Seed Snatchin' Part VII
Weeze, got those nifty packages of Nasty seeds today. Thank you so much.
Carol sure has packet making down, right to the planting instructions.
Thanks, SW! Glad they arrived OK. Annie! Glad to see you, girl! I'm just green with envy that you get to garden all the time!
That's why I moved here..., and why I don't know how I could ever live colder again.
I'm getting old enough that I need the rest from gardening. I'd be dragging myself around the yard with a walker if I could garden all year.
Weez, lol, I just about need one now, I weeded so much yesterday and trimmed like a mad dog, I had to take a muscle relaxer to even walk, every muscle in my body hurt so much, I did heavy yard worl for 2 days straight!!! So much rain, so many unwanted weeds, I need to have clear space for my many, many new seedlings, yeppie, and I just got mail from a new DG member in my neighborhood, I am thrilled!!!! So I invited her to go snatching with me, great morning!!!!! Annie

Youuuuu houuuuuu, did the bus leave without me again????? Hello, hello, hellooooo? {: ~ )= Annie
Hi, Annie
I've been over at the other end of the Garden doing battle over Siberian Pea bushes, so I think I missed the bus, too. Pull up and pant leg and see if you can get us a ride to catch up. I'd flash a bit of calf, but we'd be waiting here all night.
maybe that's 3 of us sittin' on the curb. ?
btw Annie - Aglaonema "Silverado" is the full name and now I see there's a whole slew of those Agla's. It'll sure take awhile for single starts to multiply and produce the big lush pots at work or that I saw for sale (lots of $$$$ too!) on the web but served a quick fix for the need to snatch. :)
I think everyone is buried in catalogues, seed trays or depending on where they're located, already out playing the in the yard. I can see the yard now but it's frozen under the grass and mulch.
Howdy, bus has been in the shop for a check-up, so everyone can chill.
I was wondering if blaine had fallen into a snow drift, but you other two were with us just a few days ago, or have I the memory short.
We're throwing seeds out on the road now, I mean planting.
I think somebody kicked me off the bus...I forget the name but it could be something like hairy..........lol!!!
;) Donna
No, PG. weve all been scattered for awhile. Hairy???
Yep! I'm up to my knees in seed trays and three year olds over here! He's on kicked over two so far poor little fella! He had this huge look at me and after I composed myself I gave him a big huge and said, I know it's not your fault! He hugged me right back :) I'd throw them all out in the yard for him! :)) Don't KICK me off the bus for saying that though!! HA
Nicole
Ah, there ya are! Missed ya hairy! Weez, who'd want to give a ride to this old lady over here, all scragely looking, dirt all over my face and my derriere, I've been pulling those darn rain weeds for the last 2 days now, can hardly move, I had to take a long good snooze.
NC, those cute little ones, we don't get whooped when we drop something, and I'm glad you gave him a hug, ya must be a great mommy!
Well the leanTo is almost finished, my seed trays will have a new home till they grow up! We're out of town next week, DS will be at outdoor school for 5 WHOLE DAYS, YEPPIE, We get grownup time, do stuff he hates, eat where we want, stay out late, well that part, don't know about, get tired early now days, lol, Annie
(((Weez,)))
I read about your zip code incident. Shaking my head here. I don't get it. You have contributed so much. :(
Hugs and support here!
Nicole, no one would throw you off the bus for that! You're a great mom. Hugs were in order there!
Annie, a dirty derriere is the price of admission!
Who's Hairy?
Hairy legged man.....lol!!
:) Donna
There aren't but two men brave enough, 8ft, & Dyson. It never hurts to have some extra muscle around.
very true!
Well the beauty of the seed snatching threads is that they can lie dormant for awhile, then pop up again... just like desert flowers (desert flowers: cactus blooms, dessert flowers: sugared violas?... I can never keep this straight and ispell won't help!) I'm pretty busy myself. I've got about 40 flats going so far in the basement, and I'm due to start planting seeds from the week 13 bag, so that's going to be several more flats. I transplanted the first batches of lobelia, and most of the hardy geranium. Now I'm working on dianthus. Each little container equals a flat or two of plants, so it really starts to multiply. I'm going to have to use the haloid lights again this year. That electric meter is going to be spinning like an obsessed carousel!
All - gotta get this in while I still have internet access - gonna be down for awhile, can't help it. Will check in as possible (working on a way to access through wireless). You'all take care, please be carefull, and remember "If you can't be good - be good at it". - Dyson
Will do, Dyson. Hurry back. Sounds like the bus is taking a nap for awhile, anyway.
Oh dyson, I want to remember your saying, I love it!!!!!!!
Weez, sounds like you've been a busy bee, my goodness, that's a lot of seeds! I can hardly get rid of the dirt in my fingernails, lol, I found seedling amongs the weeds, and was sooo happy, even another cholla seedling, this yard used to be full of C&S, darn those stupid people here before us, took them all out, but at least some of the seeds have made cute little ones!!!
Annie
Hi gang! Been playing baby all day! Need to get my tomatos in this weekend too.. Weez - don't know what incident Oceangirl is referring to but I hope everythings OK!!!! Gosh I am just not in the mood to type right now though... I am going to check my other threads and sit down and do nothing!
:) Nicole
Hi, NC. I admire anyone who can just go sit down. I've always got to have some agenda, so rest time is never really restful! No big incident really. Someone from our local Forest Service thinks I'm selling invasives to the locals and posted a comment on the PF... yes, it's me the Siberian Pea pusher... cuff me, print me, lock me up.
Now I hear people get away with mixing a little oregano with their bud or talcum powder with their other illicit white powders, but WEEZ - you should know better than trying to cut your clematis seeds with dandelions!! You'll get busted everytime!!
Speaking of invasives (...and not me) the new issue of National Geographic has a very neat article on this subject. Plants and animals
8ft, I'm afraid the talcum is more dear to me than the illicit drugs, since a fat lady on a hot day needs all the help she can get! I'm pretty fond of oregano, so I'd be inclined to prefer it to the bud!
I'll have to take a look for the National Geographic. I used to have a subscription years ago, but found I wasn't taking the time to read them. I'm afraid, in most cases, the biggest invasive life form is man. We transport easily and can adapt to any environment. We reseed indiscriminately and cross pollinate like crazy. We're perennial, reseed, and spread like crazy.
Aren't we though?
Me busy bee and mom too. Hollar when the bus is almost ready, and I'll come a runnin!
Oh my eyeballs are about ready to boing out of my head on slinky springs after catching up with so many posts since I've been gone. You all have been busy little beavers and a few times I had to hold my ribs in out of fear of breaking one of them from laughing outloud!
Say great and powerful hairy legged one... don't sweat the Dawn Redwood. I am relatively sure I ordered 10 of those for delivery this spring and you are welcome to one of them although Great America does have some nice specimens. You do realize there is a way to get around that gate on Grand Ave by entering over off of Rt 21 right? It's the service entry. You are slipping 8ft!
I need a seed fix and I can't find it in a dumpster. Does anyone have any cp seed out there? I lost most of the seed I had germinated on hot pads and under lights when I was gone when the people watching the house let my trays dry out. My Droseras are all toast as are all of my utricularias and pinguiculas. I feel like SCREAMING!
On the lighter side of things, I saw red wing black birds out scoping the area and that is a sure fire sign that spring is around the corner. Yee ha!
Equil! If you're ordering a few DR's, you might as well get a really special one. There a few cultivars and Wayside Garden has one called 'Gold Rush'. It's a Dawn Redwood but has yellow foliage. I had ordered one a couple of years ago but it wasn't happy where I put it. The 2nd year it finally took off, put up a new leader, got a good foot of growth then dried up and died. Not sure but I suspect I was a bit careless in the wind while waging chemical warfare.... under the influence. :)
You want to pick over my seeds? Mostly stuff I bought and I doubt I'll start a fraction of it. You're in the neighborhood aren't you? I've got a bunch of Chinese Red and Water birches started. Still need to start a few of the Canoe birches and have plent of those seeds left as well.
Hey there 8ft, thanks for the offer to pick over your seed stash . I'm needing a carnivorous plant fix though and sadly there aren't too many people with that type of seed which is why I am about ready to have heart failure. That's what I lost while I was gone, carnivorous seedlings newly germinated. Yes, I'm only a few miles from you back behind Gurnee Mills. You wanna pick over my seed stash? It's all native seed though. Better yet, come on over some time and walk around this spring or summer and stick little stakes by anything you want seed from and I'll collect it for you when it is ready. You are also welcome to divide anything I have that might interest you (many hostas) so feel free to have a field day over here. I also have River Birch coming in bareroot if you are interested in that for your birch collection. Just e-mail me if you wanna stop over.
Hi all. Missed everyone this weekend.
Boy am I ready for the dang bus to leave. I just want to climb in, pull off, and not look back! Ha ha I suppose. My seeds are doing OK I suppose, although my Prarie Sun Rudbeckia are doing horribly! I am mad about that because I actually bought those!! Grr..
Keep your chin up :) ....
Sorry about your seeds. That's part of the reason I rarely grow anything from seed unless the only effort involved is throwing them on the ground and walking away!...LOL I've been dissappointed one too many times with my seed growing efforts.
Me too, hc.
But this year I tried again. I am having luck with daylillies, and pansies are coming up- not much of anything else. Oh, wheatgrass. Gonna start annuals a little later.
Nc I can't wait for this bus to leave either!
I am so pooped, I am just sitting on the curb. So when it is ready to go, please wake me up and don't leave me behind :-)
Bless it's little ole heart.
OK, wake up everybody, the bus is warming up and it's time to load up: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/489126/
uggh,, yawn,,, thanks for the wake up call Weez. Where we headed? Got enough gas (oline) ?
I will try to keep my germs to myself... :-)
Hey, Tamara, you feelin' poorly? Put on this Michael Jackson mask and climb onboard. We'll head on over to the new thread.
Thatis very funny, even though I don't get it :-D
And I'm already there, literally...
Just meant we can keep down the germ spreading, that way! Thought perhaps you have the flu!
