Hi, everybody! Sorry I got side-tracked and missed the bus! I guess Part V was taking so long to load that some of you were falling asleep and drooling over your keyboards... that can sure put you out of commission! Here's where we left off: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/471815/#new
I know some of you lucky folks in the 'tropics' are still able to collect seeds, but some of the rest of us who live in cold country are reduced to snips of waiting room plants or just dreaming over past exploits. So, I thought it might be a good opportunity for us to show some pictures of seed pods, etc, to practice up for the coming season. Here's some trollius pods. Anyone else have pics?
Seed Snatchin' Part VI
Welcome Back!!!!
Lord have mercy, I'm plumb hoarse from hollerin for you.
Hee hee Sidney!!! If I EVER get back upstairs to my 'puter I need to post a pic of the seeds I collected from Charleston, SC. Maybe someone knows what they are!
hee hee
Nicole

Wheew ... Weezins ... We wuz a fixin' to be loading up da bus .. and migratin' north !!! ...
(dunce here - left THIS message, danglin' on tail end of the prior thread, so whop me anutter good'un!)
Jes certainly glad you're okay .. ! ! !
Ya gonna hafta to realize - that ya need to be a checkin' with your seed snatchin' 'children' ... afore you go off a leavin' us a danglin' and hangin' lik'at !! Whar's yer sense of obligation ? .. LOL LOL ( * as if!! * .. It's right there, where you left them apron strings, some many years ago, 'ey?!?) .. hee
You know your loyal 'followers' jes don't have an inklin' how to go on withoutja, 'ey?!? (ooooo, perish the thought!) ..

- Magpye
sugarweed!!! No fair :-( No seed snatching in this neck of the woods...unless you like trampling throught the snow...But I think I'll take the dog for a walk...hmmmm.. There's some really nice Variegated Yucca down the street...the house is empty and it looks like it still has pods from the fall :-D
Maybe we should start doing a head count before put that bus into drive... just like they do for Senior Center shopping days.
Glad to see you're OK, weezy. Was gettin' a little worried 'bout ya. Thought maybe you'd met up with Mr. Moose again. But I totally understand about trying to leave the computer alone to get stuff done. I get on here and can't get off.
Well, needless to say, I'm back on the computer and the rest of the house still looks like huricane country. I've left the vacuum cleaner plugged in, in case it would just like to take off on its own and clean under the bed and dresser... sigh.
Hi folks! Home today - baby and I both sick. No Snatchin' today!! Might organize a bit though.. Probably not going to happen I bet!
Oh, bummer, NC. Wish I could digitalize some chicken soup and send it by email. Get yourself and baby comfy as you can...warm slippers and an old movie or two. Let Domino pizza fix dinner. We'll swing the bus by to pick you up when you ain't so 'tageous'!
for public display - "Ohhh, NC! Hope you and baby get better soon. If the baby is going to be sick then I guess it's good you get it at the same time instead of trading back and forth for a couple of weeks. Been there and done that x 5."
(mumbling as he walks away : "That's pretty cheesey using the baby as an excuse to stay home and watch the inauguration. Too bad mine are all grown!! " )
Not!
LOL!
don't look now but guess who bailed out of work?
Shoveled snow, put on sweats, dribbled peroxide on some fungus attacking a clematis cutting thats leafing out and now it's off to the bed with a remote. Of course I told 'em I'd be back in tonight but I was falling asleep at the keyboard.
Don't forget some snackies, 8ft.
Hee hee - I am NOT skipping to watch the inagurwhatamadoodle... My son is actually feeling better and I'm feeling worse - great combo when your youngin' is 3! hee hee!
How great, NC. He cat make you toast & squeeze fresh orange juice for you.
back to work although the lake effect snow machine was working while I was getting my beauty rest. Shoveled another 1.5" before leaving and will probably have more waiting around midnight.
Was just thinking... as long as I'm here I believe I'll check the Chinese evergreens or whatever they are all around the building and see if there isn't a couple of pups that would pry out. I'll post a shot of the spoils when I get in tonight...
(... a-snatching we will go, a-snatching we will go...)
good work 8ft...
Now, now let's not take more than we can use, or trade. (;>)
Well, they like low light, and to dry completely between waterings I think. But I could be wrong because I DID KILL one of the ones on the right. I want to call it an evergreen?
Good haul though and ROTF, even botanical info.
Get back on the bus.
Sidney
Hi all~
Drop me off at the next stop. I will be taking a break to get some real work done, LOL. And some planting too :)
Have a super weekend!
And keep up the good works!!!
Tamara
Up and at it double time 'ey 8ft! .. Wonderful pic .. Who made the shot tho' ? Surely it's your wife, totin' you a fresh cup of hot coffee again ...
Ahhh, I dream of getting snow here, at least that deep ... and, at least once in a winter!
I know - bet you guys are prolly sayin' that I may live to regret that one ... (naaah)
Speakin' of which .. reckon we oughta put a set of chains in the bus tool box - jes 'fer safety' ?
- Magpye
Ah, yes, that brisk morning stroll with your faithful dog, Snowblower! I see your are all muffled up to stay warm. I hope Snowblower has a muffler, too, or the neighbors may put sugar in his tank!
Yes, Magpye, a set of chains wouldn't be a bad idea... at least for those mountain passes... and maybe to shackle a few of our impulsive members down when we've already had three warnings from the local police!
We could hit Blaine's neighborhood in white suits, Tyvex of course to block the wind. lol We wear them often at work to stay cleaner and/or stay warm.. (We could use a case of those for the bus too?)
I will be watching for some 3xs to cover some fragile bushes from the chill of night here in Florida's north forty.
If we can get 2 or 3 sets of broken chains out of dumpster, we can re-work em to fit the bus.
Mainly though we need to try to stay with the ones we can snuggle with right now.
Blaine will have to cover his "hood" by himself.
back in after round 2 and clearing the 2.5ft wall from the snow plow.
I had a wild hair back in July to grow a beard again and everyone keeps asking me when I was going to cut it. NOW I know why I had the urge. Even crusted up like this, the face is the warmest part of the body.
come on now Sugar.. ain't I snuggling material?
added: oh yeah Magpye, I looked up and there was that little lady standing at the end of the driveway in fuzzy slippers and a steaming cup! love is....

Yes, Your Mrs. 8ft's Armstrong heater!
sugarweed .. an xcellent idea about checking the dumpsters for any chains!! ...
8ft .. a dandy lookin' beard ya sportin' 'ar! ... hee
Thought sure I'd talked the ol coot into puttin' one on, this winter (been a long while since he's grown such) -but so far .. he's avoided the attempt completely! Dang'd ol goat ...
- Magpye
Blaine you look fit enough to snuggle to me! Glad you have a woman up there in,,, oh no wait IL,,, - ick and LAKE effect snow??? Never mind sir I would be obligin you to keep that snow up your ways!! I lived near Cleveland for a year or so and during that short time the words LAKE EFFECT came on a little more often than I would have liked!!!
I still am feeling quite a bit under the weather myself here but I think I am breakin through it! I just got in one of my orders... Charley's greenhouse - 5" deep plastic pots to start my seedlings in!! I really hate moving them around after they get going - not to mention the laziness factor! hee hee
OH, and I took a pesticide calibratin' course AND a fruit tree mindin' course in the past 2 days - sick or not!! I learned a good bit but probably spread the 'love' germ a bit too much although I tried not to breathe on folks too much!
Bye! It's late, I'm tired, and getting kinda whoosize!!
Later!
NC, you need to get better soon. I hope you absorbed and will apply the fruit tree mindin' course. I've read so much it should be a snap. I just can't seem to bring myself to do all the spraying on those finicky apples which I've started weeding out. Still taste good but you have to eat around the applescab and ... stuff. The nectarines' seem to have only one problem - setting too much fruit. The cherries have a tough time saving any for me - birds almost sit there and watch them ripen to jusssst the right color and SNATCH! Last year was the first year for the pears to bloom and only a couple so the jury is still out.
Getting close to better today thanks!!!
The ext. office director taught the course on his own personal vineyards and orchards. He was pruning quite aggressively! I missed the pesticide part of the fruit trees b/c I was still trying to find the place! ha! Would love to have his spread though..
How great is that NC? Got lopper's, Will travel. All a good guise for gettin in them secret gardens to do some clandestine snatchin. That's another disguise we can use for the bus too. PRUNERS R US. What ya think?
Im in!
Several years ago, I attended a tree pruning class offered here in Seward. When I got there, I found that most all the other students were either city employees who worked for the parks department or professionals of some sort. I was just a dumb, inexperienced gardener.
We were asked to introduce ourselves, and after listening to everyone's credentials, such as, "I'm Fred Smith, head gardener for the City of Seward, and a 10 year Master Gardener.... blah, blah"... I stood up and said, "Hello, I'm Carol Souza and I'm here on the Federal Witness Protection Program." Only one person laughed.
well, I am laughing hard, wheez, does that count?
I was searching for more 3x5 cards for my increading trades (mostly SASBE, my favorite), and found another drawer of seeds!!! Mostly gourds that i harvested myself and intenede to trade, and some holly hocks I snatched (with permission) from the neighbor, also up for grabs, if anyone is interested???
Oh, so nice to reminesce 'bout those good ol' warm seed snatchin' days...
LOL .. Oh, my jaws hurt !! .. LOL .. You's jes a killin' me weezins' ...
But ya did hang around to see what you could 'teach' them .. 'bout spontaneous humor also ?!?
