CLCNever too Late to Plant?

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Well, Tazzy sent me some Lily bulbs earlier this month & I was afraid I'd have to wait until spring to plant them. NOPE! Mother Nature has granted us a reprieve in the winter (55 degrees!) & I'm putting these babies in the ground!

Atta girl, Wanda!!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Dang girl! 65* here today. May have see if the local nurseries can scrounge up something for me to plant tomorrow....

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

I got the rest of those last minute close-out bulb buys planted today.....but boy was that wind whipping around. Gusts of up to 45 mph!

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

It actually got warmer as the day progressed--62 degrees at sundown! It's thawed about 6 inches down, then I hit frozen dirt. Took a walk around my garden with NO COAT on. Wow! was that nice!

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

We're up to 53° right now at noon and there is NO wind. Did a cruise around the yard - mostly to pick up trash that the neighbor's let blow all around in yesterday's windy trash day. We didn't put our trash out because it was so awfully windy. Should have invited the neighbor's over to pick up their Christmas wrapping paper, styrofoam and discarded boxes. Arrrggghhhhh.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Way to go , Wanda! We hit 56 deg. and then it dropped and was only 24 yesterday. Now we have a layer of ICE over everything!!! How much is everyone else getting?

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

We're suppose to get only around 1/10th inch of freezing rain/ice tonight. Drizzly all day and 33° all day. Ooopsss.....just dropped to 32°.

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

I had 62% and planted bulbs all day .
Don't you hate me we raked leaves planted and have been out all day going " YE-SS " Alas they say winter coming back ,cold front due in and rain well i got a little caught up .

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

It may have been nice day but after I took a bath , watch a little TV ,and now all but my hair is hurting ,old body had not did heavy yard work in a few months ,and I have a bad case of the (all -overs) OUCH ,.GROAN, snap, crackle, no pop to tired to Pop !

Short sleeve weather here. Almost to good to be true. I watered all the plants in the basement today and have elephant ears that looks like it is middle of summer down there. If I was a poet I would write a poem about Spring and why won't it hurry up and get here. Seeing the ears in the basement ain't the same as seeing them in the yard.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

We were supposed to have had another day of that 'short sleeve weather' but got short-changed. Rats...winter is upon us. ;( But then Spring will be right behind it!

Norwood, MO(Zone 6a)

It was overcast, but warm here today, so I planted the bulbs Tazzy sent me (THANKS TAZ) and did a bit of pruning. I finally got the morning glory vines all cleared away and put the trellis in the barn til next year. It was so nice to feel good enough to do something and just wonderful that the weather let me be outside to do it. So far that hardy gardenia I got from ebay is hanging in there. It survived the negative temps we had last week. I had it covered in leaves and took a few away today and it is doing great under there... yay... Is it too early to do a countdown to Spring?

GRC, how cold does it get in your basement? I lost my EE last year and thought of trying more this year. I don't have a basement, but I have a fairly good sized crawl space under the house... would that be the same?

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

Temp .dropped 20 % already and raining . Oh well ,
hurt to bad to do any more for day or two . cant get temp right in greenhouse and sun room to hot .wish i had your basement GRC . Only need to plant a bunch more there sprouting in dark box in cold back closet .may have to pot and let them do there thing . Wanda are my eyes going funny with my brain or do you have a big red bow on ?? in your pic. if so its red or pink hat not red bow for CLC .I don't know why ? GRC . want to be Parliamentarian ? I think it falls under your sheiky Pooh duties .

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

Every one getting old and wont venture out on
cold nights ?

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I think it was a Lily Society thing she went to ~ probably in Des Moines so would be a 2 hour drive for her.

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

Brave souls !
I think driving !5 miles to
Garden Club is too far > I am a boring person
I like my stove and blankie at home
thank you during Dec. Jan. and Feb.

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

The Lily Society Meeting was great! Anahi, Lilyfan, Iowaron and their friend Teresa were there and lots of others. Met one lady who has grown roses all her life & just fell in love with lilies last summer. And met a really great guy who breeds lilies & judges them. Fun group! I just went as an excuse to see my DG friends & met more nice people. I think I will drive over to help with their Lily shows & Fairground expo. 2 hours isn't that far.

And, yes Tazzy, I am wearing a big red bow in honoir of the holiday planting!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Let me know when they have a Lily show!
3 hours isn't that long to drive. ;)

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

Whaaaaa......I wanna go to a lily show!!!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

You guys & gals can all come up here July 17 - 17 for the NALS show/bus tours/fun/etc etc/ Cheap Dollar/ good lily books and gift shop.
Inanda looking at the snow higher than the fence around the lily patch at present with more on the way.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Whaaaaa......I wanna go to Winnipeg!
But since that's not likely, how about if Brenda drives 3 hours here, and I drive 3 hours to Des Moines....
That makes it just a little bitty trip, right?

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

Is it only 3 hrs for me? Hmmmmm.......that's not very far.

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

fsr333 I have heat down there but I keep the vents turned off so it won't get to hot. Send me your address and I'll send you one this spring. Maybe not the one shown. But it might be it.
