Note concerning downtime

Farmington, ME(Zone 4b)

I was getting the HTTP 403 forbidden for hours! Found out my server password had been changed. Changed it back and it is back to normal.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks for your help, Terry. I couldn't get in by the "back door" but made it through a "side door". I joined DG through my DSL service but discovered I could access DG on my dialup...totally different system, different ID, etc. As soon as I had done that, the DSL entry reopened as though nothing had happened. I really marvel that there are people who actually understand this stuff.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

It is very slow for me. Timed out on a text only thread for me this morning. I'm glad the site is back up though. I hate being without DG.

Corning, OH(Zone 6a)

Dave, I entered a lot of things to my journal yesterday morning and they're not there now. Will I have to redo them all?

And thanks for getting us back up so quickly !

No, you don't need to re-enter them. I will recover those for you.

Dave

SC, MT(Zone 5a)

I do believe we are all addicted!!!

I felt that it was a server problem and that with patience I would be back here .........
BUT.........I tried to do other things in the time allotted for DG and I had no concentration......I messed up every little project all day long.

I am so glad to be back. Thank you Dave, for being "on top of it all and prepared"

It is no wonder that this is the best place for gardeners of all kinds to come to.

Bell

DiOhio, your journal entries are back now - would you take a look and verify?

Dave

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Thought I had been banned! :-O Thanks for getting DG back up so fast Dave! I still can't access the PF though. Back to my lurking, muhahhahha.

Farmington, ME(Zone 4b)

Dave, I'm having a problem with opening the site! Sometimes it is very slow, other times it won't open at all.
I thought maybe it was my server, but other sites are fine. Are there still some problems on your end?
Thanks Bonnie

It's slow today, and I'm working on it all day trying to improve.

dave

Farmington, ME(Zone 4b)

Thanks, My server said maybe I needed to download Spybot. I have norton's and have not had any problems before yesterday. Do you think I should just wait a few days before I worry about it?

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

Dave ... I too, have clearly seen your reply post - about workin' on it ...

. . . but feel complelled to mention anyway - that [it] is v-e-r-y s-l-o-w .. with highly erratic functioning, and drastic tendencies to 'hang' and 'stall out' !! ... Problem/s appears isolated solely to DG ...

Perhaps the back hoe operator may have been a God send, after all. (NOT!!) .. but, maybe these interferences and these slowed episodes shall aid .. to 'wean' myself from such cyber-dependencies.

Geezers .. I've even managed to get my taxes done !!! ... Along with a few other relatively important items I've managed to get check'd off my 'list' ... that I've long been procrastinatin' in gettin' done! ...

- Magpye

Magpye,

I said several times in this thread and other threads in this forum and on this site that the site is slow today! That means I already know about the problem and am working to get better performance out of this new server.

There comes a point where I don't need to be reminded about it anymore, particularly when solving that problem is all I've done for 2 days.

Dave

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

Tis somewhat peculiar .. you waited till after my post, Dave .. to use me for your scape goat and proverbial punchin' bag !! ...

Where it's obvious that you've opted to not respond the same to the others above ...

Appreciate it greatly ...

- Magpye

Magpye, scroll up - I already responded once in this very thread.

Read the post from today at 1:41 PM CT. Do you see that? Therefore you see I didn't "wait" for you to post. I responded to each individual as they posted, including you. I don't single people out unless they desire or need it.

Dave

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Yikes. Guess we'd better be quiet for a while. :-)

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

TAXES! Now you've given me a panic attack, Magpye! At least I got my sales tax in by the 31st. I've been using the downtime to enter my trade seeds and seed orders into my Excel seed database. It's amazing how much I can get done when I'm not checking my watched threads every 5 minutes!

I really thing that one of the reasons we all get so irritable about these occasional problems is that we are a bunch of DG addicts that don't take abstinance very gracefully! We've become pretty spoiled by this user-friendly website we've all come to call home. If I were Dave, I'd probably feel like I was cooking for a family of thousands, and every one of them pulling on my shirt tail asking when supper will be ready! LOL!

I think all of us appreciate what you are doing, and what you are trying to do, Dave. Our impatience is irritating, I'm sure, but it is also an expression of how much we've come to love this garden you have created.

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

... Ahhhh, perhaps it's jes simply my, imagination ...

- Magpye

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Magpye, don't move- there's a huge hairy spider by your finger!!!
*squishes it*- there, all better! :-)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Thanks for everything, Dave. You run this site so tightly and well that when the occasional catastrophe does happen, we don't worry. We know it's just a momentary blip and you'll have things as good or better than before. No complaints from us! On the rare occasions when when we've not been able to get on DG, we usually e-mail three or four friends from here and see if they are having troubles, too.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Magpye, your imagination is one of the most delightful things about you! I think we all just need to step back and let Dave do his magic, or he's going to smack us with a wooden spoon and tell us to go clean our rooms, & I can't run as fast as you can.

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Or.. he may turn the site to where all the words are in Swahili!!!! :-O

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

I'll bet we'd all be learning Swahili in no time!

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

lol

Lamar, AR(Zone 7a)

Why learn swaihili when you can have a translator? *grin*

http://www.worldlingo.com/en/languages/swahili_translation.html

We are very excited DG is back up and running dave (((hugs)))

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Ohh--- now I shall look like I know Swahili !- hehehe

Corning, OH(Zone 6a)

Dave, Yes, all of my new journal entries are there now.
Thank you SO much !!

Happy to help!

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Whew! Such a relief to be up and running again. I almost went into withdrawal.

Yucaipa, CA(Zone 9a)

Being a paranoid person, I first thought I'd been banned for some
reason. Could only think of a few minor reasons. Then I thought maybe
I'd somehow forgotten to SEND what I'd done. Then I thought, well maybe
once, but everything!!

Well, now I know not to panic. I've never done anything like this before, so
I can be forgiven for those thoughts. Next time (may it never happen again),
I'll know to wait a few days before I panic.

Now, a ?. Will all the pics I was sending on an E-Mail be restored in a couple
days, or do I need to start all over?

I'll be back tomorrow eve to check for an answer. I know you're busy. Take
what ever time you need. I'll just keep checking back.

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Dave, Thanks so much for doing all you do to try to keep all of us addicts happy. I second Garden Wife's comments above. I kept getting the forbidden and other things also and didn't know what the problem was. Thanks again, Donna

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Thanks to ALL the DG staff for all their tireless, hard work to keep us all happy!!!!

Dave, you're the greatest...... next to 'you know who', that is! LOL!!

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

I'm so very addicted to DG I was just lost without it....

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
