Date and time is strange

Pflugerville, TX(Zone 8b)

Hey....maybe we could just change our system clocks every day.....when we get up turn it back to 5 AM......when it gets dark set it forward to 9PM. No wonder I'm so tired....it's been a long day LOL

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

LOLOL I like that idea !! My DH the science guy keeps trying to convince me that time is not a constant. Why not use it to our advantage? :-) When I get to work tomorrow morning I'm setting all the clocks to 3:45 pm.

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

I'm pretty sure mine was right when I set my preference to be GMT +1, but this evening it is an hour behind the correct time, so I went to my preferences thinking I must have made a mistake, but it's definitely set on GMT+1. So I wondered what it would do for GMT (the time the clock is actually showing) and it wasn't there. Someone's done away with GMT completely - so how are all you UK people doing? Perhaps you have no time at all LOL

Springboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Dave - the times are ALL goofey from where I sit. If I look at the most recent forum posts, there are times all over the map - out of order - and many haven't even "happened" yet. I'm getting posts marked at 11:30pm when it's only 10:30pm and some are several hours off from what I can tell. Sorry this is such a pain for you! You're supposed to be excited about time change in the fall, right??? :)

Springboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Okay -- pardon my loopey post-partum brain :) They're not "all over the place", but the times ARE all one hour off. They're showing 11:45pm when it's 10:45pm here. Sorry for the miss info.

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Huga, try going into "My Info" and going into your preferences. Change your time zone to Eastern STANDARD time and not Eastern Daylight Time. That's what I had to do and it fixed it. :) Kathy

Springboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Thanks so much, Kathy! I really appreciate the help! Dave -- everything's A-okay! No need to reply :)

Joelle, wish I could help you out, but I have no idea what time zone Saskatchewan is in. (love the name, but hard to spell)...

Here's a fun resource: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Still haven't had an answer to where GMT has disappeared to.........

The time shown on Dave's for me - which I have set in my preferences to GMT+1 is still one hour behind ie it is actually showing GMT

In the options to change in my preferences there is NO GMT at all. It appears that GMT has become renamed as GMT+1

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Post Partum? So you had your baby Hugahosta??

Well, congrats if so! I guess I'll go search and see if you posted the info elsewhere.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3a)

I have changed my time zone numerous times to all different areas and it does not change on my posts. My Daves time says its 6 am and It says I am posting at 6 am it is not 6 am anywhere in North America right now. Does anyone have any ideas" Thanks Joelle

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3a)

Thanks GW, I don't seem to be able to change my setting, although at the bottom of the screen it does change the words "All times are recorded in GMT +1" to which ever time zone I choose. Thanks for trying to help me. Joelle

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

What does your computer's clock say? That should not make any difference, though. You'd have noted if it was off, I'm sure. Strange!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

philomel,

Doesn't GMT stay the same all year? I know the UK is the same as GMT in the winter, but one hour ahead of it in the summer. Would that make you one hour ahead of it in the winter, and two in the summer?

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

I thought GMT + 1 was GMT and a day.

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Okay, IMCANADIAN....I looked it up for you. Try going to GMT -6 It says that you are one hour behind me. Right now it is 10:15 a.m. and you should be at 9:15 a.m. (our minutes could be off a few)... I know that GMT-6 is on Dave's list of time zones because I just saw many, many GMTs.

Go to "My Info" and go down to preferences. Then go down to where it says the time zones and many will come up. (you may have to scroll down or up to get to GMT-6.

Let us know if this works. Kathy

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Misty, I think it's GMT + an hour - hence the many options avail on the same drop-down list, such as GMT+13, GMT-12, etc.

The only problem with basing your time zone selection on GMT, is that GMT never changes, whereas many people's time zones spring forward and fall back.

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Yes that's exactly right spklatt :)
I should be 1 hour ahead of GMT now (and 2 in the summer). But I've set my DG preference to that (GMT+1) and the actual time DG's clock is showing on my pages is GMT, not what I've set it to
??????

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

spklatt & Phil, yes it should be GMT +1, but the website I went to said to calculate the time for SK in standard time (and we are on standard time now), go to GMT - 6.... (I'm not a know-it-all, and wouldn't have said it if I hadn't read it with my own eyes, ha, ha.)

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Oh, sorry MM I didn't read your posts - was just answering spklatt's reply to mine
This is all getting so confusing LOL

The only point I was trying to make is that the DG clock has the same time for GMT and for GMT+1
(yes it should be +1 hour not +1 day *g*)

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3a)

Thanks MM that is what I have been doing, no matter what time zone I change it too it says it is 6 hours ahead of what time it really is here. My computers clock is right, but my Daves garden clock is 6 hours ahead. This has only happened since the time change. Where I live the time doesn't change, it stays the same all year. Thanks, I think I will email the 'Power" Joelle

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

I think it was Halloween weekend and time changing the same time. :) LOL I had the problems with my time and others have had their locations change...dudududu dudududu......

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

I think we need some administrative help here, please :-)

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I have my preferences set to CST.......I'm in the same area as Joelle and I didn't have any problems.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3a)

That did it, Thanks Lilypon! As soon as I used CST my Daves time switched as did all the posts. I tried about a dozen times with other choices - and nothing. Go figure... Thanks everyone for your help too. Joelle

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Well, dang it, we should have just asked Lilypon to begin with, what were we thinking? :) LOL

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

LOL You are very welcome! ;)

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Misty,
Lilypon's and Joelle's time zone doesn't change - they're always on CST. Isn't there an American state that stays the same too? Anyway, for the rest of us, it looks like we have to change our time zone in our preferences twice a year. Good to know! :-)

Shannon

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

spklatt, CST which is also TX (my daughter used to live there) is one hour behind us and when we set our clocks ahead or back, so do they, so it could just be the area that Lilypon and Joelle are in. The only place in the country, that I know of, that never changes their clocks is right around Indianapolis, Indiana. It is not even the whole state, it is just that city and some surrounding towns.

I have certainly found out some interesting things from this thread. Have a great day, Shannon....Kathy :)

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

DH's cousin in OH told me all of IN except the NW corner, which stays the same as IL, does not change time. One of the SW states also does not change. Is it AZ?

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

That's not so about IN. I live right over the river in KY and it changes. Once when I was in Indy (we had to go up in early Nov each year with our high school band for Bands of America competitions) I asked and they said just right around Indianapolis. All the towns around us in Indiana do change their clocks. (we live about 12 miles from Indiana)... :) Kathy

Pflugerville, TX(Zone 8b)

yes...Arizona is always on Mountain Standard time. It does not switch to daylight savings time.
