Wichita, KS

WooHoo
I am #2.
I can't wait. Better get my seeds ready.
Thank you so much :-)

Boulder Creek, CA(Zone 9a)

So we can all post the confirm # when we ship it on to the next person?

Willoughby, OH(Zone 5a)

Holy sheese, won't it take DAYS to go through 500 packs of seeds!??Give the poor girl a chance!LOL!

Boulder Creek, CA(Zone 9a)

DAYS??? I was gonna be v. generous and allow hours!

LOL

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Can't wait! This is going to be the world's longest lasting thread, I have a feeling! We could be finishing up next March with the amount of seeds and people! PLUS, all of the new things going in, if we continue season to season, it will all be new stuff going in! So it COULD just keep going round and round....!!! Wonder how many states it is going to cover. Have fun Brandnewgirl! ZZTopsoil I know you will be adding some GREAT things for me! Flowernutt, I promise to do the same for you! I do think keeping track of what we all add to the box would be interesting! The work and time already given was just so generous! Thank you so much Alice! Thank your sweet granddaughter also! How old is she? I know she really enjoyed doing this with you and is most likely something she will never forget!
Have fun everyone!

Alice, thank you for the time and effort this took to pull off. As a seedaholic, I can't tell you how excited I am! Please tell me your secret on how to get your GD to help. I am always tring to get my girls to help sort/clean seeds or enter them in my database and the response is always the same, "No way, Mom!"

Cassopolis, MI(Zone 5a)

My goodness I am a little worried about this group!! I think you may all be over the edge!

plant_fiend I am sure my daughter would not have wanted to help either, but its very different with you grandchildren. You will be lots more interesting to your grandchildren than you are to your children.

Jessie is 8 going on 18. She is my son and daughter-in-law youngest and last child, and has been around adults probably more than children. Yes she felt very important helping me put the whole thing together and that is such a good feeling for kids to experience.

I did not make an inventory of what is in the box, which is why I chose to distribute them this way, because I knew if I tried to wait until I had a list so people could pick individual things, that the seeds would still be here with me next winter! I have been feeling really guilty sitting here with all of these seeds and no place to use them. I kept probably close to 100 packages of things that I just know I am going to use!!haha I have no idea where I will put them either, but there must a corner available somewhere!

brandnewgirl I am glad that the box arrived and I really do hope you find at least a few things in it to make the postage going back out worthwhile, I think that is one of my biggest concerns!

I am really enjoying this thread and the fact that you are having such a good time with this!!!

Hey, Steve, is there a game of "Pooh Sticks" going on in that picture??

With regard to the cost for outgoing postage, I think it might be better if we whittled down the robin (including our add-ins) to what will fit in that $7.70 flat rate box. I have visions of the box getting bigger and bigger as it travels, since this is such a generous group! If we use the flat rate box, we might have a chance of keeping the robin from getting so unwieldy it has trouble flying..... And for those of us without accurate-to-the-ounce scales, the flat rate postage will make the robin quicker to turn around and send out again, which is all to the good as I think it may take most of this year for the robin to complete its first circuit. (If you figure an average of 2 days per person for turnaround plus 3 days transit time times 44 people, that's 220 days, or about 7 months, which takes us to October, and I've heard that a week per person is a more accurate estimate of robin flight time.)

I really don't mean to be anything like a wet blanket -- I'm as excited about this robin as anybody! -- but I think we need to make some attempt to keep this manageable..... if that word can even apply to a robin that starts out with hundreds of seed packs! LOL

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

I don't know that it will be a problem - time will tell, of course. I'm sure alot of people won't be adding, as that really wasn't Alice's intent, so NO GUILT to anyone if that's the case. And someone just starting out may need/want 50 packs, and that's cool, too. Alice put no limits on her gifting, so there's just no way of guessing. I think that's part of the fun...

PS - I might not suvive until the package gets here - I'm getting the vapors just thinking about it! LOL LOL!

Oh this is a fun idea, and yes at times there are some that are on limited budgets.. so its good as she did in the beginning to remind everyone that this is a biggie...and set some type of limit on postage...

now its up to the list of daves buddies, to make it work in a timely manner..

thanks for organizing this one.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

The Postage cost is well worth it. I know my seed orders come to over $20 each, when you think of $2, $3, and more per Pkt. And I never use all the seeds in a pkt. because I love variety. I am so happy to participate in these great RRs. I get all robin pimpley think about it! SEEYA, Margie aka Queen of Dirtland

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I agree that such a fabulous selection is well worth the postage needed to send it around. I was thinking more of turnaround time, in terms of the flat rate box being easier for some folks, and in terms of the time needed to look through so many seeds! It seems to me the box is as likely to get larger as smaller as it makes its rounds, and I thought it might be useful to set an upper limit.... then again, I'm near the beginning of the robin rather than near the end, so it's not really my call!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

At the moment we're only talking about an 80 cent difference, so maybe we can play it by ear? BTW - I just received a package with about 150 seeds from a DG friend...and you guys are correct. It will take time to go through them, especially if you have to look them up in the PlantFiles or beyond. But what a FUN project! I'm in awe...

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

i was wondering about a time limit each of us have it. i mean i know life gets in the way but having it sit somewhere for more then a couple of days doesnt seem fair to me. i mean you could forget about it and take weeks to get it out agian.

i would like to see it in my planting season and get rid of some of mine too.

just a thought.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

I believe we were requested to get them out in 2-3 days?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Imzadi, I don't see any way the package will reach you in time for planting this spring, even if everyone turns it around quickly (see my previous calculation). But the seeds will still be good next year, and that will give you a chance to plan where to put the plants and how many you'd like to start from the box.....

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Amen, critter. I think we should all just relax and enjoy this wonderful gift! It's a wonderful adventure that we all have the privilege of enjoying together!

Happy gardening, my friends!

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

i aint trying to rush it. maybe it will get here for fall planting.

didnt mean to step on anyones toes.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

You are way too sweet for anyone to ever find you offensive!

We're all just trying to make this work as best as possible - while we drool and dream and plan and anticipate. I, for one, will love it regardless of when it arrives.

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

shoot if my hubby knew i had a boxx coming eventually he would shoot me. LOL

awww now i am blushing :} Sequee you are a sweet heart!!!

i am constantly giving seeds away. now my daughter is into gardening. her daturas sprung up today. you could hear her all over the house. i tried to tell her i cant tell what color they are just by looking at them. so i know she will pick one or two to grow. i just bought her one of those easter egg plant thingys and i dont know anyone who eats egg plant. LOL:}

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

I live in zone 7a and I plant twice. I always start things again when the spring things start getting less than pretty. Last year I started things close to the fourth of July and still got beautiful flowering plants right up until first frost. In your zone, you should be able to do the same I would think.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

This is such a great robin to be in ,helping new gardeners and oldes find different seed they don't have . Thanks,Aknapp and your grand for doing this. My grand age 4 was busy slinging seeds the other night in her cups , she ended up with about 6 of them while I was doing mine and would you believe they where up in 2 days and mine under the lights are not. Just shows you these childern of today know what they are doing. LoL
Thanks Again,
Carolyn

Boulder Creek, CA(Zone 9a)

Is that the "RAPTURES" for a gardener?

New York & Terrell, TX(Zone 8b)

Yes Sequee, she is probably doing the happy-happy, joy-joy thing!

She emailed me just late last night to tell me the trade we had going on before she got the seeds' box was going to be coming to me and that she did not forget about our on going trade.

~* Robin

Boulder Creek, CA(Zone 9a)

Box Springs, GA

Hi!I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while.I'm sending it out on Monday-I just got finished going through all of the seeds:)I hope I didn't take too long:)

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow! I am totally impressed! You are certainly setting a high standard for us to live by.

Please post your tracking number AND shipping costs so we know what to expect. I know some folks are worried about the shipping getting out-of-hand, so this might help them out!

BTW - I still haven't gotten through the package I received yesterday and it only had a thrid of what you sorted through. I promise to do better when it's my turn at the twisted Robin!

Boulder Creek, CA(Zone 9a)

EMail me if any RR TWISTED Box sender wants help w/ postage... I'll help out if it's too big a crimp in yer budget! Been there, done that.

Willoughby, OH(Zone 5a)

Monticello 4, IA(Zone 4a)

Just saw this thread and wondered if I could get into the round robin? I have been wondering what to do with all these seeds I have and I KNOW i will have tons of 2005 seeds I never will use. I am really interested to see how this ends up :). I would like to learn how you did it and perhaps start one up on my own. I have so many DG people to thank so perhaps this would be a good way to start! LMK if I am too late, I would still love to watch to see how it goes!!! If I am able to join, and since I will be one of the last, let me know what seeds you guys are hungering for and I can start my collection to include???

Thanks!

Mindy

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Hi Mindy, Just go to the Round Robin fourm and chec out the posts there to see how they are set up. I am not sure if you need Adimn approval to start one, but sheran could tell you. She is the Queen of the Round Robins, and has gotten us all addicted. I look forward to each one of them. Good luck, Margie aka Queen of Dirtland
