Show your Christmas trees!!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Great tree, springsong. All the more so that it's in a new home.

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

Spingsong .Love the tree very nice. Glad to hear you are in a new home .

Newburgh, IN(Zone 6a)

Your tree is great. Home fires are difficult I hope you have better luck this year.

Cape Cod, MA(Zone 7a)

Springsong. your tree is gorgeous. I love the way you cascaded the ribbons down the sides. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, I hope this new home brings you joy. Blessings to you and here's to new beginnings. I hope no one was hurt in the fire, I'm sort of new to DG so I didn't know.
Cute pedal car with the Santa, meezers.
darius, thanks for the compliments. Those are my favorites too. I was especially glad about the Santa because I got him last year on clearance and forgot I had him. It's nice getting old, you can surprise yourself! I was so excited when I opened the box! LOL! Reminds me of Christmas shopping with my baby GD, I can fill the cart, she can play with the toys while I buy them, but she won't even remember on Christmas Day!
Kooger, I like your tree and the hand made ornaments. To tinsel or not to tinsel- that is the question! I ask myself every year. I can't help it -I love tinsel, I love old 50's kitch and sparkle. I even have some old lead tinsel. My DD has a fit because of kids, pets, etc, so I usually don't use it because she's right, especially about the lead stuff. ( I still have 3 boxes of backup plastic tinsel though- but DD usually talks me out of it.) God knows what I would do if she left me to my own devices for a few days!
;)

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

oceangirl - thanks, I love making ornaments! And much as I hate the mess afterwards, I just gotta have that tinsel on the tree. DH just despises it!! It's all over the house... Barney drags it around with his big feet. It's cheap enough I just pitch it and get new every year. Must say, I have never heard of lead tinsel. How old are they and what is it made of? Does it look like the stuff we have now? (Curiosity killed the cat!)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Gosh, I remember lead tinsel from being a kid. It was heavy and you really had to separate the strands. I haven't used tinsel or angel hair on a tree in years.

Laura, it was kinda krinkly and reflective, not as shiny as the plastic tinsel, but it had a lot of charm.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

I think I vaguely recall it - Mom would carefully separate it and put it on the tree. I guess I never knew it was leaded. Interesting..........

I want to thank everyone who has posted photos on this thread. Living in Israel, there is no such thing as a Christmas tree here, so my kids have had such a fabulous time seeing all of your lovely lovely trees. So we've decided that no matter what anyone else thinks, we're going to have a tree next year too! Now....just to spend the rest of the year trying to figure out where the heck to get ornaments for the tree! LOL

Make them!

Modi'in, Israel

Yep, that's definitely what I'll do for a good portion of them....stringing popcorn and cranberries. One year when I was in Germany, I collected chestnuts (the inedible kind), acorns...and acorn 'hats', various wild berries, seeds, etc and strung them all together for a really lovely addition to my rather untraditional Christmas tree that year. :-) But my kids are also all googly-eyed over the shiny bulbs and other lovely trinkets they see on the trees, so I want to have plenty of those too :-).

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Don't forget the paper chains the kids can cut and paste together. Be creative with foil that's so shiny... or see about buying some craft supplies to make your own shiny ornaments. Or, order some shiny things online.

Cape Cod, MA(Zone 7a)

Julie, If you can get back to Germany sometime over the next year there are great places to get ornaments. Kathe Wolfhart's in Rothenburg, the outdoor December Christkindlesmarkt in Nurnberg, there are places all over.
Ebay is another favorite source of mine, especially the Christmas: modern category, you can get old but not too antique or pricey things. I will send you something special and shiny from my tree if you want, to start your collection.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

What a great idea! Julie, email me your address too. I'd love to send you an ornament off my tree also. I don't care how much the shipping is.

That is such a neat idea oceangirl. Thanks for thinking of it.

Christmas Brunch for two ?

Hope Valley, RI(Zone 6b)

kept it simple this year. With 3 young cats all under 2. no tinsel (made DH happy) and only unbreakable plastic snowflakes.
It only took the kittys 5 minutes to have 4 of the flakes across the room and under the wood boxes.

Why is it DHs hate tinsel.... it not like they are the ones who go around picking it up from all over the house. (grin)

Oceangirl and JoanJ (and Mendy who emailed me), that is so very sweet of you all, but I really dont want to be a bother. I think the internet must have hundreds of sites offering ornaments. I just have to look. I'm just really grateful that you've all gotten me motivated to do this next year. I really miss Christmas back home and I think next year will be wonderful....thanks in part to all of you giving me the inspiration to do something about it! :-) Again, you all really made my day with your sweet generosity! That Christmas spirit really puts a huge smile on my face :-)

Finally got my "tree" up although it is not a tree. It's branches from the woods tied together and hanging from my LR torchiere.

Close up... there are some ornaments on it I found cheap, since mine are all in storage, except a few on the tree that were in a trifle dish centerpiece from last year and somehow got packed with the china, not the decorations.

darius, that's a cute idea, really pretty.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Forget to post this after DH got the outside lights up ..now we have a little snow, but the temp is dropping to single digits today. Good day to stay inside and keep warm? Nahhhh, got some errands to run ...like my momma said, "If you can't use your head, you have to use your feet".

Tree is still intact, but the fearsome five are prowling around, over, and between the packages, trying to drive me nuts because they know I can't use the spritzer on them.

Okay Julie. ((((sigh)))) but if you change your mind.....
darius I love your upside down tree! It's so beautiful and clever!

Tazzy, I'll be right over for brunch if there's any left!

Daylily970 how do you make those trees? They are so cute, like antique feather trees.

Your tree is pretty, binky.

And meezers, the front of your house looks so nice. I love your momma's saying, and on that note I have to get to using my feet!
Merry Christmas everyone! I have so enjoyed this thread., too. I might be back with more pics if time allows.
Cindy

Modi'in, Israel

Please do post more pics Oceangirl. I'm enjoying each and every one of them :-) And, a little "tree" recently posted gives me a wonderful idea that I can manage THIS year! My kids are gonna go NUTS when they come home from school tomorrow! Thank you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much for the idea Darius! If I could, I'd smooch you! :-) (we even have some blinky lights around here somewhere :-)

-Julie

Coshocton, OH(Zone 6a)

oceangirl. they are like feather trees, easy to do. you need a dowel rod, brown floral, a small block of two by four and small green garland. here's a small one i did with a fence.

Vi, you're never gonna let me live down that sobriquet, are you? LOL. I can't believe how many ornaments on your tree. Looks wonderful.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

The first Christmas we lived in the house, was '99, moved in on the 16th or so, and had NO lights. 2000 DH went nuts and put icicle lights all around, even on the peaks. Took them down in January when it was bitter cold. 2001. . . .far fewer lights. 2002. Some lights, and a little green Christmas tree on the garage, fast forward to 2004, lights only on the front porch, a couple of spotlights, and the little green tree above the alcove! DH says it's getting too cold to go take them down in January!

Everyone has such creative and beautiful trees, I love looking at them and seeing all the different collections and ornaments incorporated. Have a safe and wonderful Holiday all!!

Memphis, TN(Zone 7b)

Okay - so I'm a bit late...finally getting around to posting my tree picture. Yes - it's wrapped in tulle to keep kitties from ornaments - and it worked quit well!

Thumbnail by BetsyBug
Cape Cod, MA(Zone 7a)

Nice tree mbock, the tulle looks really pretty! What a good idea. I never got around to posting this pic of my little pink tree..

I'd like to try making trees like yours, Cindy.
