Oh, boy, too much funny stuff,a nd i don't have time to respond. I read my Organic Style Magazine (last issue, not renewing), and they said to not get on the computer before bed because it was too much stimulation, so I wonder, when else I could find time for it??????

Oh yeah, today I depleted my leaf stash (sniff sniff), and got the nice mushy bags from the bottom of the pile, ripped them open, and started spreading. Getting that potato bed ready.

Tomorrow I will have an interesting story about that, with pictures of what ELSE I found in those donated bags of leaves.

Meanwhile, good night all, I HAVE TO GO TO THE BATHROOM...

P.S. Of course i will take 5-6 (or more) of those squash. I prefer Pumpkin type squash, and have plenty of room to plant:

Hi ya'll!!! Boy did I miss a bunch yesterday when I actually decided to WORK a bit! LOL!! I am off today, supposedly to go to the Farmer's Market Annual meeting but I just double checked and the thing is 6:30 tonight!!! DUH!! Now I will have to find a short notice sitter! Sugarweed??? Up this way? He's really sweet - course you know that.. hee hee!

Blaineif you want I can try to search you some bibbies down here.. Any ideas where I should look? I can price 'em out and see if they're cheaper.

Guess what? We bit the bullet and are getting Road runner soon! Hee hee hee > I am probably going to live on DG then!

Bye for now!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Ooh and HEY, anyone heard of Delicata Squash? It came free with my Seeds of Change order. Weird lookin' squash, can't wait to see what it tastes like! Lastly, anyone ever grow Quinoa? I ordered some 4 fun figuring the birds would enjoy it. Would love to do something with it though.. Any ideas? Weez, I'm thinking of you b/c this stuff mostly likes cooler weather. The variety I ordered is supposed to take a bit of heat though.

Cape Cod, MA(Zone 7a)

Hi all,
I'd be interested in hearing how your squash does! If you find it really resistant to borers, maybe I'll try growing some next year. I love squash.
You guys are just too funny!!! I'll have to make more coffee, I'm losing all of mine to the keyboard!
8ft, Your story cracked me up! Reminds me of the time my sister got her first sewing machine. She wanted to sew everything- so she sewed all my BIL's underwear flys shut and short-sheeted the bed!!! Lucky he's good natured!!!
And Weez! The witness protection program? So that's what your really doing in Alaska! LOL!
I love the picture of you and your Dad.
nc, I'm enjoying your stories about the classes your taking, good for you! Now don't be bringing home any guys in bibs!
Hi Magpye, and Annie, Great to see you here!
Sidney, I love your picture. Lookin' Good! Is that a narrow shovel? I know you work with boilers, but what exactly is you job? sounds interesting.
:0)

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

looking good Sydney - I've always thought women looked great in bibs (must be your Sunday-go-to-meetin' pair with the nice creased legs )
Nice pic NC - I don't have any past/present shots digitized in mine.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Ok ya'll - now you see that's Weez's post with the daddy/daughter pic now don't ya? I'll send you one though if you wanna see what I look like.

Here's one of me and my sweet boy!! :)

uhhhh, see - I said it was a nice pic. :)
JCP was $34 and I googled again based on their wording and found them here ww.etreavis.com for 29.98. So I've already got them coming from 2 different places. This was as bad as when I first read about that Orange coneflower last winter.

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Great picture Nicky, Is he planting a garden this year?
Oceangirl, don't get the wrong iddy about us and this squash. 8ft was in a fit of DG gottahavits and ordered seeds before we knew anything about it. Here SNATCHIN rules, lest you get confused. He is sharing with us so it wont happen again. lol He's a keeper.
We Boilermakers build and repair the boilers used in large coal burning electric generating plants and papermills. I work with oxygen/acetylene tourches, and welding. I'm a heavy rigger and had 12 years as a heavy equipment operator. I sometimes get lucky and get the tool room now I'm older. It's a man's world I live in and I am less welcome now than ever. I am trying everything to get retired.

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

Oh my .. did anyone else SEE that ??? ... 8 ft has ESP !! .. He saw NC's pic - before it was even posted !!!! ... LOL ...

These differences/time-zones - will sure nuff put a fooler on ya !!! ... (wellllll, that's the way it's appearing on my central daylight savings time 'zone', anyway!!) .. heehee ..

Howdy right backatcha thar, oceangirl !! ... Know, that I AM not 'making lite', of anyone! > but while still involved with laughin' .. when TamaraFaye posted about havin' to go to the potty - then, oceangirl, your towns' name - just jumped off the screen at me! (jes 'why', totally escapes me) .. hee ...

NC ... nice photo of you and yer fav'rite feller there! Believe I've seen that one elsewhere, here abouts ...
Sure glad to see that you're back up and at it .. and feelin' better! Take it, that your lil tyke is back and running at full throttle again also.. Good!!

Cape Cod, MA(Zone 7a)

Magpye LOL I'm, so used to the name I don't think of it anymore..very embarrassing to spell out over the phone, though- When my nephew visited he got such a kick out of the Highway exit sign:

Mashpee
Sandwich

Sounds yummy, huh?

That's a rough job Sidney- maybe you can retire and garden full time? I agree- Blaine's a keeper, I'm not at all put out about the squash, I've just been having a discussion on another forum about squash vine borers, I don't even want to try anything until I know it's resistant- so I thought you all could tell me how the field trials go before I try it!
This year I'm sticking to a lonely zuchinni in a whisky barrel (boo hoo) covered with remay, and waltham butternut.

Nice picture, nc...very cute

BTW
there's a new daylilly coop starting up right now...
:)

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Well, I've been away from the computer most of the day and missed visiting with everybody. Sidney, that picture of you in your bibbies makes me want to come visit you and give you a hug! If I looked that good in bibbies, I'd wear em every darned day! I lived in a man's world for several years when my second husband and I ran a small circle saw mill. I kinda liked it, but I was younger then.

NC, what a wonderful picture... a nice looking pair, indeed! It's been so long since I had children at home... I feel like an old gal just lookin' at it! 8ft, I agree with you.. women look great in bibbies... but so do men! There is something so charismatic about anybody who is dressed for work!

I spent the AM making packet cover for my seed trades, then went out to lunch with a friend... missed most of the great conversation here today.. hope to see you all back tomorrow!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Hey OC - I never noticed the name of your town! What a hoot!!! Reminds me of a dear college friend that hailed from Climax, NC. Funny stuff town names!!!

Sidney, my son is going to be a gardener I think!! I hope so anyway.

Took him to the annual Farmers Market Meeting last night and he enjoyed it! I won a bluebird house too!!! Funny thing was - the ext. director let Brandon pick the numbers from the hat and - you guessed it - the FIRST one he picked was mine!! I was so embarrassed! Didn't stop me from grabbing my bird house though LOL!!! He also went to a childrens museum recently with my mom and they had a plastic 'garden' - well he 'plants' all the plastic veggies and then ran to the kitchen next door and grabbed a watering can!!! THAT'S MY BOY!!!! :)))))

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

NC .. luv'd your stories! ... But your lil son drawing 'moms' name from the hat ... truly, takes the cake! (and the bluebird box too!) .. lol .. And him being intent on watering them thar 'special planted' veggies .. is jes adorable !! .. LOL

Ahh ... gotta love the thinking process and determination (and the wonderful innocence) .. of them yunkins !!!

Getting cabin fever here. snowing again. Here is my park bench the other day. By tonight who knows if I'll ever see it again...LOL

Hee hee Mags that is so true!

GOOD GRIEF Oceangirl!! Ick and double ick!!!!

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

Oceangirl .. are you another one of 'us' .. that are seeing .. 'the differences' in the dolphins .. in bsaivetz's
thread here > http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/480732/ -? .. Fer thar haint no bench in that pitter o'yorn !!!
(* merely teasing ya a bit * )

No snow here ... (and am beginning to worry, that we may not see any more!) ... but I'll bet that perhaps most any of us .. will take whatever excuses we can muster up - to feel inclined, fer a lil 'vacation'. hee

Hang in 'ar OG .. Spring's inevitable, and a 'thaw' is on the horizon - jes in a postponed state, a bit longer !

- Magpye

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

OG - news said MA was in for another foot or so.

What sucks - stupid bunny now has that 2ft platform of snow all around the back yard and has new branches within reach. Staring out the bedroom window this morning I realized he'd done a driveby on my espaliered apple and pruned the lower two tiers back.

In your case, they'll be up in the trees soon!!!

(ssssshhh! be vewy vewy quiet - I'm huntin' that wascally wabbit!!)

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Gosh, I feel like I'm in the tropics. We barely have snow on the ground here, but I'm sure it's on the way. One year we put a snow stick out in the yard. It was interesting to see just how high the snow was all season.

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Do it again Weeze. Mother & Daddy were in Oberammergau, Germany in the late 60s. We're talking real Bavaria, Anyhow Daddy parked his motorcycle in front of their apartment in September, in May when the snow melted, it was gone. They had no idea when it was stolen. LOL

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

LOL! Sugarweed! We barely have a foot of snow out there now, but even in plain sight, we'd probably be hard pressed to know when something was stolen around here. Yesterday, my DH told me he had noticed a tree had fallen behind his works shop. It was a huge spruce tree that broke off about 6 ft. from the base. Luckily, it fell away from the shop and just missed our cold frames by about 8 ft. If we can completely miss the demise of a 90 ft. spruce not more than about 100 ft from the house, I guess we aren't very observant!

Castro Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

Wayne, Zipper stays green! ya know people are staring, don't ya???? I've got lots of Pine cones, c'mon and git em! Moth Balls, lol, wish I had known that back in my old house, lol, traps worked sometimes, but not all the time! did YOU say ORANGE Cone Flower??? oh you're making me drool here!!!!! Poor bunny, sigh, is he supper? or a goner, LOL LOL

Oh Weez, how cute that pic is, isn't it nice to look back at days gone by with the family, cute cute cute! In the Tropics, wish I were, LOL.

Sugar, that's a heap of good info there on the softener, learn something new everyday here, don't we? Ya look mighty fine in your Bibs!!!! Now I've got to get some, have never had any, just wear Jeans. EATING SQUIRRELS??????? Good thang you left him, least He could have cooked ya some bunnies, LOL LOL. I used to work in a man's world too many years ago, I could cut glass on a wet saw faster, cleaner than any guy, sorry Wayne and Dyson, worked on Lathes, mills, drills, etc, that's where I learned all that kinda talk men do, and cuss words my young

Magpye, my gray matter goes on vacation everyday here, I need to do something to keep it in place fa sure. I agree wid ya, coverall it is, and I want my T-shirt too

Tamara, wish you a great potato season, I sure like those spuds

NC, now that little one of yours is just ADORABLE!!! and how sweet he wanted to water the vegies, too cute!!!! And congrats on winning the birdie house, sure he didn't cheat, LOLOL

Oceangirl, I like the name of your town, that's funny, I used to go out with a guy from Normal, Illinois! Hey! where's your bench, lol

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

awww, hanna pops back in! Hi Ya...
and, uhm, the Liberty zipper is a pouch right across the chest. :) I can just imagine cruising public with power blue bibs sporting a limegreen fly. Be a whole new spin on "Fly Trap!"

OG / NC make sure you email me your addy... depending on how many seeds are in that packet we may all get 3 or 4.

Cape Cod, MA(Zone 7a)

Annie, watch out, the orange coneflower will get you...! And It's fragrant, too.

This is the one I like, but there is also Sunset, at Wayside.

Cape Cod, MA(Zone 7a)

Magpye, I must be under a lot of stress! LOL Has anyone seen my park bench? I think someone stole it!
I hear a mixing bowl worn on the head is good for keepin' that gray matter in place... a heavy pottery one works best...
Sugar, I have been to Oberammergau, They do get a lot of snow! Funny story!

Nice of the snow to give those bunnies a leg up, 8ft! Time to get out the frying pan!
Thanks for the offer of seeds- but only if you have enough, okay? I'm in the address exchange if that works for you. :)

Those are some funny town names too, Annie and nc!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

If you want to discuss funny town names, consider the Alaskan town of 'Chicken'. This name was decided upon when none of the town fathers knew how to spell 'Ptarmigan!

OG, my husband was a psych nurse for 8 years , and my understanding is that aluminum foil is essential in blocking all extranious transmissions to and from the brain.

8ft, I've lost track... what is all this talk of green zippers?? We've had this condition in Alaska, but it is usually attributed to our cold weather and remote locations with lack of usual facilities.

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

You know the material the zipper tracks are sewn onto which is then sewn into the garment?
Liberty bibs have a zippered pouch on the chest. That zipper material is a kind of a bright green. What I found out by accident is that if you bleach the bibs trying to make them white, the zipper material stays green , doesn't bleach for some reason. Maybe made from face hair?

One DD gave me new sweats for Christmas. My favorite Nike set have that swoosh mark on the shirt and pants both. When I tried to bleach those, the only thing that changed was the swoosh marks. They turned a nice fluorescent pink which irritated my DD. I think she called them my maternity pants.

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

On the BIB Weeze, On the BIB!......Liberty'ss have the bright green zipper. And I do live in them, cept for politicin, then I dress.lol
Heading for NC in an hour, I'll sing some songs and enjoy this beautiful day. I put some aluminum foil on the backside of my visor, lest they try to beam me up.
I'll be crossing the coosawachee, now thats a name.

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Be by your place Fri morning maybe.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Glad to see you back Annie!

Blaine, don't you dare send me anything else! LOL!!! I must say folks I already have some of his Orange Ech. (amoung a couple other beats he sent me) and will be giving it a go soon! If it comes true from seeds we will all be 'in the orange' I promise!!! I also have something I'm getting mailed out to you tomorrow Blaine - I am hoping you forgot what it is so it will be a surprise!! LOL

Hey Sidney, stop on by and say HI!!! Have a freezer full of deer that needs to be eaten!!! Seriously though I am off tomorrow (Friday) - going to a Cert. Plantman class tonight and a Backpack sprayer calibration class tomorrow!

Hey Weez - just curious, can you grow Rudbeckia up your way or is it too cool? Just wondering!

Talk to you later!!

Nicole

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

NC, yes, we can grow it here, but it doesn't always winter over where I am. Maybe it's too wet.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Most varieties I grow as annuals here myself.

Just curious!! :)

Nicole

PS - LOVED your chickweed thread! Just found that one. hee hee!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Yes, I start rudbeckia every year, but they don't seem to bloom until the season is almost over. Maybe I should try them very early indoors. With the price of gassing up that bus, maybe we should trim our seed snatchin' grocery bill by tossing a nice chickweed salad and boiling up some roadside greens! We might even find a little roadkill to throw in the pot.

Fenton, MO(Zone 5b)

I planted some of the rudbekia this year also. They look really pretty with Russian Sage and thats my goal.. I have them both started. I saw that mix in a highway median in the city last year and it was a real eye catcher.

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

ya'll are going to fool around and cause this bus to hang a left down a different path!
Rudbeckia ("Rude Beckys" in 8ftbonics) what flavor have you got... so far? I've started branching out into the taller varieties. The first tall one was 'Autumn Sun' then I added another tall variety last year. My original goldstrum from the local garden club swap has started colonizing one bed. Cut 'em back by half to delay the big flush of bloom so there's all of that gold when the the purple asters are covered and do the happy dance

(weez, I'll be able to bring some mystery meat for the pot... most likely a blankety-blank-bunny unless I'm under the influence . You know a feral cat humped up making potty has the same silhouette as the bunny just sitting there daring me but I'll squint real hard)

Fenton, MO(Zone 5b)

I have Goldstrum started, I got those seeds from deadheading Lowes potted plants last year. I don't know the specific type of the other one, my sister gave me some seed and just called them black eyed susan. She did say, ' you should get you some brown eyed susan, they are much prettier and outdo the black eyed ones'. What do you guys think?

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

don't tell me you're going to limit yourself to just one? Get 'em both then go get some others!

Fenton, MO(Zone 5b)

Well YEAH! TOO MUCH IS NOT ENOUGH as I've always said. OR.... Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing. :)

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

This sounds like a fun thread. I'm coming down for the Florala Swap so what kind of seeds can I find in the beginning of April that I can snatch and take back home? Okay Pros, give me the goods!
:) Donna
