a)

Hey yall guess what happened to me while i was knee deep in mud and muck cutting cane?
Well it wasn't a snake but a frog ,dang thang scared me half to death, made me do a little dance before i knew what it was, boy did i fill silly when i found out what it was.LOL
And I would like to take this time to Bragg
My Son called me and said his wife is going to have another baby but not just one she's haveing twins.
I'm just tickled Pink about it ,and they are scared.
Well i got to go clean the cane and finish up my chores.

Ours are scanned in the mail truck, too. And my gal will put boxes inside my sunroom if they say "perishable" on them. Great for plant trading! (And, yes, I reciprocate with many acts of kindness throughout the year, from Seed Packs for Christmas, to Chocolates and Champagne for NYEve, to seedlings in the Spring!) You gotta know you've got it bad when the Mail Carrier screeches into your driveway with deliveries and says things like, "Oh, and look! We got a new bubble mailer!" -*o*-

Mount Prospect, IL(Zone 5a)

OK, The box arrived AFTER 10:30AM yesterday. Because I was home til 1pm when I had a doctor appointment and had to leave. There was NO BOX outside at that time. When I arrived home at 4pm, the box was there.
I wrote a note last night to let people know the box was here and when I pushed the send or submit whatever, the computer froze and I had no idea if my mail went through.
My daughter came over today to fix the computer and I was sorry to see my notice did not go through and I am sorry for any anxiety this caused.
The postage was $8.50 with confirmation, and I don't think this was bad at all when you think of all the seeds and the great variety there is in the box. This is an excellent robin.
The robin is on its way to Texas. It went out this morning.

Shepherd, TX(Zone 8b)

So close, yet so far away....

Congrats on the double grandbabies, RH!!! I'm sure you'll have fun spoiling them when they get here.

Stacey
